Drakengard 3 Launching on May 20th for PS3, Collector’s Edition Revealed

Let me start by thanking everyone for patiently waiting for news about Drakengard 3. We’ve been quiet for a long time, but today, we’re dropping some huge news — the silence is no more!

Let’s start big: we’ve got a release date. Drakengard 3 is coming out on May 20th, 2014, for $49.99 on PS3. Mark your calendars, and keep that pen out, because there are a couple more dates I’d like you to note.

If you pre-order Drakengard 3 before March 4th, or if you already have, you’ll be locked in for three bonus items — all at no extra charge. The first item is something I know those of you who appreciate an authentic gaming experience have asked for time and again, and your voices have been heard. You’ll be getting the Japanese Voice Over DLC pack.

As for the second and third items… they’re a secret! We’ll reveal the second item on March 4th, and the third item on April 9th. Basically, the earlier you pre-order, the more you get. If you wait past March 4th, you’ll only get two items. The Japanese VO DLC will have expired. If you wait past April 9th, you’ll only get one item.

Last but not least, retailing for $79.99 exclusively from the Square Enix Online Store, the Drakengard 3 Collector’s Edition was crafted with the fans who’ve loved Drakengard since the PS2 days. Of course, it’s also accessible to newcomers as well, with the original Japanese box art and that gorgeous, bloody flower on the case.

This version comes with some incredible stuff, including a complete prequel novella — a collection of short stories written from the perspectives of each character. It’s also got a selection of tracks by acclaimed composer Keiichi Okabe. We’ve mentioned he also composed Nier, haven’t we?

The Collector’s Edition also comes packed with more content and a few nods to series fans. It’s got a full DLC stage featuring Zero’s sister, One, as a playable character. And for the long-time fans, you can equip Zero in the Caim costume. Aesthetically, the costume is reminiscent of the original Drakengard, but functionally, it decreases stamina consumption when using a skill. Finally, the Giant Baby Hat is for your dragon, which needs no introduction to those of you who know this series.

One very important fact I should mention about this version is that only 5,000 of these are going to be produced. We’re giving you the number upfront so that you know that when we say limited quantity, we mean limited. And rest assured, pre-ordering the Collector’s Edition also gets you all three pre-order bonus items, no matter when you order it.

I hope we’ve made up for that prolonged silence with all this news. If you have any questions, be sure to ask us in the comments!

  • Will there be a way for those who want the digital copy to get those 3 dlcs as well?

  • How will this work at retail? Will a code be given out when pre-ordering?

  • Can I still get the Japanese VO DLC if I don’t preorder? Like, will it be available as a DLC when or sometime after the game releases?

    • The Japanese VO DLC is a unique pre-order only incentive as of right now. After March 4th, it will no longer be available. You get all 3 bonuses if you pre-order now for free so if you are planning on buying the game at one point, it would be a better deal for you to pre-order before March 4th.

  • Please don’t let the Collector’s edition be Square Enix store exclusive, please?

  • Would there be an HD Remaster or HD Collection of the first two games?

  • Is the physical standard edition going to be available at other retailers or is it going to be only available at the Square Enix Store?

    • There are no plans as of right now for the game to be available outside of the Square Enix Store. The 3 items Pre-Order Bonus Items are also a Square Enix Store Exclusive.

  • Played the first two in the series, and was really excited to see this announced and seeing trailers and gameplay footage from TGS.

Only complaint I got is the CE being exclusive to the online store, it means….. Digital River.

I`ll bite this time even if it means dealing with Digital River (assuming they are still the online store’s distributors.) and assuming that the issues I was hearing about the site from several others have been resolved. Now if you’ll excuse me I need go wash my mouth after saying Digital River and “deal” in the same sentence.

Still hyped for the game though!

    • We have resolved the issues regarding check out on our Square Enix store. We are also offering day one shipping where the game arrives on the day of launch for most people pending any un-foreseen mail man related delays :)

  • I would gladly buy these new Square Enix CEs if they’d stop using Digital River. Haven’t there been enough horror stories about DR yet?

  • The VO DLC will be available in Europe? There is any way to import the collector edition to Europe?

