PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • I always read a lot of complaints. I did complain, too. But when I rethink about it you always have the choice to subscribe or not to subscribe. Also, if you are clever, you simply buy the subscription for $30. There are more than 1 opportunity each year to do that. And you can buy several years of PS+ for that price. When you calculate the price each month, you spent less than $3 each and can rent a whole bunch of games!

So instead of complaining about PS+ I’ve come to the conclusion a long time ago that PS+ is the most awesome game renting system EVER! That is why the competition copies what you do! Keep on with the update! I don’t complain about the massive indie titles! Those games are good as well. I hope we see some retail games hitting the Vita and PS4 from time to time though! Because you should always try hard for your fan base!

  • Gamers are aware what other gamers are getting each month in the world. There will always be comparison. Therefore you have to expect complains! People are not happy about indies or the type of game or whatever.
That said! Congratulations and thank you very much for evolving PS+ to the best renting service ever! Thanks PlayStation!
Now to complain a little bit XD! I want to see more exclusive games for PlayStation Systems on E3!!!!

Me as a gamer I care about new exclusive retail games in the first place! Not PS Now to play old games and not about VR hardware!

Show MS that you have so many exciting new games coming to PS4! And not just the ones we already know they are going to be released because at the moment I have enough fingers to count them… :)

  • @232 dragon dogma was in either october or november that was 7-8 months if you dont see what he means now please tell me how does that equal a rpg ever month?

  • Not a bad month.
Plus actually worked out ths time between sales and IGC.
Might have bought Terraria and Mutant Muds had they went on sale first, but don’t mind playing them for free.

Too bad Trine 2 is not Vita.

And I would like more cross compatibility for past titles.
I will not buy a PS4 untill you do.

  • @249 I can’t agree more! With digital all the way external is the best solution! With USB 3.0 it should work fast enough. 2.5 inch drive is very limited. A 1TB or 2TB can be full very fast! Games are not getting less big these days XD

  • Personally the worst update this year, this last three months have been really bad.

  • Quick questions: Does the monthly rollout signify a focus on the IGC as the primary component of Playstation Plus? Is the program undergoing a slight shift in North America for closer parity with EU Plus? Thanks for your hard work, Plus team!

  • Terraria for PS Vita is amazing. I’ve been wanting a sale on that game and for it to come out for free is awesome. Thanks so much!

And the PS4 games are looking pretty good too!

  • Thank you very much for the change to release all games right at the start of a month! This should have done a long time ago and it is less confusing to newcomers!

  • @256 seems like i prefer the monthly roll out so i can get access to what i want faster

  • I see I set my expectations a little too high. Oh well. Live and learn. Not as impressive as last June, but good news for my PS4.

  • 2 games is awesome! but i’m mad i bought sly cooper and the other entire collection on ebay 2 days ago.. and now its free for ps+

  • Not a bad update. Terraria seems the best to me. Looking forward to it.

  • Also, for those complaining about the whopping TWO sports games on Plus in the past year, please be aware that far more people play sports games than play RPGs. NBA 2K14 is a giant hit both critically and commercially. I don’t care much for basketball, but don’t act like it’s not a big game. A little balance is nice to see. Sorry that the IGC isn’t suited to only your tastes.

  • This is great news!!! I was getting a little tired of the weekly formula anyway. I’d much rather have them dump the games on you all at once and choose what you want instead of having to wait all month for one or two games.

  • Really disappointed, where are the AAA games of this month???

  • Trine on PS4 has amazing 3D , if you got a 3DTV. I’m stoked to try all the games. Very much appreciated. You guys just keep it rolling and keep up the great work. Now go kick e3’s ass.

  • this sucks. i have a vita and my big anouncement is 2games i wouldnt buy normally.i want real games, not pseudo smartphone games. europe gets dragon’s crown, i get the shaft!

