PlayStation Now Streaming Game Service Coming this Summer

PS Now

Today, at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, we announced that PlayStation Now (PS Now), our new streaming game service, will be available in the US this summer. With PlayStation Now, you will be able to stream popular hits and classic games from the PS3 library, first on PS4 and PS3 systems, followed by PS Vita.

In addition to PlayStation platforms, most 2014 US models of Sony’s BRAVIA TV lineup will support PS Now. Eventually the service will expand beyond PlayStation platforms and Sony devices, allowing you to stream PlayStation games across a broad range of Internet-connected devices.

Leveraging Gaikai’s advanced cloud-based technology, PlayStation Now will allow you to:

  • Play video games instantly across multiple devices, similar to the way you might stream TV, movies, and music.
  • Stream full games to all of your compatible PlayStation devices including PS4, PS3, and PlayStation Vita as well as non-PlayStation devices, beginning with 2014 BRAVIA TV models and expanding to numerous other Internet-connected devices.
  • Always play the most updated version of your game. With games hosted in the cloud, you can take your game with you – just log in with your Sony Entertainment Network account on a compatible device and your games and saved progress will be easily available.

We want to offer you choice when it comes to how you want to access content on PS Now, so you will be able to rent by title for specific games you are interested in. We’ll also offer a subscription that will enable you to explore a range of titles.

PS Now will begin a Beta program in the US at the end of January with an expected full roll-out in the US this summer. Be sure to check the PlayStation.Blog regularly for more updates on the PS Now service.

  • So does this mean we won’t need to buy a PlayStation 4 to play PlayStation 4 games anymore? We can just play PS4 games through other devices?

  • PS4, Vita, PS3, Tablet, Smartphone and Bravia. All things I have. Can’t wait for this service and I can’t wait to sign up for the beta.

  • Will it be available in Canada the same time as the US ?

  • so us only get to beta test Playstation now that sucks but alwell i can wait till the lunch in new zealand

  • Can’t wait for this!

  • Thanks to this I can play The Last of Us and the Uncharted series on my PS4… I will take these games with me to the grave…

  • So if you own a game will that game be available for you to play for free? In that I mean if you have already purchased the game, you won’t have to pay for that game again simply to play it on other devices.

  • I would love to Beta test this! I am curious about the PS Vita streaming. Will we use our PS2 & PS3 games as purchase keys?

  • I hope I can get into the beta! I would love to see how it performs on both my PS3 and PS4.

  • I VOTE FOR …SOCOM 1-2 PEOPLE WANT …SOCOM 1-2 HD AGAIN SOCOM 1-2

  • @308 yeah man I understand that fully. I mean, I understand it would NOT be available for physical games but come on, digital? So that’s why we NEED an answer right now

  • SOCOM1OR2 =H-HOUR WORLDS ELITE!! PS4 SOCOM 1-2 PS4

  • After being born with a PS1 controller and have owning every console made by Sony to date, you have no clue how bad I want to see this on my PS4 now. I would do literally anything to get a part in that closed beta. How much more awesome could Sony get?

  • im confused, one of your selling points for the PS4 and the Gaikai service, it was said with Gaikai’s advanced cloud-based technology. owners would be able to play THEIR library of PS3 games on the PS4. Now all i am reading is renting and buying games for a separate fee from a plus membership, and nothing about being able to play already owned games through the Gaikai’s advanced cloud-based technology without a separate fee. So, the question is..will owners be able to play already owned PS3 games on the PS4 without a separate fee?

  • dissapointing about that ps one and ps2 games cant be added

  • I definitely want to be part of the beta. I’ve been screaming for Puppeteer on the PS4. Finally!!!
Anyone know when they will allow registration for the closed beta?

  • I have a couple of questions:

    1) Will I be able to use this service with one subscription on both my PS4s?

    2) Will I be able to use this service with one subscription on my Master AND childrens sub accounts?

    3) Will I be able to insert a PS3 disc that I already own into my PS4 for verification and play the version in the cloud without paying for a digital copy of the game?

We are a gaming family, so it doesn’t make sense to pay for an entertainment method that isn’t set up for families…

  • Yes, yes! Let me get the beta! :)

My thoughts are all over the place about PlayStation Now. GameFly, Blockbuster Game Pass, etc. I’m curious and excited.

It would be nice to have one system do it all again. I have my PS2 still to play PS2 and PS1 games while my PS3 Slim plays PS3 games. My collection is too large to give up any of them. Sony, please make it easy for me.