  • Hmm, so these won’t be available if you were to want to purchase the game digitally then…. correct? That seems a tad silly doesn’t it…? I mean, I just want the japanese vo because this trailer kinda has me worried for the english vo but…. still, couldn’t you guys, in theory, just make the digital preorder give these as well?

  • Any chance you could convince your European colleagues to throw us a bone?

  • “The Japanese VO DLC is a unique pre-order only incentive as of right now. After March 4th, it will no longer be available”

Seriously, this is ridiculous. I won’t support this.

    • Apologies – i mean no longer available as a FREE Pre-Order. Currently there has no set date on when it will be available for sale.

  • Can we get Drakengard 1&2 as PS2 Classics for PSN?

  • Men… Square Enix is amazing in make things complicated.

  • “Apologies – i mean no longer available as a FREE Pre-Order. Currently there has no set date on when it will be available for sale.”

Thanks for clarifying that! So it will be available for sale as a DLC just not free anymore? And there’s no date yet on when?

  • So I went and put a pre order in for the Collectors Edition but the site glitched out while processing my order and froze up. The money is out of my account but I haven’t gotten any kind of confirmation that the actual order itself went through. What would be the best way to make sure my pre order is all set?

    • Just to be 100% certain – I would just call and confirm. They should be able to pull your order up with your billing information and confirm your order!

  • You can only get this game from the Square Enix store? That’s a bad idea IMO. That means most people won’t even know about the game when it releases.

On top of that I really wanna get this game but I’ve heard stories of Digital River and I don’t know if I wanna give my money to them without guaranteeing my purchase.

You SHOULD let GameStop sell your game. That store is pretty much the only store that sells “unknown” JRPGs. I would’ve gladly preordered there. We’ll have to see I guess.

  • @Sakura Minamida; Thanks for the insight regarding the store being fixed. I’ll go ahead and pre-order this later when I get home. If everything goes well with this I might be more inclined to use the store more often.

Anyway really glad to see this arriving in NA.

    • Thank you so much for your support @TheOathsworn! I am happy that the game is coming to the States too :D

  • This game is coming out much sooner than I thought!; but, the Square Enix store is such a pain in the ass to order from.

  • Does europe get any of this DLC?

  • ARE SQUARE-ENIX SERIOUSLY!!!?

FIRST LIGHTNING RETURNS COLLECTOR’S EDITION ONLY NA….

    THEN FFX/X-2 HD COLLECTOR’S EDITION ONLY NA….

AND NOW DRAKENGARD 3 COLLECTOR’S EDITION ONLY NA…. AND EU ONLY GET A DIGITAL VERSION…

WTF IS THE THINKING BEHIND THIS BS???

SCREW YOUR FANS AROUND THE WORLD… WHY?

SQUARE-ENIX REALLY PISSING ME OFF NOW… REALLY DISAPPOINTED :(

  • I’m having troubles with the Digital River store.

    1. I preordered the standard edition last year and their findmyorder page doesn’t find my order. Do I message them using https://www.findmyorder.com/DRHM/store#contactForm to try and cancel that order so I can preorder the collectors?

    2. I preordered the collectors edition of Lightning Returns along with another game. Now I got an email saying that the other game is out of stock. Is my order going to be held until that other game comes back in stock? It’s pretty old so maybe it won’t be coming back in stock… I also don’t understand why they didn’t reserve stock for a pending order like other retailers would. I contacted Square enix support and they haven’t replied. Should I cancel my order and reorder and would it still get release date delivery at this point?

    3. On a different order at digital river last year, they just randomly cancelled my order and said it was a “system mistake” and told me to order again. If that happens again after the tier dates for Drakengard 3, would I be screwed out of the promotions?

    Thanks!

I actually managed to track down my order details by going through this link

    https://store.na.square-enix.com/DRHM/store?Action=DisplayCustomerServiceOrderSearchPage&SiteID=sqenixus&Locale=en_US

But you may want to get some people to look at the SE shop because I see people all over forums like NeoGAF having issues with getting there order to go through at all. Noone is getting order confirmation because the site keeps coming up blank after submitting your order.

