Tales of Hearts R Coming to PS Vita This Winter

Tales of Hearts R

It’s impossible not to hear the shouts of JRPG fans worldwide asking for the chance to play a Tales game on PS Vita. Your hearts resonated across Facebook, Twitter, and gaming forums everywhere. So without further ado, we’re happy to announce that Tales of Hearts R will be making its way to North America in Winter, 2014.

For this special occasion, Hideo Baba, Producer on the Tales series, has prepared a video message straight from Japan. Keep an eye out for all the Tales goodies.

We’ve done our best to keep this announcement a surprise, and we’re excited to see the fans welcome this new addition to the growing heritage of Tales games.

The adventure starts with Kor, a young man living in a small village by the sea. While watching the house in his grandfather’s absence, Kor meets a young woman named Kohaku who has come searching for his grandfather.

However, a mysterious witch soon appears and casts a spell on Kohaku’s Spiria, the embodiment of her heart and soul. Kor attempts to lift the spell, but while doing so he accidentally shatters her Spiria Core, the source of her emotions. Armed only with the Soma, an unusual weapon given to him by his grandfather, Kor must now set out on a journey to find a way to make Kohaku’s Spiria whole once more.

With character designs by Mutsumi Inomata, and the new Aerial Chase Linear Motion Battle System enabling players to move freely in the air and experience aerial battles like never before, Tales of Hearts R is looking to become a JRPG classic in the PS Vita library.

  • Dual audio pls.

  • I’ll definitely be picking this up. I’ve come close to importing it a few times.

Speaking of which, I don’t know if its in your hands or Japan’s for the Shiny Festa games on iOS, but the price is… pretty ridiculous for an iOS game. $55 a pop. Even at the current limited sale price of $38 each, it’s still a lot. It was actually cheaper for me to just import all of them from Japan for PSP. First print, factory sealed.

Just something while I (possibly) have Namco’s attention. Nothing I’m sure hasn’t already been passed your way before.

  • Epic news!! I honestly almost gave up on Tales for Vita, but you guys are amazing. Thanks a lot for this! I’ll support you in all possible ways and I really hope Tales of Innocence R is coming to the West next year!

  • Thanks for bringing this over to the west! :)

  • So now we can *wink *wink, look for Tales of Inocence R and Tales of Vesperia, I sold my 360 for a PS4 an all my games and want to play ToV again, but n a Sony system.

  • You have made this JRPG gamer’s year. I just want Sony to know I will be buying every game announced recently… Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, Tales of Hearts R, picking up Demon Gaze today, just got Conception II… we are rabid for RPGs and we vote with our wallets.

Thank you Namco for this! I guarantee it will move people to buy a Vita in the west. Day1 and will be getting Xillia 2, Zestiria, One Piece, any Tales game Innocence and Vesperia ps3 or 4 would be amazing. Awesome… amazing news!

  • Bring to north america Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X / tales of phantasia X with JAPANESE original audio and english text please

  • asian? check!
    weird? check!

slap some anime tweens on it and let the millions roll in…

  • Yay! Finally we get Tales of Hearts R! Now the next question is do we get Tales of Innocence R and SAO?

  • This is excellent news! Now I really have a reason on getting a PS Vita after all! I’d rather Tales of Hearts R have only Japanese voice acting with English subtitles.I prefer Japanese VA over American VA anyway.

  • @Viewtiful_Gene
“Nooooo muh freedom language is superior, and every media should be in english audio because muh little murrikan brain can’t read too much words, it’s too tiresome, and I hate non-murrikan people! Murrika is the world! every other country rejecting muh superior culture should be nuked!”

Literally no one said that and thank you for proving my point that you are in fact a weeaboo.

  • Excited! Can I ask is there gonna be DLC available? And is there gonna be an anime and cg edition like the DS?

  • I’m glad the people here aren’t as unreasonable as a certain other board is being about the name changes.

Kor is latin for Heart, and Shing’s name had a kanji for heart in it, so the name change was likely to preserve that.
I’m happy for this release, and intend to get it day 1…. but first I need to get a Vita ASAP.

  • Oh so done… Day One Buy! Its a must! I been waiting for this since it was first announced that a remake was in the works! THANK YOU!

