DRIVECLUB on PS4 Release Date Revealed
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

Hi all. It’s a big day for us at Worldwide Studios as we are now in a position to announce a launch date for the much anticipated PS4 exclusive title from Evolution Studios — DRIVECLUB.

The team have been working relentlessly on the game and have captured a new video to showcase just how impressive it’s currently looking. I absolutely loved it, so please watch through to find out the date.

We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game.

The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category, and, because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.

In addition to the new date, we are also very pleased to announce that as of February 2014, Paul Rustchynsky — better known as Rushy — has been at the helm of DRIVECLUB as Game Director. We appreciate the announcement has come a little late, however we wanted to inform his appointment along with the new date announcement.

His experience when it comes to delivering racing games is impeccable. Previously Game Director on critically acclaimed MotorStorm RC, he has been an integral contributor to all major titles coming out of Evolution Studios since 2004. With Rushy in the lead, we know DRIVECLUB will deliver on its initial promise to be a truly next gen racing title for our PS4 portfolio.

We are really proud of the incredible work the team has produced — their tenacity and passionate pursuit of excellence is admirable, and DRIVECLUB will be all the better for it.

Your anticipation for the title since my last update has been a huge source of motivation for the team at Evolution Studios, and I know they are all extremely grateful for your continued support. Look out for plenty more news on DRIVECLUB in the coming weeks, including a blog update direct from Rushy tomorrow, and don’t forget, the date is in the trailer. I hope you enjoy watching it.

    This looks amazing! Cant wait!

  • PrimeroIncognito

So much for that “Vaporware” theory. Dorks.

  • DoTheKiller91

I’m so exited for this, i love cars and racing games the most, but I am a bit worried about the lack of JDM in the game. No GTR’s?

  • Old_PopTarts

Crap. I have a few friends that came from Xbox360 to PS4 that are REALLY going to be upset that this game has been pushed back that far. I’m going to have to listen to them talk crap all night tonight. One in particular is going to be griping until the game comes out. :/ I’m not the biggest fan of racing games, soo it doesn’t bother me too much. It does look really good though. I’m sure I’ll get it.

I second this!! I would especially like Splinter Cell HD collection ported WITH the Spies Vs. Mercenaries Multiplayer INTACT. There are a TON of fans of Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory multiplayer that would enjoy this IMMENSELY.

  • Disappointing. Supposed to be a launch title with a version for PS+ users. Then we were told its delayed till early 2014, now we get a date that’s still 5 months away. I expect better execution from Sony.

  • Wow, they really must have started over on this game. Nevertheless, I am guessing that there is reason for that, and it will only make this game that much better. October is going to have some pretty stiff competition with Batman, Alien, and Shadow of Mordor coming out.

  • Shuhei Yoshida, thank you for giving us a release date and also thank you for giving us the PS4 and its 8GB GDDR5 memory for that awesome 1080p graphics. I have been waiting for this game for so long, it was one of the reasons i got a PS4 and jumped ship from the 360. I can see how much i missed from the last generation by not having a PS3 and i kind of wonder if i should get a PS3 also, but the awesome 1080p PS4 graphics spoiled me so much that i can only enjoy PS4 games ( and my Vita ofcourse ).

Anyway being a true racing simulator fan, please make the driving physics more like a Gran Turismo game, rather than a NFS franchise. The game looks AWESOME but it needs a real physics, even if its not an absolute simulation. Thought I would enjoy a Gran Turismo 6 HD or GT 7 on PS4 even more and i am sure alot of people will agree with me.

Again, thank you for giving us the PS4 !

  • CrusaderForever

Nice, take your time! Most important thing is to get the game right. Looks gorgeous and I cannot wait to play it.

  • I guess this is also the announcement that it’s no longer called #DRIVECLUB. Now all we need to do is get rid of those caps…

  • Just wish they would release another MOTORSTORM. It was my all-time favorite racing series next to Road Rash and Twisted Metal. I really hope they didn’t give up on it. I hate racing sims…

  • Hooray for Paul! #DriveClub is in good hands!

    @ 7, Timmzy27- Omg SPOILER.

  • October? Total BS. Game was supposed to be a launch title now you expect me to go back to my PS3 to play GT6? Pathetic from Sony TBH.

Usually I don’t mind a delay or two here and there but this is ridiculous. Def not buying this game as it is coming out around the same time as The Crew. Rather give them my $$$ than Sony who i have supported for long time but has not supported me.

  • I just came to salute Shu.