  • I do agree with Gabba, only with less rage.
why is it that no physical edition is available for the UK and EU
Are there plans to allow the DLC for the UK?
Is the soundtrack and bonuses gonna be available digitally at least? or from the SE UK store like the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster thing is on Blu Ray?
Come on guys thats 3 games running that the UK/EU completely miss out on the extras for.. its not like we arent willing to purchase from you so, reasons please? Thanks

    • I just wanted to at least confirm that I have read through all the concern on this thread regarding the territories outside of North America.

Unfortunately I represent the North American territories therefore I am only able to speak for the North American announcement at this time.

We will most certainly keep you posted if we hear any news regarding the EU territories and appreciate all the feedback and comments!

  • @GABBA11 Those are exactly my sentiments as well… The blatant preferential treatment is disgusting.

  • I live in a country your shop doesn’t ship to.

I want the japanese VO DLC – the only way I would play the game.

This seriously sucks, you know? There isn’t a way for people outside that region to get the japanese dubs even if you are willing to pay.

  • I just pre-ordered the CE Edition. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the Square-Enix store exclusivity, that hasn’t stopped me from getting this or the Lightining Returns CE and the Final Fantasy X/X-2 CE.

I loved the PS2 games and Nier on the PS3. Hopefully some way, some how Square-Enix can find a way to get those PS2 games available again so people can start from the beginning.

  • Can we get some sort of Membership program for getting free shipping and release date delivery. Your website is a serious detractor from going to Amazon.com and just ordering it there. I honestly do not understand the Publishers needs to open their own store front to sell physical copies of their games if they aren’t at least willing to find some way to compete.

  • Again with my NA Account – could you at least leave the japanese VO as paid DLC a week or so open after release for people living in countries your shop doesn’t ship to?

  • I’m holding out for a prayer that my tax return arrives soon~ I NEED to pre-order that Collector’s Edition! But I just don’t have the money for it right now. ._.

  • If I preorder Drakengard 3 with another game and the other game goes out of stock come release time, will the order for Drakengard 3 be delayed until the other game comes back in stock?

    • The orders will ship as they become available. So if in this case if Drakengard 3 releases and the other item you order is out of stock, Drakengard 3 will ship first and the other item will ship when it becomes available.

      Hope that clarifies everything!

    • Apologies! I have been updated that the items will be held until all items are ready so if you want each item to arrive upon release, please order them separately.

  • @22
Guess you weren’t kidding about raging.

    @ Sakura Minamida
Any chance of this becoming available at normal stores like Amazon or Gamestop, after hearing about past issues from the company you use to ship stuff out (mostly the Ni No Kuni launch, and a few other couple dozen complaints about them) Id prefer ordering it from someplace more reliable

    • As of right now, the title is exclusive to the Square Enix Store. We will certainly keep you posted if there are any changes. All Square Enix Store issues in the past regarding check out has been resolved!

  • And there you go killing it for me.

I’ve been burned by Digital River too many times to ever deal with them again. Making both retail versions exclusive to your store was a pretty silly move.

I never say stuff like this, but in this case I’m going to make an exception:

I’ll buy it digitally when it goes on sale.

  • lol I didn’t even finish Drakenguard ONE on the PS2….. it got boring or something I dont’ remember. Never even knew there was a 2nd one and now there’s a 3? meh

  • I just wanted to at least confirm that I have read through all the concern on this thread regarding the territories outside of North America.

Unfortunately I represent the North American territories therefore I am only able for speak to the North American announcement at this time.

  • @32 Thank you, was trying to remember there name.
Ive read up on plenty of issues on Digital River, and considering their name almost seems to be synonymous with late, broken deliveries, and horrible customer service. Im kinda worried about my FFXHD order (it and Drakengard 3 are the only things making me put up with them for the time being)
Granted id much prefer to order from Amazon or Gamestop and atleast know for sure it will arrive in one piece

  • Woohoo! I’m so glad this has Japanese VO. I’m pre-ordering CE just because of Japanese VO to show my support. FF series should do this too.

  • Thanks! That’s what happened to my Lightning Returns order and I haven’t been able to get a response from their support. It seemed like they were going to hold my order indefinitely.

I preordered the standard edition of Drakengard 3 last year and Digital River’s findmyorder page doesn’t find my order. How do I cancel that order so I can preorder the collectors?

