Preview March’s Instant Game Collection

Let’s take a look at what you’re going to get in March with your PlayStation Plus membership. To start, PlayStation 4 owners can enjoy the Apocalypse Edition of the critically acclaimed PS3 twin-stick zombie shooter, Dead Nation. The PS4 version includes updated visuals and controls, as well as a sweet interactive broadcast mode, so hit that “Share” button when you start playing!

PS3 owners get Tomb Raider, one of last year’s most praised titles. This reboot showcases Lara’s transformation from a recent anthropology graduate to a battle-hardened adventurer as her expedition crashes on a mysterious island. You’ll hunt animals, upgrade weapons and choose perks to increase Lara’s chances of survival.

Also on PS3: Thomas Was Alone, an adorable puzzle platformer that showcases the camaraderie of artificial intelligences depicted as various shapes, and Lone Survivor: Director’s Cut, a 2D adventure style survival horror game. Bonus! Thomas Was Alone and Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut are Cross-Buy titles, so you’ll get both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of those games.

For PS Vita this month, you get Unit 13: a third-person mission-based shooter where you’ll need to complete specified objectives, like staying in stealth or completing levels as quickly as possible. Then there’s Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, a massive experience where you can — you guessed it — kill monsters, and then use their body parts to craft new weapons & armor to take down bigger baddies.

  • Unpopular request, but PS3 could use some fighting games, take a break for the ALL ACTION 24/7! streak…

  • i notice there is only ever 1 game for PS4 but more for ps3/vita. Will ps4 ever get more that one game a month?

  • Tomb Raider was a damn good game. So for those that haven’t picked it up yet, this is a steal!

  • sweet, this is going to force me to buy a bigger memory for vita……….oh yes tomb raider, i’ve been patient…. :p……………this semester is blown for me hehe

  • Thomas was Alone and Monster Hunter only ones that sound good to me. I already have the hard copy of Tomb Raider. The rest dont seem that great.

  • I’m hoping that Monster Hunter Freedom Unite being free on PS + will expand the Vita’s Monster Hunter community. Even though you can only play multiplayer using ad-hoc, don’t forget you can play Monster Hunter Unite online Via the Ad-Hoc Party PS3 application.

  • @Kristine Steimer gives out the best news! Tomb Raider time!!

  • Been a Plus subscriber since the beginning. This is the first time I’ve really gotten burned. Just bought all these games. Oh well…

  • wow… this is the first month i have every game with the exception of unit 13….this is an awesome month none the less and i dont regret buying any of these games. MHFU is my favorite out of the group. spent hundreds of hours on that killing and carving through adhoc with my friend terry. and all the rest of the games are really good too. i think thomas was alone is better on vita, or fits perfectly for a handheld, but i havent tried Lone Survivor on my ps3 yet. I got Lone Survivor years ago on my PC and bought the Vita version on day one because i liked it so much. def worth another play in HD on my big screen. and tomb raider was an amazing reboot! thanks sony.

  • So far the best month for me :3

  • Feel free to add a “US-only” tag to the appropriate games. AU PS+ never saw Remember Me nor Payday 2, and seeing as that’s why I got PS+ (That or buy Remember Me) I was (And still am) pretty damn angry about that “fine detail” that was never pointed out.

  • Tomb Raider’s been highly recommended, and is one of two franchise titles I don’t have on Steam already.

Already have Thomas Was Alone, but still need to go through Benjamin’s flight, preferably with my sister in audience. (I’unno about her, but ChrisxLaura OTP 4lyfe.)

Lone Survivor, another I have on Steam, but unlike TWA, haven’t booted it up yet.

Unit 13’s a wash for me, regardless of Vita status, though the 3G capabilities could push me toward such a model one of these days (which’s fine by me, since I still have that P4G case to make use of).

Monster Hunter… Tried the 3DS demo, but didn’t click with me that first try. But, hey, should I ever have a Vita and get the urge to try again…

And Dead Nation. Eh, already have it on PS3, and a PS4’s less imminent than its handheld counterpart, so super-wash for me.

Good month, though. Could use some more kid-like titles (Thomas may seem that way, but it can be rather mature).

  • Oooh, Monster Hunter’s a PSP title. Ah, tricky headers, against my skimming eyes. Well, then, it’s up to whether my PSP’s got the free space.

  • Flipping awesome! I almost bought Unit 13 the other night! I’ve already mastered Thomas Was Alone, but haven’t played Tomb Raider yet. This is going to be a good month of gaming!

