PlayStation Plus: October Preview

I’m a sucker for fantasy. If a game allows it, I’ll create an elf mage because magic is awesome. This month I can do just that as Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is entering the Instant Game Collection. With a tale crafted by NY Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore, stunning visuals from Todd McFarlane, and a customizable combat system, Reckoning has a lot to offer RPG fans. The mix-and-match combat means I can get my magic fix while also smashing things in the face with a hammer, or stabbing them with a sword and other various pointy weapons, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Sine Mora on PS VitaKingdoms of Amalur Reckoning on PS3Poker Night 2 on PS3Shadow of the Colossus on PS3Hotline Miami on PS Vita

You may remember that last month we added Team Ico’s original cult classic ICO to the IGC, so their equally beloved sequel Shadow of the Colossus seemed like a natural follow-up. Slaying the majestic Colossi should make you feel something (read: incredibly guilty), but hey, you gotta save your #1 girl, right? In a completely different vein, Plus members will also receive Poker Night 2, which is an amusing twist on the classic card game. With GLaDOS as the dealer and opponents like Claptrap from Borderlands and Ash from Army of Darkness you can sit back, have a laugh and bet all your fake money away.

PS Vita owners are in for a couple treats – both the gorgeous shmup Sine Mora and the critically acclaimed top-down shooter Hotline Miami are joining the Instant Game Collection later this month. Sine Mora boasts stunning backdrops and cinematics as well as a slightly different shoot-em-up mechanic – you are in a constant race against the clock and the only way to get more time is to kill enemies. Hotline Miami embraces hardcore twitch-based play, which means you may need to repeat levels multiple times, but once you get through it it’s incredibly satisfying. Since Hotline Miami is a Cross-Buy title, you’ll be able to download it for both PS Vita and PS3.

These games will hit the Instant Game Collection at various times throughout the month, so check back with us every Monday morning for that week’s update.

  • Well… while I’m in the PS Store waiting for my purchases to download… I’ll address your comments to me, Funky0ne.

I can see why you perceive what I said as a contradiction. May have been sloppy of me to word it that way, but when I said I was “willing to bet”, I guarantee you I wasn’t inviting a competition. It’s just an “expression”… and also my expression of my perception… how it seems that most people here are very well off financially, many of them probably still teens and tweens living with their parents and don’t worry about money related stuff too much. Others, I’ve noticed, openly talk about their multiple consoles and other nice things and I think to myself how fortunate they are to not have to ever feel the same pains that I’ve had to. Not mad about it of course, and definitely not upset with those who are fortunate. Just something I’ve noticed. I really have no interest in competing for “Most Oppressed PS Blog User”…. but I will share some details with you…

  • I’ve struggled financially for years for similar reasons to yours, Funky. I’ve lost jobs due to my appearance (long hair at age 20 didn’t mix with corporate ideals), due to disagreements with management, and due to physical problems popping up that prevented me from performing steadily on a regular basis. I was always let go in the most devious and cowardly of ways too…

Back in the early 2000’s I was working a retail job but it wasn’t paying enough so I started selling weed on the side to make ends meet. Apparently, I angered a local gang because I was taking all their customers away since the stuff I was selling was much higher quality than their backyard boogie garbage, not to mention I gave everyone good deals all the time. Unfortunately, this led to me being robbed at knife point in my own apartment in the middle of the night by one of the other dealers who took EVERYTHING from me AS I SLEPT, woke me up after he had everything, put my own butcher’s knife from my kitchen on my throat and told me “you know what will happen if you tell anybody about this”, then slowly dragged the knife across my chest in an X formation. Hard to do anything when you’re half-asleep and caught off guard like that.

  • They eventually found and robbed my supplier too… 4 dudes with shotguns taking a half pound of high grade bud off of him… it put a huge dent in my progress financially and I tried to keep it going discreetly in a different location, but it was just never the same. Eventually, medical dispensaries started popping up all over the place and that pretty much put an end to street dealing… which I’m happy about, by the way. I wouldn’t do it again even if I could.

I also have constant pain in my spine… mostly upper back and neck. The top of my spine is curved at the top from what my chiropractor says was caused by the two car accidents I had been in where I had suffered severe whiplash. But I’m thinking it’s from something else which I won’t discuss here… but, needless to say, the constant pain keeps me in a constant state of discomfort. I’m constantly compensating for the shifts in my spine with awkward positions when I sit, stand, and even when laying down, and they’re VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

  • I probably have an collective average of 1 hour per day where I don’t feel any pain. The rest of the time, I’m miserable. I’ve had to take less hours at work, and thus less money in order to give myself more time to take it easy.

Bills are still stacked high even though they’re much lower than they were years ago. A massive student loan from 1999 that still isn’t paid off, a tax lien from 2006 (still paying), and of course the usual utilities and necessities that come every month from living on your own (electricity, phone, internet, etc.). I don’t have a credit card and wouldn’t be able to get one. My credit rating is literally as low as credit can be. no loans for me. I do everything with the money I have on hand which I have been slowly stacking little by little over the past few years, and like I said, I do feel a lot better about where I am now. I’m actually quite pleased with my progress (and it’s all legal, too, ha ha).

