PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • I am losing interest in my PS4. I understand the ideal of these smaller games, but they are not worth the price of a 400 buck system. Kings could have been play on a super nes, I want big beautiful games and i am not seeing them anytime soon. It is sad really.

  • Am I the ONLY one who thinks this is dumb?

Ok, I can understand that you can only play the PS Plus Instant Game collection if you are a paid subscriber, and you are locked out once your membership is done.

But to only have a “month” to play them, that sucks. I don’t have a lot of time, and I have pretty much downloaded all the PS+ games since May 2013 into a digital backlog that I am slowly picking through.

So what happens to the rest of my Instant Games collection after this “update”? Will they slowly expire before my membership ends? This is stupid.

  • EDIT: I read this:

Games will no longer last more than one month in the Instant Game Collection.*

    * = (Note: This means that they will only be able to be “bought” during that one-month window. You’ll still be able to re-download them infinitely with an active subscription.)

So it’s going to be kinda like Xbox Games with Gold, where you have a smaller window to “activate” these games to your account, but will last the entirety of your subscription.

Phew! I was scared there for a moment.

  • Ultimate_Atheist

Wow. Not much for me, here. I already bought Trine 2 (PS3), Terreria doesn’t exactly tickle my fancy, I couldn’t give a damn less about any Aports game (especially Basketball). Plus, I cannot stand LeBrown Joke. Just seeing his image on ANYTHING is a major turn off. I’d love to try out Pixel Junk Shooter Ultimate, but alas.. I don’t have a PS4 yet (awaiting on the PS 4 Slim). I guess I’ll just hop onto Sly Cooper and maybe download Mutant Mudds for my PS Vita. Oh, well.. At least this Month isn’t as bad as recent ones.

  • I love my ps4 and this new news about the even better benefits with ps plus makes the ps4 an even better console.

However, I also own 2 ps3s and one of the best features of my ps3 is it’s ability to stream digital content from my other shared devices.

When is play station going to bring back dlna and music streaming? It’s been more than 7 months since it was promised to be looked at and the lack of news by Sony is disheartening.

I have three TVs in my house and I was planning to purchase a ps3 for the third one. However, I would much rather spend the extra money for a ps4 rather than invest in the old generation again.

But, I can’t justify buying a ps4 for the final tv, if it can’t deliver all of the features that I really wasn’t, and quite honestly need, in order to make it the hub of my entertainment centre.

Can you please provide us with a definitive date on when dlna streaming and video playback services will be returned to the ps4?

Right now, that’s the only area where you aren’t dominating the xbox one.

  • WOW, Sweet. Thanks for the Sports Games. It’s about time. The soccer game was kinda lame but I was just glad we got some kinda of sports game, Then you bust out NBA2k14 the best basketball game ever. Then Sly is cross buy. Sweetness. Don’t listen to all the haters. There are plenty of people who like sports games and it’s nice to see the love. Maybe you could get EA to put NCAA football in IGC.

  • Cuz NA buy less indies and EU plays more indies this is why we get games like that each months

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ smoothboarder540

If Indies claimed the spot that mid-level devs once occupied, it only means the consumers preferred the indie games over the mid-grades. Nothing wrong with that. Competition in the marketplace is a good thing for everyone. It’s up to the devs who got knocked down to pick themselves back up and return with a better product.

I don’t see how you can blame the indies for being successful.

  • Free NBA 2k14! Plus Sly Cooper, man I can live with that!

  • This is an awful idea, and it’s going to hurt game sales. Now that PS+ games are limited, we can’t play them whenever we want, we’ll have to play them within that month. So, there’s going to be new game releases that we’ll have to pass on to be able to play the PS+ games. Then, if there’s ever a month of games we don’t want, we might go pick up said game, but by that point there will be cheaper, used copies. It’s also baffling you would do something like this after Microsoft announces a Kintect-less X1. It’s also strange that you would do this when Microsoft gives away games for free forever. This is a horrible idea, and it’s going to ultimately cut into profits and hurt us gamers as a whole, since we’re now basically forced to play these games.