  • One of my friends purchased JPN version of this game on release date. From what I know, JPN release has lots of issues; dated graphics, save file corruption bugs, significant low frame rates when summon dragon and fighting multiple enemies.

Did SE fix these problems for NA release? I don’t see much gameplay footage in that trailer, is SE trying to hide something with 95% cutscenes in a trailer?

  • this game seems pretty interesting but i think that the move of making japanese voices DLC and just for pre-order purposes only was/is a poor decision from you guys.since it’ll tend to alienate and disappoint your fans.i personally, dont care about japanese voices since english is my second language anyways. but i understand the people who’d prefer to play this in nihongo.i know that you guys top priority is to make money but there’s a way to do it without making your fans sad or angry.

i’ll understand if you wanna sell costumes and other silly things like that but taking out original content from its source just to sell it at pre-order or maybe dlc later reeks of blackmail.just saying!

  • @ Sakura, it’s a bit off topic, but please give a answer.
I’ve been trying to pre-order FFXHD for Vita physical and my local eb games. But for some reason they don’t have it in the listings, they said apparently SE didn’t give the go ahead on pre-ordering the vita version in canada. Can you guys please get this fixed? I won’t be able to get day one if I don’t pay it off early

  • The games looks great! I wont be picking up the CE since i just recently preordered the LRFXIII and FXHD CE, but i’ll get the digital version when it release.

  • @ #37 – sockerps

I am having the exact same problem. I went to look up my order to cancel the normal PS3 version of Drankengard 3 so I could pre-order the CE version and it says it can not locate the order. I know the order is still active though since I got my Lightning Returns CE pre-order DLC code from them this week and that game was included in the same order. I shot them an email to cancel my Drankengard 3 PS3 order but to keep my Lighting Returns CE order. Hopefully this doesn’t cause too much confusion with them since this is Digital River… sounds like all the ordering bugs have not been worked out in regards to looking up orders and trying to cancel.

  • Is square-enix aware that Drakengard sucked? Seriously, the games were awful. Not fun in the slightest. I’d honestly recommend that everyone pass up on pre-ordering and waiting for reviews. NieR was better, but just barely. Honestly, the fact that they’re resurrecting Drakengard just seems to smack of Square-enix being desperate for something to make them money.

  • um….. I thought people were being dumb as usual when some said BOTH versions were at your store only (could’ve sworn you said only the CE was … your store only). But I just looked for it on Amazon. There’s no Drakenguard 3 to preorder on there at all, but there is one Jpn import so I guess it’s out over there already. Are you all morons?

No one’s going to buy the game if you keep it only at your store cause no one’s going to even SEE IT or KNOW about it. You know how I window shop for new games? I go on Gamestop and Amazon and look at the lists. So do many others…. Hell the only reason I knew about Drakenguard 1 was I walked into a Gamestop and saw it. Never even knew there was a 2nd one. I NEVER WOULD”VE KNOWN about 3 if I had never signed up for a twitter account just to /follow Playstation via my Trillian Instant Messenger program. You think everyone is following playstation on twitter? lol

You’re shooting yourselves in the foot selling this only on your site, basically keeping it a secret.

  • “Unable to process order”, that’s all I ever get whenever I try to purchase something from the SE Store. I really really hate that most recent releases are exclusive to the SE store.

  • @43 lol at least I’m not the only one. Drakenguard 1 sucked to bad it’s sat on my shelf unfinished for a decade or more. Boring as hell if I remember right. I never even knew there was a 2nd……. and now a third and already had a bad “review” on it. Look at MRZ_2010 (#38).

  • sucked so bad* ….. wish you could edit the stupid posts on here lol

  • lol there haven’t been enough Digital River horror stories to perhaps suggest to SE that these store-only exclusives are a bad idea? From a publishing standpoint must be saving them coin along the way, but is that really worth alienating and irritating both customers who would like to purchase the game and can’t – and some who DO make a purchase and get burned out of a copy by the messy process of trying to complete a single order and get blocked for ‘suspicious activity’ .

Also digital only for EU is really lousy – something like 15gigs required to install blah come on man. Very disappointed with just about every single facet of this…Feel like laughing and crying at the same time its such a farce!