  • I already have Sly and don’t care about NBA games. The rest are good! :)

  • Kevin_David_Sosa

It should of been terraria for ps3 instead of sly , i already have all sly cooper games

  • i hope we dont start a sportgames streak like last years fighting game one, i really prefer variety.

  • I have to say I’m disappointed on two levels here. For one I like logging in once a week to get the free games, getting them all at once isn’t as fun imo, I’d rather have a steady stream

Secondly and more importantly the Vita line up sucks, again. Can we PLEASE stop getting so many indie games? Those make up like 80% of what we’ve been getting recently for Vita. Europe is getting cool stuff like Muramasa Rebirth and Dragons Crown and we keep getting generic indie platformer #234. I just generally don’t enjoy them but even if I did we’re getting too many of them and budget games. They drive the value down, most of them have been on sale for $1.50 multiple times by the time they’re put in the IGC

  • I give up on PS VITA.

I’m a really huge fan of it, but i’m done.
Gonna wait until E3 and, if nothing significant shows up, i’m going to sell it.
It is not fair what is happening to Vita..

    Ps Vita is dead.

    “The traditional economy doesn’t apply”

  • Like the changes. Would like more details about the transition and how the IGC looks for the year as a whole. Great job on trying too meet everyone’s needs with the diverse selection of games made available.
Makes sense to have Indy games dominate the PS4/Vita IGC. However I believe work can still be done on the PS3 offerings. I would REALLY love to have Mirrors Edge on the IGC. It’s old enough to not burden you for offering it and it will allow me to play a 7 year old game without having to spend $30 for it.

  • Would this be a bad time to point out to everyone that at no point anywhere in this post does it say they’re phasing out the core yearly IGC titles?

Seems to be a lot of people complaining about that, but they haven’t stated that that part of the IGC is being done away with, only that games that have been on the IGC for a while are being phased out.

    Reading comprehension is fun!

  • “+ Don Mesa on May 6th, 2014 at 5:22 pm said:

Thanks for your support. As for the big games:

The economics simply don’t work with the traditional process. We have to do something different to get AAA games on Vita. We accomplished it to a certain degree by making PS4 games work on Vita via remote play. PS Now will be another way, streaming PS3 games on Vita. I can’t wait until PS Now is out on Vita – I hope you’ll try out the experience and let me know what you think.”

In other words, no exclusives AAA for Vita.

    R.I.P Vita!
    We lovED you!

  • DANG IT! I JUST bought Terraria!! For the second time too, lolz. All in all, I am excited for these new changes. :D

  • Loving the new PS4 support, don’t necessarily care about Trine but interested to check out Pixeljunk Shooter. Perfectly happy with indies on Vita as I don’t play them most other places. However would have loved Dragon’s Crown for Vita. Hope for some awesome E3 announcements, keep up the good work!

  • PS+ is the best thing to happen to games in a long time! Thanks!!

  • As usual, too many whiners.

  • I love the idea of 2 games for each console but still this month still wont be great. It is the best month so far for this year for me because of sly and nba and i might check out trine 2 but i not stoke for this month. Heres hoping for july which is my birthday. It would be an awesome birthday gift to see deadpool and or tomb raider for ps4.

  • I feel like the Vita is neglected on the US Plus when compared to JP or EU… Since that’s the system I use the most I don’t think I will renew my Plus membership… Cloud saving is nice but not enough to keep me as a subscriber…

  • Hey John Koller, just a heads up on NBA 2K14.

Depending on when you guys give us the game in June, will determine if you can still get the platinum or not. If you release this game on plus at the end of June, the platinum would not be obtainable as the NBA season/playoffs are over.

Another Day, Another Win – Win 5 NBA Today matchups.

  • I kind of like the idea… Get it so at once. No waiting each week wondering if that week will be the game you wanted or not.

Thank you for the diversity. Being plus I get to try games I otherwise might have not.

Would love a psvita/ps4 bundle though… Trying to hold out on that.

  • Not all that thrilled with this offering. Can’t win all the time though. I hope you guys are still announcing new core titles at E3!

