SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.
This decision also affects PlayStation Plus members’ Instant Game Collection for launch. To be clear, DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released. For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, I’m pleased to announce that Contrast, the highly anticipated game from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free as part of Instant Game Collection. If you’re not aware of Contrast, it will whisk you away to a surreal vaudevillian, film-noir inspired reality full of performance, intrigue, shadow-play and drama. Please check out the trailer below. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is unlike anything you will have played before.
We’re also offering members access to an exclusive “Open Weekend” trial of Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer on December 28-29.
We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DRIVECLUB launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision. And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year. At launch alone, we have Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Battlefield 4 to name but a few, as well as the incredible list of indie games coming to PS4. A broad portfolio of games will be available on PS4 before the end of the year, and with games such as inFAMOUS Second Son, The Order 1886, Destiny, Watch Dogs and now DRIVECLUB coming next year, the strength of the software line-up on PS4 is unprecedented.
DRIVECLUB is a really ambitious racing title and the game is looking stunning. The extra time we’re giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait.
thats cool.. early 2014 will be here before we know it. the delay is dissapointing but gamers wont complain playing the game when its done right. like you guys said ,there will be much to play until DC releases. take your time guys.. make the game as good as possible.

Usually I am okay with a game getting delayed for quality reasons. I understand that sometimes developers need more time to polish up a game. However, this is absolutely ridiculous. This should have been announced a month or two ago instead of right now. What a slap in the face. Sorry Sony, but I am going to switch my pre-order to another PS4 launch game. I’ll just pick up DriveClub later once they actually announce a real release date without doing another bait and switch like they did here.

i preordered ps4 the minute it went on sale. i also preordered driveclub and watchdogs. wow. so now im supposed to still get my ps4 day one? ill have nothing to play. i hate shooters so it looks like im screwed. you guys knew this was going to be delayed waaaayyyyyyy before this. im pissed. its bad business. you guys talked allllll that big boy talk at E3 now look where you are. im crushed. im leaving my house in 5 minutes to go to gamestop to cancel my ps4 preorder and then im taking that cash to best buy to reserve an xbox one and FORZA 5. i wanted a ps4 so bad but given the big talk at E3 and now this, im taking my business elsewhere. ill just get a ps4 when it has something i want to play. you guys should give people a bigger heads up in the future.

Sony is doing a major launch of a console that will last at least 6 years. They promised a major AAA retail title free with plus right at launch. I know it was a bit stripped down but you could still get a platinum so not that stripped. They should still be giving us a major retail release. Knack or Killzone. It would at least give us as much as Xbones are. Xbox is getting FIFA and Killer Instinct. So one retail one psn sounds about right to me.

I’m glad it will still be part of the instant collection at launch even though it sounds like a demo of sorts.. I do want a solid racing game but was going to try it out first anyways for free. Hopefully with the delay they add in car modifications such as engines, trans, etc.
Good news, because at PAX this game looked like a badly aliased PS3 game with jaggies everywhere. I hope you’re getting a new graphics engine, because the game would have been a laughing stock visually compared to Forza 5.
Possible reason for delay is so that Sony doesn’t lose out on releasing an un-established racing title against forza 5 (especially), need for speed, and direct competition with its own Gran turismo 6 in/around December.
Oh hell no. Pre order is being cancelled. Why the hell am I going to burn $400 just to play Killzone. I’ll put that money somewhere else until you guys decide to release some real games.
It will be a while before I buy a PS4 so this doesn’t bother me. The PS3 still has plenty of great games to play. Is the PS4 being released too soon though? Are there more games that aren’t ready?

So, let me get this straight. You guys can’t deliver DriveClub at launch. That’s fine. I’d rather it be ready than some half-arsed beta or something. What I don’t understand is Watch Dogs has already been delayed. Now you want to swap out DriveClub free for Plus members which is a 60 dollar retail, to Contrast which is a PSN indie release that will probably go for 10 or 15 bucks at best?
I got a plus subscription when I heard DriveClub was going to be free for Plus members at the launch of PS4. I figured I’d get the console and have at least one good game to play since most of the launch games are available on PS3 anyway. It’d give me time to save up for a couple PS4 exclusives coming next year.
I’m seriously considering cancelling my console preorder and waiting until Infamous or The Order comes out. At the very least will the PS3 to PS4 upgrades for Assassins’s Creed, Battlefield, etc, etc be available at the launch of the PS4 games? I have most of the ones getting an upgrade and it would be the only reason that I see before the end of the year to go ahead and get the new console
Wow. That is just my luck. The 2 games I was planning to play at launch, Watch Dogs and this. It pains me to say as a huge Playstation fan, that I’m contemplating not picking up the PS4 at launch. I have a $20 non-refundable pre-order for it, but I have no interest in any of the other titles.My excitement for the PS4 is gone.

The Drive Club that PS+ users will get for free is the Plus Edition, aka not the complete game. You’ll have to pay extra to make it a complete edition.
So for the amount of Drive Club that you get vs the PSN title, money wise it’s probably the same.
It is disappointing, for people like me, who likes racing games, who would have paid the extra anyway to upgrade it to the full version, we’ll have to wait more.
Not a deal breaker, i might get NFS in the meantime…

If there’s something we’ve learned after the ps1, ps2 and ps3… is that you can’t go wrong with the playstation brand, specially with their support and games/ portfolio.
Go ahead kids… switch your preorder to the more expensive yet less powerful and less capable xbone. The next 6 yrs WILL NOT be easy for any owner of a machine designed primarily with the imput of publishers and marketers.

