Destiny’s PlayStation-Exclusive Content Detailed

During last week’s PlayStation E3 2014 Press Conference, you might remember the illustrious Adam Boyes noting that PlayStation owners were set to receive a ton of exclusive Destiny content — literally too much to detail in the show itself. Now that the E3 hubbub has died down, I asked Bungie and the PlayStation elders to share those details right here on PlayStation.Blog for the first time.

At launch, PS4 and PS3 owners will get exclusive access to a unique co-op Strike located on Mars, an exclusive competitive map, and a slew of exclusive guns, gear, and ships. Read on for the full details below. Oh, and if you tried out Destiny’s PS4-exclusive First Look Alpha over the weekend, let us know what you think in the comments below!

The Dust Palace Strike: An exclusive three-player cooperative Strike that can be played with friends or match made. You’ll track a Cabal extraction team through the husks of an ancient human skyscraper, the Dust Palace, buried in the shifting dunes of Mars and face a new enemy, the Psion Flayers.

The Exodus Blue Competitive Multiplayer Map: A mid-sized Crucible arena that pairs perfectly with Control and Skirmish game modes. The Exodus Blue, a long-dead vessel, once brought hope and humanity to worlds beyond Earth. Here, Guardians challenge one another, forging a new hope and future in the fires of the Crucible.

For the Warlock class, Manifold Seeker armor that was built to help Warlocks survive the secret realms of the Vex.

Weapons

The Monte Carlo, an exotic assault rifle, is a handcrafted showpiece with a sleek look that masks the cruel reality of its function — the efficient elegant delivery of war against any who would tarnish its legacy. Upgrades increase the weapon’s “hip fire” effectiveness and boost melee cool down, providing a firm grounding for close range domination.

The Hawkmoon, an exotic hand cannon, is a true gunslinger’s weapon — a smooth sidearm that makes every bullet count with intricate “hawk feather” etchings carved into the weapon’s silvered barrel. Damage boosts increase the combat effectiveness, making it a formidable weapon.

Ships

“Aurora Wake”

A hull lined with arcane instruments, crafted by a circle of Warlocks – gifting the ship with a preternatural sense for the strange.

“Crypt Hammer”

A deep-strike insertion variant, built to carry Guardians safely through contested space. Carries hardpoints once used to hold Suros TL-SEAD anti-radiation missiles.

“Outrageous Fortune”

A rugged, versatile explorer for those ready to gamble everything in search of ancient secrets and alien power.

  • I’ve been waiting for this game since it was announced! And now I get to look sweet for being a part of this great Playstation Nation!

  • I was looking forward to some God of War or other PS titles items to appear in Destiny as exclusives. But this will do I guess.

  • Very happy to participate in the destiny alpha. but there is way too much backtracking in the mission set up.

This is a Cheap MMO. this game has a call of duty/halo multiplayer, evolve and zombies-like co op, defiance-like single player.
I own all these other games, why would I purchase a game that combines all of these into a single game that is still missing 50% of the game and gameplay? (“SPACE FLIGHT & COMBAT!”).

This game is not worth 500 million. I’m very doubtful that without micro transactions or a subscription or dlc model you will ever get that money back
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKE BUNGIE! Never waste this kind of cash or time on a game that can never be successful because it does not do anything any other software on the market can do. Look at what 10 guys from hello games can do, no mans sky will make 500 million before you ever do. When making a game ask yourself 3 questions, 1) has it been done before? 2) is anyone making or doing anything like we are making? 3) what do gamers want? This last one is always changing but with proper research and study it’s possible to figure it out.

  • I enjoyed the swoop bike, it sounds like a Speeder bikes from Star Wars. Gunplay was good – but you need to add L1 R1 for those who are use to call of duty. The character customization was fairly deep and enjoyable. There was little to no Lagg in my entire experience. I hope that’s how it will be when the game is released. I also hope that you could enjoy this game offline, but I don’t think that’s possible to play single-player offline. The environments are very detailed but lacking in anything interesting.

