  • @ PrimeroIncognito,

Following my previous comment (#147), I’d like to add a thing…

One of the reason why Korean companies are taking the market by storm over Japanese ones, has been explained in some tech and marketing-dedicated magazines. Most of these companies have a smaller administrative structure, and thus, are able to react a lot more quickly to market changes than those with a bigger structure.

Also, those companies are not always waiting for statistics that are outdated by the time they reach management. Technology evolves at an alarming rate nowadays, and thus, it has become much more important to try innovating, rather than producing what is trendy, because producing what is now trendy means already being late to the party (it’s already trending, you know, so it’s already out there).

Sure, sometimes they miss the mark completely by trying to guess what will be the next big thing (curved TV screens, Samsung? Really?), but if you don’t try, you’re never going to be a trendsetter.

    Anyway, nice discussion folks. :)

  • @PrimeroIncognito: Vocal gamers are not there because of ego issues. They are there simply because they have something to say. The biggest mistake people behind the desks make is thinking that vocal gamers are just *some people*. Look around you. There’s an army of people waiting for Suikoden 2 on PSN, but many of them don’t write about it here, mainly because they don’t even know/care about this blog, or they just simply do not believe it will change anything.

“Vocal gamers” are not people with big egos. They are simply megaphones for a wider audience.

I don’t even know what’s your problem here. Suikoden 2 should come to the PS Store because it’s in the best interest of all parties involved. Suggesting otherwise is ignorant. Square Enix though that the West doesn’t like JRPGs for the last couple of years and suddenly they realized that they were wrong. Bravely Default, that JRPG game that came to the West only because of “vocal gamers”, made them see the obvious.

  • @ PrimerIncognito,

“The statistics are much more useful, important, and POWERFUL than you realize.”

They are, if you know how to use them properly. There is always a use for statistics, but statistics, by their nature are telling us what happenned in the past. And it’s not always right to assume a “trend” will continue.

You need to take into account how stats were compiled, and be aware of what they represent exactly, and consider every reason possible behind every number, which is often impossible to do. Statistics like sales, and financial information are easy to understand. What’s harder to understand, is the reason why you got these numbers. And THAT is why stats aren’t everything. People are approaching them with a binary mindset, thinking that these numbers means only one thing. Sales are up, so the product’s good. Down, product’s bad. It’s much more complicated than that, And that’s why you need someone to be able to put these stats in perspective.

I can give you many examples of stats not being analyzed correctly.

  • Good for you that you never had to contact PSN support. Do you want a cookie? Maybe a gold star on your next report card?

Most of us are tired of your condescending attitude. It must be my fault because Sony can’t honor their preorder bonuses that they promise. OK, I see. So let me ask you – how is that crusade you’re on? You know, the one where you defend Sony blindly at every step of the way and anybody that has had or is having issues with them must be a goon that can’t figure out how to work the interwebz. Or is it that you just can’t stand anybody that’s not down on their hands and knees kissing Sony’s butt in every comment? I think it’s more of the latter because it doesn’t really matter what somebody’s talking about if it’s even slightly negative you gotta jump up and do your grandstanding routine. It’s old and tiresome. Same as you

  • “It must not have happened because it hasn’t happened to me” – that’s what you sound like

  • I have yet to play The Last of Us but will probably wait awhile to do so. Priorities.

  • If you wanna play WRC4, add me! ^^

  • They should add more psp games to the psn like street supremacy, The fast and furious toyko drift, test drive unlimited, dragon ball tag team, naruto UNH 3 etc.

  • Sorry if this has been answered a million times. I am new ps4 / playstation plus owner and prepurchased TLOU for download on PSN. Do these games usually come out at midnight release day or is there some other schedule? Thanks.

  • When will there be Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, or Arkham Origins on the Playstation Now streaming system when its released on 7/31/14 this week?

  • Oh that’s WONDERFUL. You guys delayed Ratchet & Clank Vita a week. I’m fine with that. This gives you a week to:
Cater to the fans with a physical release and add a cross-buy code in each box and with each download
    Fix bugs

Of course though, the major one was not accomplished. I’m disappointed. Even if physical wasn’t cross-buy I was considering getting it. Now I find out there will be no physical. Thanks again Sony. I’m a huge fan but you let me down. Thank you very VERY much.

  • I’m sorry Sony but you will not geta lot of buys from Ratchet & Clank Collection Vita if you don’t step it up. Itsquite annoying that an AMERICAN game, remade by an AMERICAN company, gets more features and reasons for buying it OUTSIDE of America rather than in. It is not hard to shove those files into a cartridge, get the PS3 boxart on a Vita box, and (optional) include a code inside for a PS3 download for all our troubles. I want yoh to delay this another week, another month, another YEAR until we get what we want. Very disappointed in the company I’ve loved since I was a young boy.

