Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Out Today

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Snake moves across the dirt and rock with immaculate care, crawling in silence as rain soaks his suit. He blends into the darkness, and the passing chopper screeches overhead in ignorance of his trespassing. As the camera pans to reveal his face, each wrinkle on his brow betrays his great military experience and troubled past. But this is just another mission for the iconic hero, who returns to PlayStation today in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PS3 and PS4.

Following the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes finds Big Boss infiltrating a military compound in Cuba, with a mission to extract two high-value targets before they’re executed… or worse. Ground Zeroes establishes the initial story arc that will continue in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Think of Ground Zeroes as an appetizer to the main course.

The talented team at Kojima Productions have worked marvels on PS4, lending a breath-taking sense of realism to Ground Zeroes and the characters therein. The character models and animation have reached new heights for the series, while the large military base brims with detail, both large and small. Rain lashes down from the night sky in gouts, mechanized gates groan into motion as claxons blare, and the distant whir of an approaching jeep motor can send even an experienced player into a panic.

Special attention has been spent on Ground Zeroes’ controls, enabling players to move, crawl, dive, roll, and fight in fluid succession. In classic Metal Gear tradition, much of the fun comes from learning the behaviors of the soldiers on the base, and finding the best ways to deceive or dispatch them.

Snake has several tools for doing just that, including his trusty tranquilizer pistol, as well as a host of weapons on the base he can procure, from shotguns to rifles. Metal Gear fans will relish the return of other series standards, like engrossing radio chatter and a story steeped in intrigue. Although Ground Zeroes is but a taste of the full Metal Gear Solid V experience, it provides rich insight into Kojima’s future project.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes launches today for PS3 and PS4.

  • I want my money back! WTF was that?! 75 mins for $30!?!?!?!??!!?

  • Saw a video on YouTube where a guy did it in 10 minutes. Definitely rent if you can!

  • WTF i Pay 30$ for Just one mission? Dont buy this game They Will stole your money in bad way!!!!!!!!

  • I’ll wait until it’s cheaper for the PS4 version.

  • So I’ll assume that folks who were surprised by the length of the game, didn’t read ANY comments related to Ground Zeroes for the past month and a half or so? Because I’m no hc MGS fan myself and wasn’t interested in Ground Zeroes for a long while, but even I read news about how fast you could beat the game.

Of course, I’d also love for this to last a couple of hours at least, even with guns blazing tactics, but still…keep your ears and eyes open about stuff.

  • the kojima team themselves said that the game was a prologue and just an introduction to what phantom pain was and that it would be a short, small thing. they never boasted it to be the huge thing that everyone is expecting it to be. wrong though it may be, anyone who bought this game should have expected nothing more. that said, the fact that the EU consumers were given Peace Walker as a form of compensation for the disappointment and no one else has gotten much of anything, let alone any kind of official reply to any of this is beyond me, and quite frankly, very disrespectful and irresponsible to the consumers. we demand and deserve much better to say that we’re paying you for these things, essentially paying for the things you get.

  • This is a one level game, a demo. Replaying the same level doing different things does not add value. The price point is misrepresenting this product as being something that it is not. Not everybody has the time to trawl the internet and will make their purchase decision on the brand and pricepoint rightly believing they will be getting value for Money. They will be wrong but will be well within their rights to return this product to the store demanding a refund. Small print won’t cut it and the backlash on this will be huge.
Retailers should do everything they can to make all their customers are fully aware what they are purchasing. This is a paid for demo, nothing more.

  • Again, I’ll repeat myself…

***If you just do the main mission of MGS:GZ you’ll be at 8% complete of the game…Does that not sink in to you guys.

No way a demo would let me do all this..To the guy saying he’s seen bigger demos than this.. I can think of Infamous 2 demo and Mafia 2 demo and those demos were very limited to what your describing MGS:GZ let’s us do.

Shame how many judge without really knowing or watching videos to spoil a game for someone who is patiently waiting to play..I went in not knowing a damn thing beside people don’t like Quiet’s outfit..So I went in like WTF am I going to do and had fun ..Same with Infamous second son, I’am going in without watching alot of videos that spoil game and I’ll just play.

$30 dollars for the prologue and extra missions to the epic that will be MGSV. Well worth it to me imo. Demo? lol Kojima should make a demo for you all and make it just a obstacle course with some shooting and driving. I’ve played all demos and saying this is a demo just makes people seem fishy..

  • Ha ha should be no error!? its only 20$ on the psn store!? or to be more clear 19.99$ lol! ha ha no matter where you go on the internet it seems? people everywhere are complaining about the game being 2 or 3 hours long… i swear people complain to hear themselves complain….. buy it or dont simple as that.. and people wondering about the price difference between ps3 and ps4? your paying for the next gen quality of graphics upgrade?? its not hard to see that there is technical graphic jumps from ps3 to ps4 so you are getting what you pay for….man people? no one will ever be happy?… there is way to much complaining about anything that gets released that has a price tag on it? unfortunately it isn’t free to distribute game.. physically or digitally so… I’m sure people would complain even if it was free??? its sad actually…

  • Well worth the price of admission.. really great slice of what The Phantom Pain might be! Super excited.

  • @Zilas ^^^^^^^

I eat my words for breakfast daily..That was a great demo. Thanks for reminder. Bet a ton of people bought the game after that demo. A good start for a new ip and Capcom.

Yet , I’am having alot of fun with this $30 demo i bought. lol Peace playas

  • Anyone complaining about this being a ‘demo’ is ignorant , simple as that. If you watched a video of someone beating the first mission in 10 Minutes on YouTube that is YOUR fault. It took me approximately 3.5 hours to beat it the first time (which again is 8% of the full content). If you are a MGS fan like myself you should most definitely purchase this game, there is a ton of fan service and a lot of collectibles to find throughout the base. Everything you find will extend the storyline as well so there is a good incentive to continue playing until you achieve 100% completion. There is WAY more to this prologue than ‘the internet’ at large is claiming, just look at the generally positive reviews its receiving.

  • I miss Solid Snake. And, this demo doesn’t even have a boss fight.. Will get it when its on sale eventually.

  • The ending credits last longer than the game… I really thought that was only the first mission and then the credits started rolling… I’m shocked.. Dumbstruck even… And it was 29euros or so on the ps4 store?

What the heck…… Can’t remember a bigger disappointment, to be honest. It really felt like a demo… I feel cheated… And ripped off.

  • So now I need to start research games to make sure they are full games? Who would think to do that ahead of time? But, I rented it paid around $3. Perfect.

  • I’ll be importing the JPN version :D

  • I just msgv yesterday and it cost 20$ bucks I think its worth the buy
I think to many people complain if they did there research I have been watching the mgs v way back when it was being advertised on you tube and reviews yet it is quite small a game but The side mission make it far greater when phantom pains come out great after all it is The Big boss. so many were wondering about the big boss from other version now konami just accommodated there wish just be happy your not the one who has to kill there eyes on coding and programing ahh lol
I would none the less love to see the epic battle when solid snake faces big boss who was grey fox its just beginning

I see a very interesting story comming maybe in 5 years or 10 either way I have been with metal gear since the beginning

    wish you all luck
