It’s officially 2014, and if you checked out our preview post and video last month you’ll know that means mega awesome titles are coming soon! Tomorrow our Plus members will be able to download both Don’t Starve on PlayStation 4 and DMC Devil May Cry on PlayStation 3. Don’t Starve is deceptively cute, so don’t be fooled, this is a hardcore survival simulator. You (as a Gentleman Scientist) will need to gather, hunt and build in order to stay alive in this mysterious land.

DmC Devil May Cry refreshes the story of Dante and gives him a bit of a makeover, but the combat is still as action-packed as you’d expect from a DMC title. Dante still packs his pistols Ebony & Ivory as well as his blade Rebellion, and you’ll have to switch back and forth from Angel and Demon mode in order to rack up your massive combos.

    I’m happy with both of the free games this week but have been really disappointed with the discounts this month. Hopefully more sales are coming soon.

    Yay! Not really into indie games but i’m happy to get a free ps4 title this early. Also glad DMC was the first free ps3 game, since i’m far more interested in that than bioshock. Only real bummer this week is the discount.

    What an excellent way to start off the new year! First month of the year, and my PS+ subscription will more than pay for itself in the first few weeks.

    I should probably get around to beating Devil May Cry HD Collection, and Devil May Cry 4, before starting a game of DmC. 2013 was a good year for hoarding games that I still haven’t even booted up yet. I think my backlog of just PS3 games is close to twenty. Some are still sealed.

    If the PS+ IGC keeps THIS up, my backlog will get even worse. Not that I am complaining.

    Of course there will be trophies since it’s sort of mandatory for most games (except for f2p).
    But there will be no platinum trophy for Don’t Starve.

    DmC is pretty cool, but nothing compared with DMC1 and DMC3. It’s definitely worth the download though. Also, I REALLY hope there’s a huge sale coming up, because those recent discounts are almost irrelevant!

    Hmm, I thought Bioshock Infinite was the main game this month. But it’s ok. I already have DMC (it’s even worth it to buy it). But I’m still busy from last month’s games. Thank Plus!

    Don’t Starve looks more interesting than most Indie games you offer on PS+. I’ll give it a try. Hopefully we get more diversity in the PS4 IGC sooner rather than later

    I hope this gets a lot more people to check out DMC as well, it was an absolutely fantastic game that got a lot of uninformed criticism based over an ultimately superficial character design tweak.

    I’ve got to say, The one thing I think I appreciate most about what Sony Playstation is doing is NOT reducing the amount of offerings on one system when adding another into the fold. Started with 12 games for PS3, then added 6 for Vita without taking away from the original 12, now adding in PS4 for 20 free games at any given time. Sure, some may stick around a little longer than I’d like, but I’m not complaining. Good job, Sony! Plus, really looking forward to trying out DMC.

    I started building my PS3 library before I even owned a PS3, thanks to PS+. Nice to see that when I get my PS4, I will already have a decent collection of games, right out of the box.

    PS+ absolutely CRUSHES M$’s ‘Games With Gold’. There isn’t even any comparison whatsoever. And, Nintendo? When’s the last time they ever gave away anything for free, besides a bunch of old Gameboy Advance games, to try to stave off butthurt from people who got suckered into buying a 3DS, just to see the price get dropped by eighty bucks within the first few months.

    Thx for games added in IGC . But i’m sad that are not Discounts 2 weeks in row . I like previous ones , but EU PSN is doing amazing sale January , i’ll like to see such one sale big that lasts 1 month.

    I am excited for Dmc because i never played it and it looks like darksiders, plus i hoping its a good game. Dmc is the only ps3 game that i did not play that is going to be free this month. i played bioshock infinite and brothers already. Good job ps plus team keep up the good work! :)

    Since multiple posts commented about the EU discounts, I went there to check it out myself. Here are the findings:

    1) That is one long list of discounts – especially since US has one (1) discount.
    2) It runs the whole month – Jan 1st through 31st.
    3) The sales are listed for the whole month – no more guessing on what else is going to be on sale or when or how much.

    To Kristine & gang:
    I understand US is not EU (duh!) and the deals/discounts will not be the same. But, I do have to say, they (your EU peers) give a lot of detail as to what to expect during the month.

    So, er Kristine, I am not sure how much insight *you* have into what is coming this month, but you guys may want to check out how they run the shop across the Atlantic and see if you can emulate.

    Credit where its due, you guys have started giving the preview for the plus games and doing a really good job of it. Thank you for the awesome service – no complaints there, we are only asking for more information to be made available for us to make better use of our monies.

      Thanks for the note on this one, but for now we can only really preview out what the sales are week by week, mostly because things can change leading up to the start of the sale. Not for every game that is scheduling a deal, but for some, it can happen. With that margin for change in effect, it wouldn’t be good to preview out sales, then have to backtrack on it. Hope that makes sense! =)

      Nothing saying it can’t change in the future, but for now, we can only give a window of upcoming sales for the week, but thanks again for the note!