  • @ RE4LNOiSE_42

    Who said Sony isn’t innovating?

Watching statistics is not indicative of a fear of innovation, nor is it the founding M.O. for any company. It’s simply the most effective method by which a company can track the effect of their produce on the public, and a means of deciding the next best move.

Statistics reveal the HABITS of the consumer. This is nothing new, it has long been understood and accepted. You never “expect” anything to continue forever, as things do indeed evolve over time, but human beings are creatures of habit, therefore, the changes will happen gradually, and this is exactly where statistics are really useful – you can track the shift in behavior at the exact point it occurs and continually respond to it, thus, continually reinforcing your influence in the marketplace, gaining strength moving forward.

  • @ RE4LNOiSE_42

All of the companies you named are in business due to some innovation at some point. Sony’s track record in that department is long-established. They’ve innovated plenty. You couldn’t be in business for long if you haven’t carved out your niche by setting a unique standard of some sort. But they also all play the game of “watch the other guy” to see what they’re up to. It’s a mix of both.

Of course, statistics can be misinterpreted by anyone without an understanding of the language of mathematics and consumer habits, and nothing in life is perfect. But, taking the arrogant, “I can do anything because I’m special” approach is certainly not an improvement over the established, proven method. It’s naive and reckless.

You messed up a little bit when you related the Koreans’ smaller administrative structure and faster reactions to changes in the market to innovation, but, that actually comes directly from responding to statistics. Not innovation. The Koreans are doing it too, see. And the statistics travel instantaneously, just like all other information nowadays. Nothing in tech is outdated THAT fast. If it’s compiled tonight, it’ll be on the CEO’s desk tomorrow morning.

  • @ MrPonuraski

Do you know what Microsoft was doing wrong and WHY? Is it because they were responding to statistics, or were they being arrogant and thought they could skate by on status alone? Do we know? It just might be the latter! And if it is… well, there ya go.

I don’t know what the deal with Suikoden II is, but it may already be on the way, as some have mentioned it had already been submitted to the ESRB.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen rampant whining and demanding for a certain game, with piles of accompanying negative speculation and accusations of all kinds of incompetence… only to see the game eventually be released and suddenly all the noisemakers go silent and act as if they never said anything at all…

And I can guarantee you the excessive whining and threat-making had NOTHING to do with it. There’s a plan for everything.

    Patience.

  • BahumatIsBack on July 28th, 2014 at 6:53 pm said: ““It must not have happened because it hasn’t happened to me” – that’s what you sound like”

WAAAAAA!!! That’s what YOU sound like. :)

I never said it didn’t happen. But I do believe you’re exaggerating (lying) about the regularity with which this problem of yours has occurred. You claim you’ve called them dozens of times… well, a dozen is 12 and you used the plural form, thus, multiple dozens, which means you’ve called them a minimum of 24 times. Well, I highly doubt that. There are options out there and I know you’re aware of them. I don’t know anyone who would put up with calling company support dozens of times and still stick with the company. If it was really that bad, you would have bailed a long time ago. I know I would have.

And quit the nonsense allegations. Is that all you can do? All this “grandstanding” and “crusading” garbage. I already told you I don’t represent Sony. I represent SANITY. I’ve never defended Sony once. You just don’t like being corrected or hearing the truth so you make up crap in a desperate attempt to discredit me. But, try harder. ‘Cause it’s not working and you look silly.

  • I’m gonna go ahead and call it right now, castle storm will be one of the free vita games for ps plus in august. Why? It’s free on iOS, and like muramasa rebirth, it has DLC, So they can get you there. Probably that and a crummy Lego game.

  • geez, give us turismo on the vita whydontcha??!

  • where is Ratchet and Clank I don’t see the collection on the Vitas PSN

  • Sadly, PrimeroIncognito is trolling. Nothing of what he writes is covered in facts, but he goes miles to pretend that it’s otherwise. The red flags here are the amount of buried posts he keeps replying to and the amount of people he keeps on denying.

What he actually does: “disrupts the discussion”, “disseminates bad advice”, and “damages the feeling of trust in the community”. All textbook material.

I am not replying to him anymore.

  • Heya, could you give us more info on Helldivers? It’s supposed to be out this Summer. Helldivers is a PS exclusive, shouldn’t Sony be promoting it better? :/

  • @ PrimeroIncognito,

Look, I’m not here to start a war about who’s right or wrong. I have two decades of experience in marketing (both low and high-level), I read constantly on both tech and marketing subjects, I think I might know a thing or two about it. You too have some experience in marketing and stats analysis, but from a different point of view, and from specific types of business. That’s perfectly fine. And we’re probably both right on many aspects, although at different levels.

