Introducing Mighty No. 9!

Mighty No. 9

What are you gonna be doing come Spring of 2015? No plans yet? Well here’s one appointment to put on your calendar a bit early: Mighty No. 9!

Mighty No. 9

Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game coming to the PlayStation 3 (and maybe PS4 and even Vita! But more on that later…) that harkens back to the best aspects of the old 8- and 16-bit classics many of us grew up with, only evolved and transformed into something only possible today.

Mighty No. 9

As the titular hero (known as Beck), you’ll need to run, jump, and blast your way through your fellow Mighty Number robots, stealing their powers to fuel your unique skill to transform your body into new shapes for added abilities!

Maybe your limbs could become giant magnets, enabling you to walk up walls or rip away enemy shields… Or maybe extendible spring-loaded hands would let you to activate far-away switches or work as a grappling hook… Or a tank-like body might let you easily cross over spikes or push objects around the levels… These are just a few possibilities we’re considering (the game is still in the design phase), but you get the idea!

Mighty No. 9

You might know Mighty No. 9’s developer, Comcept, from their work on Soul Sacrifice for the PlayStation Vita – but what you might not know is that this company, as well as their partners at Inti Creates, are staffed with dozens of veterans who worked on many of the old Mega Man games: artists, musicians, level designers – even famed creator Keiji Inafune himself!

As we mentioned, the game is still in the early design phase, but Sony has already been incredibly supportive to us as an indie developer, reaching out to offer advice, promotion (including this blog post!) and all kinds of other help.

Mighty No. 9

Well, what do you think? Sound like something you might be interested in? If so, there’s a way you can take part in the creation of the game (it’s being made from the start with fan input as an integral component!) and help it come to more PlayStation systems in the process (the experienced team at Abstraction Games, fresh off their PlayStation ports of Hotline Miami, are all lined up and ready to dive in on a Vita version!). So head on over to our Kickstarter page before our campaign ends this coming Tuesday for details on how to (hopefully) help get Mighty No. 9 to come to PS Vita and PS4, too!

  • Mighty No.9, Welcome to our lives!

  • I’m already a backer. I’m in for the physical art book tier.

  • The biggest f u to Capcom :)

    I will support this!

  • Wow great to know that No. 9 is coming after all the rumors =D
    Awesome!

  • Maybe Sony can donate that final amount to get it on the PS4 and Vita?! I’m pretty sure there isn’t enough time to make the rest of that money but who knows. I’m so excited either way! Make way for MEGA…. uhhhh… I mean MIGHTY NO. 9!!

  • Well one thing is for sure I won’t be playing on the PS3 in 2015. So hopefully you will be able to release it on PS4 or psvita.

  • What a great surprise it would be if they helped out with bringing this to PS4 :)
Make it happen Sony! You do nothing but great things.

  • Wow, Mark MacD! Welcome to the PSBlog, Gaming Jesus!!!

Definitely looking forward to Mighty No. 9. Not a backer because I’m broke, but I’ll definitely pick it up when it hits PSN. Hopefully PS4 too! :)

  • So excited for this!! Really hoping Sony will help them bring it to the PS4 and Vita, too.

  • Kick starter coming through! This is why indie developers make their power play. If the big publishers won’t give the gamers what they want, indies will be there.

  • Did he have to look so kiddy??

  • thought there was still a few days to back this? really hope it comes to ps4 and vita, was stoked to see it make enough to be on current gen. dang, i need a time machine to play now

  • A PS3 game in 2015 gets a big ‘thanks but no thanks’ from me. Hope it appears on the Vita and PS4 in the future, and congratulations on your funding campaign.

  • MARK!!!!!!!! Wow incredibly happy to see you post in the PS Blog! Got paid today, going to back this with the 8-4 bump. Game looks great :)

  • Yeah, Might No. 9! So surprised to see this up on the blog! Everyone go throw as much money as you can at this thing, and we’ll make the Vita version happen!

  • If on Vita, SUPER EXCITED, was/am huge Mega Man fan!!!!!

  • Backed this myself just the other day… cannot wait to play it on PS3, and hopefully they’ll reach those upper stretch goals!

    Go, Mighty No. 9!

  • What an awesome surprise, seeing this up on the Playstation Blog!

I’ve been a backer since the day I heard about it. This game is going to be history-making — a crowd-funded Japanese console game from a legendary development team. That it’s going to be available on PS3 is spectacular; that it could also make it to Vita and PS4 if enough people back is unthinkably awesome.

If you haven’t backed the Kickstarter yet, what are you waiting for? Keiji Inafune has said that Kickstarter could be the catalyst in reviving Japanese game development, and a lot of folks in the games industry in Japan are surely watching Mighty No. 9 to see how it finishes.

  • Great to see this on the blog, wish it the best of luck and will buy.

  • HYPE TRAIN!