I’m so sorry to be the one to give you this feedback, but it’s true and it’s how I feel. I really wanted to love this game and be sucked into its universe but it never did that for me.
I look forward to being proved wrong! I would appreciate the opportunity to try out the beta, but I don’t think I will ever buy this game or any dlc in its current form.

Bottom line: I want it, but I don’t need it; I like it, but I don’t love it.

  • I did play the Alpha and it was AMAZING!!! But the cap at 3 players for things is ridiculous. It needs to be 4.

  • @avatarguy

I hate people like you. You think the Alpha was a damn demo. It’s not. It was an Alpha. The game isn’t even Beta yet. There’s a ton of content out there that wasn’t in the Alpha and even more gameplay. If you are honestly going to base your feelings on the game from an Alpha, then you are stupid.

  • Epic amazing fun!

The controls are amazing. Visuals make the scenery look realistic and believable with huge areas to explore (literally spending hours exploring just one map, and always finding something new). The rpg element adds hours of replay value with lots of experimentation and customization. Armor gets upgrades, character unlocks new upgradable abilities, as well as the many weapons you find can be upgraded and customized.

Voice acting is superb. Multiplayer modes have fun for everyone. I love to play pvp, but I always preferred coop gameplay. And its all here. pvp is solid fun just like halo always was, but with added customization due to the rpg element, and “magical” powers innate to your character’s class.

If there is anything bad about the alpha is that I wish that the free exploration missions would be a bit more diverse. Everything else is perfect. All of my experience was lag free. Framerate was always smooth, and I never experienced a single frame drop.

All I can say is, Bungie, epic work as always, this game is shaping up to be epic! And to fellow gamers, no matter the console you have, get this game when it comes out!

  • The Alpha won me over! I just hope Destiny is as big as they make it sound with hundreds of weapons and variations, armor sets, and missions. A bit concerned that the game itself won’t seem as massive as it promises to be. For instance, I see there being plenty of variations in the weapons and armor, statistically, but will they still fire mostly the same and all have comparable skins? There’s not a whole lot of diversity in the weapons and I suspect there may be a lot of repeat weapons. For instance, chances are everyone will mostly use the same basic fully automatic assault rifle in one of its countless variations. Time will tell if there really is a lot of variety in how the guns and armor look and feel. Still, I’m sure it will be an enjoyable game.

  • Excellent is an understatement for how impressed I was playing Destiny. Anyone sure it’s just an “Alpha?” Lol. I feel it’s much further along, but whatever the case…I like the polished feel to it already and I only had minor bugs show up. The one that often happened was enemies not attacking. My team of friends were able to just stare at them and easily kill them when we felt like it. Seemed to happen more often after an objective is complete.

  • Strikes are VERY FUN I really enjoyed that alpha this game changed my mind.

  • Man I loved Alpha! Totally gonna preorder for the BETA now.

  • The Alpha is pretty damn sweet…first it was only 4 places and 2 were the same… BUT

HUGE, Massive giant ass maps… These maps are so big and so open with no load times… the area that is there is on a scale like we have not seen before…

I can’t wait to play this game… preorder it off the PSN…

This game is going to change the way we play FPS.

MP maps were excellent as well large a lot of fun to play…

IF you are on the fence about this game don;t be, it is well worth the risk the alpha was the best thing I have played in a long time… put BF4 and the BF Hardline Beta to SHAME…. EA needs to take its head out of its butt and look at this game…

the alpha ran, played, worked, and more stable then anything EA has put out in years….

Starwars battlefront… is a lost cause…because Destiny is going to be set the bar so high Chewbacca is going to krap kittens..

  • Overrated game…but exclusive content for PS is something to appreciate….may try this game out in the future.Beta for PS3?….for Plus members maybe?…without the need of annoying sign up?….that would be appreciated.

  • Mmmm, sweet. <3 Sony!

  • Best beta ever!! I can’t wait to have this game!! This is my fav FPS !! I am not really into them but playing Destiny awoken that and I played Alpha till dusk till dawn. Thank you for the PlayStation-Exclusive Content sounds awesome!!

  • If the game had a third person option, either exclusive or otherwise, I’d care. But otherwise it’s just another bland FPS.

