PS4 System Update 1.60: Official Headset Support; Gold Wireless Headset Out Soon

Hello PlayStation Nation! The next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.60) will be available for download beginning late tonight, bringing support for the PULSE and PULSE – Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to PS4. We know you’ve been patiently waiting for this update, which means PS4 owners will now be able to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience with 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat with our official PlayStation headsets. PlayStation headsets are created for PlayStation gamers, by gamers – and designed to truly provide the audio that game developers intended. It’s truly how games were meant to sound.

I’m also excited to introduce the newest member of our headset lineup – the Gold Wireless Headset, which launches early this month. This new headset offers 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom audio modes created by developers specifically for PlayStation games, a hidden noise cancelling microphone for voice chat while playing online, customizable faceplates, and other features –all for $99.99 (MSRP).

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

You can connect the Gold headset to your PS4, PS3 or computer using the wireless adaptor for eight hours of straight gameplay. The headset also is compatible with your PS Vita or other mobile device with the included 3.5mm audio cable. The portable, folding design and travel pouch make it perfect for playing games or listening to music at home or on the go.

The Gold Wireless Headset and the PULSE – Elite Edition are compatible with the free Headset Companion App, which hits PlayStation Store in February. The app allows you to download developer-created audio modes that are specifically tuned to enhance a game’s audio. Kicking off the custom sound modes will be Sucker Punch, who’s developing a mode for their highly anticipated PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS Second Son. In addition to these custom audio modes, the app also offers a variety of preset audio modes for games, music and movies, as well as a tool to create your own custom EQ mode.

  • going to give me features for something i dont want to buy…..how about i just write a check to sony for DNLA and MP3 support….

  • @129 but i should not need to have a laptop to do such a basic task. My ps3 does more, why launch a new console and strip away standard features? Heck my phone does more then ps4……. Console stopped beign just for games with ps2 and playing movies. Sony dropped the ball here stop defending it.

  • + DragonIrons wouldnt it be easier if sony just gave the answer saying “will not work for for the original wireless headset” instead of reading over 150 comments

  • @149 so use your PS3 for that and stop whining. music and videos will be in the PS4 eventually as well….

  • Is this update just for some headset?

What about all the features that the PS4 was supposed to have/had been advertising for a long time before launch and still haven’t shown up?

What about the things like mp3/cd/streaming media etc… that we haven’t heard a word about in a while?

It would be nice if my PS4 did what it was supposed to instead of collecting dust.

  • Awesome news, look forward to playing COD Extinction with these… Add me if you wanna play

  • What about those of us who want to use a standard bluetooth for wireless chat (i.e Plantronics, jabra, etc.)? I’d really like to be able to use these items just as I did with the PS3.

  • Will the custom app work on Pulse and pulse elite ?

and will the Bluetooth H7 work ? mine is the 2.0.

    • The Gold Headset and Pulse Elite will be compatible with the Headset Companion App which will be launching this month. Stay tuned for more details on the App later this month.

  • What about our bluetooth earpieces? I am tired of this wired ps4 ear bud getting in my way. Give us the ability to connect bluetooth devices.

  • Glad to see more support, I would rather have Bluetooth supported headsets,
Also when are we getting DLNA, CD/MP3, AVI, DVIX, MP4, external HDD, Google+, YouTube, web flash, Pandora,
    Support?

I would also like to see a more refine way of “my library” without demos and a folder system for my stuff, blah ps4 may be a better gaming system but why remove the great media features ps3 had?

  • MP3 / JPG / MPEG playback still needed !!!

    DLNA support

YouTube app…. Spotify !! Watch ESPN apps please!

  • @37 Calling someone a moron? GROW UP!! No wonder this country is garbage. Ppl like you!!

  • Should I upgrade my Pulse Elite headset to the new one (my headset has some major cracks on it but i can still hear fine)? Or is the difference not big enough to invest extra money on it? Thanks for any comments!

  • 1. Bluetooth headsets work by any chance with this update?

    2. Any plans for Video chatting with friends in a future update?

  • when will the offical bluetooth headset be supported? These are all well and good but I rather not shell out 100 bucks for a new headset x.x

  • Good for now, but these features are a must and need priority over anything else:
    1] MP3 Support! PS1, PS2 and PS3 had it, screw Music Unlimited
2] DLNA Support, screw Video unlimited
    3] External HD support
4] Flash support in the browser would be nice
5] Ability to upload game captures to my computer or a USB, many don’t have Facebook.
    6] Youtube App!
It’s bad when my PS3 can do more things than my PS4.

  • If my pulse elites break like many others have, can I get a warranty replacement with a set of these?

