PS4 System Update 1.60: Official Headset Support; Gold Wireless Headset Out Soon

Hello PlayStation Nation! The next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.60) will be available for download beginning late tonight, bringing support for the PULSE and PULSE – Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to PS4. We know you’ve been patiently waiting for this update, which means PS4 owners will now be able to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience with 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat with our official PlayStation headsets. PlayStation headsets are created for PlayStation gamers, by gamers – and designed to truly provide the audio that game developers intended. It’s truly how games were meant to sound.

I’m also excited to introduce the newest member of our headset lineup – the Gold Wireless Headset, which launches early this month. This new headset offers 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom audio modes created by developers specifically for PlayStation games, a hidden noise cancelling microphone for voice chat while playing online, customizable faceplates, and other features –all for $99.99 (MSRP).

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

You can connect the Gold headset to your PS4, PS3 or computer using the wireless adaptor for eight hours of straight gameplay. The headset also is compatible with your PS Vita or other mobile device with the included 3.5mm audio cable. The portable, folding design and travel pouch make it perfect for playing games or listening to music at home or on the go.

The Gold Wireless Headset and the PULSE – Elite Edition are compatible with the free Headset Companion App, which hits PlayStation Store in February. The app allows you to download developer-created audio modes that are specifically tuned to enhance a game’s audio. Kicking off the custom sound modes will be Sucker Punch, who’s developing a mode for their highly anticipated PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS Second Son. In addition to these custom audio modes, the app also offers a variety of preset audio modes for games, music and movies, as well as a tool to create your own custom EQ mode.

  • will the gold headset better than pulse elite in any way? i.e will have a reason to buy a gold when I have a pulse elite already?

  • @97 never even considered that, but it’s so true.

I do it every year, what a shame, all do to Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, over priced services that can suck a big 1

  • @ 89 renejr818 – Its not bad…its just more proof that PS4 wasn’t necessary…and its actually a PS3.5 ha.

  • What about the headset before the elite version? What about the official PS3 Bluetooth headsets? What about DLNA? Come on man!

  • wooohoooo now im def getting music unlimited now that i can use my gta 5 elite headsettt

  • @101 you apparently havent even played the ps4 or know anything about specs, the ps4 has the ram of 16 ps3s, its WAYYY better than the ps4 in every way, it just needs more games

  • Why every new album from Sony’s flickr are now private? Wanted to see some high-res images :/

  • @104 I have a PS4 and while it’s more powerful, it has less features than my PS3 which is unfortunate.

  • way better than the ps3*

  • @ 9 mastorofpuppetz – “friend notifications when they log in are more important then this.”….you can’t be serious about this….I cannot believe PS4 doesn’t show you friend notifications.

  • @106 they are patching in most of the features, like Youtube, im pretty sure they are making it so you can upload straight to it which is why its not on there yet, the only thing i like about the ps3 over the ps4 is that it tells me when friends sign on and how long they have been offline

  • holy crap……. you all are like whiny little children. You have nothing else in your god damn house that can connect to your TV and play your movies? Jesus…….

  • I have a huge noggin, I want to know how flexible these are.

  • @ethan2010,

I think they get it, you can stop the spam now. It will not accomplish your objective and just make them want to ban you.

I’m not sure where they stated in the second update, but I’m sure they are working on it. It’s not likely a drivers feature like the headsets. It’s likely new code for network services. So MP3 play might be quicker, than DLNA, but I’m sure both will come as soon as they are ready. Hopefully before summer.

  • Sony brings a much demanded feature to the console and people are STILL complaining.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE

  • I hate to be negative but this update is really upsetting me. We’ve been waiting patiently for an update that adds dlna and mp3 support (features that should have been a given at launch) and we get one for freaking wireless headsets? Sony needs to be fixing the most important things before worrying about other stuff.

  • i just plug my hd cord into my laptop and watch movies on my tv, people just wan to upload all their illegal movies and music on there lol, which is understandable music wise but i dont let stuff like that eat up my harddrive

  • @114 and everyone else like that:

Sorry but headsets are more important to me then having a game console play my music or movies….. That’s what my laptop is for. Or my Desktop, or my TV itself, or my MP3 player, or my Vita…. or my PS3 (which I’ve NEVER used for that).

  • Just spoke to a rep via the Playstation Knowledge Center. The original Wireless Stereo headsets are not supported with this update, and there is no other information at this time.