But you can’t know about something in a specific field and thus assume that it works the same everywhere, for everyone, without exception. Also, a thing proven to work since a long time isn’t proof it will continue to work tomorrow.

And about statistics, there’s an old saying that says “correlation does not mean causation”. Something that most stats analysts usually tend to forget. Be it in politics, economics, or marketing. Stats can have hundreds of different interpretations.

  • leftfieldsweeper

Where is my Rogue Legacy. I purchased it on PS4 last night. It is there. I download it. Works fine. I try to download it on my vita at work today and it is not allowing me to…. what gives?

  • @ MrPonuraski,

I don’t think PrimeroIncognito is speaking nonsense. He has some form of experience with marketing, so he obviously know a thing or two about the subject. Although, I don’t agree with him about stats being the “be-all, end-all” of business strategy. It might be, from a retail perspective, because the single goal of retail is to provide consumers access to what they want to buy. What retail is trying to sell, is a better service to the consumer.

The goal of manufacturers and creators is different. It’s not just about providing what consumers want, but also convincing them that they want your new product. They’re not selling a service, they’re selling a product. There are differences. And stats have different roles in different situations.

They might be the “be-all, end-all” at retail, like PrimeroIncognito says. Although stats only show numbers. A store owner that see constant decline in sales might think its products aren’t trendy anymore, when in fact, it’s because its service stinks. Stats don’t tell everything.

  • @RE4LNOiZE_42: He is trolling. Most likely by sockpuppetry. He omits what’s actually being said, disjoints facts from other fields only to use them as fallacies and pushes for severe disruptions in the community. A good troll will always try to pass as a legitimate person. That’s the idea.

  • @ MrPonuraski,

Well, all that being said anyway, I just hope that Sony is actually listening to its customers and start offering what they want. Be it releasing more “classics” like Suikoden II or releasing greatly anticipated Vita games in physical format instead of digital only. And also improve their communication channels with their customers.

  • @RE4LNOiZE_42: Some fail to see what it means when SCEA publishes an ESRB rating for Suikoden II on PSN.

What’s more, it was published on 22/4, which was a PS Store update day for SCEA. While there are games rated on the ESRB website and still not released, there’s always somebody actually posting the certificates. They don’t happen by a mistake. In other words, the NA PS1 version of Suikoden II is in Sony’s playground now. Clearly, something blocked it. What can be proven is that it’s not about legal or emulation issues. Konami has full rights to Suikoden II. Not only the very creator of Suikoden I-III said it in a recent interview, but we also have Konami itself porting the game to PC, mobile phones and PSP. Obviously, they can do whatever they want with it because they have full rights to it.

The emulation issues were cleared way back in 2007, with PSP’s firmware update 3.50.

Realistically, there are two options: either somebody from the QA team didn’t like its PS1 American localisation from 1999 (which, ironically, is still better than the one that FFVII has)

    or

somebody from the marketing team decided to pull it off based on some erroneous analysis of the potential fanbase/sales window.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ MrPonuraski

Ho hum… so, you’re one of THOSE guys, huh?

You got mad because I corrected you and you felt embarrassed. Weak. Grow a set, son.

Just like other insecure people, you reflect your shortcomings on others. You say I’m “damaging the feeling of trust in the community”, yet all you’ve done is try to convince us that something shady is going on behind the scenes with Suikoden II. Nothing but speculation. DISSEMINATING MISINFORMATION. Good job, genius.

By the way, nice profile. I think it’s funny that a guy with 2 trophies is saying I’m a sockpuppet account.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ RE4LNOiSE_42

No worries, man. I wasn’t trying to start anything with you. Just sharing my thoughts and my experience. I respect where you’ve been and what you’ve done. You’re a working man like me, so that alone gives you massive points with me… unlike some of these bums here.

All I was saying is that statistics are more important than most people realize. Across the board. I know it for a fact.

  • please I’m wainting for psn plus update

  • Is Ratchet and Clank REALLY coming out today? After the massive delays with Deadlocked and FFA, not to mention I’ve seen this a couple of times for the Vita collection itself, I’m a bit weary. Is it really coming out today?

  • Regarding the comment about releasing in physical form…Why? Do you think there is a benefit to having to have multiple cartridges? Even if you buy used, you can’t get trophies. Unless you’re buying games online, it’s so hard to find physical vita games anyways (at least in my neck of the woods – Ohio) that I prefer having a ton of games on my 32gb card and being able to delete/redownload at will.

    Just curious.

  • @ RemakeYourself: Ratchet & Clank™ Collection is already in the PS Store. 3.2GB in total so it would fit the Vita gamecard.

  • BTW, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds got pushed back to next week in NA. The devs said it’s “because reasons”.

