PS Plus: July’s Free Game Lineup Goes Live Tuesday

This month, PlayStation Plus members can download Towerfall Ascension and Strider on PlayStation 4. Towerfall Ascension is a great excuse to invite a few friends over for an evening of fierce fun and local competition. It features simple mechanics, but it’ll take some time to master shooting and catching arrows, head stomping and strategically using power ups. Our second PS4 game is Strider, a reboot of one of gaming’s most renowned action series. As you aim to assassinate a heavily guarded target, you’ll employ a plethora of cyber-ninja skills and upgrades you collect along the way.

On PS3 we have the critically acclaimed action-horror title Dead Space 3 and a physics puzzle game called Vessel. Dead Space 3 continues the story of Issac Clarke and his constant run-ins with the freaky Church of Unitology and their Necromorphs. A new co-op mode is a nice addition to the franchise, and playing with a friend will unlock some exclusive content. If you enjoy puzzle games, try out Vessel – a title with an incredible liquid physics engine. Each puzzle requires you to think about the properties of various forms of liquid, whether it’s lava and steam or chemicals, in order to minimize the threat of chaotic robots you created.

Finally, on PS Vita Plus members get Muramasa Rebirth and Doki-Doki Universe. Muramasa Rebirth is one of the prettiest games on Vita, with equally lovely backdrops and boss designs. You’ll hack and slash via two different characters’ perspectives, a possessed princess and fugitive ninja, and you can craft consumables as well as new swords. Then there’s the unique experience of Doki-Doki Universe, where you’ll explore the universe as an adorable robot appropriately named QT3. As you investigate what humanity means, the game will track your decisions and develop a personality profile, so you’ll actually learn more about yourself as you play.

Since all these games will be free for PS Plus members starting next Tuesday, July 1st, we will wrap any additional Plus updates into our weekly Store post each Tuesday.

Since the Vita is still alive, they’re still watching it, but they need to see more interest in the platform before they can fully jump in. Projects like this are always risky, and no major company is going to risk going bankrupt just to satisfy a handful of people.

At this point, IT’S UP TO THE CONSUMERS to show more support for the platform if they want it to succeed. Yes, you’ve done your part. So have I. But, again, be realistic. Those of us who have purchased a Vita do not represent a large enough consumer base to encourage continued full-fledged support from Sony and their affiliates. Sony is not a Mom & Pop business with low overhead that only requires a small customer base to succeed. They’re a big ass corporation, and big ass corporations require big ass profits to continue funding their big ass projects. Or, they will fail.

Vita owners need to help out by encouraging fellow gamers to invest in a Vita. However you can, just do it. The Vita is worth it, right? I tell people all the time what an awesome device the Vita is. Sony needs to move more units, period. I GUARANTEE you that if sales pick up, you WILL see the support you’ve been asking for. Big-name developers will always go where the money is.

  • @Primer – Who’s flipping out? Maybe now you might actually listen to me and stop calling my name or quoting me every time I make a post. I know I’ve asked you that dozens of times now. And I’ve also made it clear that nothing you say matters to me. I don’t need you to “reach me”. I don’t need you to “correct me”. I don’t need you to “explain things to me”. I don’t need your opinions stated as the “truth”. Or at least if you do try to speak to me or quote me then you might actually take the 5 seconds it takes to read what I say, try to grasp what I’m talking about and not assume I’m talking about something else entirely so you can go on your little grandstanding crusade to try to impress the people on the interwebz into thinking you’re a big shot

  • Stop annoying me and I’ll stop annoying you. Simple isn’t it? It’s actually the most simple thing in the world to do. Mind your own business and let people express their opinions without resorting to degrading, demeaning, insulting replies filled with childish name calling. I bet that you don’t talk to people in the real world like that so why do you think it’s OK to do to perfect strangers on the internet? What……because people on the internet can’t smack you in your smart mouth? I see. That actually explains a lot about you. Coward in real life, but big man on the internet that has to put everybody else down

  • And stop with the explanations of common sense stuff. You act like nobody else in the world is capable of understanding anything more than 2 + 2. Stop treating people like they’re stupid and can’t get dressed by themselves

  • PrimeroIncognito

    See, you’re not even listening.

