PS3 System Software Update (v.4.50)

Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.50) will be available. We’ve added some features and improvements to make downloading system updates and Sony Entertainment Network online store purchases more convenient for all PSN users. In addition, we’ve made it easier to move games, movies and other content from your PS3 to PlayStation Vita with Wi-Fi data transfer.

Here are some of the new enhancements you’ll find when you update your PS3 to version 4.50:

  • Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
  • Auto download support of purchases made on the Sony Entertainment Network online store will be made available to all PSN users.
  • New options for Trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.

With the auto download features for system updates and SEN online store purchases, you can set a two hour time interval for your PS3 to turn on from standby mode and check for updates as well as content to be automatically downloaded. Any purchases made in the SEN online store before your designated time will automatically start downloading during that interval. For example, if your Automatic Update time is set for 10AM-12PM, and you purchase a game while you’re away from your PS3 via the SEN online store (at work or school via PC or maybe on your daily commute via iOS or Android) at 9:30AM, the content you purchased will start downloading while you’re away. This adds convenience and will help you get into your games quicker, so you can start playing when you return home. You can find the new settings on the XMB under  [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Automatic Update].

  • why not have the option to DELETE a trophy list from a game.

i would live to get rid of some 10% or less completed games from my list that i know i’ll never get back to either because of time or just because the game sucked.

maybe syncing trophies would be faster if the lists could be cleaned up.

  • QUOTE:
“Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.”

-> since when did the PS Vita have an ethernet port o.O?

  • If this bricks my PS3 again I’m gonna be pissed…….

  • why not have the option to DELETE a trophy list for a full game?

i would love to get rid of some 10% or less completed games from my list that i know i’ll never get back to either because of time or just because the game sucked.

maybe syncing trophies would be faster if these lists could be cleaned up.

  • @151 i was confused by that as well.

also why not just download to your vita over wifi?

the only time i downloaded a vita game to my ps3 was by accident in a cross/buy/play thing where both were autodownloaded to my ps3 and i didnt notice.

  • When I updated my system it completely shut off my system It will not come on any ideas.

  • Will we ever get an update witch allows us to change our PSN ID?

  • @155
    hit the power button. :)

  • Nice additions but was there a desire to hide your trophies? I may be missing something but I cant think of a reason why you would feel the need to do that.

Well, if your parents dont want you playing GTA, i guess you could hide those trophies so they dont see them and know you have been playing maybe?

  • @158

yeah i dont really understand the need for it. maybe someone can explain.

i’d rather have a “DELETE all history of NAME OF GAME HERE being put into my PS3” button

  • My trophy list was reset to 0, how is this possible?

  • Little dissapointed by the new trophy hide feature, i was hoping to be able to hide them from myself. Being a former ps+ user i have about a dozen games with 0% because i didn’t like them. At the very least allow us to remove games with 0% from our trophy list.

  • I don’t know if Sony has any pull on the Youtube app, but choosing one letter at a time and no space or backspace button is uneccessary. Takes forever to search something on it.

  • ive got a problem. i just updated. everything is normal and the sound works. i click into grand theft auto and the sound no longer works? i put a different game and same problem. NO sounds in game. YES sound in main menu, this happened right after i updated the PS3, Can anyone help?

  • Hi guys I want update my ps3 and its bricked . Safe mode also not working. I don´t now what should I do. Sorry for my bad English I am from Czech Republic.

  • Eric or anyone at Sony.

I went to the page that describes the PS3 update to 4.50.

It mentions pretty much what the update does, however, there is no indication of how to get the Vita to wirelessly connect to the PS3.

I’ve tried several times after updating my PS3, however, the Vita is still asking that I connect a USB to the PS3.

Is there a Vita update that has to be done still for this to work, or did this update not work for this feature ?

    thank you.

  • Hey, you guys forgot about how it bricks PS3’s as well.

  • Hey, Sony! Very nice features there! I really liked the PSV-PS3 transfer feature via Wifi! However… you didn’t tell us, how to use it… :/ Anyone knows?

  • How about he PS Vita get update to turn itself on as well with time set. It would be cool but it should work right?

  • @169 my vita turns on to sync trophies and download updates. i think it’s been able to do that since they added ps+

  • I usually wait about a week before I download an update. That way I make sure there are no issues with it. Will I still have the option to postpone the download once I update to this new version of the software?

  • The real question is:Will this update leave my PS3 bricked for 1 week like the last one?…anyway I’ll never download an update again before checking the reactions in the internet 1st.

Here is what you should add to an update for PS3.

Sony I’ll just keep asking this…because its a real shame that you guys haven’t did something about this…PS3 needs an update to show “online” our friends who are playing on Vita and also the game they’re playing of course….you guys added the lvl of the trophies in the right upper corner of our profiles so you can pretty much add “Vita” written in some part of our profiles when we are playing on Vita. This is something that should’ve been added since the beginning.Stop focusing on the stupid PS4 and do something about this. Please…thank you.

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • @ 21 UNCyrus – OMG I cant stop laughing with this…

“It would have been great if we could have hidden the trophies on a per game basis, instead of an All or None approach via the Privacy Settings.

I know I bought a few games that I didn’t like, and now I have them constantly hanging onto my profile with 0% Completion. I thought this update was going to make it so I could toss the dead weight out of my trophy case.

Please consider this for a future update. We should be able to choose which games show, not just whether they show or not and to whom.”