  • The alpha turned thus game to my most anticipated game of all. I will be preordering it before the beta. I can’t believe how good this game is.

  • can’t wait for the actual release! the game was awesome in alpha ( i’ve been there, made a few friends in the alpha ) i’m looking forward for more content so i can double jump all the way to the moon with my Hunter!!

  • Had a fun time with the Alpha.steel wish i could play in third person.Other than that really enjoyed playing the Alpha. It was fun exploreing in the game enjoyed playing as a hunter. Thanks Bungie.

  • Had a blast with the beta, however if I were to critique some things they would be:

    1) items that you need to identify cant be done while on mission. you have to go to tower which means you cant upgrade your gear on the fly (unless its white gear)

    2) having to pull out the ghost to see where to go. This stops you from sprinting but more to my point; a waypoint icon is small and usually never in the way. I dont think it would be a crime to show waypoints all the time or have the ability to call out your ghost to follow to keep it up. I know there were a few times i kind of wish I could pull it out and use its flash light as well.

    3) I mainly played the warlock and had trouble figuring out how to really arc the super charge ability and the grenade to be most defective. I think it could be beneficial to have a different style of cursor to display when performing those abilities. A good reference I think could be gears of war. Its not over the top, but it gives you an idea of the arc and the distance.

  • Yeah, I agree with most, the Alpha was great. I’m excited to see the exclusive content but also agree with some of the other posts – it’s great to get exclusive ships but if the Alpha is any indication, you can’t really do anything with them. I would also like to see some more drastic variation in the ships rather than just paintjobs. Looks like it’s going to be a great game!

  • Had a blast with the Alpha, can’t wait till September 9th.

  • Is their going to be a collectors edition?

  • I loved the Alpha. I went out and pre-ordered “Destiny” the next day.

  • This looks awesome, the Alpha was so much fun. Now the waiting starts…

  • I wasn’t planning on buying this game, then I played the alpha…wow! What an amazing game. I cannot wait for the beta, let alone the full release!!

  • @103 You’ll be eating your foot by the end of the year :) Destiny is going to be huge.

  • September 9th the system and color I was hoping for will be mine. The game I’ve been looking forward to the most will be mine too. It’s destiny all this happened.

  • Before playing the Alpha, I was still on-the-fence about getting this game. After having played it, I’m buying day one. This game I shaping up VERY nicely. The only thing I can think of that I’m a little bummed about is that it seems like there isn’t much dialogue with NPC’s. But other than that, I love this game!

  • Finally, Bungie is PlayStation Biased! Take that Halo! Take that Xbox!

  • Now this is where its at the pre-order deal which is just sensational I like this and totally enjoying the pre alpha beta.

  • This game was barely on my radar before the Alpha. Now I’m fully onboard! Can’t wait for Sept. 9th. Still debating if I’m going to hit up the Beta or wait until full release. Oh, and I agree with everyone’s take on Dinklage’s voice acting. Hopefully this was just a “place-holder” for the actual voice that will be in the final build of the game.

  • Honestly I wasn’t that interested in Destiny, but after playing the Alpha I’m sold. Can’t wait for the beta!

  • Seems to be working after I e-mailed Them and Ranted here. Thanks Internet God For All MY Power };)

  • Does the word “exclusive” hold any weight with anyone these days?

  • Sweet! loved the Alpha can’t wait for the Beta and getting my white PS4 with Destiny! Great time to be a PS Gamer.

  • But on the official Destiny website there is stated that all of these are timed exclusive. You might just as well say that straight Sony.

  • Loved the alpha! can’t wait for Beta!

  • The Alpha was amazing. It was the most fun I’ve had online in a long time — and the core concept was very refreshing. I can’t wait for the beta!!

  • I still try to log in to the alpha just in case… lol

  • The Destiny Alpha Test was amazing! My friends and I explored every area, completed every mission we could find together. We kept doing most of the missions over and over, we completed The Devil’s Lair so many times to learn about the enemy
weakness and the bosses. We could not stop playing this amazing game we were waiting for so long. Even if the Level Cap was 8 we didn’t care we kept playing we could not stop. We kept playing over and over. Even though we wanted to move up, we didn’t mind it was a practice for us to become better players. When we started playing online we met with other people on the team, and invited them to our fire team to work and communicate together. We were so amazed with so online and how there is more than one objective there is to win the game. Finally something to challenge us against other players. The Best Game I could ever play in all the games i ever played. Thank You.