I explained to you what was wrong with your approach, and you resist.

I explain to you why the Vita isn’t seeing full-fledged support, and you ignore it.

This is pointless. Just like Rez and Cruddy, you can’t manage your imperfections, and you condemn the honest man who’s trying to give you factual information to bring you back to reality. Whatever. Keep going on like that if you want. See how far it gets you.

  • PrimeroIncognito

If it’s “common sense stuff” then why do all your posts repeatedly reveal lack of knowledge in these areas? Don’t try to cover up your mistakes now, it’s too late for that. You’ve already shown me where you stand. You’ve proven yourself to be oblivious to how business works based on the presumptuous posts you’ve made regarding Sony’s business strategies.

Anyway, I’ve got other things to do. I hope you get over what’s bothering you. Good day, sir.

  • Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games. Stop with the indie games.

    Please?

  • @BahumatIsBack;

I am here, now. He will switch his focus from you to me. I am his preferred object of obsession.

He does this to anyone who doesn’t agree with him. It’s pretty pathetic, no?

Glad I am not the only one who sees through his attempt at impressing random screen names online with his wanna-be logic. He writes novels on here to people who don’t care, hoping to make a friend.

    Sigh.

  • Have to admit it, great month. Wasnt crazy about the last couple months but they can’t all be zingers. You’re doing great work keeping diversity in what games you add and for that I’m thankful, keep it up. DS3 is goin down ;)

  • I own most of these but it is still a great lineup for people that dont!! keep up the great work!!

  • Wow, I’m extremely excited for this line-up. Keep it up Sony!

  • Games that need to be free for PS+ sometime

Killer is Dead and Asura Wrath

  • Dang. Terrible lineup except for Vita whowouldathought… Muramasa was something I’d never buy (but kinda felt the itch at times) so free is good and Doki Doki was something I’ve wanted to play for a while.

PS4 and 8-biy craze no thanks.
PS3 is pretty meh, except for DEAD SPACE 3.. if I hadn’t ordered it from Amazon a week ago (now I know what it feels like).

  • @rafael_martines: KiD is awesome and is cheap on Amazon. I even got the special edition whatever that comes with an audio CD and an art booklet, for the same price as all old games. Check it out.

  • Fix the PS Now prices; they’re absurb.

  • Very good selection. Shame I already own every one of those except for Vessel, Muramasa, and Doki-Doki.

Kinda like the IGC actually being more instant on the games rather than waiting until the end of the month, since Muramasa would’ve been probably at the end of the month and interested in it.

  • I knew I should have held off on buying Strider.

  • eu is getting lego marvel for ps vita and we keep getting crap :)

  • This is the best Ps+ lineup in like…… a year or so, thank you

  • + FuntimeBen
    6 games per month
    12 months
    $50 Playstation Plus
That is 70 cents per game. PER GAME. Or a whopping $4.17 per month. Or 72 games per year!
To all those saying “only one good game this month” – cool. YOU ARE STILL GETTING YOUR MONEYS WORTH. Sure you have to ask your parents for your allowance, but it is still a pretty great deal babies. Stop being unappreciative whiners because it could be worse, you could be on Xbox Live.
    BABIES!

    Quoted for truth.
It’s a funny thing. I did my grocery shopping for this week, and I also got a year of PS Plus while I was at it. The groceries for one week cost almost triple that of a year of PS+. And I find that hilarious, especially when there are people that whine about the “poor game selection”.

I guess these same people don’t have other bills. This country is so self entitled and privileged when these arrogant yuppies demand nothing but AAA titles for free. Here’s some open advice. Shut up, get over yourselves, leave your parents basement, find employment, and buy a ton of games with your first paycheque. And then aim for the skies and do it again. And again. And again until your brain matures into that of an adult, rather than a peasant.

  • I’ve been a PS Plus subscriber for a few years now and would like to know if my sub lapses and I buy it again, will my library of games be deleted or will they be active again? It has lapsed in the past and hasn’t been a problem at all. Has this changed in the new policy?

  • Some decent games, for the Vita, I’ll take that. Hope to see some PS1 classics on sale soon, and maybe some PSP games (ZHP Unlosing Ranger, SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1). I wish they’d add those to PS Plus free games too.

