The Drop: New PlayStation Releases for January 28th, 2014

Ryan Clements's Avatar Posted by Senior Specialist, SIEA Social Media

The Drop

An iconic video game hero receives a herculean upgrade this week in the world of PlayStation. Legendary adventurer Lara Croft returns in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which launches Tuesday on PS4.

Originally released on PS3 last year, this reboot showcased the breathtaking and brutal origin story of a gaming great. But the team at Crystal Dynamics wasn’t satisfied with its already critically-acclaimed project. The developers doubled back and addressed every detail, making huge technical overhauls to take advantage of PS4’s hardware. The result? A visually stunning adventure, all displayed in native 1080p and running at a silky smooth framerate.

For a complete list of the new releases, read on, and enjoy the Drop!

You da man, Ryan. As a fellow Buffalonian (who now lives in L.A.) and gamer, I’m so happy that you ended up here after IGN was dumb enough to give you the drop. Stay frosty, buddy!

I hope they sweeten the deal on TR:DE for those who purchased it on PS3. The game was beyond amazing but there’s NO WAY I’m spending $120 on the same game

My Vita runs Hot……. No seriously, I have way to much of a back log of Vita games. Lone Survivor and Sly Cooper are taking up much of my time lately. Hey Ryan, please get Puppeteer on PS4. That game is so awesome….as always, Beyond, ………..no wait……. As always, Keep on Gaming…….

Cyber Sled!? That’s a blast from the past. That game was awesome and the PSX version, while lighter on features than the arcade version, was still great.

That Firemen game looks cool too. And don’t forget, Tomba 2 hits (as an import) in February.

Definitely picking up Battle of Z on Tuesday.

I’m going to grab Tomb Raider as well, but I’m going to wait for a price break. I’ve already beaten the PS3 version, so not really in a rush.

January 26th, 11:44 am

Hey Ryan, any news on February PS Plus offerings? Usually we get them around now.

This week is an off week for me, I’m abstaining from purchases. I have OlliOlli, though, and Dustforce is next week! :)

Eventually I’ll get that definitive edition of Tomb Raider, but not just yet. Too much else to play, I’m drowning in great games.

Is there any specific reason why prices cant be announced on the drop? These games are releasing in two days, i won’t believe that the price isnt finalized by now.

So no demo for Tomb Raider (ps4)?

Why are there so few demos for PS4 games, don’t you want our money?

alphagoku1 said:

January 26th, 12:41 pm

why aren’t you answering my questions as all, am I not good enough for one? are you purposefully ignoring my genuine request for information?

Lestatdelioncort said:

Valkyrie Profile (ps1) and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PS2) hope you can bring them as psn store classics one day. Please ^.^

Stranger_Eddie said:

Ryan , do you have information about the Killzone Mercenary updates (new mods, bots…)?

Firecrest said:

January 26th, 12:53 pm

Tomb Raider is 60FPS ONLY on PS4. Meanwhile, that OTHER console’s version not only runs slower, but required the aide of two developers to wedge the port onto it. Ouch.

NX_Nytrux said:

@35 +1: Valkyrie Profile (ps1) and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PS2)

Nothing to look forward to for me this week. I want fun games, not war, stress inducing slaughters like all FPS, this Tomb Raider etc. on my PS4. Regards.

Rezznak said:

Well at least we have OUTLAST in February to look forward to. Hope it’s EARLY Feb though because March is just wayyy to overcrowded with games.

Picking up DBZ on Vita.

Tomb Raider was a fantastic game; but Im not paying another $60 for it. So it looks like my PS4 will continue to sit dusty and unused since I beat AC4 a couple weeks ago

megalodonshark said:

January 26th, 1:32 pm

you guys there at sony keep saying that you are dropping classic games… really? i could have sworn that a classic is either something of a cult, or something that made the greatest hits workings. When are you people going to give us some real and true classic games, and i mean games we have been asking for not some run of the mill $5.00 games 6 weeks after they were released, and now you guys decide you want to try and make up for lost money on them? come on this system, the ps3 is how old now? and you have released so much junk from ps1 and ps2 try actually releasing some of the games that sold well for a change.

Mando44646 said:

January 26th, 1:33 pm

@DarkOne_PR DBZ is NOT coming out physically in the US – only digital

oc1ek said:

January 26th, 1:34 pm

DBZ Vita Digital Only? Why? UE gets boxed version as well. If you’re going digital only, make memory cards more affordable, miniSD in a fancy cartdrige for such money is a complete rip off, and no, that doesn’t stop pirates from doing bad stuff.

negimaknight said:

Getting Dragon ball z battle of Z for the vita Can’t wait. Plus try to get it on psn by midnight would be the best