  • Yaaaaay!!!!!
Bring aaaaal the Tales series for Vita!

  • Love my job, since I’ve been bringing in $87h… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I’m making it online. All I do are easy tasks from this one cool site

  • Awesome news, it’s really simple.
You bring games for the PS Vita to the west and PS Vita owners will do the rest.
    Thank you!

  • Everything that says Tales of i bought by namco i just hope they start making these games on console to! Not everybody owns a handheld .

  • If any of you don’t know, Bandai Namco also revealed to press that Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment (PS Vita) is coming to North America this summer.

Thank you Bandai Namco, we love you full ^^

If just Tales of Hearts R is earlier than winter… I cannot wait to play this second time (this time actually understand the story)

  • Now Xillia 2 has been announced to come out August 22 this year. Not much long wait till’ the next tales games.

  • This is awesone News!!!

Hopefully, we can get Tales of Innocence on VITA as well!

btw, can you get with Gio Corsi and look into getting us a Tales of Vesperia Remaster on PS4 for NA? Should be an easy port since it is already translated, and would be AWESOME! I mean, insta-buys from all-over for that one!

  • That’s an impressive swag (or “merch”, if one must, these days) collection you got ther– Hey, that ain’t Lelouch!

Anyway, it’s GREAT to see JRPG love for the Vita. However, my hope & dream is a release — even if digital-only — of the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia. We need more legitimate bad-ass in our bishies. Like, clandestine brutality kinda tough, not that faux-brooding biz.

  • Hm? If I’m gleaning some comments right, then… aww, no English track? Better than nothing, and better than a terribad dub (see: Are Rise Fantasia), but, heh heh, could you imagine if, for once, it’s the localized voices that are made available as paid DLC? T’would be to laugh…and I might would buy that by itself just to support dubbin’s.

  • Day 1 purchase from me as for every Tales game released so far, only gripe about it is the fact that Shing’s name got changed to Kor. That’s gonna take a whole lot to get used to.

  • I’m so glad I’m not the only tales of fan here. I even have the tales games on PSP and PS3, that’s how much of a tales fan I am, even though I don’t understand most to what they say. I’m looking forward to more tales of games coming out here to the US.Thank you Namco, er, Hideo Baba-san.

  • I forgot to add “I don’t understand to most of what they say” in reference to the Japanese imports I buy :D.

  • Nice, it gives me more a reason to get a PS Vita Slim.

@101, agreed, I prefer to play my games in English Dub, I like to enjoy just to read a long than actually reading, that’s what manga for. I also hoping dual language (but in actually English first, but I’m trying to be nice, looking at you TecmoKoei).

  • Tales of Xillia 2—August 22 in the west for all you people complaining!

  • Finally a reason to buy the PS Vita!! :D

  • *+*+*+*+*+*+* SONY NEEDS MORE JRPGs! *+*+*+*+*+*+*

i wish i saw this earlier… whose going to read this now, but i still want to put this out there:

there is a good sized community of JRPG fans who are very passionate about this gaming scene. it’s not as big as the FPS fan base, but it is sizable enough for companies to take notice. NISA is a good example of how to release niche titles. but, i can understand a company not wanting to put so much money into a PHYSICAL copy of a game, so it is inevitable that if us JRPG fans want more games, we are going to have to get used to the idea of DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY titles. i know, it’s not the ideal method on the fan side of it, but we are going to have to get used to the idea of it. (aka. Atelier series for VITA, etc.) i sure as hell would rather buy a DD version than not have the game at all! but there are things companies can do to help sway US to DD games…

#1 offer a lower price for pre-order. instead of $39.99, try $29.99 if you pre-order within the first week. why? the price is going to get lower eventually, sales, etc. so offer it at a lower price point first to help create a fervor.

  • #2 offer exclusive pre-order DLC. avatar(s), PS3 theme(s), wallpaper(s), digital soundtrack, etc. one thing i would love to see with DD JRPG games is a ART BOOK! they do it with physical releases, so why not digital, too. package a nice little ‘game’ app for VITA or PS3-4 that is an interactive ART BOOK with soundtrack playing while viewing the production pictures, etc.

