Hey everyone! Jamie Cheng here, founder of Klei Entertainment. I’m happy to announce a few cool things: first is that Don’t Starve: Giant Edition is coming to PS Vita on September 2nd!
Here are some key details you’ll want to know:
- The Giant Edition costs $14.99, and includes the Reign of Giants expansion. This expansion is usually $4.99, and we’ve bundled it in for everyone. It includes new characters, seasons, biomes, and other challenges that will happily kill you.
- Unfortunately, in order for us to get the game on Vita, we had to rewrite a bunch of backend code to optimize it. Because of this, the save games are not compatible with PS4, so there is no cross play.
- BUT! We love you all, so we’re making the game cross buy! If you own Don’t Starve on PS4, you get the Vita version for free, and vice versa. Thank you for supporting our game, and please spread the word so we can keep making more interesting games!

Reign of Giants Key Features
- New playable characters: Reign of Giants adds two characters for players to discover and survive with. Play as Wigfrid, a stage actress who went a bit too far with method acting on her latest role, an ancient Valkyrie, or Webber, a young boy who lives inside the spider who tried to eat him long ago.
- Year-round starvation: Struggle through a full year of seasons as you experience the torrential rain falls of spring and the blistering heat of summer.
- A bigger, badder world: New biomes have been filled to the brim with new creatures and gatherables that will either help you survive — or kill you.
- An extra save slot: You asked, we delivered.
- Giants: They’re in the name, for crying out loud!

Also I was hoping much for the cross play. I hope there is going to be any future update to support this.
I don’t know if its possible, but you could try to bring multiplayer mode on ps vita making an available ONLINE PASS on ps store under $4,99 – $9,99.
Would be nice for free. ^^
What time will it be added to the ps vita store?
Just waiting patiently to be able to buy this game when it hits the store. So excited to see one of my favorite games hit the ps-vita. So many good things are on it now!
It is up on the store now, but despite having the PS4 IGC version, it is showing up as $14.99 for me. Anybody who owns the DLC for PS4 seeing it as free? That would confirm the suspicion that the DLC is required for cross buy.

I believe we have been led astray. I have also bought it on PSN and it wants me to pay again for the Vita. I can only see an option to download it to a PS4.

I think if you download dlc for 4.99 on u r ps4 you can dl on vita free. :) I will try after work!
For all of you wondering, I have the game from the free PS+ deal and I had purchased the DLC, the Vita version is still showing up as 14.99.

It wasn’t showing up free for me either. I had free ps4 from plus and i bought expansion. I logged into psn store on the browser. Search for Don’t Starve. There will be a Console Edition + Reigns Expansion. Shows up free. Purchase it. Then the vita one becomes free. Idk if it will work without having bought the expansion for ps4 for those who have the ps plus ps4 free.
Xang is right. you have to log in on the ps4, go to the store, redownload what you already purchased (it will be free), then the Vita version will be free as well.
Okay so mine doesn’t let me download my original Don’t Starve it won’t let me buy the CE+Reigns because I have already purchased the original title and It says I have to rebuy the Vita edition. GG Sony.
For those of you, that are finding it through psn website; do you have giants editions bought in console? I can not find it but I also just have the basic game.

Got it, bought giants add on in ps4 dl to vita via psn website.
I have the ps4 version and the dlc but its still charging me for the vita version what do i do about this
Ah so that is the problem then. I don’t have a ps4 anymore. I guess because of that I have to rebuy the game then. Wish they would have specified that. :/

Hey there. I don’t have the expansion. I just bought it on sale (even though I don’t have a PS4 yet) with the understanding that when the Vita version was released, I could download it for free. It was mentioned earlier that if you bought PS4 you’d get VIta for free and vice versa. Since there was a pre-order sale…I just got it for PS4 thinking PSN would just KNOW that I owned one and could download the other. I wish someone official would sound off on whether I’m screwed or not. I don’t have a PS4 to download it to but PSN DOES see that I have already purchased the base game. I didn’t buy any DLC. Just the base game when this post came out way way on August 25.

@Dahorsh it seems you need to redownload it on your PS4 for it to register. This sucks as I don’t own a PS4 anymore but It would have been cool for them to make this clear…

going to pick up a new €20 card on my way home. I didn’t see Don’t Starve yesterday in EU, but I bet it’ll be there now. I can’t wait. Thanks a lot again for bringing this to vita.
This is the reason that I will always play games on Playstation first. I got Don’t Starve on PS4 when it went free for PS+ but was not able to play it because I can’t afford a PS4 just yet (college and all) BUT I do have a Vita (which I love more than humans) so you have no idea how incredibly cool this is for me to also get the game for no charge with ps+ so I can now finally enjoy this masterpiece I have been dying to play since its initial release.