  • Outlast is going to be awesome with a a pair of headsets!!

  • damn what abotu the 7.1 wireless headsets though I though the PS4 has bluetooth support sup with that!?

  • I have a question about this update:

I bought Turtlebeach PX4 Surround headset, it has bluetooth functionality. But PS4 doesn’t work with it. PS3 works. Will this patch make it so that I can use it with PS4 without the cord to the controller?

  • Wow, these look nice. And for only $99? I may pick one of these up in the future

  • Why not bluetooth headset ?????

  • oh yeah, we need the share improve, no compression pics, ability to save on USB, and direct upload to youtube, would be perfect the share.

  • I guess I can understand all the confusion here even though it’s really annoying seeing the same questions asked over and over again. Guess the bottom line is John Koller should update this post to answer these questions so that they hopefully will stop repeating

  • These headsets look pretty sexy Let’s hope they don’t have any major defects :\

  • does this head set have a volume nob for gaming and chat? if not then it a waste of money turtle beach is where its at

  • looks like the guy that called the playstation knowledge center got false information. the original wireless headsets will work after the patch. now can we stop asking the question?

  • Will this update add support for the PS3 Bluetooth 2.0 mic? https://blog.playstation.com/2010/11/08/new-bluetooth-headset-available-soon-for-ps3/

  • Turtle beach px4 works with ps4 wirelessly thought a wireless transmitter, but if u want to chat, I have to plug px4 to duelshock 4, also u cant change chat volume, will this be fixed with 1.6 update

  • Love the 8 hour game time on this new headset. If there is one problem with the Elite, it’s the mediocre battery life and the very long recharge times. Do you know how long the recharge time for this headset is?

  • If there is a gold headset, will there be a platinum one as well? ;)

  • I hope that you fix other features on the interface of the Ps4 , like turn off the Controller without logging out

  • No PS4 for until rock solid DLNA support is there.

  • Excuse me , and what about the other headsets in the market, for example i have the tutle beach tango and i want to use them!! but i cant use the mic, does this patch gonna make them compatible?

  • Does this mean the PS3 official Stereo headset won’t be compatible with the PS4? Would like some confirmation thanks.

  • Wow still no MP3, video, DLNA etc. support? Lame

  • And photos and custom wallpapers please.

  • Does Gold Wireless Headset still have BassImpact? How many hours difference between the Pulse Elite and Gold Wireless when it comes to battery life when playing games uninterrupted? And price difference between Pulse Elite and Gold? Thank you in advance.

  • Can you chat with the Gold Headsets Just wondering because I don’t see an input for a mic

  • NVM I watched the Video LOL those headsets Look Awesome… Just take MY MONEY SONY LOL

  • great news! will this update bring support to the wired/cable version of pulse headsets?

  • I have a couple of questions about the headset that didn’t come clear yet. I believe answering these questions will help other people as well. Just answer what you know. :)

    1) Will the headset be able to simulate the 5.1 or 7.1 surround tracks from Blu-ray/DVD discs played on the PS4/3, giving the user a surround sound experience? A question about non-disc-based files is out of question as that’s not available yet.

    2) Is the headset entirely Wi-Fi-based and will it work wirelessly with Linux computers, or does it require drivers that are only available for Windows/MAC? Does the microphone work on other devices than the PS4/3 as well?

    3) How long is the included headset-to-3.5-mm audio cable? What type is the USB slot, specifically? (Micro-B, for example) Is it the same as the one on the Dualshock 4? (so we can use longer cables for charging)

Thanks a lot, looking forward to the headset, one has been on my shopping list since I got the console itself. :)

  • Speaking of surround sound..does this update do anything to address the dts, dolby digital sound cutting out (using an optical cord) while playing certain games? I too would like to enjoy true surround sound and this is definitely an issue

  • What is the expected battery life for the Gold Wireless headset? Do the Gold and Pulse Elite have the same audio quality or does one sound a little better than the other? I am trying to decide between the Gold and the Pulse Elite but can not make up my mind.

  • The sponge from my old wireless headset lost the “leather”, it just peeled off :( I need a new headset.

  • Too many comments but I didn’t see if the plain old wireless bluetooth headset would work?

Also we need 3D blu ray already!

  • Does the new 2.0 headset support the sidetone feature like the original does?

  • Since the headset is “Gold” and a picture of a gold trophies… does it mean there will be a “Platinum” version?

  • Guys you should update your and include the Original Wireless Headset on the list….too many ppl asking the same thing.

    Thx 4 the update

  • will there be a better version of this headset in the near future? a platinum version perhaps!