  • We keep getting fed games… $50 well spent. Best deal a gamer can buy, especially if you own both PS3 and Vita, AND PS4. AND 2 of these games are cross buy? Mighty impressive… Thanks a lot!

  • It says Monster Hunter is for Vita, but I couldn’t find any reviews for it. I then looked at PSP and found it. Was saying it was for Vita a mistake?

  • little bummed as i bought Thomas and Lone Survivor when they were on sale recently. Buyers remorse and all that, but theyre good little indie titles so I dont mind if a little of the money that i spent on the titles makes it back to Curve. Looking forward to TR. Havent had a chance to play a TR since legend. If at all possible, can we not put titles on sale a few weeks before theyre going to be free, so i can forego this remorse currently experienced?

  • Hey guys, a proud PS3, PS4, and Vita owner, was wondering if Unit 13 is worth it. I’ve heard good things about it. Great month BTW!

  • @rmj2bpresident Monster Hunter Unite is a PSP title but its compatible with the Vita. There’s a small learning curve for each weapon but is an excellent game.

Tomb Raider doesn’t have an option to inverse X-axis so I can’t play it anyway.

why western developers do this all the time? shouldn’t be hard to implement something basic like reversing both axis.”

It really wouldn’t be too hard to rewire a DS3 controller to do this, but I agree they should add options for it.

  • @Daemoroth-AU,

This entire Blog is for the most part “US Only”. Few things don’t apply to Canada or Mexico. But the focus of all the posts are for North America.

  • Already own Tomb Raider and Thomas Was Alone, but both are great games and people are going to love playing them.

Looking forward to Lone Survivor, and finally catching up on some of the free games I’ve already gotten through Plus!

  • @Daemoroth-AU

Why would they need to do that? You are on the NA PS Blog. The news delivered here is primarily for NA. If you are looking for AU PS+ updates then you are in the wrong place.

  • when is dead nation comng on ps vita?

  • @Sevyne & @TwinDad
Maytbe because I’ve yet to find a review site (Game Informer, Gamespot, etc.) that makes the distinction. First time coming here and first time PS+ member on the back of review sites who also don’t point out the fact that they’re going gaga over US-only content.
I came here to provide feedback to the source (already did the review sites, but that’s a symptom). Wouldn’t kill them to add some clarity, I would have created a US account and subbed to the US PS+ if I knew the offerings were so far apart.

  • Look at this https://blog.playstation.com

This is where you are, correct? Notice the “us” in the name? It’s there for a reason. Granted, it should say na because this blog covers all of NA and not just the US, but I think you get my point.

    There’s even a EU PS blog, https://blog.eu.playstation.com

Notice the “eu” in it? Guess what that means? Do i need to say it? I don’t think i do.

    @ neuropunk,
I bet it makes you so mad to see “crappy western games” do so well lol.
I have a strong dislike for JRPG’s, but I’m not going to call them trash an crap just because I don’t enjoy them.
    Grow up.”

Thing is that JRPGs are the best games and you’re probably just a new casual gamer who just cares about graphics and linear generic pewpew interactive movies. JRPGs have a ton of exploration and depth to them, unlike your 6-10 hour linear western pewpews. Thing is that I hate on bad games, and the new Tomb Raider just isn’t Tomb Raider. I am playing it right now and it’s just generic western junk.

Also, is there going to be a DLC skin so that we can play as Lara Croft?

  • Tomb Raider, and Freedom Unite… I think this is the first time I’ve been legitimately excited to renew my plus in about 3 months.

  • Damn! Third month this has happened. Don’t take me wrong, it’s a good one but this is the third month in a row that I already own the free games, I should stop buying anything. (Plus on secondary account – smart mouths, stay away).

  • Hmm…nice update…Tomb Raider is a good game and I still don’t have it but its a game that I must have in disc so it’ll be just going to the download list.Bought Thomas Was Alone some weeks ago in the sale. And Dead Nation, damn I thought it was a new game and I just got excited for nothing, just checked the post of it to see that its the same game and looks more like a milk, can’t believe Sony’s jumping into the fray of ” “enchanced” edition”…but oh well at least its free.

So I’m glad with Lone Survivor and Unit 13…been waiting for that Unit 13 for a long time.Game shall be good for free.

As always great video and thanks Sony.

  • @ 253 EwokXIII – Are you seriously asking for that?….Jesus f***ing Christ.

