Disgaea 4 Coming to PS Vita, NISA 2014 Lineup Detailed

Last night, the small but spunky team at NIS America reminded downtown San Francisco of its dedication to quirky JRPGs and unusual adventures. Sporting matching white and blue “Dood” jerseys, the team presented its lineup for 2014 at a local venue, with a little help from a torrent of teaser trailers. Anime in-jokes, self-referential dialogue, and explosions of color dominated the multimedia showcase, staying true to NISA’s tradition of catering to otaku culture.

The evening began with NIS President Souhei Niikawa — donning a regal Prinny hat — thanking members of the press for their continued support. Niikawa also revealed that NIS is working on a PS4 game that would enjoy a proper announcement at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

His brief but humble wishes were followed with a host of trailers, each representing one of NISA’s projects for the year.

The rich and engrossing strategy RPG returns to PS Vita. The latest in the long-running, cult-classic series, A Promise Revisited packs tremendous amounts of content into one portable experience.

The PS Vita follow-up features all the downloadable content from the PS3 version, brand new scenarios, new characters, and additional musical tracks (making for more than 100, total). Along with another tier of spells and job techniques, A Promise Revisited looks to be the definitive version of Disgaea 4.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye DespairDanganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

PS Vita — Fall 2014

On the heels of the fun and sinister original, NIS America announced Danganronpa 2 would be coming to the states later this year.

As the Hope’s Peak Academy class travels to a tropical paradise for a “heart-throbbing school trip,” the murderous bear Monokuma returns to play his deadly game of truth and lies. New characters, new mini-games, and a new tribal council make up this unique story. Prepare for the same dark humor and intrigue when Goodbye Despair comes to PS Vita.

Fairy Fencer F

PS3 — 2014

One of the new game announcements emerging from the event, NIS America pulled the curtain back on its latest acquisition: Fairy Fencer F.

With concept art by famed designer Yoshitaka Amano and music by legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu, Fairy Fencer F tells the story of a great battle between the Goddess and the Vile God. Long sealed away, the weapons fashioned by these two deities remain scattered throughout the world. As the young man Fang pulls one such weapon — called a Fury — from a stone, he finds his destiny forever changed.

Battle Princess of Arcadias

Another one of the new games announced last night, Battle Princess of Arcadias is a colorful, side-scrolling brawler RPG. Guide Battle Princess Plume through the Kingdom of Schwert and engage in skirmishes against the enemy.

Employ an ample number of skills, weapons, and collectable gear in massive boss battles and team-based fights.

PS3 — March 2014

The Forest Witch and the Swamp Witch have been bickering for 100 years. Fortunately for the Swamp Witch, she just uncovered a legendary soldier deep in slumber. Suddenly the century-long feud has tipped in her favor.

Play as the Hundred Knight, and serve the Swamp Witch Metallia in her goal of covering the entire world in mud. Equip five weapons simultaneously and chain attacks together to unleash devastating combos on Metallia’s enemies.

Demon GazeDemon Gaze

PS Vita — April 2014

Explore labyrinthine dungeons in this first-person RPG. Fight battles with screen-popping art, brimming with up-beat Japanese rock and adorable inn owners.

May or may not include a dragon princess. Spoilers: it does include a dragon princess.

Mugen Souls Z

Mugen Souls Z

PS3 — 2014

The Undisputed God of the Universe, Chou-Chou, returns with a brand new story. A direct sequel to the original Mugen Souls, this turn-based RPG features a hero with an empty coffin on her back (and, apparently, an empty head).

One of the silliest trailers on display last night, Mugen Souls Z allows players to enslave their enemies with a “fetish pose,” and inflict billions of points of damage in over-the-top attacks. A rainbow-colored barrage to the senses.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Producing Perfection

Hyperdimension Neptunia Producing Perfection

PS Vita — 2014

The first “idol simulation” from the team at NIS, Producing Perfection allows players to help produce the idol careers of the young ladies from Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Help the stars master the art of singing, dancing, and promoting themselves in order to win fame and adoration.

After watching NIS America’s presentation, there’s no doubt that the team continues to showcase its familiarity with niche game genres and it’s fervid love of the community around them. PlayStation.Blog will continue its coverage of the above games as they approach their respective launches, dood.

  • Fairy Fencer F~~~ Thank you NIS America! <3 If you were a person I'd definitely date you this Valentine's Day! ^^

  • Amazing news! Thanks NISA for always bringing us great games like this and i cannot wait to hear more about the secret PS4 title!
also please NISA bring over Ar Nosurge for the PS3

  • Glad to see some JRPG love for the PS3 and the Vita. This was the reason I bought those consoles and I’m glad to see this line up.

  • Does Disgaea 4 come with all the DLC?