  • Alpha was a little too addictive; I am having hard hard time going back to some other games I have yet to finish after playing Destiny. That being said only comment would be that I found playing with any degree of stealth was difficult; which came as a shock for me playing as a Hunter, the stealth class!? Even when using a sniper rifle from a good distance, enemies immediately seemed to know my location!?

Seems odd that for a class with stealth in the description there were no real sneaking options.

Again I still had an absolute blast during the Alpha.

Quick question, will this exclusive content be available for playstation versions of the game regardless of retailer? I would assume so but no retailers have listed this exclusive content in their descriptions?

  • I will also add a similar comment to those of others, that it would be great to have the option to switch to 3rd person to better enjoy the environment and beautiful character armour.

  • love the game..looking forward to beta and release of the game. for all the complaints i have been reading on here. first and foremost, this was an ALPHA. just a taste of things to come, 1/1000 of the content you should expect in the release version. wait till you have played the final release before judging this game. As for the DLC, people on here have complained about that. they are “timed exclusives” they aren’t permanent exclusives. It a company’s way for boosting sales for their system. its been going on for ages,. they aren’t going to go away, so you might as well get use to it. as for the multiplayer, if you think its unbalanced, why dont you wait to play it after you upgraded your character and your weapons. there is plenty of content in this game to keep you busy till you get good stats and weapons before you enter multiplayer, and that way it wont be “unbalanced”. for me, ill probably wait till after i do the story campaign and do a lot of strike missions before i try multiplayer. that way my character will have good stats and damn good weapons to fight with.

  • After many hours of the alpha. I’m very positive about this game. Although I was very positive about this game before that since I pre-ordered some time ago. So my opinion was further cemented if anything. By no means is the game perfect, but the shining potential is there. I, like others, left a slew of comments on the Bungie forums on things we felt needed work or at least needed tweaking. With as limited as the content was for the alpha there’s high hopes come time for the beta. My only real regret is that most of my RL friends aren’t on PSN, so I’ll be partying up with random people when the game finally rolls out.

  • About Playstation – Exclusive Content. Is Sony asking Bungie to Implement Ps Vita ‘Second Screen’ Support for Ps4? I’m not just talking about controls for Remote Play(which needs to include shaking the Vita for Melee, since the Vita lacks 5 Buttons the Dualshock4 has if You include the ‘Action Button”), but Using the Vita in Conjunction with the Ps4. Like Inventory/Quick Load Out Screens, Objective/Mission Read Outs, or What if my Vita had the Ghost on it at all Times & Touching my Vita activated Him & He spoke Thru the Vita Speakers. A Quick Equipment Select/Load Screen on Vita may give Hardcore Gamers an Advantage in PvP(may), while putting the Ghost on the Ps Vita would give Casual Gamers a more Immersive Gaming Experience. I’m still wanting to try out Transistor on Ps4 mainly because the Weapon talks thru the Dualshock4, just saying };)

  • I have to strongly disagree with Avatarguy (comments 103 and 104 currently). For my money, even in an alpha build Destiny is better than just about any game I can think of on the market. There has been a lot of hype, monumental expectations, and for the first time in years I was not disappointed. Quite the opposite.

To be able to say that about an ALPHA build is staggering really. September is much, much too far away.

  • The “First Look Alpha” was a tantalizing taste of Destiny. I took 2 of the 3 classes to the level cap and cant wait for the Beta.

Destiny seems like it is going to live up to all the hype and more. The only question i have is how good the end game is going to be. The journey to reach the highest levels will no undoubtedly be amazing, but i always seem to get bored once i hit the ceiling. Im curious to see how Destiny keeps us interested after we partake in all the standard content.

If anyone can do it, its Bungie.

  • This game is gonna be so beautiful and amazing Can’t wait
