PlayStation Plus: Outlast and Metro: Last Light Free for Members

Kristine Steimer's Avatar Posted by Sr. Community Specialist

We’re kicking off February with a little something for everyone, regardless of what PlayStation console(s) you own. PS4 owners can give themselves a good scare by nabbing Outlast, a survival horror game where you’ll play as a freelance journalist investigating a psychiatric hospital. Not really a job I’d take, but hey, times are tough. There’s no fighting back in Outlast, you can climb or hide, and that’s it, so proceed with caution. If you’re a PS3 owner, you’ll be able to explore post-apocalyptic Russia in Metro: Last Light. A first-person shooter with the option to be stealthy, your decisions throughout the game will impact the story’s outcome. Finally, our PS Vita Play sale also continues this week with Dustforce, which you can grab for $7.99.

You can download Outlast and Metro: Last Light after PlayStation Store updates tomorrow.

Outlast (PS4)

Free for PS Plus members

Hell is an experiment you can’t survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, explore Mount Massive Asylum and try to survive long enough to discover its terrible secret… if you dare.
Metro: Last Light (PS3)

Free for PS Plus members

Metro Last Light
It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above. But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour…

Can’t wait to try out Metro Last Light. Heard it was good.

Sadly no good discounts though.

Yeah heard the same about Metro; but I missed playing it when it came out. Enjoy the game!

Regarding discounts, although there’s not a flood of discounts this week, there is one that matters a ton and that is a sweet sweet price on the amazing Dustforce

Months like this make me glad I’m subscribed until 2018. Only reason I’ve ever been tempted to cancel is because I don’t have the time to play all the games and my backlog grows every month.

That’s great! and it may not be about playing every game, but you’re pretty much set for at least a handful of games to jump in to at any given time.

My wallet has taken a beating this month from the Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed sales, not to mention the new DBZ game dropping. Can’t wait for Street Fighter X Tekken to be added later this month.

It’s good to see the Vita getting some love, right after January’s fantastic line-up for PS3 owners.

Keep up the excellent work!

The discounts these last weeks seem to be just about bringing to surface some games that otherwise you would never heard of. $1 discounts…. it’s a good deal if you can make it to the Playstation Plus Update front page.

Yay Metro is a great game….for sure is one of the best FPS’s out there…..unfortunately…I will buy Metro in disc….so this isn’t for me but I’ll add to my download list anyway.

I just became Plus yesterday so I could download Metro: Last Light (and other games too) I can’t wait to download it. I also became a Plus member for 1 year, so I’m pretty excited to see what games you give away from here until February 2015.

PSX/PS2 Classics sales at least?

Nice month for IGN, although, it may be more appreciated, since I did not buy Remember Me
( like I had almost done).

Did buy Street Fighter VS Tekken, and would much rather have simply played that one for free.

Already finished with Sly Cooper, which both myself and both of my kids enjoyed very much.
Now they are working their way through Epic Mickey 2 ( although a great game, has quite a few bugs )

Noticed Fifa during the flash sale, but picked Madden Football instead (thinking the sale included it, and it was the normal price)

About to go through the ratings of the other Assasins Creed and see if any are worth adding to the digital collection.

Really wish

1.God of War would hurry up as well as Borderlands 2 for Vita, as well as adding some Splinter Cell to the HD remakes.

2.Would like to see Ninja Gaiden go on sale for Vita PS Plus

3. Sony software would add an in console setting for better precision aiming.

Thanks for listening

Metro Last Light as game of the month? Sounds legit kinda was hoping Payday 2 will be out tomorrow but from reviews kinda understand why. Any way exciting to download Outlast and Metro. Question will the Final Fantasy and Assassin Creed sale go on for this week as well?

Oh, and by the way, although the lack of discounts, the lineup is excellent. Already own Metro, and it is a fantastic game. One of the best fps for sure. And I did not buy Remember Me because I knew that at some point it would be in the IGC. Wasn’t wrong on that one. Did buy Bioshock, though. Keep up the good work fellas.

Metro Last Light is a really great game, i was a big fan of Metro 2033 and i really love the atmosphere of it all. Im Glad i got it when it did, and got the platinum for it. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as i!

Make sure to keep those air filters fresh, flash lights charged and ammo conserved everyone!

…or the Watchers will be after you,

or worse… lol

@10 – I’m sure Last of Us will come to PS Plus at some point, but it is a game that is deserving of your money. I bought it when it was on sale last fall and I don’t regret it. I haven’t played the MP yet but I’ve heard it is really good so I would jump on it now before an avalanche of PS4 games come out and you never get to play TLOU.

The PS Plus team gave us a tough poll this week – having to choose between Outlast and Metro as our favorite content for the week. Thanks for all the great content!

I really think it’s insulting to PS Vita only having the new titles late in the month. either way great PS+ month, sadly both of these games are not interesting for me. I really want ModNation SFxT the most, also Remember Me, I want to give it a try.I have a feeling they’ll be the last games to get lol

Outlast is going to be a keeper. Will be playing this for sure with friends late in a dark room lol…..Thanks for the update. Nice PS3 Line up too. Are we going to see War Thunder updated for the US is line up soon? I saw it was available in the UK, I would like to see that in the near future too thanks.

Awesome week, I can’t wait to try both of these games. Outlast will give me a reason to dust off my PS4, I’ve been busy with the PS3 lately. No sales, but the stellar games make up for that.
Please keep bringing games like these to the IGC and I will be a member forever! Thanks team Plus :)

RenderMonk said:

February 3rd, 9:05 am

While I’m glad to see quality titles hitting the PS+ free IGC, I can’t help but notice that 5 of 12 (nearly half) the PS3 free games on offer are First Person Shooters. I understand the need for Sony as a platform to reel in the shooter crowd from it’s competitors, but please don’t forget the Sony following that is your base, and we generally don’t prefer Shooters.

After careful reflection of the free games on offer, most, if not all the biggest/best known games are shooters. I appreciate the smaller budget games as much as the next guy, and please, keep them coming, as they have been some of the most enjoyable free content to date! However, having said that, there is a real need for the IGC to offer equally enticing AAA game experiences of the RPG and Strategy genres. Even though these games generally are less plentiful to pick from, as compared to FPS, the effort still needs to be made. As much as we have seen from the Action genre, that would still be preferable to another FPS.

Thank you for taking these comments under consideration, keep up the fantastic work with all things PlayStation, most notably of late, the PS+ program!

    Morgan Haro said:

    February 3rd, 9:50 am

Appreciate the feedback here. Yeah the genres tend to center around more action titles. We definitely upped the RPG count through 2013, and I think you’ll see a pretty good variety of titles as we move on through 2014. Thanks!