  • Looking forward to this service, count me in for the beta! also I sure hope we can purchase games from psnow cloud, like how vudu service works?

  • Ok one more question.
I know about the rental. I know about the monthly service fee.
But we can actually just purchase titles through this service as well?!
I know the discounts are going to be nuts. This is amazing!!! I’m going to be stalking all mead formats for the beta sign up. My PS4 is ready!!!!

  • I really want to see how this is priced. I currently own a bunch of Ps3 games. Why should I pay for something I own already again?

  • if i have already purchased a game on the ps3 digitaly will i get on the playstation now for free and how do i get the beta

  • >Wow. Wow. Much awesome. So gaming ;)
    >mfw when Mathew Harper is very doge
    >mfw i have no face

  • I want that to play last of us and gta 5 on my ps3

  • Will PS Now interrupt PS Plus? I can see there’s a difference with being about to rent any game in the library rather then the PS team pick out free games every week.

  • Hey Matt:

    1. I’d really love to be a part of the beta. I have the connection to utilize it and many Sony devices to try it across.

    2. Any Chance we could see PSP or Vita games come to PS Now?

    3. If PS Vita TV makes a Western release, will it also be able to use PS Now?

  • One question: If I’m playing a PS3 game on my PS4, will I be able to use the share feature? Thanks! I LOVE YOU SONY!!!

  • Subscription?
I kind of regret buying a console.

  • You said 5MBPS+ is the recommended bandwidth.

Is that Mega-Bytes per second (MBps) or Mega-bits per second (Mbps)?

There’s 8 bits in a Byte, and almost everything gets confused by this, so I just wanted to clarify.

  • I wish this would let me use my existing library, otherwise it’s mostly worthless to me :\

  • Long time XBOX 360 owner who made the switch and now am the proud owner of the PS4, First, I am very happy with my new console and I’m looking foward to all the games that will start coming in. And that this was EXACTLY what I was hoping for when I made the switch. This way I could play all those PS3 hits. Very happy, satisfied playstation owner.

  • Sounds awesome!!! I want in on the beta!!! I have a PS4, PS3, Vita, and Sony Bravia TV with a killer internet connection atleast 20 MB a second… Please send me an invite!

  • it’ll be great if Sony integrate PSNow within PS Plus, that would be so convenient. Lets go for that Sony !! that would definitely get more people to subscribe to PS Plus.

  • This sounds great and all, but I thought I had read that we’d be able to play our existing purchases from the PS3 for example on the PS4 but you say this is basically just a rental service. So is that not an option because I can’t see myself renting a game that I own just to play it in a different room on the PS4

  • Can’t wait for this service can’t wait wait I’m so excited can wait to try it when it comes out! Keep up the great work PlayStation u kick add! This is why I love PlayStation! PlayStation for life!

  • GTA V ONLINE PLZ

  • I want to be a part of the closed beta! That would be awesome!

  • Will I be able to stream games on my Sony tablet? (Sony Experia Tablet Z) and use a DS3/DS4 remote?

  • Seriously Sony… please take my money… or at least add me in the Beta?

  • No mention of PC support, which I think is a huge opportunity, and is what I’m personally very interested in. I would focus on that rather than the mobile platforms. Who is going to want to play a PS3 game on their phone?

Also, I will be very disappointed if I have to pay to play games that I already own (both digital and disc-based). I appreciate disc-based might be a challenge, but there must be some way to authenticate the user owns a game to allow them to stream it through PS Now. I look forward to hearing more about this.

  • You stated that a 5 MBPS+ connection is recommended. Is that 5 megabits per second or 5 megabytes per second? I can’t tell since MBPS is all capitalized.

  • Digital Games i bought off PSN will i have to buy them again or will i be able to stream them using playstation now

  • Awesome but still want to know if games i’ve already purchased but not completed will be playable over the service without having to pay for the game again and without starting over.

  • I do hope this is not an additional charge from PS Plus. If so, I’d rather just pay to play my PS3 games I already own on my PS4.

  • Will this service be worldwide?

  • Any chance this will lead to the Vita TV making an appearance in the west? I would buy the crap out of that thing!

  • What will happen to a guy who got a crappy internet like me? ;_;

  • So many incredible things coming out of Playstation and Sony rite now. A very exciting time to be a Playstation Gamer, I hope we get the opportunity to Beta test these new Services especially the Playstation now service it sounds so exciting.

  • As far as the subscription goes, I would have no problem paying an extra ten or so dollars each month for the service.

  • is 4mb connection good for ps now
