New PS Vita Model Confirmed for US, Included in Borderlands 2 Bundle
Update: An earlier version of this post stated that Borderlands 2 on PS Vita is playable with up to three of your friends. We checked in with the SCEA Third Party Production team, who confirmed that while they strived to include four-player co-op in the game, they made a decision late in their development cycle to focus on providing the best two-player-only co-op experience possible. As a result, the maximum co-operative player count for Borderlands 2 on PS Vita is capped at two.
New PS Vita Model Confirmed for US, Included in Borderlands 2 Bundle

Hey Vita fans, we’ve got some great news to share with you today. Since its reveal at the Tokyo Game Show, many of you have asked when the new PlayStation Vita model will be coming to North America. Today, we’re excited to announce the new PS Vita Wi-Fi model (PCH-2000 series) will be available via the Borderlands 2 Limited Edition PlayStation Vita Bundle this Spring. The bundle will include the new slim PS Vita system in black, the first-person role-playing shooter hit Borderlands 2 with six DLC packs, and an 8GB PS Vita memory card – all for $199.99 (MSRP).

The new PS Vita Wi-Fi model is approximately 20-percent slimmer and 15-percent lighter than the original version, with rounded edges to fit comfortably in your hands. The new model comes with 1GB of internal memory built into the system, and its 5-inch front touchscreen has a new high-definition liquid crystal display (LCD), giving you a high quality image that provides the same deep, immersive gaming experience that’s at the core of the PS Vita system.

You won’t need to worry about purchasing an extra PS Vita memory card to play Borderlands 2 out of the box – the limited edition bundle comes with an 8GB memory card. Also, the battery life of the new PS Vita system has increased to 4-6 hours of game play, up from 3-5 hours in the current model, and about 7 hours of video play, up from 5 hours from the current model. Extra juice for those long game sessions!

Many of you have waited patiently for Borderlands 2 to come to the PS Vita system, and we’re pleased to bring it to you bundled with the new PS Vita model. The game utilizes the PS Vita system’s unique front touchscreen and rear touchpad feature so you can easily zoom and pan on maps, manage inventory, inspect items, and more. You can shoot and loot through Pandora with a PS Vita-toting friend via Infrastructure online play, and you can also cross save your progress with your PS3. As an added bonus, Borderlands 2 for PS Vita includes six downloadable content (DLC) packs: Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Psycho Character Class, Mechromancer Character Class, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and the Collector’s Edition Pack.

If you haven’t played Borderlands 2 yet, the storyline follows six vault hunters through the world of Pandora in an attempt to defeat the notorious Handsome Jack of Hyperion Corporation. The Borderlands 2 Limited Edition PlayStation Vita Bundle is great for those who are new to the game, or if you’re already a fan, it’s a great way to experience Borderlands 2 again right in the palm of your hands.

As with all PlayStation hardware, the PS Vita system has evolved in so many ways in the last two years. At the launch of PS4, we introduced PS Vita system’s innovative Remote Play feature, making it the ultimate companion device for the PS4 system. We know how much all of you PS4 owners have enjoyed it – I know I have. Additionally, we recently demonstrated its compatibility with PlayStation Now, our new streaming game service that leverages cloud-based technology, allowing you to play a variety of PlayStation 3 games on the PS Vita system when the service launches later this year. And let’s not forget the great games launching on PS Vita this year – including Minecraft, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, God of War Collection and The Walking Dead Season 2. Our goal is to bring you more games to enjoy with our most powerful handheld console, and we look forward to announcing new titles for the PS Vita system this year.

So, are you ready to shoot-and-loot with the new PS Vita model? Let us know in the comments!

  • I own an original Vita and am having trouble finding the 32gb memory card anywhere (at a reasonable price). Also can we expect to get the 64gb memory like in Japan or no?

  • @playstationmvp @John Koller its cool we getting the new vita but they could’ve put 3-D in it and put a better camera inside the new vita.

  • Hey, questions:
Will these games comming with cross save from ps3?
Will they come with their all set of trophies?

  • i already have a vita but i would like to know if the vita tevee will be coming to western shores?that is all

  • @51 keep the 3d garbage out of the vita.3d was just a gimmick or a fad that today nobody but a few still cares about.