  • Will the Ultra Street Fighter IV upgrade be available at a discount for Plus members? I’ve ordered the USF4 disc for the costume collection. However, I would buy the digital upgrade on June 3rd if it is available for $9.99 or less.

  • You guys aren’t understanding, all the games are available at the first Tuesday of the month. And are swapped out in the first Tuesday of the next month. As long as you purchase them you don’t have to download it and it stays on your account until you are ready to play or what not. Nothing is changing except when the release and get removed from Igc. They are making it easier. If you purchase a free game on plus, it stays on your account as long as you have plus.

  • I doubt anyone from sony will actually read this but, I just got a vita yesterday and it’s missing some things that upset me:
    1. not all games have screenshots, and most put their stupid company information on it as an overlay. I understand why, but it ruins the screenshot. At least give an option to not save the screenshot with it (or maybe even HUDless screenshots straight from the framebuffer? that would be awesome)
    2. screenshot quality is AWFUL. Super compressed JPGs? gross. You can do better than that, storage is (sadly) at a high premium, but I can set aside the extra 100-500kb or so per screenshot if they were uncompressed png files or uncompressed jpg files.
    3. UI is pretty responsive, but there should be some sort of swipe lock screen, or maybe vertical keyboard entry (keyboard is too spread out for my short thumbs, flipping the vita on the side for typing in text would be great if possible
    4. ps3 has a learning dictionary, but the psv seems to lack that.

anyways that’s my complaints about the software atm. I hope someone takes them into consideration instead of ignoring them to the ether.

  • I love sony i have all the gaminhg consoles of sony from ps1 to ps vita and ps4 .i really love love love ps vita even more than my ps 4.please can you do something about wipeout, uga and gravity rush.please sony please and i also thanks sony for making ps vita 2000.i also have more than 70 titles for my vita.my favourite thing is ps plus survice on vitaa.i love my vita.and my whole family has vita

  • @ExHaseo:

I believe you may have misunderstood what these changes mean. From your post, it sounds like you believe these games, which as of July will all come at once on the first Tuesday each month, will only be playable that month, which is not the case. Once these games are downloaded they are yours for the entirety of your subscription, however now, instead of waiting for the offerings that interest you, you’ll have access at the beginning of the month. XBOX Live Gold does exactly the same thing as of June, with games being tied to continuing subscriptions, only with fewer and, in my opinion, less quality selections. Some games, as of late have disappeared from IGC within a couple weeks, this new change gives us a month to download titles, and the entirety of our subscription to play them, so I fail to see the downside, other than the loss of the evergreens. I hope this post helped clear up any misconceptions you may have had regarding the new changes.

  • terraria only on vita?

  • yeah you still , idk retain the digital rights or whatever to any games youve downloaded til your subcription ends, and honestly i dont mind nba2k14 most of 2k’s games are pretty awesome and i can guarantee the soundtrack is gonna be great, my only issue with it is why would i sit inside playing a basketball video game in june when i have like 6 basketball courts 50 feet from my house, what i really have a issue with is this sly cooper micky mouse bullspit, i’m sorry im just not one of those 35 year olds who enjoys playing children’s games

  • 567 continued and its a platformer i HATE PLATFORMERS SO MUCH i turned off my nintendo like 15 minutes into mario cause i realized all i was gonna be doing is running to the right of the scrren for hours on end, i hope its not as stupid as that stupid puppet game that that came out last month or the even dumber LBP, “what do i do?” you run around and put stickers on stuff! “gee sounds like a blast” =^P plbthhhhhhhhhhhhhht

  • I’m a very happy ps4/ps3/vita owner (plus subscriber). Just when you think this amazing service couldn’t get any better. Keep up the good work.

  • @GStylez1980 The point I was trying to prove exactly. Thanks for mentioning that. It was THQ’s fault to think that uDraw tablets would even sell on PS3. Luckily I bought one for only $10 after they went bankrupt. It’s not a bad piece of technology, but it was way too overpriced.

