PlayStation Plus: January Preview

It’s almost time for the New Year, and we’re ready to kick-off 2014 in a big way. January’s Instant Game Collection will offer PlayStation Plus members loads of amazing titles, starting off with a new PlayStation 4 title — Don’t Starve. A wilderness survival game wrapped in a cute art style, you’ll take control of a Gentleman Scientist trying to make his way home from a mysterious place. Be warned – this is one of those games where you’ll die a lot, but if you ever get frustrated, just look at how cute your buddy Chester is and I’m sure everything will be okay.

For PlayStation 3 owners, you’ll be able to download three critically acclaimed games – DMC Devil May Cry, BioShock Infinite and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. DMC Devil May Cry is a reboot of the beloved franchise, and while Dante may have received a haircut and a new backstory, his weapons and fighting style should be fairly familiar to fans.

Created by the same folks who brought us BioShock, BioShock Infinite has received multiple Game of the Year nominations. This isn’t your average first-person shooter, you’ll gather vigors throughout your journey that will fling your enemies sky-high or unleash a horde of birds to peck at your foes.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons tugs at your heartstrings as you take control of two brothers (who would’ve guessed?), trying to cure their ailing father. You’ll be handling the sons with each analog stick, so once you get the hang of controlling two characters at once, you’ll need to solve various puzzles in order to save the day.

This month PlayStation Vita owners will be able to download Worms: Battle Island and Smart As. Worms: Battle Island stays true to the classic Worms formula of charming turn-based strategy gameplay. You can customize your wormy soldiers and use crazy weapons to take out the opposition.

Finally, Smart As will become your brain’s new best friend. Run through a series of mind-boggling challenges, and see where you stack up against your friends and other people in the world on the leaderboards. If you practice every day, maybe one day you’ll hit the top.

We’re also trying something new this month – we’ve created a video preview highlighting all of the titles you’ll receive as a Plus member, so give it a look and let me know what you think in the comments below!

  • Does PS PLUS still needs ps vita community? I think they don’t. Whole december there’s only few to non vita games on sale. And now this coming next month January, a very lame psp game and a very lame vita title? seriously I feel bad to those ps plus subscriber who only owns a ps vita system.

  • Such an amazing line-up! It’s a good thing I upgraded to a 500GB PS3! :D

  • I think it’s best to remove the VITA on PS PLUS IGC and replace it with a decent ps vita sale on games every week. IMO ps vita owners will be more happy to get sale on vita games to enjoy the PS PLUS subsription rathen than getting only lame IGC and almost zero games on sale every week.

  • It’s absolutely insane how great PS+ is.

  • Loving the news about Bioshock on PS3. Sadly not at all interested in the games for the Vita, that’s what I was looking forward to the most. I’m so backlogged on the PS3 haha!

  • Hi, are these offers only for the US? How about SEA? I’m not PSN+ member yet, and will be one if these offers cover SEA. Thank you.

  • The PS4 slection sucks, but the ps3 has been great….? And will all this content be available for ps4 when we get gekie? I mean seriously i was really hoping ps4s line up wouldn’t be like ps3s launch line up, i guess i can help it i jusr expected more out of you guys. I’m not complaining because xbone can go jump off a bridge, just was hoping for more.

P.S. Will themes ever be available for ps4 i really want one i hate the plain blue screen,#imjustsayin

  • So I booted up my BioShock Infinite Full Game Trial (even our demos have to run out before Plus subscribers can purchase content), and run across the quartet. Thanks to some spoilers on me, I “got” the foreshadowing, but rather wish I didn’t. I’ll blame Jim Sterling, and my NEED to watch the Jimquisition. (I should get back to Extra Credits, but there’s to many relevant games I haven’t played yet to risk it.)

  • *sigh* “Creditz”, “too”.

  • The vita is crying

  • Great List, Can’t want to play them!

  • Fantastic month! I cannot wait. Please keep this up Sony, it’s wonderful to actually get AAA titles instead of poker or pinball games. Great way to start 2014!

  • Thank you PS Team!!!!

  • Wow. Just Wow.
One of the best months to date!

Thank you Sony, developers and publishers for making this possible. PS Plus has been better and better.

  • Good day, already some time since it was announced that the game would be released LEGEND OF RAVEN for PSVITA in December, but so far nothing of the game, they would know about when will be the release

  • Really?? A PSP game for Vita??? What the hell guys….
Also, when we will actually get a real PS4 game, aside those indie crap???
PS3 games are great, but Ps4 and Vita are really let downs.
You guys should give as an option to get a game we missed on the IGC when there´s something we really despise, like the Vita games this month.
    Oh Sine Mora…

  • Great list! Any discounts in the coming month?

  • would be great if all the PSN problems would be fixed. Had my PS4 for 3 days now, I’ve only managed to get it about 1h of Resogun and 1h of Killzone in small sessions separated by hours of frustration with PSN and fixing licenses.

It’s 5 minutes of Resogun, then fix license, logout then login to PSN. 5 minutes of Resogun, fix license, logout then login to PSN … over and over and over

    I thought that PS4 won’t have an always-connected requirement for single-player games.