  • Where’s Phantom Breaker? =/

  • ^ just read post above..

    I R Disappoint.

  • Mneh.. not gonna get it… not gonna get it… OH DAMMIT SONY you got another 30 dollars outta me! I just bought it. :P Something tells me if you guys love your fans though you’ll add cross-buy in the future… please? :3 Or at least allow returns on digital purchases so I could get a physical copy if it came out. (I couldn’t help buying it though. I just watched some vids of the first game for a theme I’m making and the memories flooded back so there goes 30 bucks. :P)

  • Please Ryan anything concerning Phantom Breaker would be great. Lots of sites have claimed it’ll be relased today but no one giving us any word on it.

  • @MrPonuraski I may be late to the party, but grow yourself a spine. Primero isn’t the one who’s trolling, you are. Do you seriously think that begging and demanding Suikoden II to Sony would change anything? This is like the Crash and Spyro situation all over again. At least LY0D (The first guy who spammed it) was being honest and it took me a while to realize it. If Suikoden II comes to PSN, then great. You are not helping whatsoever, demanding the game isn’t going to come any faster.

@PrimeroIncognito Don’t worry about him, I know from your experience that you are not the type of person who would start crap to people. He just wants the dumb game.

  • Oh, I agree. The best way to let a company know what you want is not to tell them. The very next time I’m at a physical store, I’m just going to stand there and silently wait until someone brings me exactly what I want.

The same goes for restaurants: I’m going to sit down and wait silently until someone brings me exactly what I would like to eat, prepared in precisely the manner I prefer.

Because THAT’S HOW IT WORKS, RIGHT?!

    -_-

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ ThumbsOfSteel74

You should clarify who you’re aiming at with that…

If you’re talking to Gamerzlimited, notice how he specifically mentioned “begging and demanding” as the sure-to-fail method for MrPonuraski to acquire his object of desire. He never suggested that MrPonuraski, or anyone, should be silent.

Expressing what you prefer is one thing, and it’s totally fine. It’s when people start demanding (disrespectfully, usually) – expecting any given business to cater specifically to them, “other patrons be damned because I’m the most special” – is when the unraveling of the collective provider/consumer relationship begins…

    Is that a good thing?

  • @ThumbsOfSteel74: The poster above is a typical ignorant internet troublemaker and it’s not worth reasoning with him because he will use fallacies in every reply just to fulfil the troll agenda.

For example, I have been playing Suikoden 2 since ~2003 and it’s not my object of desire because there’s nothing stopping me from playing it again at any free moment, although I will gladly pay for the game on a modern platform, just like thousands of others declared to do.

He purposefully ignores the fact that there’s a 25K strong Suikoden movement asking for Suikoden 2 on PSN since 2008 and that I only carry the social reach further, as many others do even on this blog. He doesn’t even know that a Konami NA’s employee said what’s actually happening behind the scenes with Suikoden 2 and that people were told to keep demanding Suikoden 2 on both Konami NA’s an SCEA’s channels all the way until it gets released because it’s only a matter of flipping the mythical switch as the game is tested to work with Sony’s emulation and has no legal blockades.

  • Really my comment was directed at whoever took the time to read it. Earlier in this very thread (or in an extremely recent one, can’t recall TBH), I said much the same about patience and respect when making such requests. But I haven’t seen any disrespect on the part of people asking for Suikoden 2. Because in the end, that’s all they’re doing. Are they being patient? Nope. Do I care? Nope. It was Chieh Chen IIRC who responded to someone’s request with the notion to try a Twitter campaign or some such. I know nothing about the timeline; for all I know, the Twitter campaign(s) were already established.

The game’s release may even be in the works as we “speak,” but we can’t know that for sure. So the campaign continues.

Funny thing is, I don’t give 2 farts about Suikoden 2. I’ve never played it. I’ve enjoyed many JRPGs in my time, but I think I’m just over that genre.

I just think you’re barking up the wrong tree. These guys may be persistent, even single-minded. But I don’t find their behavior objectionable. This is a comment thread, after all.

  • @MrPonuraski: Thanks. As I said, I’m not really interested in this game. But regardless, I hope you succeed. More games = more people playing them and more money for Sony & the devs. Everybody wins. :)

  • @ Thumbs

But never was there any suggestion from the other side to be silent…

That was my main point. You acted as if that was the suggestion when it never was. Accuracy matters.

    @ MrP

You wouldn’t be persistently asking for it if you had no desire. Whether or not you own the actual disc or not (or an ISO) is irrelevant. You have clearly demonstrated a desire to see the game released digitally through PSN.

Go ahead and point out the fallacies I used, by the way. If you can’t (or won’t), then claiming such was a fallacy in itself. Quit hating, and let your balls drop into your sack already.