Come on ride the train…and ride it whoo whoo!

  • I’ll look forward to it on Vita :)

  • Thanks everybody! We got just 4 days left to the Kickstarter so we can use all the help we can get to spread the word, but we’re seeing really strong momentum now — a lot of people want those PS4 and Vita versions!! :)

  • Does anyone know if that title is being made by Sony PlayStation as a first party title??

  • Already backed and already excited.

  • Comment 84 should get a prize!

  • If you want a vita version they still need like $1 million :-(

  • 2015 so far off :( But the wait will definitely be worth it. Hopefully it will be on PS4 and Vita because I don’t if I’ll still be playing PS3 by then.

  • I refuse to support any platformer not coming natively to Vita.

  • Yeah right 4 days 1 mil left, could you announce that milestone earlier?

    • We have been working with different partners for the last couple weeks to make sure we could set a price for and guarantee a quality version of the game for the handheld platforms, including Vita. Basically, we didn’t want to rush out to promise something we only later found out was not possible due to schedule or budget — especially as we’ve seen other Kickstarters struggle with over-scoping based on stretch goals.

Still wish we could have announced this earlier, but that’s why we didn’t!

  • I’m already getting this on my Wii U, but if it does come to PS4 and Vita, then sure.

  • official game play video wouldve been alot better than some pictures and blueprints..but i shall be supporting this game ..and hopefully there is some DLC to keep it alive..and make a 2nd version. Im a huge supporter of 3d / 2d platformer games. Looking forward to this and hopefully a SHANK is on the works for the PS VITA!

    • We’re still early in the design phase — and in fact didn’t know until the Kickstarter was funded that we’d be made for sure or not :) So sorry for the lack of polished assets, but thanks for your support! (`_´)ゞ

  • Great concept art….game looks fun…been reading about this game for a while…thanks for bringing this information to the PSBlog….and consider me a buyer already.I’m from the good old PS1 era….a game like this makes my heart pound really fast and really happy.

Did I read that right?…you have plans for Vita..please make it happen.

  • I already backed this proyect, for a fan of Megaman its a honor to help Comcept on this great work.

  • @Sony
Can we get a little help with this game getting a Day One Day and Date release with the PS3 version with Cross Play and maybe Cross Buy?

I’d throw my wallet at this project, but I’m not willing to pay more than 50 to kick start this.

  • Looks like it won’t be making it to the PS4. :(

Sony should fund the rest to make it exclusive to the PS4. I want it on the PS4!!!

  • Impaciente por ver llegar este juego y jugar! Capcom se ha de estar jalando los pelos!

  • “Sound like something you might be interested in?”

    Hell yeah!

  • I’ve never funded anything on Kickstarter before. If I contribute in an effort to get the Vita version but it doesn’t get there do I get my money back?

    • You can take your money back at any time before the end of the Kicksarter, but any money pledged once it ends goes toward the project you pledged to — and will fund only whatever stretch goals they were able to reach by the end of their campaign. Hope that answers your question!

  • Hi hope you can answer some questions please?
1- What sales are planned for the month of October? Will there be a sale on PSP and PSX games?
2- Any chance there’ll be a ‘Buy 1 year of PS Plus, get 3 extra months’ like what you did earlier this year?

  • OOOPS! Please disregard my previous post it was intended for the PS Plus October blogpost ^^;

At any rate, looking forward to playing this game although 2015 is very very far off…hope it gets ready for next year.

  • いらっしゃいませ

  • Well i hope this can also make it to PS4 as well, because this is the new gen of mega man. PS4 day 1 i’m out

  • It looks awesome. I would LOVE a Vita version! I feel like that platform would better suit the game.

  • Proud $60 backer :) Hoping we hit the VITA stretch goal

  • Hmm so would there be cross buy if the Vita and PS4 versions milestones are met?

  • I hope their’s a million dollars worth of donations in the PS Blog. For all our sakes.

    • You never know ;) The last days of any Kickstarter see a big upswing — some have made a million in 2-3 days before, as people who have been putting it off rush in along with media stories about the campaign coming to a close.

Either way, we’d need all your guys n gals help to do it, both your pledges but also helping spread the word! :D

  • Been a backer since day 1.

Even if they dont reach the next gen goals and portable goals, they do have a paypal donation system currently open…Whos to say they will stop taking donations there and continue to march towards there final goals?

Also, if you are sad that it MIGHT only be on PS3 in 2015, read the kickstarter. Its going to almost every platform there is. Steam on PC, Mac, Linux, current gen consoles, and hopefully next gen and portables if that paypal stays open.

  • CAPCOM killed Mega Man… So…

    ….

    GO Mighty No. 9, GO!

  • Vita version!!! Pleeeassseee!!

Just another cool Mill on the kickstarter.. Make it happen <3 Funnel in some funds from SS Delta XD