“Weird but I follow directions as stated by fellow users but Im not seeing privacy settings for individual trophies”

I was confused as well until I realized you need to be in online mode for trophies. There you can access privacy settings for individual games. :)

  • Well I look forward to checking out the latest firmware a little more.

  • Though personally I find hiding trophies to be a pretty useless feature. Many people are going to hide every game in which they don’t have platinum/100%. They should have limited this feature to games with 0% trophies.

I would have preferred the ability to delete games with 0% trophies, perhaps with a few levels of “are you sure?” screens tossed in to comfort the paranoid.

  • Okay, so Call of Duty was working when I went to bed last night, when I woke up this morning they had the 4.50v update for the PS3. Well I tried to start CoD4 this morning after the update and go online but it keeps giving me error 32 and telling me I need to be signed into Playstation Network. Now I realized that the update changed the Playstation Network from the Full Playstation Network to just PSN on the XMB menus. Does anyone think that the error could possibly be that the Activision servers could be misinterpreting the newly renamed Playstation Network to only PSN? Does anyone else have this problem either?

  • +1 for filtering content in download list.

  • most people are trying to update to 4.50 but it gets stuck on 99% can anyone help.

  • Sony,

For your next firmware update, can you PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LET ME STORE MORE THAN ONE INTERNET CONNECTION SO I DON’T HAVE TO RE-ENTER THE DAMN WEP KEY EVERY TIME????

Literally EVERY OTHER DEVICE I OWN does this, even my PSP.

PLEASE add this to your next update. It’s got to be easy enough to implement, and it’s PATHETIC that it’s still missing. I get tired of re-entering my 20 digit key every time I bring my PS3 back to my parents’ house.

    Thank you :)

  • Is anyone else getting stuck at 99% during the install of the update? My system has been stuck on 99% since last night, I tried restarting twice, and it hasn’t helped.

  • This SUCKS I did this update and some how I cant do anything It says Playstation 3 Demonstration Mode 4.50 SONY WTF? I Cant Access Anything! PLEASE HELP!

  • Sounds like it is a good update. Thought the update will be bad.

  • i got only one issue with the update “i cant bloody play any game now once i updated my system to version 4.50. i tried with gta V n it froze the system at loading. fifa14 freezes at the menu. wat kind of an update is sony pulling out? it has rendered my system useless !!!! it was just doing fine in the previous firmware version!

  • I’m glad that the update is already up to download from the PC, I would never risk to update the PS3 directly, especially taking into account my internet connection xD

I’ve been reading some comments and I must agree with some of them, there are some features that I would like to have in the PS3.

    – I would like to be able to sort alphabetically the games in the XMB
    – To have a “search” tool in the download list, I already have 300 items, I can’t imagine the ones that have more than 1000 xD
    – I’d really like to be able to erase/delete the trophies with 0%

  • Be careful updating the update bricked my system. I have a ps3 fat and after the update it no longer works.

  • they need to add the trophy grouping again for the dlc and regular games in seperateoptions so you can still get platinum without doing the dlc stuff

  • Anyone get the 80710723 error while trying to complete this update?
If so, how do I get past it?

  • Only one important question: is it safe?

  • Whenever i try to update it goes to 99% then it just stops going, sometimes it tells me i have an error
    Can somebody please help me?

  • A feature I think would be nice is if I delete downloaded content from the PlayStation Store I have the option to see a list of deleted items. If I click on the deleted item it ask me if I want to re download that item again. I think it would be easier than having to navigate the store to download that content again. Also I want the ability to edit my delete list and clear all or clear selected items. You can even add a menu that says ‘Manage Deleted Items’ and keep the list there. I think this would be helpful when you have multiple people in your house, like a little brother, who might delete a demo you were playing. You can see what was deleted and can easily re download one or more of the deleted items. Even a shutdown when done option would be a nice touch to the feature.

  • does everyone see the link at the top for blog share? that is where you can suggest new features. good constructive comments like “how do your connect the vita wirelessly to the ps3”. please stop saying “let us delete our trophies”..do you really think the more you say it in the commnts that it will get them to do it?

  • A new feature that would nice is a ‘Suggest this game to a friend’. You can place the option to the games launch icon in the top of the sub menu. You can attach a message to game/demo suggestion to a friend. On his end he will see you message and a quick download icon of the demo and he can have a link the contents page in the PlayStation Store. He can download the demo directly from the friends message without having to locate it in the PlayStation Store if he chooses. If its purchased content it will take you into the store right to the content page of the suggested content so he can review it and possibly purchase it.

  • I would also love a way to be able to search our download list, But I highly doubt they will do that for us now with the PS4 so close to release. I will bet that it will be a feature of the PS4 as with the other things that are needed. I don’t know why Sony refuses to make these changes because the changes that us customer’s are asking for are possible.

  • The official releases notes make no mention at all of Wifi data transfer between the PS3 and Vita. Because of that and the fact no one can figure out how to do so, I can only conclude that feature is not in this update and the post here is mistaken.

  • All this is nice but… 4.50 BRICKED MY PS3

  • Update has done something wrong to my system. Booted it up for first time after update, and no video out. The orchestral tones (audio) are present through HDMI, but no visuals. 2x checked on separate T.V., same issue.

  • Hallo,

    was könnte ich machen?? :((

  • @193 – WCKidRock

Yes, you can post in blogshare as you stated.

    But…..Eric does mention above to:

‘Let us know what you think about these new features in the comments below.’
