PS Vita 3.00 System Update Out Now

Sharon Kapitula's Avatar Posted by Platform Marketing, SCEA

Hi everyone! We’ve released a new system software update for PS Vita, version 3.00. This update includes some great features, like a new application called PS4 Link, which — you guessed it — allows PS Vita to connect to PS4 for Remote Play and Second Screen capabilities. We’re thrilled for everyone to see how PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through this application.

We made a video to highlight some of the key features in this new update. Have a look!

For an expanded list of the new updates included in PS Vita’s 3.00 system software, read on:

PS4 Link

The PS4 Link app has been added to the PS Vita system’s home screen. With this application, you can use your PS Vita to remotely control a PS4 system, and play a range of PS4 games on your PS Vita screen. When you’re playing a game on PS4 that supports second screen features, you can also display information from that game on your PS Vita and use it as a second screen.

Parental Controls

The Parental Controls application has been added to the home screen. You can now manage the duration of game play, and the use of games and videos that have parental controls. You can also control access to certain areas of the system, including the use of the Internet browser and Location Data.

ŸA Panoramic Camera setting has been added. You can now take panoramic photos on PS Vita, and look around the photo by using the PS Vita’s built-in motion sensor.

The application layout for Friends has been improved. There are now four tabs:

  • Find Player on PSN
  • Friends
  • Friend Requests
  • Players Blocked

The Group Messaging application name and icon have been changed to Messages. The application layout has also been improved, and you can now send and receive messages with friends and players on PS4 or on mobile devices installed with PlayStation App.

The icon for the Party application has been changed. You can now voice chat and text chat with friends and players on PS4.

You can now sync the contacts saved in your email account from services including Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. To sync your contacts, select Contact List > Options > [CardDAV Settings] > [Add CardDAV Account], and then follow the screens.

Content Manager

You can now use Wi-Fi to connect your PS Vita to a PS3, and transfer data between them. Your PS Vita and PS3 must be connected within the same network.‎ Also, to use this feature, the system software of the PS3 you’re using must be version 4.50 or later.

PS3 Remote Play

The Remote Play application name and icon have been changed to PS3 Remote Play.

You can now download future system software updates automatically.

You can now display Trophies of PS4 software on your PS Vita. Rarity of the trophy cannot be displayed.

Any chance of ditching the bubble UI in favor of something more closely resembling the PS4’s UI? I’m not sure if I’m alone in this, but the Vita’s interface really bugs me.

Need to add more PSone games bought Crash Bandicoot and cannot play on vita sadly. Also, Interface can be better.

i think it’s VERY IMPORTANT you guys start working on that 100 Icon Limit on the PSVITA
it’s gonna be a pain during next year.
on the other hand it’s always nice to recieve layout updates to keep things fresh. i hope in the future we can have Themes for the dashboard.

I really do not like that you are forcing another app on us that probably can’t be deleted, and is redundant with what’s in the system settings. I’ll never use it (just like a lot of these junk apps) and now I’ll be stuck with it taking up a slot in an already restricting 100 bubble limit (which that itself needs to be addressed).

Everything else seems just fine, but pleased stop with the forced junk apps.

in the future, can there be an update (if possible) for ds3 or ds4 to work on the vita like the vita tv or psp go. my vita’s right logic board is messed up and i can’t use the right analog stick, so i cant really play a majority of the games.

Shadow_Raskolnik said:

November 4th, 6:30 pm

@64 hazelcabug,
There are certain bubbles like Welcome Park, Email, and others that can not be removed at all and as long as there remains a stupid 100 bubble limit all these do for many people is take up valuable space that could be used for games. Sony really has to be able to either allow you to erase these bubbles or the very least raise the limit.

Getting stuck on “Preparing to download” is a feature right? I sure hope that feature gets ported to the PS4!

With the price drop on Amazon & this new update for those that still haven’t bought a PS Vita. This is about as good as it gets mnot to mention the games as well coming out consistently.

“You can now display Trophies of PS4 software on your PS Vita. Rarity of the trophy cannot be displayed.”

Does anybody know exactly what Sharon means by “rarity of the trophy?” Does it mean the usual trophy classification – platinum, gold, silver and bronze – or is it something else?

Broccosparagus said:

We still need an option to delete individual gamesaves data, because some devs have forgotten to input the option to do so in some of their games and they haven’t bothered patching them either.

stop talking about ps4 , i have only ps vita (not willing to buy ps4) and i ask u to make my vita experience much better

1. One thing the FAQ didn’t even hint at is regarding Content Manager and the PS4, and this new update does nothing to help that – will we be able to transfer content (PS Vita/PS1/PSP/Minis games, videos, etc) to/from the PS4?
2. Why are you adding a panorama feature when pretty much nobody uses the camera?
3. In the CMA updates…..why is there no changelog?
4. While you were updating the Messages app, why didn’t you remove the automatic refresh setting? Or better yet, add shorter time intervals? This is especially important when it comes to invites.
5. Speaking of invites, can we now send images and invites to PS3 users (and vice versa)?

I DO appreciate the addition of new items.
But I’m desperate for you guys to add CrunchyRoll and Hulu, and to upgrade the ancient web browser.
It’s killing us Vita owners that video services you can find on garbage RCA $20 clearance specials aren’t available on the most technically advanced handheld gaming device.

My Vita wont turn on properly after updating. Launches to a black screen and doesn’t load any further. Super sad as I wanted to check out the new Firmware!

The most interesting thing aboout this update:

“You can now display Trophies of PS4 software on your PS Vita. Rarity of the trophy cannot be displayed”

I’m really curious about what this actually means.

Nice!!!! Now how about a PS3 firmware update including a brand new interface (getting bored with the old interface). If any of you guys like to play PSone classics, play them on the PS3 for now until they add more for the Vita.

NCWildcat said:

So remote play works best when the PS4 is on an ethernet connection? How many people actually put their consoles on a LAN?

BrendanCBear said:

November 4th, 7:38 pm

Thank you SO much Sony for adding two new applications which take up valuable space on a system that already has an unnecessary, arbitrary limit of 100 applications. There was clearly no reason to revamp the Remote Play LiveArea to support both PS3 and PS4, and no reason to add Parental Controls to the already existing ‘Settings’ app.

Additionally, we continue to pretend that the cameras on the PS Vita aren’t awful by adding a panorama feature. Thank you so much for listening to us! We’re so very happy to influence how the Vita works.

I was really hoping for a better UI but oh well. The browser needs a serious upgrade. If my iPhone can deliver a great browser, why can’t vita?

@95 Of core it works better over ethernet. Any internet connected device will work better wired.
