Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f Debuts on PS Vita this March

Hello again, PlayStation aficionados, Miku fans, and gentlemen and ladies with fine taste in music games. Aaron from SEGA here, and we’re excited to confirm with you all that Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f will be releasing for your PS Vita this March!

The game will be available on PlayStation Store, and will also feature a completely separate set of Trophies from the PS3 version (go for that double Platinum)! We’re also happy to confirm today that we will be bringing over the DLC that many have asked us about: the Snow Miku 2013 DLC, the Extra Character Modules Pack, and the Extra Songs pack will all be available at launch in March. We’ll be announcing details on pricing for these, as well as the full game, here on the Playstation Blog soon.

It’s amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come over the last year. For that, we have nothing but thanks for each and every one of you who picked up the game (or plans to) and is part of that story. From a Facebook post asking for your likes and shares, to a PS3 version announcement and successful launch, and now, for all the PS Vita owners, a portable version of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f in just a month. A lot can happen in a year!

Questions? Comments? As always, we’ll be around responding to your notes below. Drop a line and let us know what you think!

P.S. Do you live in or near Birmingham, Alabama, or Kansas City, Missouri? Stay tuned for our next blog post if so!

  • I hope the sequel is confirmed for North America :)

    • We’re fully focused on releasing the first game for PS VITA owners right now, so no news on that front. That said, thanks so much for your support of the series – we really appreciate it!

  • MIKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

Is there any hope for Project Diva F 2nd for North American release? Please please pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease????????? ^_^

    • Hellooooooooooooo FearMonkey! (I wanted to respond in kind, but decided to avoid the caps lock.)

No news on Project DIVA F 2nd from my side. Right now, as you’ll probably hear me repeat a few times in the comments, we’re all eyes forward on getting Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f out for all you PS VITA owners! :)

  • YES THANK YOU!!!! I have been wait for this on my vita!!

  • Oh! New set of trophies? So its different from the Japanese version which has the same trophies?
I wonder how many Project DIVA F trophy sets I will be having if I add this one. :D

    • That’s correct! You’ll be able to double platinum if you own both the PS3 and PS VITA versions of the game in English. :)

  • I hope it’s first week of March because THE WAIT IS KILLING ME ALREADY

Here’s to hoping f 2nd makes its way to us too. :D

    • Always great to see this kind of support from our fans, so thank you, Alpha. :)

Don’t worry – it’ll be here before you know it! We’ll announce the final date soon.

  • I’m so glad you guys listened to the fans on this one. Will definitely pick this up at launch. Now, how about announcing a Yakuza Ishin western release? I’ve pretty much accepted that Yakuza 5 will never come, but the new PS4 hardware will definitely have people interested in Ishin.

    • Likewise, we’re really excited to be able to release it for you guys. I don’t have any news on Yakuza, but I was lucky enough to get to work on some of the previous titles, so I know where that desire to see more comes from. It’s a really fantastic series! (P.S. – Dear readers, if you like Japanese culture, action combat, and a dose of RPG mixed in, do yourself a favor and go check out Yakuza 3 or 4 for your PS3. Tom will probably back me up on this!)

  • Absolutely can’t wait, I’ll be jumping on it as soon as possible!

I hope you guys can eventually work towards releasing them more in line with the Japanese versions in the future, because I’ll have PDf2nd showing up on my doorstep sometime in March as well. I dream of the day we hit parity on those.

    • Thanks so much for the support, liammill! :) We’ll have more news on the final date for Project DIVA f soon.

  • Will buy it again and not spend my money on the f 2nd import in hope this will get localized too.

  • So wait, it’s a different trophy set, but is it different than the Japanese Vita version that I already imported? Cuz, from what I heard, the PS3 version shared trophies between the JP and NA versions.

Also, asking for PDF2nd as well. C’mon Sega. (While you’re at it, bring over Valkyria Chronicles 3 :)

    • It’s almost exactly the same as the Japanese VITA version – we did our best to ensure this was the case. We’ll also be offering the DLC Packs (Extra Songs, Snow Miku 2013, Extra Character Modules) for sale at-launch, so that all the content is up there on Day 1.

No news from me on F 2nd or Valkyria Chronicles, but Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 is one of my personal favorite games of all time, right up there with Skies of Arcadia.

  • Can’t wait to play this on my Vita! Can you share the download size. Gotta make sure I have enough room on my memory card.

    • Glad to hear it! I’ll go find out the download size for you guys and will share that in a future blog here, so you can get ready.

