It’s almost time for the New Year, and we’re ready to kick-off 2014 in a big way. January’s Instant Game Collection will offer PlayStation Plus members loads of amazing titles, starting off with a new PlayStation 4 title — Don’t Starve. A wilderness survival game wrapped in a cute art style, you’ll take control of a Gentleman Scientist trying to make his way home from a mysterious place. Be warned – this is one of those games where you’ll die a lot, but if you ever get frustrated, just look at how cute your buddy Chester is and I’m sure everything will be okay.
For PlayStation 3 owners, you’ll be able to download three critically acclaimed games – DMC Devil May Cry, BioShock Infinite and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. DMC Devil May Cry is a reboot of the beloved franchise, and while Dante may have received a haircut and a new backstory, his weapons and fighting style should be fairly familiar to fans.

Created by the same folks who brought us BioShock, BioShock Infinite has received multiple Game of the Year nominations. This isn’t your average first-person shooter, you’ll gather vigors throughout your journey that will fling your enemies sky-high or unleash a horde of birds to peck at your foes.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons tugs at your heartstrings as you take control of two brothers (who would’ve guessed?), trying to cure their ailing father. You’ll be handling the sons with each analog stick, so once you get the hang of controlling two characters at once, you’ll need to solve various puzzles in order to save the day.
This month PlayStation Vita owners will be able to download Worms: Battle Island and Smart As. Worms: Battle Island stays true to the classic Worms formula of charming turn-based strategy gameplay. You can customize your wormy soldiers and use crazy weapons to take out the opposition.
Finally, Smart As will become your brain’s new best friend. Run through a series of mind-boggling challenges, and see where you stack up against your friends and other people in the world on the leaderboards. If you practice every day, maybe one day you’ll hit the top.

Wow, amazing month! Even though I already have Bioshock: Infinite on PC, I can never get the textures to display correctly. Guess I won’t be in a hurry to get a new video card and will be playing it on PS3 then. DmC is a game I will never buy since it’s by Capcom. Since it’s free, I look forward to playing it. As for Brothers and Don’t Starve, I’m still going to claim them even though I’ll probably never get around playing them because I don’t have a PS4 and other two games will keep me busy for quite a while.
Athough, my only gripe is this month’s Vita games are boring. A “Brain Age” like game and a Worms game I already own. Luckily I don’t have a 64 GB memory card on my Vita yet, so I won’t be able to use it to the full potential.

I love this months games. (Although I already have Bioshock Infinite ) and I have to say that my PS+ membership has paid for itself at least a dozens of times over. I would like to suggest that in instances like mine where we already own one of the games we get some other kind of bonus, perhaps a free DLC or Theme. But all in all keep up the good work.
Ps Vita games are sooooo BAD that even you guys are ashamed to mention them in the summary. That’s pretty disappointing. Wonder what you are waiting to replace Uncharted, Wipeout and Gravity Rush (been there for more than a year now) with other games (please note: games not bull**** software). Thank you!
This is exactly why I took the plunge and bought a PS3 many months ago. I expected a good game to play next month but did not expect PS+ to throw out 3 games for the PS3 that has been on my radar and haven’t got the chance to pick up yet.

Just wondering since I have a PS4 why none of these games are available for me to play. There is a limited playlist for it right now and I talked to people and they said that it would be possible for PS3 games to be bought digitally to make them playable on the PS4. I have the PS3 but am wondering when if at all it will come to the PS4.
Great update always wanted to try DMC but never really got the chance now I can play it.

Wow….this is a crazy Playstation Plus offering. Some truly amazing games are included in that package. Even though I have a PS4 it really makes me wish my PS3 was still functioning to play DMC and Brothers. Also, I’m missing Walking Dead Season 2 :(

