MLB 14 The Show Hits PS4 Today

Update: The PlayStation Store download issue regarding MLB 14 The Show on PS4 has been resolved. We apologize for any frustration this caused, and thank the community for its patience and understanding.

It’s been a little over a month since we launched MLB 14 The Show on PS3 and PS Vita. We’re gratified by the positive feedback we’ve received for new features like Quick Counts and Player Lock, and we’re blown away by the creativity on display in the new Community Challenges mode.

We recognize there’s a great deal of anticipation to see the next generation of The Show finally debut, and we’re proud to announce that MLB 14 The Show is available today for PS4. Already picked up the PS3 and PS Vita versions? You can carry over all of your saved progress; we know of some folks who’ve already pored dozens of hours into their Road to the Show character, and we want to make sure that none of that progress gets lost.

As you may know, one of our other big save-related innovations this year involves the ability for your progress this year to carry over into next year and beyond. We know it’s not something you can test now, but we’re confident you’ll love it when 2015 rolls around.

We weren’t content to simply port over this year’s game to PS4; our talented team has invested a great deal of work into this next-gen debut. This includes completely rebuilding all 30 MLB stadiums from scratch; textures are four times as large and environment polygon counts have jumped from 150,000 to more than 1 million. We’ve made advancements in countless areas: players are more detailed, down to the hairs on their face; fully rendered grass adds vibrancy to our grand cathedrals; a revamped lighting engine simply stuns, especially during night games; fully redone HD crowd audio leverages the vast resources of PS4; and much, much more.

Our goal every year is to capture as closely as possible, the excitement that takes place on the real world field and to show why baseball is the best sport in the world. Yeah I just now waited 30 minutes for customer service chat only to get told their is no one available to help me. Look Sony I get if there is a problem but don’t leave us all in the dark about it, man up and announce your mistakes and tell us what you’re gonna do to make it right.

Update: Due to unforeseen technical issues, MLB 14 The Show for PS4 is not currently available for download via the PlayStation Store. All parties are working as quickly as possible to remedy the issue. We’ll update this post as soon as a resolution is reached. Thank you for your continued patience.

I hate to pile on here Sony, but something’s gotta change. There’s been a clear pattern of ineptitude in regards to just about everything online related (especially the store) since the PSN launched. Pushing things like Day 1 Digital and PS Now seem to say that online is a focus and important to you, but yet this nonsense continues. Not to mention the fact that you now throw online play under the PS+ umbrella. When you do that, you raise the bar of expectancy of this stuff. This is clearly not rocket science, as other companies seem to have this figured out. Whether antiquated tech/procedures, or simply not the right people for the job, something is wrong and needs to be fixed. I love ya Sony, and have a high tolerance for these “first world problems”, but other’s may not.

This whole affair is completely unprofessional and a poor reflection of Sony and the game developer. The game was suppose to be released at midnight and 12 hours later it is still not available – do not promise what you are incapable of delivering.

Everybody that pre-ordered this should at least get a $5 credit or something for being lied too… It was ok when the download wasn’t ready at 12:01 est like was stated, but to wake up the next morning 11 hours later is unacceptable.

Some may not look at it this way, but we have been lied to. Seriously… Never put some specific time like 12:01 est… This is bad business because now you tell me that it may be ready anywhere from 1-4pm pst? And then at that time I have to wait for a 48 gig download before I’m able to play? If that’s not false advertisement, I don’t know what is…

Please do the right thing Sony and compensate these people, myself included. It’s only good business practice. And if i’m not compensated you can believe me that I”m never preordering anything on the PSN again… And this is my first time. If you can’t compensate us, at least up the bonus reward from 200 to 600 or something Sony!!

This was my first time digitally pre ordering on the ps store…. It will be my last. Horrible communication, false advertising, and now zero benefit to have access to download before the store update. I have spent thousands on Sony products since the ps3 launched, get your crap together Sony and compensate those who preordered.

After being disconnected through online chat 4 separate times (probably totaling 1hr), I ended up calling Sony support, just to get some clarification on the issue. Talked to a man named Alex, told me they are having issues with the game itself and that it should be available between 1PM and 5PM PST.

Don’t know if that checks out with anyone else, but that’s the best hope I have right now.

@111 you’re making assumptions. What kills me is how people are acting like Sony is doing this on purpose. “They lied to us”, it’s not like they intentionally did this. Technical issues arise, this kind of things happen. It’s the internet. It isnt like the folks behind this are sitting idle in their office chairs doing nothing. They are honestly trying to fix things. This is NOT what they wanted to happen. Honestly, with all my digital preorders, this is the only one that has taken this long (in my experience alone). Demanding some kind of compensation is ridiculous. Demanding compensation would make sense if the game wasnt available at all today or if the download was completely unplayable.

Why not use the messaging system in the PS4 to announce to customer’s that the game will not be posted. At least that way people don’t waste their time checking for the download. Total lack of appreciation for your customers.

I agree completely. This episode is quite definitely a lack of appreciation to Sony’s customers. A minor heads up in the form of a system message and we all could have gone to bed early. Disappointed Microsoft…opps, I mean Sony.

Gamestop sends me an email at 9am that my pre-order was cancelled. Call them up, they said they ‘ran out of stock on the digital delivery’…… so I lose my pre-order bonus.

They said I have to contact the manufacturer to correct the issue….

At least getting my refund was relatively painless … If you don’t mind being on hold for 40 minutes and talking to 2 CSRs that is.

I don’t mind there being a delay. Stuff happens. I want the digital copy so I don’t have to insert the disk simple as that. The Show is a game I play often enough I want to be able to have a season or RTTS and be able to chip away at it and enter sleep mode or jump into another game. Therefore the main advantage of the digital version is being disk-free however I still bought assuming I would also receive day one digital as advertised. I’m not expecting a refund nor would I want one but I think something should be offered, as in PSN credit or in game show currency like the GS preorder that was offered. Honestly anything less from Sony at this point is a disappointment. Whatever can’t wait to take the mound. I’m from STL we’re use to rain delays round here. Beyond!.

It is currently 10AM PST and still nothing. Just spoke with Sony Customer Support and I was told to wait for another 4 hours, until 2PM PST, to ‘see’ if I am able to download it. At that point, I should call back and ask for a refund.

Like most of you, it is not the basic fact of having to wait. I’m sure there are enough folks out there that if given the option, WOULD actually wait another day or so just to get the digital copy for it’s advantages. The kicker here is that Sony is purposely not supplying any form of communication so they can keep their consumer ( us ) waiting around and chomping at the bit so that they get the extra revenue from digital download. I would have already purchased my hard copy if I KNEW Sony would have given me a full refund for the digital copy by now. I’m not going to spend $120 on The Show just because Sony fails on their promise. (Digital + Hard Copy )

Worst of all, it’s the feeling that us consumers have, being taken advantage of by another corporation. I don’t want to make this political, but this is all too familiar…

A refund that gives you credit in the PSN store not a true refund where you get your money back. So that refund can only be used to give them more money. So refunds are little compensation, now do they owe us anything no. It would just show good faith and that they really feel bad about it. Hell I’d take free points for RttS, or maybe a Vita cross buy. The point is I could have bought the game and have been playing for hours if I’d have just done retail but I fell for the 12:01 Am.

This is pretty inexcusable for such a huge company, I mean Steam never has this problem.

Sadly, this will be another example of a HUUUGE company shrugging their collective shoulders and saying, “Oh well.”, when they should offer SOMETHING to customers. I’m sure there will be DLC, give something away for free. Or a credit. Something to get us back in our good graces, but I’m sure there’s a huge FU shrug going on somewhere.