  • This is definitely the fairest way to handle it, and I’m really happy about the choices for this month’s PS4 titles. Thanks for being great!

  • yay! really excited for trine 2: complete story. i loved trine 2 on the ps3, and the complete story is definitely on my list. i’m pretty surprised that it’s on ps+ this early because it’s only been on sale once for half off. honestly, i was just waiting for it to go on sale again, but having it on ps+ isn’t bad. if it’s anything like trine 2, it will go on sale very often. actually, trine 2 has been $4.99 for the past two weeks :P

i’ll grab pixel junk as well because that looks fun. might get sly cooper, but i have to research it a little first. i also appreciate the balance of games across the platforms and those games being available right away. it’s a step in the right direction.

  • I certainly dont want sports every month because if it is a sport i dont like or cannot see well enough to play then im out a game, and may have to wait for the one i do want. a sports game every 4-5 months would be ok or just call em extra. i’d like to see nfl blits, mlb the show, wwe related stuff (not real but classified as sports.)

if you dont get $50+ value from sales through out the year the games arent free. its a service you pay for, but you cant control what sony manages to secure for + AAA ps4 games on plus just wont happen any time soon.

i like “some” of the indies like thomas was alone, and lone survivor. i could care less about most tho.@shpryuken, dogma came in november, no rpg’s for ps3 since that i know of. i dont count lone survivor. sadly i cant afford a vita or ps4…

also guys some of the games arent cheap! bioshock infinite, pes, puppeteer, nba, sly cooper thieves in time id think… be greatful for the value. granted not everyone likes sports, but its needed for those who do, so we shouldnt say “stop with the sports”

  • Nothing for me this month…

Cant you just give some good game on VITA like UK did?

  • Forgot to mention I’m glad we’ll finally be getting all our Plus games at once every month. It’s long overdue.

  • Dragon’s Crown on EU plus for VITA!

Ok, now i give up !

  • > Love pixels? Fond of platformers? Is there a special place in your heart for the 8-bit and 16-bit era?

Not anymore, no. I wish they would stop already.

  • After checking out the trailer for Terraria, I’m looking forward to playing it the most. And Sly Cooper second.

  • awesome month!!!

  • I’m excited for Terraria, also to try NBA2k14.

Any chance there will be a way to upgrade to the ps4 version of NBA for cheaper? It is kind of hard to play the ps3 version with a much better ps4 version available.

  • The platform parity was expected and, ultimately, it’s a good thing for the brand. I appreciate that the guesswork is being taken out of figuring when games will be taken off of the service.

Also, I like the June lineup MUCH more than I did the May lineup. I much prefer a basketball game to a soccer game.

  • and Dragon’s Crown?… Bye PS4, PS3, Vita and PS Plus… Hi Steam!

  • This is absolutely the worst month ever for Vita owners. Granted, I gave up on the IGC being worth a damn on the Vita months and months ago, but, this is a slap in the face.

BOTH GAMES are indie garbage. BOTH GAMES came out on iOS years ago.

Pro tip; if a game is available on Android/iOS, we do NOT WANT IT IN THE IGC.

I suppose the PS3 offerings are better. Any game in the 2K franchise is definitely galaxies better than an old Nintendo eShop title.

Disappointed that you won’t get over your obsession with shoveling more indie crapware on your loyal subscribers. NO ONE WANTS THESE GAMES.

The Vita desperately needs an injection of excitement and life, and this is not the solution.

  • I do have to say I think Terraria is a great game on the PC when I have played it, though I am personally jealous of the EU collection when it comes to the PS Plus program for the Vita. This month they have an amazing action RPG (Muramasa Rebirth) and next month they have Dragons Crown which is a great crossbuy value in my opinion too. I am personally just curious about how you determine the selection in each region of EU vs US and can I switch my region….. Just kidding…. Kinda :)

  • Worst than a terrible add at igc is this news.
Just when I renewd my signature.
    Regrete, just regret.
