Pure Pool Coming to PS4 Today

We at VooFoo Studios are intensely proud of our games – and our next game in the Pure series is no different. We’ve been working our socks off to bring you Pure Pool in all its shiny glory. Just like we did with Pure Chess, we’ve taken great care to not only give it our trademark stunning visuals, but to perfect all the details to make Pure Pool as immersive as we possibly can. And we’re certain we’ve achieved the goal of creating a bustling pool hall in the comfort your own home!

The whole team has enjoyed creating this game and developing features specifically for the PS4 has also been a blast. We’ve been able to implement features such as the use of the DualShock 4 touchpad, which allows you to glance about the table right up to the point of taking the shot. There’s also the inclusion of accolades and Trophies for those Trophy hunters out there.

Since our new pool game is very much focused on the “Pure” part of the title, we’ve gotten rid of the artificial features and mechanics such as a power bar and top-down views to create a more authentic game for both beginners and masters alike. Pull back on the right analog stick – just like pulling back the cue before taking a shot in reality – then push forward to take your shot. Need to check another angle to ensure you get the perfect pot? Press the Square button and walk around the table as if you would in real life. Pure and simple.

Another part of the VooFoo portfolio that we’re particularly proud of is the ball physics from Hustle Kings. We’ve built on that for Pure Pool, pushing the hardware to see how realistically we can make the balls bounce off each other and around the table.

As well as pushing the hardware to gain better physics, our wonderful artists have had a lot of fun pushing the graphics to achieve the realism that we’ve made our trademark. Blurring the line between game and reality is something that we’re best known for.

In regards to gameplay, we’ve included 40+ hours of single player careers of varying difficulties for each game mode (varying from 8-ball pool, 9-ball pool, Killer, mini-games and the VooFoo designed game of Accumulator). That’s a lot of pool – and that’s without covering the multiplayer options. Speaking of multiplayer options, we wanted to get you competing against other players from around the world in a fully synchronised gameplay within seconds of booting gameplay, so we built a streamlined online multiplayer system to make live gameplay virtually indiscernible from offline play.

We’re also excited to introduce our new online DNA profiling system to everyone. After you’ve played a few games of pool, your DNA profile is created. This gathers a wide selection of information about how you play, from the type of shots you take, if you go for pots or play it safe, if you often put heavy spin on the cue ball – and creates a DNA profile. This essentially means that when you’re offline, your friends are still able to play against you and vice versa! There is also two-player local play which is fully supported.

There’s a buzz around the office as the release to Pure Pool gets closer, and we’ve been really encouraged by the excitement people have expressed through social media, forum comments and in person at events like E3. We hope that everyone enjoys playing the game as much as we’ve enjoyed making it! Pure Pool is now available for $12.99.

  • To add my comment to the many others:

Why does this show as $12.99 (with a discount making it $9.09 for PS+ users)? It was said maybe three times above it would retail for $9.99?

Naturally, I don’t mind getting it for $9.09, but if the game was supposed to be $9.99 and there will be a discount for PS+ users on top of that, I’d rather wait for that. I was going to buy this right away, but since I got my fingers burnt (sure, we all got a discount in the end, but I still spent time talking to support who told me I wouldn’t) with The Last of Us Remastered when it dropped by $10, I’m hesitant to make the purchase now.

Can we have a firm answer and price for this, please?

    • We apologise for the confusion – the prices we were given yesterday had the currency signs mixed up. The actual prices are £7.99/ €9.99/ $12.99 .

  • @51 – Sony offered 10$ refunds to ppl who “got burned” w/TLOUR. You seem like a good chap but seriously? The +price is $9.09 right now! Pure Pool has multiple carreer modes, singleplayer, leagues, tournaments, a very fleshed out mp & more – add gorgeous graphics & attention to detail & a 9$ asking price ru kidding me? Also, Pure Pool has a PLATINUM trophy w/ 26 bronze, 16 silver, 2 gold, 1 plat. For all that ur holding out for a lower price? $9.09 is insanely cheap i bought it happily feeling like i got a steal, u should too. Even if u don’t like mp it has a sp carreer with a bunch of trophies.

  • Strange, American posting this in the EU blog, but I don’t read those kind of comments here:

    “swd420 30 July, 2014 @ 3:59 am 21
Sorry folks, but this game is abysmal. I am truly disappointed. Matchmaking is awful, no way to turn off aiming aids, even on master skill level, and the table plays so slow it feels like playing on burlap rather than felt. No way to adjust stick sensitivity and it constantly locks up while attempting a quick-match. Voo-Foo, this is a giant step backwards from Hustle Kings. Yes, the graphics are great…but that’s about it. Shame on you.”

    Someone else posts:

“The difficulty is all wrong just like hustle kings. No beginner on career mode, amateur is easiest setting and unless you are familiar with the game and have decent skills you won’t stand a chance and won’t play cause it’s just not fun losing over and over again.

The game is bare bones and a bit of a dissapotment.

I will still play local games and try to enjoy it”

Can someone from USA that is already playing it confirm this?

  • Where are all the reviews for this? Even metacritic aren’t showing any. Seems very odd that nobody has reviewed this game.

  • Any way to do local multiplayer killer with lots of people, or will it be in a patch?