  • Big big January! But, where´s Far Cry 3? Please!

  • Bioshock Infinite looks GREAT!

    YESSSSSSS!

    Thanks!
Happy new year to everyone! Peace on Earth and war on games!

  • is there a date for this i now that dmc is out now but when are the others coming? what day?

  • What’s free is free, but I amnot satisfied with the VITA selection TBH·

  • now i totally i have to buy a ps vita

  • You guys keep this up, I may never buy another game again!

Wait a second… don’t take that as impetus to hold back on awesome titles in the future, though!

  • @260

Yeah I agree, bought DmC for $20 when on sale and Infinite for $28 on Newegg a few months back. Not regretting them one bit, but I wish games that are discounted wouldnt show up on IGC a few months later. Makes me feel like I should wait then spend my money but then again I think so and so game will never offered free then bam it becomes free. Still love supporting Sony and the lineup is amazing for January next month.

  • @321 It’s not free: $17.99/3 months or $49.99/1 year. That being said, yes, vita games for january are total crap. It’s said Sony is not rewarding early adopters (PS4) and loyal believers (Vita).

  • buen catalogo para Enero yeahh

  • Please PLEASE tell me I can download the ps3 games onto my ps4!! i was wanting too buy bioshock infinite and dmc but was going too wait & see if i could buy a hardcopy on ps4 now if i could get this for free that would be amazing and ps plus would’ve already more than paid itself off!!! O.O

  • worms is a psp title? oh i thought it was the Vita one? well it’s ok. still the bioshock inf and DMC make up for it.

  • I have the gift of buying games before they get on PSN Plus Free Games list. Just bought DmC last month. Lucky me for not buying Bioshock Infinite yet, will certainly play it now :)

  • Fantastic! Never bothered to play any of these releases… Now i have the perfect incentive to play them all! My PS3 will be getting some playtime after all.. Not to mention another great free PS4 game!

  • aaawww dude!!

first of all, the fact that i will have so many ps4 games when i buy mine is crazy, and for free!!

the vita games are alright, december was better but still, some love for the vita, very acceptable,

i never played any of these games!! looking forward to all of them, sony ftw!

  • Nice month, but please consider adding more exclusive titles to the IGC, since as a multi-platform owner (like many) it’s being pretty common to see games that i already own in other platforms, while i would enjoy a lot to see more exclusives titles like Okami, Tales series, and so on.

  • This is a great update. I already have Bioshock: Infinite, but I don’t have the other games.

  • Smart As? Really?

  • You’ve got to be kidding with the Vita picks. I’ll give Smart As a chance but the demo didn’t wow me but a PSP game?? If you’re going to give us a PSP game, give it alongside a more current game, please. Something with trophies. Give us the first Atelier game or something that hasn’t sold very well. Give us any one of the tons of small PSN games. I thought we were done with the PSP games. Sine Mora and Urban Trials were good, cheap, Vita games that I’m sure didn’t break your bank. I thought that was the new way you were going.

  • What an awesome month for Plus. I’m interested in all of those games. I have Don’t Starve for PC and it’s a really good game. I’ll be happy to play it on PS4 when I get one.
I loved the video. Keep doing that. It was cool.

  • Awesome :D

  • Ps+ needs fighting games.

  • bioshock yeah!

  • One of the best updates in a while. New PS4 content is extremely welcome even if I’m not sure what it is. I don’t usually play FPS but Bioshock Infinite is one I’ve been wanting to try if the time was ever right – guess that time is January. Tried playing DmC but the disc I got from GameFly was bad and I never tried again. I’ve been resisting the temptation to buy Brothers and Smart As for a while now just because I thought they would come to Plus soon. Glad I waited. A little disappointed to get a PSP game, but it’s Worms and I’ve wanted to play one of those for years so why not.

  • January 2014 is going to be a killer month for PS+ gaming, I can’t wait to play Bioshock Infinite as well as DMC and Brothers. Thanks!

  • Looking good Sony, Looking good!

  • I’d love to see Plants vs. Zombies again for PS Vita owners, I missed out on that the first time because I didn’t own a vita at the time, and I know sometimes you repeat games.

  • THATS FANTASTIC. THANK YOU SO MUCH SONY U.S.

  • This is exactly why PS+ is the best deal in any medium. I was considering buying Infinite (I had already rented it and beat it), DMC and brother. Now I get them all free, unbelievable!!!

    Thanks Sony

One question: I have always wondered the process of getting the games for Free? Do you pay a flat rate to the studio for access to the game? Per download? Just curious if you are able to answer

  • Thank you! Finally a month that includes every game I want.

  • this is awful. the only game for me is brothers. i miss the days of getting a few psn games and ps1 classics. i have most of the full retail games they’ve been giving out. last month (december) there wasn’t anything.

  • I know only a small number of people will read this far down, but this is not an awful update just because you already have some/all of the games. Maybe that’s all you meant: It’s awful for you. I can respect that. But far too many think the whole thing sucks if they own the games. As if there’s some magic Sony Genie out there who knows (and cares) which games you own.

  • Woot finally a new PS4 game!