  • we need more big PS4 titles… and possibly introduce 2 new PS4 games rather than one for now.
I’ve to keep going back to PS3 to play the awesome blockbuster games and my PS4 is sitting there collecting dust.

Basically PS4 PS Plus owners do not benefit anything from IGC currently.

  • I am loving this PS Plus update! I do have an issue on PSN Store Webstore, I dont have internet to get all my PS Plus goodies. When I use the webstore off my cell or computer over Wifi I can not get anything. Not Plus games or even deals just nothing. I dont wanna miss out on Dead Nation on PS4. Can you please help me on what I should do?

  • All those complaints about games that they already have bought or PS4 games…

    1) if you’re not patient enough and can’t wait of course it can happen that one, two or all free rental games each month are already in your game library.

    2) PS4 is still young and needs to build up a decent game library like the PS3 did over the years. After that we can really expect better deals and more games.

For me PS+ is great. I can wait for games to be released on PS+ such making it the best game rental service ever.
That said me too bought quite some games that has been on sale but that’s fine. It was my decision to buy them knowing they could be showing up on PS+ tomorrow :D

  • neuropunk on February 27th, 2014 at 11:18 pm said: “JRPGs are the best games”

I wholeheartedly disagree. And I’m not a new gamer (3 decades deep) or a casual gamer. I don’t care about graphics at all, and just like you I’m not too fond of first-person shooters.

But JRPGs don’t appeal to me either. Honestly, they come across as being corny as hell, they play like they’re for young children, and it seems like most of them you can beat just by pressing X a few thousand times. RPGs don’t take skill, they just take time. GRIND AWAY.

I’d rather play games that require legitimate skill or contemplation to complete because then it actually feels like I’ve accomplished something.

  • Yes Yes YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ALL GOOD LINE UP i dint think it be this good i get my second ps4 on 21st march would it be possible if we could have ac liberation ps vita i tryed ps plus for 3month and not one regret i wished i go on it sooner iv been on it 7months i would recomend ps plus to everyone

  • uhh the picture for the monster hunter game is not correct the dragon on the picture is exclusive to the frontier versions that being said reasonably good line up as always

  • I heard a rumor that next week the PlayStation 3 will have a firmware update which will finally let users sort their game library ALPHABETICALLY.

This would be great as some of us have games totalling over 1,000.
Is there any truth to this??
Also, I’m not sure when it happened but my Download List is totally out of order. The last couple months are fine, but then it looks like it’s been randomly shuffled. It makes finding things really annoying. And yes I know I can search for games, but if I don’t remember what I bought then this function becomes worthless. I really hope this wasn’t done on purpose to make people forget what games they actually own.

  • @288 SpooNManX – If you’ve renewed your Plus subscription, all content dependent on that subscription will be relisted according to your renewal date. Threw me hella off first time I noticed it, when I added time again nearly a year ago.

As for that rumor… You best not’ve gotten my hopes up, boyo.

  • Well… Tomb Raider blows my mind!

Excellent indie games! Thomas Was alone it’s great!

    Thanks!

  • I really hope you can put Tales of Grace F on sale !! Many thanks !

  • Keep it up Sony, another good looking month.

Some solid indies and Tomb Raider which was well done. I just wish it was more Tomb Raider and less Uncharted starring Lara Croft.

Here’s hoping that the follow up has more tomb raiding in it and less multiplayer.

  • Love this videos! A joy to watch, short and fast, and with Kristine’s beautiful voice! Keep this up!

  • Thomas Was Alone and Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut should have been ps3/vita games as I’d much rather play them on vita

  • I was hoping with Far Cry 3, this is not my month :(

But i cant said nothing becuase February leave us a great collection of games on PS3.

    Keep doing this great thing!

  • Great update! Looking forward to Tomb Raider, Thomas Was Alone, and Monster Hunter.

Unlike some of the folks above I’m happy to see (good) PSP games. They give us PSP owners some value from PS+, and they’ll be there waiting when I finally pick up a Vita if I haven’t gotten to them yet. And there are many, many more PSP owners than Vita owners.

  • this is AWESOME!!!!!

  • @294 theyre cross play/buy so you get both versions

  • Thanks for the PSP game. There are a lot of PSP titles out there that I’d love to try on VITA. Also excited to try Tomb Raider. PS+ reminds me every week why I bought a Ps3/VITA and not one of those Brand X consoles.