  • To do local multiplayer, you go to the “players” tab, then you pick “player 2” to start a 2-player local game.

You can’t play with more than 2 people in any game mode.

  • @ 53 – I am an American user who bought and played the game….and it’s awesome! I love it, the music is PERFECT (i want the soundtrack) the graphics are obviously stunning & imo the gameplay is fluid, accessible, enjoyable, & spot on. I am not a “pool shark” in real life but as far as i can see the physics are very realistic & the table DOES NOT play slow “like burlap” it plays realistically & quite fast actually…maybe these ppl r used to playing pool on a greased marble floor? I was BLOWN AWAY with the quality & the vast amount of content (especially for 9$ ) not to mention it has a platinum trophy, Sony dictates trophies based on how long/how much content a game has, not on price tag….so it’s quite telling that this game has a platinum.

  • @ 53 – NA user who has the game & it’s AWESOME! Great physics, gameplay, music ect. 9$ is a steal especially if ur a trophy hunter (it has a PLATINUM). It’s a really nice diversion to go & shoot some pool & listen to some relaxing music after a hard days work. Perfect game juxtaposed with all the fps, survival horror, & 2-D side scrollers. It’s like taking a relaxing gaming vacation. Still haven’t picked up my preorder of TLOUR yet at gs. Awesome value ty Voo-Foo.

  • I keep getting the error message: “There was an error connecting to the Pure Pool servers” at random times. It seems to connect for short bursts and then signs out again. Is everyone getting this?.. +Emily Crees help !!

  • I’m afraid to say online server needs major fix lots of freezing and disconnect issues please fix soon.

  • ^^^ Dont be afraid to say it^^^ i cant even connect to any online matches but i can see a lot of ppl are online.. is it the same for u guys??

  • I just bought it thinking I can play online and I can’t get nothing going. it says that people are online but it always goes to error when I try to do a quick game but it says connections errors. I wish I knew that. I would have not bought it. This sucks. Plus on my NBA 2k14 it erase all my players and PlayStation never try to accommodate nothing.seems like this take the money and don’t care about the problems.

  • Todays error message reads: “Failed to detect a valid connection”……. My network is working great for everything except this game….. What happened to Emily Crees? …VooFoo said: “We at VooFoo Studios are intensely proud of our games – and our next game in the Pure series is no different.” Cmon now.. really guys?

  • Would be nice if the servers didn’t continually fail

  • How to play against a CPU YOU, or anyone else using DNA
    1. From main list, choose RANKINGS
    2. Select yourself or someone else, i suggest one of the top ranked players.
    3. Once selected press the button to “Download DNA”
    4. Return to main list, choose PLAYERS, use L1 to select the LOCAL PLAYERS (mainly CPU Players)
    5. Scroll down until you locate the user you previously downloaded DNA. Then choose challenge.
    6. You are now playing a DNA version of yourself or whomever you downloaded.

in Pure Pool, DNA is created from data from the play style of the human who plays that username. Your DNA is constantly being enriched as you play, so the longer you play the more “like you” your DNA becomes, i do not know if the downloaded DNA’s update so you may want to re-download them from time to time to get the latest version. I think challenging your own DNA version of yourself is a unique way to see your own strengths and weaknesses, as a training aid.

I do not work for the makers of Pure Pool, I am a fan.

  • is this game compatible with the ps4 camera and move controller

  • Looks fantastic! Little hard to judge shots with a lot of green, but the physics seen to be right on. Having same problem as everyone else with not being abl

  • CRAP!…as I was saying, not able to connect to Pure Pool servers. Other than the same music playing over and over, I’m lovin’ the game so far. If there is a way to change the music please let me know. My ears are leaking this red liquid. ….Oh! It’s BLOOD!!

  • I see now why there was hush hush over this game and why they didn’t want to answer the important questions. I’m so glad I fought the urge. This pile will be in the IGC very soon and even then I’m probably gonna have to pass. If they can’t get excited for their own game, why should I?

  • The Server error is terrible. I can’t get a game in with Online players. It is the whole reason I bought this. I am sure it will be fixed but as of today this is NOT FUN. The game is good and I was having a good time until the server started failing every 30 seconds. PLEASE FIX.

  • Server errors are a massive issue. Seems they were not ready for anyone to actually use this game. Here are my thoughts about this game… seems like others feel the same…
    1. Looks and reacts great
    2. Need a better way to line up distant shots
    3. Music gets old fast and would be nice if I could stream my own music… (oh yeah, DLNA does NOT EXIST for the PS4)
    4. Online server errors are going to kill this game quickly if they are not addressed

  • Should probably consider toning the difficulty down. I don’t think Amateur difficulty should have computer players sinking every single shot and winning before I even get a chance to shoot. I rated this game just horrible for that sole reason. Maybe once you are at Master I can see, but I don’t find it too fun when the first computer players are crushing me so bad that I can’t get more than 1 shot in. I don’t know about anyone else, but when I play pool in real life, I don’t tend to have friends that can crush every ball in a 8-ball game in 1 go and consider themselves an amateur player.

  • “There was an error connecting to the Pure Pool servers”

    When will the patch ?

  • I guess it’s the routine, releasing half-complete games and patching them up to 75%.