@smoothboarder540 I don’t think you understand what is going on and have completely missed the point. Indie games only take weeks to make and cost a few hundred dollars. AAA games take months and cost a million dollars. That’s why I said PS4 would have gotten nothing. If indie games stop being made because of idiot children like ccrogers here not wanting them, then PS4 sales would have been even more less than right now. Be patient and you’ll get what you want sooner or later. For now, either deal with the indies or don’t get AAA games at all. Your choice.

  • I think for$50 a yr 56 games some of which are 60$ alone how can any1 complain good mix on games across multiple platforms sony takes care of there people

  • Anything on youtube app system doesn’t support it on browser any1?

  • HEY HEY HEY WAIT A SECOND!! We already have Sly Cooper for PS3!!! It was included in the vita version from last month!! :(

  • I am not looking forward to pixel junk ultimate, should have just called it Ultimate Junk._._.Did I actually pay 400 bucks for a time machine ? Because its like I’m back in the 80’s with these 8 bit junkers. except I would not have put a quarter into PJU

  • TheSunnyMuffins

why can’t we get dragon’s crown for playstation plus people in europe are lucky

  • I have to admit, I am sick of the Indie games for PS+. I realize it’s early in the cycle, but c’mon. The ***ONLY*** reason I justify paying the Mandatory PS+/Online sub is for the Triple A Titles. Keep the Indy garbage, I don’t want them. I am a very unhappy customer since I bought my PS4. Nothing but Indy games rammed down my throat, Severe lack of Triple A Content including 1st party which makes it even more disturbing, No 3-D, no YouTube, No MP3/CD support, no External HDD and not even a word about all of this which I constantly see Many others also complain about and we just get continually ignored. Been a Playstation owner since 95-96 and I have never been so let down and disappointed.
I basically have a 400.00 brick sitting around collecting dust and other than sharing and a slight graphics upgrade is pretty much inferior to the PS-3. PS-3 has good games for PS+, PS3 has 3-D, Has MP3/4/CD support, etc etc etc. PS-4 has slightly better graphics, a nicer controller, and it can share to the 2 friends on your FaceBook that might actually care about a stupid game clip. Really sucks

  • So when are the new games going to come out in the PS Store? The usual mid month release for the last time right?

  • Come on Sony ANOTHER SPORT GAME?? why do you guys put up sport games? NOBODY HERE LIKES THEM it’s completely ridiculous how you go from giving out amazing free games to giving out games no one wants. i guess Xbox is going to win the best free games for this month. they are giving out DS1 and another game i can’t remember.

  • I’m with most of the other vita owners commenting here, the past few months have been just not worth it. I doubt I’ll be renewing my plus until there’s a bit better of a selection instead of $5 indie games while ps3/4 gets AAA titles.

It’s pretty disappointing considering some of the momentum vita had been gaining lately.

  • So were going from three games a month to two and most of the time out of the three one maybe good now were down to two and there both going to be not worth the effort ……won’t be renewing ……I’ll just buy the games that keep my interest …instead of playing worthless ones that has been dropped in last two months……..

  • So the games now show up as “Timed Trial”?

  • so…tha free games suck and they go away eventually? not go away as in unable to download but like….say I download my free game for tha month….then after a certain time I will no longer be able to play it?
if that is so why are they not called temporary free games? very misleading, disappointing and tricky…but I am sure this has been said before and no one cares
I just got my ps4 a couple months ago….haven’t done to much with it yet…but I kept seeing 3 games a month for ps3…and was just about to get a ps3….but if tha games go away eventually….never mind not buying

  • Geez, why is it Terraria and Mutant Mudds? Good games in their own right but Euro PSN gets Dragon’s Crown for free this month. Very very disappointed to not see it coming to North American PSN

  • When do they put out these games and take away pes and the other free ones from may?????

  • Capt_Slippyfist

I am so stoked my wife and I have 2 games to play together for free on PS4 this month! Playstation, you guys freakin’ rock!

“…we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. – from this post

You’ll be able to *play* the games as long as you have Plus. Just like always. The only difference is the time given to “purchase” the game(s) goes from “whatever random interval” to “a whole month.”