  • I was also on food stamps for a while back in 2008-2011, completely drained all of my unemployment benefits and their federal extensions when I was in-between jobs. And blah blah blah I could go on forever. I don’t get much from my family other than grief, guilt trips, and unfair judgement…

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, my friend… I could go on for pages and pages…

  • Yes! Just… yes!

  • @ Sevyne

Waa waa waa… dude, that’s all you do. You’re not “better” than anything. You’re a professional victim.

My post that you didn’t like was also not directly after yours. There was one in-between, and my post was literally one minute after yours, maybe even less than a minute. I hadn’t even refreshed the page yet to see what you said. If you think I really felt like I had to respond to you that fast, then you really do have that persecution complex… which you confirmed again in your most recent post. You’re still feeding the idea that I was trolling you even after I clearly stated that I wasn’t talking to you. Instead of acknowledging that you jumped to conclusions, you chose to fling more poo and act like I’m the bad guy. That’s truly pitiful.

Again, I will address you by name when I talk to you. Anything without a name attached to it is just a general comment.

  • This month looks great. Thanks for the awesome games. If I might make a suggestion. Since we can only play these games by downloading them, can you also include the size of the game so we without sufficient disk space can prepare ahead of time?

  • Ahhhh great update Sony! Octuber, November and December are the strongest months for PS Plus Members!
I Already Own Shadow of the Colossus (Classic) and Hotline Miami (Addictive), but looking forward for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning(Good RPG), Poker Night 2 (Love Telltale games) and Sine Mora. Looking Forward for a great Month.

  • Great update but sadly I have every game thats free this month ._.

  • Really regret buying Sine Mora last month seeing as I haven’t touched it yet because of Spelunky..

  • Shadow of the colossus alone makes this completely worth it, I picked a good time to join PS +! XD

  • Cool to see KoA and Hotline Miami for this week. Been a while since there was a Vita game that I don’t already own on the list. Would love to see SPELUNKY and When Vikings Attack! next please!

  • I knew Hotline and Shadow would be free eventually! I should of held off on buying them!

  • So we can kiss Assassin’s Creed 3, NFS Most Wanted and Far Cry 3 goodbye! Right? I’m definitely switching to Europe Account!

  • KoA, Shadow, Poker Night 2 & HLM. My only complaint is that I have more games than time thanks to PS+.

  • Looks to be another boring month for me.

I’m really glad to see an RPG in the mix,I’m not very interested in this particular game but It’s a step in the right direction.( I’d like to something more JRPG like Atelier, Neptunia ,Legasista ,LoH:Tits or FFXIII-2.)

I’m pretty disappointed to see all the games except Colossus (Which I’ve tried before and didn’t care for) are rated M. I usually don’t like M rated games because of the level of violence and profanity.

  • Better than September’s offerings
Glad I decided to buy Dragon’s Dogma instead of KoA a few months ago now

  • PS+ EU PS Vita
July = Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus + Unit 13
August = When Vikings Attack! + Lego Lord of the Rings

Hotline miami was on sale last month now it’s on IGC lol! Just like rayman origins! Gladly this time I did not purchase Hotline miami!

  • Hey sony please buy kingdom of Amalur ip up for auction!! I would love to see what the guys at sucker punch could do with this series!

  • Thanks, Sony. I’m really looking forward to downloading the HD version of Shadow of the colossus.also Kingdom of Amalur looks fun. I just need to find the necessary space for it all lol. :) I already have Hotline Miami so I won’t be downloading that game, which is fine.October has stacked up to be a great month for Plus members. :D

EU ps plus for vita has given 6 AAA vita titles since JULY!! While US ps plus nothing????? LOL ps plus US team really doesn’t care at all to Vita owners only.

  • Sine Mora is very great… and hard.
I’ve got this already on vita (day one) and PC

hotline miami is one I always hear yet don’t really like, much like RCR
and at last PSP is gone… I have mixed feeling, but looking at Tekken, Soul Calibur, even Darkstalker made the slot useless… I guess it’s better for Vita for two slot rather than PSP…

    if just i have ps3….
won’t buy it because ps4 is on horizon though

  • No AAA games again…. only old games…. again….

EU got assasing crew III/ Dead or Alive 5 / Fan Cry 3 and also got Reckoning motnhs ago…. and i that month also got another nice game……..

US+ sucks… discounts are disspointed and IGC are worts and worst every month… not even close to what i bougth on january….

  • I wish Sine Mora was for PS3 owners instead of for vita owners. Anyways not bad month both Kingdoms of Amalar and Shadow of the Colossus are good games to add to the IGC. Even though most likely I will not download either one of them. I might pick up Hotline miami but I am still on the fence if it would be a game that I would like. Also I am still trying to find out what kind of game Poker night 2 is I guess I will watch some videos and see how it plays.

I am still hoping someday we will see Catherine and Twisted Metal join the IGC

  • Hate the fact that I’m saying this, but man there are so many games I’m trying to play now and these just add to the list of amazing games I want to play. I’m already working on GTA V and Kingdom Hearts HD Remix along with Persona 3 Portable and other PS Plus games that came out earlier this year.