  • @270

We’re getting Muramasa. I haven’t played it, but it’s supposedly a good one. Lego Marvel is crap. It’s not like the console versions at all. You know that, right? Lego games on the Vita have all been a HUGE disappointment because of this. We get the same version as the DS, which stinks big time.

  • When does don’t starve dlc come out anyone know ?

  • And if I may, as far as possible future titles for Plus, I’d love to try Spelunky, Amazing Spiderman, and one of the Atelier games. Plenty of great PSP games too (wouldn’t mind seeing some on sale). Such as:

    ZHP Unlosing Ranger
Cladun 1 and 2 (Wish these would go on sale!)
Armored Core (Not sure which is the newest)
    Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
    Patapon 3
Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2
    Valkyria Chronicles 2
    Warriors Orochi 2
    Wild Arms XF
    Ys (Any of them)

And how about putting the Capcom Classic and Sega Genesis collection games on sale.

I also noticed Europe PS Store has EA Replay. Would love to have that game.

  • @BahumatIsBack Like I said, if you don’t like what I post, then leave and don’t come back. You having to respond in a timely fashion wasn’t directed to you, it was for smoothboarder. I was hoping he would say something, but he didn’t so I just assumed you speak the same as him since you have no interest in anyone has to say to you. At least you ain’t a big loser like he is.

Unlike Primero, we are completely different. If you hate indie games, fine and I don’t care. It’s repeating the same stuff over and over that pisses me off. Cradda is already acting like a child because of his obsessive indie hate and that he posts it every PS+ update I see. I don’t want to read his crap every time I look in the comments. He wasn’t a problem to me back then, but now he’s starting to drive me nuts. At least not to the point I call him “my favorite word I like to call trolls” though.

  • Unbelievable! This is probably the fifth time that I’ve bought a game as part of a sale, and the next month it joins the instant game collection! Why do you do that Sony!?!? I bought Muramasa the last time it was on sale! The same happened with Hotline Miami, and Stealth Inc. this is ridiculous.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ amguitarman86

At least you got them cheap. I lost count of how many games I paid FULL PRICE for that later showed up in the IGC… And I’m still not complaining. We paid those prices because we thought they were fair. That’s all there is to it.

PS+ is STILL valuable to me for the few games I have gotten for free, and the cloud storage and extra discounts. I paid $40 per year for 2 years. Incredible value.

  • You guys are destroying xbox games for gold…

  • THANK GOD I don’t have to wait until 2-3 weeks in to play the game I want out of the PS+ and instead I just get them all the first week. I’m so happy you guys restructured your previously flawed system.

  • Finally PS+ is BACK!!!!! Dead Space 3 was an awesome game and I look forward to playing it again. Loved the demo for Strider and can’t wait to actually sink my teeth into the full version. Haven’t see much of Towerfall but look forward to it anyways. *Cheers* to PlayStation and here’s hoping that you keep the momentum!!

  • @253,

And that is why the Vita has no hope anymore. Let me explain… I agree that we need to help Sony make the Vita a success by buying Vita-related stuff, be it consoles, games, accessories, etc… (I think I did my fair share with two consoles and many games)… But developpers are in it for the money and their support depends on sales numbers. Logical. Understandable.

BUT the problem lies with what the platform has to offer right now. While many don’t have a problem with indies and smaller games (there are good games in there), what most are interested in (from what I can tell) are AAA game experiences. With Sony admitting that they’re not interested anymore in putting out big AAA games for the Vita, that leave us with indies and mobile-like games to show our support for the platform.

BUT, if we throw our money at those to support it, it will only show that we want MORE of these. And this is not going to convince developpers to create bigger AAA titles. Only mobile-like cheap titles. Because that’s what sells. Because that’s the only new releases we can buy.

I feel the Vita, as a gaming portable, just entered a downward spiral that it won’t be able to get out of.