  • Thank you SEGA! Hoping youd localize more of your games soon! :)

  • @6 – There’s a rumor going around that Atlus will be localizing Yakuza 5. I would totally link you but then my comment would have to await moderation and then you wouldn’t be able to see what I had to say for a week and then at that point you would forget all about this blog post and you would remain in the dark. So google it I guess. :(

    • As a general rule, I wouldn’t put too much faith in internet rumors. (That said, I don’t have any info or news on Yakuza myself, so I can’t really comment. Sorry!)

  • Never tried any rhythm game but this looks cool!! Definitely will start on the genre with this one on my Vita.

    • I think you’ll like it! The gameplay is really addicting – it had me hooked after just two songs. Suddenly, five hours had passed and it was 10 PM and I was still in the office. Whoops…

  • Yay! ….w-what’s the file size?

    • 500 GB. You won’t believe the graphical quality.

(Just kidding – it’ll be much smaller. We’ll post more news on the actual file size in a future blog here!)

  • Does this version come with all of the DLC / songs included?

Can’t wait to get this at release and import 2nd :)

    • The full game will launch for PS VITA at a cheaper price point than its PS3 counterpart, and all of the DLC available for PS3, as well as the Extra Songs Pack for PS VITA, will be available to purchase on Day 1! More details on the specific prices soon.

  • So, um, SEGA, how about Phantasy Star Online 2? Please?

    • No news on PSO2 from my side, sorry!

That said, if you’re a big Phantasy Star fan, you recognize my blog picture, right? :)

  • Can’t wait! but is there a confirmed price yet??

    • Always good to hear. We’ll be revealing the price for the full game and the DLC soon. I think fans will be pleased with the pricing strategy we’re taking on this one – that’s all I will say for now. :)

  • I missed this one on PS3 because of… reasons, I guess. But I love music/rythm games on the Vita, so this one is right on the top of my Vita wishlist. =D

    • Reasons, huh? Well, since you like music/rhythm games, you’ve come to the right place! Good to hear you’re excited for it! :)

  • Ohhh patience is a virtue :) almost caved and bought the ps3 version when i played the demo, but this game is perfect for my vita! Especially since I commute to my university 4-5 days out of the week. Can’t wait to download this in March! Thanks Sega :)

  • Will be double dipping and buy the Vita version as well. I hope you guys consider bring over Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd over as well. As a long time importer of this series some of my personal favorite tracks of all time have been included in that game. Much love for you folks for giving the series a chance here and you can count my support now and in the future.

    • Two double dippers in the comments already – major kudos and thanks to you for your dedication, bluekamikaze.

Every copy sold really does make a difference for the series here in the West.

  • Missed the PS3 version because of money problems but this one should be on lock since I recently got a job :D.
Also time to see if Aaron can respond to each comment =P

  • Have to give a -HUGE- thank you for taking the time to personally reply to so many people on your blog posts. IT really shows a love for the community and product that is sadly missing most places these days :)

    • It’s my pleasure. Seeing these comments and getting to write back to you guys is one of the best parts of posting here on the Playstation Blog, in my opinion. :)

Long ago, before I started working in the industry, I was a huge SEGA fan and I know it really meant a lot to me any time somebody official would respond to or read my comment. That’s one reason I try to do my best to offer that to everyone who responds here.

  • Picking this up on day one. So happy this is finally coming to the west. Can’t wait to import f 2nd too.

    • Awesome, thank you for the support, Valkyrie! I’ve said it many times already, but I’ll say it again: We really appreciate it.

  • For those asking about its sequel already: they have to see how this game does first. With good sales bring more titles. Support this title. This will be my first full Miku game so I’m pretty excited they’re bringing it over. Need more SEGA support! We start with this one!

  • Sega take my money. I tried so long to hold of on buying the ps3 version because I has hoping for the vita version. If you guys pack in all the DLC into a nice bundle with the game, I’ll literally send you my wallet with the money in it.

    • We’re excited to be able to bring you the PS VITA version – no need to literally mail us your wallet, though. :) Picking up the game will do all the talking!

  • So next month we have BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma, Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster (which I’ll be buying on Vita, by the way), and now Hatsune Miku? (Not to mention potential Plus sales)

    S…Stop torturing my wallet!!

But yeah, next month is gonna be a big one as far as Japanese games are concerned! That is, if I can afford everything….

…Okay, Miku. Here, you can have my dollars…all 40 of them!