  • Is the OLED version going away permanently or will it continue to be sold side-by-side with LCD version?

  • 500 GB VITA card please!

  • Only on black? No colors or custom design?

  • i bet game stop will have a trade in promotion.

  • Well I’ll never trade my OLED screen for this lesser version, but great news for Borderlands 2! Its really great to see that its a GOTY ekdition as well as having cross save

  • People, you have to understand this PS Vita wasn’t made for all of us who already own one to upgrade to. In fact this is a downgrade in some ways. But that’s by design. The original Vita hasn’t exactly flown off the shelves. Sony needs to bring manufacturing costs down so they can offer the system for less or have better bundles such as this one to try to attract NEW Vita owners. Especially new PS4 owners who’ve been on the fence about buying a Vita and don’t necessarily want one for it’s games but more so for Remote Play / Second Screen functionality with their PS4’s. The next step of course is more games which the Vita is a bit lacking in presently.

  • I’ve love to pick up a Slim but the lower quality LCD screen is a no-sale for me. I’d love all of the other benefits of the slim, but the quality difference between the original OLED and the new LCD is pretty obvious, with the LCD losing out big-time. Make a slim with an OLED and you’ve got a sale. :)

P.S. – love my original white Vita.

  • Awesome, but with a caveat: will we get the other colors like Japan?

Also, PS Vita TV, when? :(

  • Good price, good bundle. Could have been better with some kind of Borderlands design on the system, but it’s also the new version, so that doesn’t seem worth chirping too much about.

The Vita is great, and I hope this entices many to buy.

  • *sheds single manly tear*

This is a good bundle. It is not perfection incarnate, but it:
    – Sells a Vita
    – Supplies a memory card that is adequate for downloadable titles (read: PS+)
    – Provides a widely recognizable game, if only for the sake of consumer confidence
    – Offers the above at a clearly discounted price point

It’s kinda like how the Call of Duty bundle did in fact sell a decent chunk of Vitas, only this time the game is actually good and the memory card is larger.

  • Jhernandez i know you want to talk about vita’s but, wana play call of duty ghosts on the weekend!!! And make sure to anwser if you don’t anwser than dos any gamer on here want to play call of duty ghosts “ONLINE”!!!

  • KEY question: Is Borderlands 2 included in the bundle as a PHYSICAL media card or just a code for DIGITAL download?

This is important as Vita is a single-account system. If digital, only 1 account can play the game (unless your family members use your account on your Vita to play). If physical, multiple accounts can use that same card (another family member with his own account on his own Vita can enjoy it by sharing the game card). You can sell it after playing too.

As others have pointed out, the screen is visibly inferior to the original model.

  • Uhhhhh, what happened to the other two DLC in the Season Pass?!?! How can it not include Tiny Tina’s DLC?! That’s arguably the best DLC in a game ever!

  • i love my ps vita. I’ve had it for about a year and a half and use it daily. cannot wait for all these new games. borderlands looks very dope. thanks Sony.

  • Waiting on the 64 GB announcement and hopefully new firmware roadmap news for both PS Vita and PS4.

  • I think this is the first PS Vita game excluding the 4GB limit since the PS3 version of the game plus DLCs is about more than 8GB. Because of this, future PS Vita games will reach more than 4GB because developers need more storage not only for less compression, but also lots of contents that developers want. I say that this is the good idea but having 8GB or less when downloading a game that is more than 4GB is more like a piss off. PS Vita game card need to expend the size and/or get the optional next gen UMD that uses the size of the mini Blu-ray. That my own option because game size is increasing a lot due to lots of contents, FMV cutscenes and many more!!

  • Get rid of the 100 icon limit on the Vita! PLEASE!!!!

  • Any customer can have a Vita painted any colour he wants so long as it is black.

  • Alllllriiiiiight!

  • Any chance of cross save with the PC version? :D?

  • Long Day, anybody want to play call of duty ghost with me like i’m serious!!! And it’s just all about vitas, vitas, vitas for real thats alot of “INFO”!!

  • So wait, BL2 doesn’t come with Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt or Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep? The latter was easily the best DLC.