  • Considering i just invested in about 70 blurays (because the PS4 is my first bluray player), i think i’ll grab a pair of these to enjoy them with. The price is definitely a selling point for me. And, of course, they’ll be great for gaming…

  • :O you just spent like $1400 on blurays at once? That’s average price of each blueray being $20….. many tend to be more. sheesh lol

  • Does this still model still has the feature from the Pulse Elite, that Tremble Bass, where the headset would pulsate with certain bass sounds?

  • @ 104 TWODEEEE – Wow its impressive that you’re saying things against something I didn’t even mentioned in my post….I don’t recall me saying that PS4 is worst than PS3…I have played PS4 already and yes I know everything about the specs.

Really?….you think more games will make it better?….I’m sorry but more games won’t erase the shame that PS4 actually is compared to PS3 which was a true next-gen PS.

  • Wow, people will always complain. Had this update been for mp3 support, this post would be filled with complaints on the lack support for the wireless headsets.

Patience folks, one feature at a time.

  • @108, YEWS THE PS4 DOES NOT NOTIFY YOU WHEN FRIENDS LOG IN LOL..

  • I hope not, not many like BassImpact. it made the headset rattle (and my head) and it couldnt’ differentiate between bass from game music and say… footsteps behind you or explosions. Even down really low It was annoying as hell I left it off all the time.

  • @116, the console sits under your tv, it plays movies, has netflix, not being able to stream when ps3 was able to do it for years is a joke….a gaming only system will not survive in 2014. Standards change so should yours.

  • and what about the non-Pulse Ps3 stereo headset? :(

  • Hell Yeah!!!!

  • Since I already paid 300$ for a much better Turtle Beach headset, how about making THOSE compatible with the PS4? It’s been more than 2 months already… almost three. What the hell is taking so long Sony?

  • @ 125 hey guess what genius, my laptop does all that, and oh hey guess what? It can connect to the TV via a HDMI cord. What a shock.

My standards are fine. If I wanted to use my PS3 for that I could. I wasnt’ stupid and threw it out when getting a newer console that’ll eventually have all these options as well.

  • Where can I buy said headset? Is there a link on Amazon someone could post or something?

  • @130…… it’s not out yet >.>

  • What about the sony wireless headset that came out before the pulse?
    Thanks

  • @DragonIrons Nah, most of them were between $4 and $9, and i started around September, so it’s not quite that bad. ;)

  • So is this headset compatible with the game modes developed for PULSE? I know that PULSE has a The Last of Us mode, as well as a GTA5 mode. Also, between the three headsets for PS3, wireless stereo, PULSE, and Gold, is Gold now the top tier? I want to know which to buy.

  • I like how little by little Sony is adding features and functionality to the PS4. One of the features I would like to have back is the ability to pause and prioritize my downloads. This seems like such a simple feature and all other Sony products have had this while downloading games or whatever. Sony please bring back a PAUSE feature while downloading.

  • Hi! This is great. But I echo a similar question that’s still unanswered: what about the FIRST official PlayStation wireless headset? The one pre-Pulse. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053OLY9O?cache=2cf6f7d2c34111ecaa9fed96a5e8e6de#ref=pd_aw_sbs_1&precache=1)

    Thank you !

  • @67

    The Vita does have Bluetooth.

  • Do these have Bass Impact?

  • How about the original “PS3 Wireless headset”? Will they work as well?

  • Does this update to use the Playstation headsets also apply to using the first Playstation 3 headset and not just the pulse headsets?

  • Which one has better sound quality this or the pulse elites? AND will I be able to use it on my phone for music

  • do none of you know how to read other posts before asking the same question over and over?? Someone said this higher up on page 3…

“Just spoke to a rep via the Playstation Knowledge Center. The original Wireless Stereo headsets are not supported with this update, and there is no other information at this time.”

  • Will there be support for my Playstation 7.1 wireless headset?
The USB dongle bluetooth headset that was out before the Pulse.

  • I’m guessing my old Official Wireless Stereo Headset will not be supported?

  • ……………… wow really? another post about that RIGHT after I quoted the answer? LOLOL

  • Wouldn’t it be easy for Sony to just state that instead of reading through pages and pages of comments since you want to be a wiseguy about people having questions.

  • Does the Gold’s wireless adaptor have an audio input like the Elite’s?

  • @DragonIrons lmfao