  • I’m not a fan of this titles or Hatsune Miku. But I’m glad that others will get the chance to play this. Hopefully more Vita titles will be localized

    • My new mission in life is to convert you into a fan before the week is up.

Here’s what I want you to do:

1.) Boot up your PS3 and go download the Free Demo.
2.) Play any song 3 times and try to get at least a “Standard” rank.
      3.) ????
      4.) You’re now addicted.

On the flip side, just in case that doesn’t work, I’d also like to note that it’s very awesome of you to support titles like this with your comments, even if they’re not always your thing. :)

  • Thank you guys for Hatsune Miku for the Vita.

I have my Platinum for the PS3 version and I will definitly have my Platinum in the Vita version too XD.

Hope you guys keep localizing this games and hopefully will have Miku 2nd too

  • Would care if it was retail. And would care if you didn’t pick the worst time of the year to release it.

    • Comments noted, and appreciated! I think “worst time of the year” may be a bit subjective, though! (A lot of people might argue that the fall is generally one of the busiest times – but everyone has their own list of titles they’re excited for, and that’s all good.)

  • I was disappointed that it was digital only so I imported it but i will pick up the ps3 version and f 2nd next month for vita.

  • YES! Now I can Miku on the big screen and Miku on the go if that makes any sense o.0.

and right after the new headset was announce, most excellent and thank you.

  • There’s pricing on content already on PS3 version? :|

    • For some of the DLC, but not all. (Like the Extra Songs Pack.) The standard version of the PS VITA game will also be priced cheaper than the standard version of the PS3 equivalent.

  • Thanks for releasing PDF on the Vita! I already imported it when it first came out in Japan. Got a free Miku skin for my Vita as a gift for ordering it. I will definitely pick up the English version when it arrives in March.

I will continue to support this series by buying them as they are released, so others can enjoy future Project Diva titles here in the West. ^_^

    PS. Sega rocks!

    • Dante, thank you for the comment! It’s always nice to read about people who import and yet -still- buy a western copy to support our efforts to bring the series over here.

Fans like you are amazing, and we’re really excited to offer Project DIVA F/f here in the west for everyone to enjoy.

  • Definitely good to hear I already own this game on the PS3 but I wouldn’t mind double dipping for the Vita version.

P.S. Are you planning on localizing F 2nd or the Mirai games to the west?

    • Thank you, Neo! No news on F 2nd or Mirai from my side- we’re focused on bringing out Project DIVA f for the PS VITA right now. Appreciate your comment and the support!

  • Double-dipping for more miku on the west, and hoping for PDF2nd localization too! :D

  • Alarion – thank you for the support! :)

    • I just want you all to know that it feels really tacky to comment on my own post, but commenter PZDugna challenged me to do so, and thus, I am compelled to hit that 100% response ratio. :)

Thanks very much for all the responses thus far, everyone!

  • Jeez took you long enough, two years too long. Fans have been sceaming at you for two years to get this game over to the west on vita. Did you listen? Nope, you ignored us as much as you could. How long are we gonna wait for the sequal that comes out the same month you’re finally releasing the first one here? Another two years? Another two years of everyone yelling at you on every blog post that they want this game localized? Its time to actually listen to the fans and give them what they want and not give them the run-around

    • All good things take time. What a lot of people don’t see is all the work (and there’s a huge amount of it) that goes into getting a game like Project DIVA prepared and approved for release in the West.

The other challenge is that we as fans (and I say this as a dedicated gamer, and longtime SEGA fan) want everything – and then some. We want every single game that looks fun localized and on our doorstep the day it comes out in Japan – often sooner. We want this because we’re so excited and passionate about the titles, and when you boil it all down, that dedication is a good thing, not bad. But sometimes, it means our expectations can be set pretty high.

We pushed very hard to bring both the PS3 and PS VITA versions of the game over, and we’re really happy that we were able to bring out the PS3 version to the West just 6 months after its Japanese release. That’s an amazingly fast turnaround time, and our teams worked very hard to deliver it.

  • So why is SEGA being lazy with the subtitles? It can’t be THAT difficult to make something better than what a fan translator can do no problem.

    • Ah, the issue isn’t actually simply translating the lyrics – that part would be no problem. It’s not that we’re being lazy, but that there are approvals and complex processes outside of the normal game development involving the music that make it very difficult to add them in. Your comment is great feedback though – thank you!

  • While I’ve never played a game like this, I’m happy to see any kind of real game getting released on the Vita in NA. Japan has a ton of great Vita games and we rarely see any of them.

Thank you for bringing this over, it’s not my genre, but I’ll probably pick up a copy just to support more Vita games coming this way.