#3 use only the Japanese audio and only include English subtitles. JRPG fans hate horrible English dubs. (for example, the PS3 release of Atelier Ayesha was completely ruined by the English dub only. thankful you can turn down the voice track and just read the subs.)

i have a few more ideas but you get what i mean.

look at Bravely Default for 3DS… it was pure Japanese sensibilities and we bought it up like crazy!
there are tons of Japanese RPGs available in Japan that are really great games, but they need Localization! the well is deep and you gaming companies need to get on it and bring them over here!!!

*+*+*+*+*+*+* SONY NEEDS MORE JRPGs! *+*+*+*+*+*+*

  • More Tales games! Count me in. Really enjoying Tales of Xillia right now. Thanks for being awesome!

  • Already finished the Jap ver. It was a great game with great story.
If the US ver. has japanese audio, i will buy again for sure!

And..please don’t change the name from “Shing” to “Kor”.
Because Shing is Shing (totally unneeded translation). Because if you decided to have a japanese audio options, it’s gonna sound really stupid.

  • To tell the truth, all Tales of games have a good story and Tales of Hearts R is no different. I reckon that even the Radiant Mythology series are great with great stories, especially Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 2,3 on PSP even though they’re spin-offs and Tales crossovers. Tales of Hearts R is a great Tales of game because it’s on Sony’s handheld the PS Vita. Overall, all Tales of games are excellent and perfect JRPG’s, console and portable Tales of games alike.

  • Is it true this will be a Gamestop exclusive for the physical version? If so I’ll pick it up on PSN.

@47 I read along with the voices anyway so I like to have both as an option for variety but whether it has japanese, english, or dual audio for me isn’t a deal breaker.

@48 Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn is coming west, digital only for NA.

  • Will there be a bundle with a PSvita, or perhaps even a special tales of PSvita.. this is definitely a system seller for me.
Having a bundle would make it even more so though.

  • Thankyou to both namco and JRPGvita for this announcement.

one thing i was wondering though since this seems like the best entry to ask.
is there any possibility that the ps1 tales games (destiny and destiny 2 aka eternia) that were released in english would be available as psone classics in the future? i thought it may build interest in the series and also allow people to experience them without paying allot on ebay (at least with ps1 destiny 2)

anyway thankyou for this announcement and i will be buying the game day 1.

  • As you are bringing more Tales series to the US.

I love the Tales of Destiny series (1 & 2). Played the remake one on my PS2, and wanted to play again.
And i was looking to buy Tales of Destiny (Remake), but couldn’t find it on the Japanese PSN.
It would be great if you could bundle Tales of Destiny 1 (remake) & 2 together in one bluray, like you did with Symphonia. (anyways, the Dual audio for Symphonia is just superb! love it. Great job Bandai Namco!)

I bet EVERYONE is gonna love it. Would Pre-order it in a heartbeat.
Just a suggestion, hope it could be heard. ;)

  • Thanks for bringing this to Europe, im buying it on day 1 :)
also want to let Namco know that my preference is Japanese Audio.
    (never liked Dubs myself)

  • Thats some really good news :-)
Please BandaiNamco give us a japanese voice option, and I will definitely buy it!

  • Bring Gundam over too.

Gundam Assault Survive was so much fun, but it is a damn shame I was ony able to play it on a hacked psp. I would have never heard of it otherwise.

Why can’t we see Japanese games in the ps store in the first place?

  • A title I will be looking forward to.
Any chance we will ever see some of you titles go on sale digitally?

    Still waiting.

Really do want to buy, but as a digital owner, prices need to be reevaluated since there is no resale and is left up to trusting in Sony to validate / hold it.

  • I like the name Kor, and definately would not buy with japanese audio.
Its an import, and most English speakers would prefer it in a language they can understand.

I am not against native, only when cost, or lack of good cast prevent it.
I would much rather save the space though and just read it if necessary.

  • Nice. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles goes on sale tomorrow.
Going to definately pick it up after some review/research.
IGN did not have much positive to say about Dawn, and yet I tbought it looked more interesting.

The only thing that could have made it better, was for it to be on Vita.

  • My 1st Japanese game was Gravity Rush, i thought it was amazing game. Kinda looking forward to this game Japanese role playing game why not.. lets give it a try.