Driveclub was looking nice But its better to delay the game than to release it with bugs and what not. I am happy to get Contrast Next month though I was going to buy Contrast and now I don’t have to.
Who said anything about switching to XBone? I said cancel my PS4 until they get their act together. When I ordered my PS4 and my Plus subscription they said Drive Club was going to be free. Now it’s known to be a stripped down, watered down version missing content. Now add to that that it’s being delayed and replaced with a game I never would have bought.
This is all about being lied to. I, and many other people, have made purchases based on their statements about what’s coming for free for Plus users at launch. There are no launch titles that I absolutely have to have.
I am not some little kiddie crying over spilled milk or however you want to put it. I’m a grown man that does not appreciate being lied to and don’t appreciate being ripped off when they can’t keep their end of their announcements. Wow…how embarrassing for a first party game to be delayed 1 month before launch when it was touted as being a launch title for so long. I find it hard to believe that all of a sudden they figure out it won’t be ready.
With this and Watch Dogs being delayed in the same week my excitement for the PS4 launch went from a 9/10 to a 2/10. Was planning on having 3 games at launch now I have 1 and that’s COD which will get old quick.
Now I have to say the Xbone will have a better launch line-up by far and I hate Microsoft. You have dropped the ball big time now SONY. You should have offered up a 50% discount for Killzone or Knack to PS plus members for your failure.
I was getting a PS4 to play resogun and Driveclub. When the “rumor” started that driveclub was delayed I was sure I was going to cancel my PS4 pre-order and just wait it out until next christmas. Now I’m not so sure. Contrast was super fun to play at PAX and between resogun, up for game of the show for my personal likes. So I’m thinking hard and have to make up my mind.

I know this is your schtick. I’m seeing your side an dstarting to agree, but for the record, the PlayStation Plus version of DriveClub was half of a full retail title. So it’s not technically a AAA swap to PSN, but I do see your point.
That’s messed up. all 3 of the racing games I was waiting for on release day for PS4 have been delayed. now I’ll have nothing to play on that release day. how messed up is that. I need compensation.

DriveClub wasn’t really on my radar other than the PS Plus Edition, more upset about WatchDogs delay, but at least DriveClub won’t have to compete with GT6.
I heard about this news as a rumor yesterday. I still plan on getting my Playstation 4 on launch day. There are some games I still want to play once I get the system. I hope that the Playstation Library will be better once the PS4 releases looking forward to more games to buy and download soon.
I agree with other gamers here, Knack should have replaced DriveClub not another indie game.
As someone who is way more excited about Contrast than Drive Club this works out great for me. Regardless of my personal feelings, thanks Sony for trying to lesson the blow of fewer day 1 AAA titles. (I am bummed about Watch Dogs, but that certainly is not Sony’s fault).

@104, the issue is that there are no other release game many of us are interested in. I have Killzone reserved but thats it now that WD was delayed. I hate modern day military shooters and I dont play sportsball games. I’d already have Lego Marvel and AC4’s Western colonial setting is nothing new so it doesnt interest me. Now we’re not even getting real AAA games on PS+ at launch. I dont want an XBO, but Microsoft has a much, much stronger launch lineup with games I’d actually want

Have fun with Peggle 2 ! Plants vs Zombies is a timed exclusive and so is Dead Rising and Titanfall.
While Forza is a good racer, it can’t touch a current gen game that is Gran Turismo 6.
I’ll be getting KZ:SF, Knack, BF4 ,AC4:BF, and maybe NBA 2k14 (the trailer looked sick).
Those should tide me over till Infamous and all the other great games that are going to be on PS4 in 2014.
I didn’t even mention the free 2 play games like DC universe, Warframe, Planetside 2, Retribution and our PS+ games we get free…
Whoa …Some peeps are ignorant..I do know Driveclub will be a much better experience because of this..They will have the online infrastructure in place and able to optimize gameplay more. Hell they might add more awesome stuff to an already awesome looking racer. Hurry up November 15th.

It must have been a difficult decision to make, but I am sure it is the right one. It’s better to delay and launch a proper product than to forcefully keep the deadline and launch an inferior game that will taint both the game and the system. You do not want a new game on a new platform to have problems that may irreversibly destroy a new console’s reputation.
And Contrast looks like a very interesting game.
Having said that, Contrast is not the correct replacement to DriveClub. The game does not properly showcase the PS4’s next-gen power in any way. I believe the proper replacement should be Knack. Or in the spirit of a driving/racing game, NFS Rivals.
What? D; But I wanted to actually *pay* for Contrast. I actually feel disappointed by this. PS+ free games I’ve come to kind of ignore out of sheer lack of time, so in some backwards way that’s how my brain’s associated PS+ games: as me not actually “owning” a license to them, and instead a middleman letting me “borrow” them.
Oh well, maybe I’ll just let my PS+ sub lapse sometime next year and buy it then :P