  • I gotta say, I’m really happy that NISAmerica is bringing over Danganronpa 2! I’m surprised at the quick announcement, so soon after the first game’s release, but that’s a good thing, isn’t it? And you’re having a pretty quick turn-around about it, too! I’m glad the series has done well enough for you guys to warrant it’s continued release in America, and I hope this continues on into the next games!

Also thank you for getting Fairy Fencer F and Battle Princess of Arcadias! And I hope eventually you’ll consider bringing over the Neptunia ReBirth games as well, after you get done with Producing Perfection.

  • I will be buying most, if not all of these games.

    Gotta Love NISA!

  • Great now I feel like I’m missing out cause of my lack of PS3 :(

Put some of those games on PS4 please!

Don’t know how I missed that the 1st time

  • My PS3 broke. Will the PS3 games be on PS Now?

  • @ 1 monterossa rorona and other atelier games arent ported by nisa anymore, gust is publishing their own games in the west now.out of those games that they announced i will try fairy fencer and demon gaze.btw, ryan i they only showed 4 games since i was following the announcements on their own forums. i wish they have brought something different for the vita instead of a disgaea port but you just cant please everyone i guess and disgaea is surely a steady flow of money to nisa’s coffers.

  • We need The Witch and the Hundred Knights on Vita.
    Period.

  • Seeing that Disgaea 4 was coming last night made me very happy, but I was even happier to see DanganRonpa 2 coming, since I’m currently playing and loving the first. Add Demon Gaze to that and I’m a very happy Vita gamer. All day one buys without question. :)

Of course, now I need to go back and actually finish Disgaea 3, for some reason I never made it past the first few hours. Oh well, I downloaded the game again last night after seeing the announcement, it’s next up after DanganRonpa.

  • I cried manly tears of joy when i saw this a while ago. Thank you NISA for bringing these great line up to the west. Its a great yeat for playstationation! Beyond!

  • Wow this is great news for fans of NIS games & PS3/PSVITA owners!

  • Will end up buying nearly all of these.
Those REALLY bummed about no Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth announcement :(

  • My Wallet + NISA = I`m broke… Will definately be getting the following; Fairy Fencer F, The Witch and the Hundred Knight, Demon Gaze, Disgaea 4, Battle Princess of Arcadias and Hyperdimension Neptunia: PP.

I`ll probably wait on Mugen Souls Z until I see more of it, the first one was fun but the framerate issues in some areas and during combat were annoying enough for me to question if that has been fixed with the sequel.

Regardless can`t wait to get my hands on these.

  • Already bought “DanganRonpa” and preordered “The Witch and the Hundred Knight” and “Demon Gaze”, and the lineup for the rest of the year is incredible, waiting to pre-order DanganRonpa 2, Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4!

Please don’t forget the new Atelier Rorona, Atelier Ayesha Plus and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth too! Would be great to have this games localized! Thanks!

  • Incredible lineup for RPG fans. For those of us with Vitas, PS3s and a PS4, not enough time to play all these but that’s a great thing.

  • Just started Disgaea3 on my Vita last week and it is great! Now I know when I need to be finished with it to start in on 4.

  • Disgaea games are fun, I think I’m always going to wait for the Vita ports as they get all the DLC, Sorry PS3

Any news on Minecraft for Vita or PS4?

  • Thanks for bringing all these games over, I have a tiny questions thought. Will Demon Gaze have DLC’s? need to know if I should bother import the limited edition or not.

Reason is simple, switching region on Vita is a big pain and I live in Europe where you never release limited editions to.

Also it’s always possible the EU DLC’s will work like some older titles like the Atelier series between regions but still need to ask.

  • Really looking forward to seeing more Battle Princess of Arcadias, so far it looks like a pre-order for me.
Looking forward to Demon Gaze, and Fairy Fencer F looks good so far too.

  • I don’t wanna sound ungrateful. But the only game I was hoping to hear is coming is Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth. I heard rumours that the game is coming but NISA isn’t the publishers. But yeah, I always like to support, I bought Disgaea 3 on Vita day one even tho I hate tactics rpgs lol. I’ll probably get 4 for support, It’s a cool series with great art design, sadly I don’t personally enjoy the gameplay. But either way good work, you’ll have alot of happy fans.
    sadly just not me :(

  • Thank you! I want all of these except Battle Princess of Arcadias.

  • OOOOOOOooooooooooooh yeeeeeaaah :) new rpg’s game :D it’s will be funny to play (sorry for my bad english XD i’m french :D)

  • I’m over the moon about Battle Princess of Arcadias. I want!

  • Buying Neptunia PP LE – and really, all the Neptunia games coming out in the future – day 1! (“Day 1” being the moment it goes live on NISA’s online store for preorder)

    @24 (Teflon02)
I know, dood – I was hoping for Re;birth 1 news too – as Japan has FOUR Neptunia games (PP, Re;birth 1 and 2, and the Noire game) on Vita, while we haven’t even got one….yet. Keep in mind that they may make announcements later in the year. Also, remember that Idea Factory International was only intended to be more of an information hub rather than a publisher. IF really wanted to release Monster Monpiece in the West but nobody was interested in acquiring the license (and it’s not hard to see why). Therefore, IF Intl decided to take it upon themselves to localize the game and censor some of it too. It’s a very risky proposition, as they really don’t have a lot of staff, or money for that matter.