Grwat list but I’ve played most of it before still awesome but those of us who buy games like crazy already played DMC Bioshock and 2 brothers hope we see some great sales also maybe even for ps4 owners we need love too.
Very high quality games coming in January. I actually just finished playing Brothers. Amazing story on that one. Also looking forward to Don’t Starve on PS4. I’ve never played a Bioshock before, even though you already gave us 2 a while ago. But I’ll definitely try this one out at some point. And due to the guys on the blogcast raving about it, I guess I’ll go ahead and try out DmC. Never been a fan of Dante, but I love Ninja Theory, so I’ll take this new version for a spin. As for the Vita-compatible titles, not a fan of strategy games so Worms is a clear miss, but Smart As… should be interesting to keep around on my Vita for a while. I remember playing Brain Age way back in the day, so it’ll be cool to have something similar on my Vita.
All in all, great month and great way to start the year. And excellent job on the video, Kristine! You’ve got a great narration voice. :)

We used to get all the new content at the beginning of the month, years ago. But too many people complained when they didn’t get free stuff the rest of the month, so PS started doling it out throughout the month instead. Does everything have to be like in EU? Seriously… And it doesn’t matter when the Vita title comes out. Whether it was at the beginning of the month or end, you’re still waiting a full month between new releases. This way, you get at least two weeks of new titles, instead of only once a month.

Amazing PS3 line up this month. I’d say the best one we’ve had since the IGC started in June 2012. I still never got to play Bioshock 1, but I played the second one when it was free for Plus several months back and really enjoyed it, and have heard nothing but good things about Infinite, so I’m super excited for that. The DmC demo was pretty fun but it was never a game I was going to buy…luckily I no longer have to! And I don’t know about Brothers…but I’m willing to try almost any game. Keep updates like THIS coming Sony!
I don’t own a PS3 any more, so I say this is hardly and exciting month for PS4 owners. When will we, early adopters of the PS4, get good games for being a PS Plus member? So far I have been very disappointing, and I realize there are hardly any PS4 games, but at the very least, Sony could provide discounts for good games; because, I am not in to indie games. Also, the PSN has had a lot of trouble with connection. I did not expect to have to pay to play and then get a poor connection. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Woof – this is truly the first month I’ve actually disliked. There have been months where I was neutral, but this one is just flat out bad. Only interesting game available is Don’t Starve and it’s on PC. But hey, that’s a risk I take with PS+. I’ll give Brothers a try and download Worms. Everything else is a major pass.
Either way, thanks Sony – PS+ is still a service I’m supremely happy with.

I wasn’t wrong to go back to my gaming roots, Playstation. It was a good idea to switch from 360 to PS3. Now I have to cross out one of the to-buy-list; BioShock Infinite.
Great update. Very impressed this month though I have Bioshock. Thanks guys. Just an idea if you read this far. Have you thought about adding 2 more games to IGC and calling it the retro section specifically for older classics? This will make those who complain about getting an old title happier while still introducing a new audience to timeless games. You have tons of games you can put out there adding more value to a great program. Just my 2 cents. Happy New Year.
Great games to start off the year.
As of this post i cannot sign into the PSN on my PS4. I keep getting this; The connection to the server has been lost (CE-34861-2). I can go to the PSN store. I can use Vid Zone,Netflix,etc,but i can’t access my friends list or play any multiplayer games. When i go to the PSN status page it says everything is up and running. Clearly not. What gives Sony?
DMC and BioShock are definitely the winners here and I’ll check out Brothers as well. I hate seeing PSP games for Vita, especially ones that are not the cream of the crop. And Smart As is an okay choice but not something that interests me – meh Vita lineup overall.
I’m also waiting for AAAs on PS4, though I understand your choices are very limited – there weren’t many launch titles. Indies just don’t really do it for me though

This comment above REALLY annoyed me. Why do some people want to be so divisive – especially fellow PSN members? I just don’t understand that whole “my thing is better than your thing” nonsense. Hamza, you should be ashamed of yourself for even writing that, much less posting it.
That said, I have to say i’m pretty disappointed to find out for the first time since joining PS+ 2 or 3 months ago, that America gets different choice to elsewhere in the world. What is the reasoning behind offering different product in different areas of the world? It can’t be down to licensing, and it’s certainly not marketing. It makes ZER0 sense.

To me, Bioshock Infinite is 2013 Game of the Year and I’m glad the ones that still haven’t played it will be able to play now.
Regarding the video highlights, even though I loved Kristine’s voice, I find this kind of videos unnecessary. They don’t add anything to me. I prefer more pools and more feedback on our commentaries.