Also disappointed that we aren’t getting UVHP 2

  • My Nigga.

  • WHY LCD? I would’ve bought one if they had stuck with the OLED.

  • Aaaand Borderlands 2 has cross-save! Playstation nation rejoice!!

Here’s to hoping for some form of cross-buy GOTY edition for those of us who haven’t played it yet!

  • Day One purchase!!!!! I have also been waiting for updates for Dead Nation. Any release date info?

  • I’d like to see some BL2 PS Vita version footage. Also… how about a tentative Soul Sacrifice Delta release date for North America?
And… have you ever thought of porting Rogue Galaxy on PS Vita. The exploration system, and the battle, seems perfect for the console.

  • If I didn’t already have a Vita, I would get this bundle.

The Vita is a GREAT handheld!

  • No pink? No khaki? No lime? I’m definitely importing.

  • That bundle seems to be of good value.

I guess it would also depend if BL2 VITA is a good port (acceptable performance is visuals).

I just hope that the stand alone core model would be $ 169.99 or $ 179.99 with soon to follow color variety.

FFX/2 LE 2K Bundle would probably do a bit well if Sony made it available for NA.

I am sure the 64 GB would eventually come that’ll bump down the tiered card prices.

Goodluck Sony! I am eager to try out the Mura-Free VITA 2000 in stores before I decide to consider on actually getting one.

I hope you guys could make the color temperature of the 2K colder since most reports say it’s very warm (yellow screen).

  • Come on!!! Anybody want to play “CALL OF DUTY GHOSTS” with me cause nobody seems not to anwser!!!

  • totally cool! a few important details i need to make an informed decision. is the vita in this bundle only in black? is borderlands 2 cross-play? cross-save? will the included dlc packs transfer to my plus copy of borderlands 2 on ps3? was any of this information covered in this article i totally “did” read

  • Please do not discontinue the OLED model.

  • Oh and I hope that this bundle will actually have SCEA do some marketing.

The lack of ANY marketing AT ALL for the last year was ridiculous. Especially since KILLZONE: Mercenary was the perfect game to sell the Vita in NA…. but no. Not a thing.

  • The non-bundle version should retail for 170$.

You should also hire me and I’ll show you how to revitalize the vita.

  • @Elvick_ knows! SCEA must invest on marketing the PS Vita, as deserved. It has a decent library already, but it’s unknown to those who don’t own the system.

  • Will you guys be releasing the 64 GB memory cards, too? And while you’re at it, fix the 100 app limit so we can fully utilize the larger cards.

  • Please… PLEASE give us multiple colors!

  • Come on man!!! Really… ya’ll can’t anwser if ya’ll can play call of duty ghosts with me ya’ll rude!!!(just kidding but, i thought u gamers play call of duty ghosts “ONLINE”!!!)

  • This looks awesome. Now what about a nice price drop on the system and the memory cards. The cards are so overpriced it’s insane. That and why is the system the same price if you buy it alone as when you buy it with the game? I go to my video game store and it’s 199$ by itself, or it’s 199$ with Wallking Dead. Shouldn’t the one without the game be cheaper, even 25$ or so less would be great.

  • eh…im perfectly happy with my original day 1 Vita…hate the new design personally…too rounded, plus i love the OLED screen so sad to see that got scrapped…but i guess its good for new people and people who like borderlands will love this(got BL2 for free and it just plain sucked, but i know im the 1% on that)and its also good to see it priced the same as the current model of the Vita so thats a bonus

  • Forget ya’ll then about the call of duty ghosts sense ya’ll can’t listen, anyway i know ya’ll liking this game so far, make sure to keep your comments going ok!!!

  • So the non-bundle addition is going to cost the same?
I already ordered a white/yellow one- so it’s all good.

  • What ever ya’ll can’t listen at all not being mean just saying sense nobody is anwsering my question, go ahead just keep talking about this “GAME”!!!

  • I got the white and lime green slim when they launched and I love it!!! The 1gb of internal is great, and the new rounded design, plus being lighter has made it much easier to hold for a longer period of time. Plus I will def pick up Borderlands for the vita, it is perfect for the handheld.