  • vita is DEAD DEAD. give up and forget about it already. move on, nothing to see here…

  • xbox live gold vs ps+
seems like xbox live gold is catching up. xbox 360 free game is permanent…

i have ps3 and ps4. my ps+ expire 2015 January. i dont have xbox 360 or one. microsoft has 1/2 year to convince me to get xbox one and move to xbox live gold.

    http://www.inquisitr.com/1290523/games-with-gold-vs-playstation-plus-for-july-2014/

  • @289
One of the Xbox One games, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is given away until August 31. So, that’s one game that they will have for 3 months. Meaning they only get 1 XBO game per month. And you say that Xbox is catching up? Lulz…

If you want permanent, old crappy 360 games, go and get the Xbox 360? Nobody here is holding you back, nor will we. Seriously. Go.

  • @290

xbox live gold for xbox one, if i am not mistaken, then you keep game as long as you keep your subscription like ps+. so what do you mean, it go away in couple months?

if you mean, it only available for the xbox live gold user to pick up, then it is the SAME for ps+. i know the truth hurt you, but there is no need to spread LIE?

  • Great month….all good games and I don’t have a single one….been wanting to try out Vessel and I can’t believe you guys are giving Muramasa Rebirth for free,oh thats really amazing….the only shame for me is Dead Space 3….its of no use to me since I want that bad boy in disc.

  • “Dang. Terrible lineup except for Vita whowouldathought… Muramasa was something I’d never buy (but kinda felt the itch at times) so free is good and Doki Doki was something I’ve wanted to play for a while.”

OK, so “terrible lineup” except for a third of it …

“PS3 is pretty meh, except for DEAD SPACE 3.. if I hadn’t ordered it from Amazon a week ago (now I know what it feels like).”

Oh, so half? You already bought or want to play half the games offered. Which is “terrible.” Solid input.

  • @ 291 ht02135 – Lol…hi Mr.Troll…another one here on the Blog….oh well….uuh…you should go once and for all to dat xbox and get their membership since you like it so much. What you doin here on PS?….

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ RE4LNOiSE_42

Nah, I’m pretty sure if Vita sales go through the roof… somehow… you’ll see the originally planned AAA support return. Sony backed off only because they had to, financially.

  • Another great month to be a PS Plus member

  • so if i download doki doki on my ps vita, will i get it on my ps3?

  • comments getting the cut… anyway strider was nice when i tried the demo.

  • “….all the $&@?ing and moaning posts should be deleted…”

Riiiiiight, because that’s the kind of community we should all be a part of right? That’s what would make all those terrible headaches and bad icky negative words go away huh? That’s what would make this BLOG… This venue of EXPRESSION better right? A ban/censor on anything not absolutely glowing and positive and full of unicorns and sugar plums, right?!

Holy $&?! the level of ignorance on this blog gets worse every day. Do you brown nosers get a check from Sony yet? You guys should really ask about that. I mean the amount of near zealot-like blind devotion you guys preach shouldn’t go unrewarded.

  • Pat yourselves on your backs all you want, if your satisfied With the level of service and content…. Good, I’m happy for you, share your appreciation here… It’s your prerogative and opinion. Just like people have a right to complain or moan. Don’t they teach that in school anymore or is everyone too busy scouring the blog for “bad posts” to flame. Grow up.

And while I’m posting this, lemme just say to everyone who came from xbone to here, you know… All you ship jumpers who realized the xbox wasn’t the right choice for next gen; microsofts way of handling subscriptions is just that… Their way. Plus is basically a video game rental service… Your paying for those extra games… They aren’t “gravy”. Sony started that mess of needing a sub for ps4 but that doesn’t change the fact that your paying for content not simply for online access. Leave the xbone mentality at the door…k? Cause We shouldn’t give a pass to garbage content just cause we pay for online access now.

As far as what’s garbage… Nm, it ain’t worth even getting into on here.

  • TrurLord you let out ah lot of steam.

  • Haha. People take things personally – as if they’re being talked to.

  • Nice job on this update. I already own Strider, but wow! PSPlus has been pretty good for so many months in a row.

  • Annother month Annother lame line up. I would like to see tenchu stealth assassins ps1. In the ps now store. Other than that. I guess the wait for destiny is all i have hope in. And my vita game shelf. Is still woundering why the vita tv was invented.

  • i will not buy plus anymore !
i don’t wanna waste more my money, in these “free games”