  • Seariusly? …Hotline Miami… its like a game boy game….

  • Wow , this month’s lineup is amazing!! keep up the good work guys! :D

  • Wow. This is terrible , especially when compared to what the UK/EU are getting.

  • Any big sales coming soon? (Like 70% off)

  • thank you for Hotline Miami and Sine Mora
i hope never seen psp game again in IGC
once again thank you for giving some love to ps vita owner

  • No PSP games? Just kidding. Anyway, very glad to see Poker Night 2 being one of PS+ freebies. I was about to buy it later of this month for the “Spend $50, get $10” deal. Looks like I won’t have to. Although, kinda disappointing not seeing Street Fighter x Tekken to be one of those Vita games. Thanks Kristine for revealing the October month early again.

@PrimeroIncognito Hey, Primero. I haven’t seen you post for the past few updates. Glad to hear that your going to enjoy this month’s freebies. I know I’m going to as I don’t own any of those games. Mostly Poker Night 2 so I can get those Borderlands 2 items because I’m getting the Game of the Year Edition later this October. Those crybabies can’t appreciate the classics these days.

@YorlecmNwahs Please let this guy know I’m going to break his Vita in half if he’s brings that petition one more time. I’m dead serious.

  • @PrimeroIncognito: Shut up!

  • The only baby here is PrimeroIncognito. I’m pretty sure he works for Sony. I don’t think that somebody like him, a Super Fanboy, does exist out there.

  • @carlpain No, you shut up. Your a baby too. Keep saying that and he’s going to bite you in the a**.

  • Only title I would be halfway interested in is Kingdoms of Amular and I already own it

So again nothing for me this month :/

    Bring more AAA+ titles

  • @285: YOU’RE! It’s “YOU’RE.” You got mad because I said something wrong about your “boyfriend”?

  • @carlpain No, because you’re (There, I got it right this time. Ok?) being a complete dolt. He’s just a gamer like the rest of us. I expect you to treat people the same way. I just think he speaks truth to his words.

  • @288: “He’s just a gamer like the rest of us.” Who said I’m a gamer? He speaks the truth to his words? What? Oh, Lord. Now we have a Primer(o)Fanboy Fan Club?

  • @ carlpain, dont bother arguing with gamerlimited and primecognito both of them are couple…

  • @carlpain Yeah you are, admit it. If you post here, then you are a gamer. You play video games, that’s more than enough to be a gamer. And isn’t he being honest by telling his story to these people? Sounds like you didn’t even bother to read it. That’s what you are, a complete dolt.

@hazelcabug Come on, I don’t even know him in real life. And I’m in a relationship with someone else. Are you a kid? Because that’s what you are acting right now. Very childish saying I have a crush with someone I don’t even know online.

  • @hazelcabug Oh yeah by the way, does your mom pay for your games and are you married by her? If so, congratulations. I hope you make a good wife with your mother. I said that to you before but you didn’t bother to read it.

I don’t know why people say that this update still sucks. There’s an RPG, no PSP games, and no fighers. What else? People are too greedy like these two people under me.

  • “…married by her.” What? Hahaha. “Dolt”? That is the only word you know when you are mad? I never called you an idiot, stupid or “dolt.” Telling his story to people? Who cares about that? This is a website/blog about Sony, not the “Stories of my Life” blog. Stop being a fanboy of the fanboy. BTW, I love the fact that yo needed to clarify that you have a relationship with “somebody else.” Lol.

  • When are we going to be able to download all this games please tell me all the same day like UK did because US ps+ has to catch up with UK ps+ because you have to be kidding me if you don’t at least give us something like assassins’ creed 3 or far cry 3 please give us something really good like the last of us, the walking dead survival istict, far cry 3, god of war ascencion, or need most speed most wanted. US has more gamers that UK and this is how you treat us. Please a lot of people are hoping that you do better.

  • @294: We have to wait until Monday to see when the games are coming out. You will have to “eliminate” them with the pass of the weeks.

  • Which games are coming out*

  • @carlpain You never read that post, so don’t make an excuse that you read it. I know a bunch of words, that one is just stuck in my head right now. It’s true that you never did said those things, but you’re still being a jerk. So you want a story of my life too so you know who this someone else is? Like you said, nobody cares. If Primero wants to tell his story to strangers, let him do what he wants. Telling him he should shut up and saying he’s a baby sounds like you actually care for him. Maybe your one of his parents.

  • HAHAHA this sucks compared to EU Far Cry 3 and Dragon Dogma!
Who’s picking the games for Plus? He’s doing a bad job.

  • Yeah, PrimeroIncognito is my son. Damn you! Why you have to be a fanboy, son? BTW, it is “…YOU’RE one of his parents.” Come on, dude. Don’t make this too easy for me. Now you are calling me a jerk. See? You can’t have a conversation because you need to insult somebody to try to prove a point.

  • Thank you for not pulling a Rayman Origins on Hotline Miami or Sine Mora, giving faux discounts and then offering the game for free.

That being said, I’m never buying anything on the PSN store ever again though, only PSN+ sub, and 1$ Vita games with trophy support, since those never get into the IGC.