  • Whats the size of the game, also will there be some kind of promo for those that purchased the PS3 version (like take $10 off the vita versions price for example)

So any news about Yakuza HD Collection, 5, Isshin, and PSO2 to share?

    • We’ll be posting up info on the size of the game, pricing, and all the rest soon!

No news from me on any of the other franchises you mentioned, but I share your passion on a personal level for a lot of those games. (I played the first PSO for a good 5-6 years.)

  • Miku! Hmmm miku for ps4? Plus we need miku avatars over here japan got a tons of them.

    • No news on Miku for PS4, sorry! You’re not the first person to ask for Miku avatars, though, which is nice to see. :)

  • If you’re still about…

Why are you releasing the extra songs costumes as paid DLC and not including them, as you did with the PS3 version? Kind of feels like you’re shafting Vita owners, almost punishing them for not having a PS3.

    • Great question.

In Japan, they released the PS VITA version first, and then the PS3 version later. The PS3 version had more songs included, and so to offer these same songs to PS VITA owners, they released these as an “Extra Song Pack” piece of DLC. It was a relatively premium-priced item. ($30 or so, I believe.)

On our side, we released the versions in reverse order, which probably makes it a little confusing – why not just find a way to bundle in all the DLC songs into the main game, right? The reality is that would add a lot of dev work and push out the game release, so we decided to find an option that would satisfy our fans while still releasing the game as soon as possible.

This will be covered in even greater detail when we discuss pricing, but what I can tell you now is that even though these songs will be DLC, we’ve aimed to make sure that the price points are balanced between the platforms. You won’t be paying any more than a PS3 user would to get the full game and all of this DLC along with it. :)

  • I never played anything like this but, I think I may have to give this a try this seems like a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!

  • + Aaron Webber
    Lol Challenge Accepted!!

  • The only games I’ve got a platinum from is Diva F English and Jp versions. Why not a third :) Although Miku is going to leave me broke in March with this and F 2nd xD

    • March is going to be a good month for Miku. :) Thanks for supporting the series so much, in both Japan and the West, Cero!

  • Damn, Love the Yakuza series, but the wait for 5 and HD collection has been unbearable, so I went ahead Imported them (still waiting for them to arrive almost 12 days late as of today) and have ordered Isshin for PS3 and 4.
As for PSO while I only had the Gamecube version the Splitscreen kept me, my cousin, and my brother (who used a Action Replay and cheated the lazy bastard) and Good lord the hours we put into it, sadly after about 3 years, and a week long PSO Binder, we finally turned off the console then about 5 minutes later we heard this loud snap, looked around the room for what might have caused it, till one of us (I think it was my cousin) popped open the gamecube and the disc was split in half, by the time we finally found another copy we found out our save data for PSO was corrupt data, 3 and a half years all gone, which sadly by that point with school and what not we couldn’t find the time to play it anymore…….. Any chance of PSO1 getting a HD release, with online. it would atleast hold us over till PSO2 hits the U.S in 2254

    • Oh, man… the memories. I had my characters corrupted on PSO1 a good 4 times on Gamecube, each time at around level 120 or so. I know that feel. My friends and I still play Challenge Mode each Christmas when I go back to the midwest to visit family. Over ten years later, it’s still fun.

You’re probably already aware of this, but you know there’s a fully themed PSO2 music video in Project DIVA, right? If you trigger the Chance Time, she even gets a red box rare item. Here’s the video:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOuO4ri2DL8

  • Already imported the Japanese version so that I could have a physical copy, but I’m really thankful you guys are localizing this!

  • Oh I know, and I think its my most played song, simply because of that damn red box lol, still get a thrill from seeing a red box, god the arguments me and my cousin got into about them lol. And I want to say my character was about level 178 when it happened

    • Nice, it was my first song that I tried on “Extreme” because I played it so much. :)

Something about those red boxes is engrained in our memory, I think. You’re having a great time, chilling with friends and killing Boomas, when suddenly, one drops. Instantly the adrenaline kicks in and every one of you is running and shoving as fast as you can to be the first one to pick it up. On one hand, that was kind of fun, but I’m really glad the games have gone towards unique loot for each person, now.

  • Are we also getting the PoPiPo Toro and Kuro version DLC? Also how about the Convenience Store costume DLC?

    • Good question! Right now the only DLC we’ve revealed are the Snow Miku 2013, Extra Character Modules Pack, and the Extra Song Pack. More details and news on this front soon.