My point being, NISA will most likely announce Re;birth 1 later this year. It’s most likely too early for them to announce it because they’re just now in the middle of localizing the first of all those Neptunia games I mentioned.

  • Too bad Fairy Fencer F and the other PS3 games arent also on Vita and/or PS4 :( (Im only buying current gen console games now)

  • Also, I’m not buying Neptunia PP because of the Idolm@ster gameplay. I’m buying it because it’s Neptunia, goddammit!! (Though I’m looking forward to the gameplay.)

  • Really wish we got Rebirth; 1 announcement too. Oh well.

    Love every announcement.

  • Look at the PS Vita games that are coming out, I am so excited to see all of the games coming to the platform. And there original games as well the year of the PS Vita. I’m glad that i have 1 since day 1!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Of the 8 games described in Ryan’s post, I will be getting the following:

    1. Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited
    2. DanganRonpa 2: Good-bye Despair
    3. Fairy Fencer F
    4. Battle Princess of Arcadias
    5. The Witch and the Hundred Knight
    6. Demon Gaze
    7. Mugen Souls Z
    8. Hyperdimension Neptuna Producing Perfection

    Not necessarily in that order.

  • @24 – Idea Factory has their own publishing arm in North America now. Could be they’ll be localizing that game themselves. The first game they’re publishing is Monster Monpiece for Vita some time this year.

  • Oh! Also, Ryan, can you let NISA know that a lot of people in North America (and probably Europe as well) are really interested in “If You Thought It Was Harem Paradise, It Was Yandere Hell”?

    THANKS! ^_^

  • they all look the same to me.

  • Getting everything except Mugen Souls and Neptunia (sorry, I’m chibi/ lolied out lol).

MOAR VITA GAMES PLEASE!!! Grab them all! Still lots of great titles waiting for localization in the West.

Re: jimfear. The all have an anime aesthetic, but they are mechanically and visually quite different if you examined them with any depth. Its okay if you don’t like Japanese games, this probably isn’t the thread for you to be posting in.

  • Don’t Play With The Lights Off- I think some might get that, but can I just throw all my money at you guys for all those games? Because I want them, an how many have levels go to 1,000 or higher?

Mugan Souls Z, its power level is OVER 1,009!!!! ……… Sorry I had the scouter upside down, its over 9,000.

  • Senran kagura titles please!

  • Fairy Fencer F looks pretty cool. If it s an online game with PSO2 style mechanics then yeeeeesssss.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight looks neat and has anthro characters which is always great :3

    That Disgaea though 0_0

  • @35 I highly doubt it, due to the reasons I stated in @29.

  • Dear god they have more junk like this coming to vita? When does it ever stop I swear! If its not stupid lame indie games its this stuff. So not a fan of japan type games of cartoon crap style games. We want infamous, nascar, GT or GTA on vita not this child stuff. God my vita is collecting tons of dust of late. Where is more RACERS for vita? This is getting so lame. Vita is like a 2ds and lame as much as it is as of late.

  • At least borderlands 2 is coming and is about as close to cartoon I enjoy playing. But no telling when it will arrive since sony is great at last minute DELAYS as always.

  • Sweet list! Looking forward to playing Battle Princess!

  • Will US Vita Disgaea 4 for allow dual language for text and audio? Feels much better listening and reading the comedy stuff. :-)

  • @43
So instead of being respectful to fans of these games, you decide to assume that NONE of us want these? Wooowww…. Sony doesn’t have to cater to your every whim. I get that Japanese games aren’t for everybody (no game is, really), but that doesn’t mean you can go attack those who DO like them. Some of us like variety. Some of us ONLY play Japanese games. And some people play only AAA games. And I guess there’s a few people, like you, who have no respect for what other people like and don’t like.

I’m not trying to be mean, but your comment just makes me pretty angry.

And for the record, I don’t like most of the AAA games that come out every year (or most Western games in general), but I certainly don’t hate on them….most of the time.

  • I so can’t wait for Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. In fact, I’m surprised a game like that would be localized. Reminds me of The IDOLM@STER in a way. :)

@Tjoeb123 Wow, I’m surprised you know IDOLM@STER. I’ll probably buy it because my brother is a big fan of it. Who knows? The game could play really good.

  • NIS totally help Vita, i’m happy with all games coming to Vita, but really hope more new games instead.

  • Damn. I’m still trying to max out characters on Disgaea 3, that was given to us as part of PS Plus last year. I have yet to play other VITA PS plus games because of this. Damn my OCD.