  • ElektroDragon

It looks like they took an entire extra year to rework the whole game. And a good thing too, because at last PAX Prime, the game looked last gen and played like a gen even older than that. Now it will hopefully outshine Forza.

  • I can’t believe its taking this long just to release a generic racing game.

  • BlueBl1zzard

A lot later than Iexpected, but alas, good games take time to make. Can’t wait!

  • BlueBl1zzard

@Ryumoau C’mon Ryu, just as I was starting to think that you were better than that…By the sound of your comment it doesn’t look like you’re too interested in this game. If that’s the case , why would you even click on this blog post?

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ BlueBl1zzard

Trolls never change. It’s not even a mental illness, but even deeper… It’s a spiritual condition.

You’re right, he’s not interested in the game at all. He just posts crap like that to get attention. Misery loves company. In this case, it stems from his jealousy of others who possess the skills to play games that require quick reflexes, such as a racing game. (You’ll notice that every genre he criticizes is a genre that requires genuine skill.) It’s self-hatred manifesting itself through phony consumer concerns, given away to be false by the overlying condescending tone. But, trolls never have been very tactful, now have they? ;)

  • Well, as long as it’s 60 fps and not a GT clone, then I’m interested.

  • guitarded77

About time… it better be at GT levels after that delay. PS: It’s really crappy not to just put the release date in the blog post. Not all of us are currently at our PC, and not all phones do video well.

  • shadysaiyanz

Releasing in the fall like that will really effect the sales of this game with bigger established IPs coming out then, most people will choose to get those and put this on the back-burner if they ever remember to go and buy it. A summer release would’ve been perfect for this as #33 said but whatever. I’ll be picking it up day 1 regardless.

    Wow almost a year delay. . .

  • Im no longer “hyped” about this game. I was… Anyway… I hope PS+ subscribers still get the version they offered so I can try it out and fall prey of its hyped out roads again.

  • ElectroplasmGT

Is there going to be Logitech G27 support? Most of us that play racing games like GT and have ps4s use G27.

  • israelpacheco89

Thanks for the update Shu! This game is looking incredible! Definitely a day 1 buy for me.

  • Wow the game looks great… good to see that it finally has a release date will try the PS Plus Edition.

  • ps_psychedelic

Amazing, been waiting to play this since day one, good to see it on October because then I can finish Watch Dogs and other goodies in the meantime.
Really excited to grab those wheels.

And good to see Mr. Yoshida around.

  • hi shu, you can talk about the racing wheels for this game? I have a g27 and need know about this support. And thanks for the playstation team community support

Please wait for further update by the team.

  • Wish it could release mid this year, but oh well. Can’t wait.

  • Mr Yoshida

Would it be possible to have an update between now and when the game launches that will support a racing wheels like the Logitech G25.

Also could we get some games for the ps4 that use some of the new tech . I have plus and all the games given so far for ps4 seem to be titles that you can play on the ps3 , ps vita or psp(Mercenary Kings) .

  • Finally a date – October 7, 2014.

New trailer looks great. Hoping this REALLY pushes the power of the PS4 and shows graphics, audio, physics, gameplay, and online features above what the competition has demonstrated.

  • Netweb_System

  • Awesome news hu…saw the video yesterday but had time to read the full article only today…..Driveclub looks great and the graphics damn,I may be crazy but looks better than Gran Turismo sometimes….I just hope that Driveclub has a lot of arcade style in it and I mean a lot.I will be buying the game…maybe by october I’ll already have my PS4 ha who knows?

Now Evolution and Sony…could you guys make another Motorstorm please?….no RC.

Yoshida-san….that reply to 28 was just plain AMAZING…you’re the boss.

  • @ 51 LuiSpartanMIMIMI – You’re lame.

  • I’m glad that they took the time they needed to complete their vision. too many games have suffered from adhering to a schedule rather than dedicating the time to their craft. Still, the frustration that I expected this game in November is easy to be upset about, that much is true. I’m still in for a copy day 1 ;D

  • I wish the ps+ version would be released at least 7 days prior to the actual game so I can make up my mind to pre-order or not.

  • If this game is as good as it looks, AND supports my fanatec racing wheel then I´ll buy a PS4 to play it. Pinky swear

  • Please reply to this comment Shu Yoshida!

  • thomasadison

Woah! This game looks quite amazing. I have only played a few racing games in the past (need for speed, gran turismo, grid, etc.) but it looks like the players will be getting quite a treat from this game on the PlayStation 4. Can’t wait to try it out!

  • thomasadison

Also what will the PS+ Edition have that the regular edition won’t? Surprise me! :D