  • ThumbsOfSteel74

This month (June) Latin America is getting “The Wolf Among Us- Episodes 2 y 3 (PS3)” instead of Sly, which they got last month.

    blog(dot)latam(dot)playstation(dot)com/2014/05/29/playstation-plus-2-juegos-por-mes-en-ps4-ps3-ps-vita/

  • Thanks so much SEN i’ve felt left out at the end of every month, unless it was a vita release.I left this comment multiple times. So i’ll start off with saying thanks for spreading out the igc. But also for including a second title for the month, That is AWESOME!! thanks again guys keep up the good work!!!!

  • All i can say that ive been disappointed about the game choices they make for both ps4 and ps3 they need to start putting better selections like less indie games for ps4 and start bring some ps3 games to the ps3 at least give us that i have a year subscription for ps plus and been disappointed of the selection of monthly games given to the playstation community come on guys step it up

  • 1st of all…Sly Thieves in Time is one of the GOTYs of 2013.Incredible game.

2 games for PS4 wasn’t needed for real…I don’t even have a PS4 and when I eventually get one my backlog will be insane….and for those who rely on Plus for their games…hum…I pity you.

Whatever for free I’ll take almost anything.I’ll be happy with that NBA.

  • Reading this gives me a Christmas-y feeling. Thank you everyone for making PS Plus possible!

  • I hope SONY will announce more PS+ games at E3 that will replace Uncharted 3,LBP Karting and Resogun.
Just like they did last year.

  • @GamerHamza321

I take it you didn’t read the above blog post. Those titles won’t be getting replaced, and instead, will be phased out.

  • CaptnBrainslide

Ugh, really not happy with this format change for the IGC. In short, it means we get at minimum 12+3=15 fewer PS3 games per year, and it looks like most of the losses will be in retail AAA games. Implied but not stated, we also lose the Vita evergreen games with no replacement, though those have been there without change since the Vita’s start . In return we get 12-1=11 more PS4 games per year, which at least for now will be $14.99 or less indie PSN games. In addition there is no excitement in getting a new game pretty much every Tuesday when you put them al at the start of the month. Overall the Plus lineup is most definitely worse for this change than it was before except for PS4-only owners unless there is a big qualitative leap in what games show up.

  • Super pumped for Trine 2, Mutant Mudds and Terraria! Thanks for the sweet games! Its great owning all 3 platforms.

  • Another question:

Why all these indie games or games that came out not even a month ago?

Why not games that are clearly low sellers on the market that aren’t shovelware games? Steam will do things like put games on sale that are selling poorly or their sales numbers have dropped, which then shows a massive increase in everyone buying the game on discount, followed by a still large number of people who buy it post-discount. This would help sales overall, especially for older games.

Furthermore, why is it only PS+ that gets sales at all?

Finally, where are my sales or free games with PS+ for RPG style games say for the ps3 that have been out quite some time now?

  • I have a quick question concerning your new policy of keeping the free PS Plus titles up for a month only. Does this also mean that you will now be putting all of the month’s releases on the first Tuesday of the month or will you still be staggering the releases? This would mean that the last release would now only be up for a week. Could you please clarify this for me? Thanks in advance for your response.

  • Wow, I know sports aren’t for everyone but I’m surprised this many people dislike sports/ sports games in general. I usually buy games like NBA 2K (and other sports games) day 1 but this is still a good addition even though I already have it. My only complaint is that they should have added NBA 2K14 a month or 2 earlier for trophy hunters since the platinum will be unavailable very soon. Sports in general are popular so their video games will be also, regardless if they’re recycled yearly and it’s good the IGC shows love to them from time to time.

  • So we are no longer having 18 games on the list to get for free anymore? I hate to say this but that was a bonus for me… 6 games at the start of the month, yay, but losing every other possible game… Oh well… I will just shut up and deal, I like PS Plus and Playstation is still superior to Xbox One…

  • Also, this month’s lineup is okay, but it isn’t much to me ^^;;; To those who like the games there again, Hooray, but I am definitely skipping out on most anything but Sly Cooper.
