PS Plus: Preview September’s Free Game Lineup

There’s a little bit of déjà vu going on as our PlayStation Plus members will once again receive two games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store – Velocity 2X on PS4 and Joe Danger’s release on PS Vita. Of course, there are other great titles including Sportsfriends on PS4, PS All Stars Battle Royale and Hoard on PS3 and TxK on PS Vita.

On PS4, Plus members will be able to download Velocity 2X and Sportsfriends. Velocity 2X is the sequel to Velocity Ultra and features arcade shooting and puzzle platforming with a cool teleportation mechanic. Sportsfriends is the perfect title to complement your parties, as it features 4 mini-games – BaraBariBall, Hokra, Super Pole Riders and Johann Sebastian Joust– to bring out the competitive side in everyone.

For PlayStation 3 owners, you can nab PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, the game where you can get together with friends and pit PlayStation characters like Sly Cooper and Kratos against each other. And Hoard, an action-strategy title where you’ll play as a dragon attempting to get as much gold as possible.

PlayStation Vita owners can pick up Joe Danger for the first time on the platform and enjoy some good old fashioned stunt racing, as well as TxK, a remake of the classic arcade shooter Tempest.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting September 2nd. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video below.

  • Velocity 2X looks interesting.

  • Kristine, Sly Cooper isn’t in the survey and it’s one of the games I’m super delighted to have. It made the month for me! Thanks!

  • Totally agree with Pariah_Dark
Personally I like the indy games because I don’t have time for games like I used to. Those indies are quick and often times more impactful in story and/or content than some AAA games. They fit my lifestyle better and I’m sure that’s true for others as well.
After September the AAA games should start rolling in starting with Destiny. Just a few more weeks and your PS4 purchases should be justified :)

  • TERRIBLE MONTH AHEAD! Glad good new retail games are finally coming out.

  • Let’s face it. The console makers are so in love with indie games precisely because it provide a cheap way for them to shovel “free” games are us under their subscription plans without affecting their bottom line as much.

If not for indie games, we’d have much better Plus and GwG offers, like we USED TO.

  • ps plus is a waste of money for the ps4

  • “First off, just because a game is “indie” doesn’t make it crap.”

Lol, yes it does. Indie games are just cheap filler that Sony is using until the real games start coming out. Indies are a fad that will die off by mid to late next year.

  • been meaning to pick up all-stars…..and a few of the others look ok too….good deal.

  • Very disappointing month. I was rather impressed with the past 2 months (after being disappointed with several straight months before that) and now back to disappointment. The only game here that interests me even in the very least is PS All-Stars which I already have.

  • Meh nothing this month that I am excited about.

Sports Friends is a great game and very fun at parties, but since I own it already – I’m going to play Metro Redux instead. Better luck next month.

  • this is why sony gets attacked. people like myself pay good money for a playstation plus membership, and we keep getting crap for the ps4. it has been almost a year now. it’s time to get a real game, free, for my ps4. if i knew it was going to be an indie games console, i would have never bought it. one year later and i’m thoroughly disappointed in having bought the one-year playstation plus membership.

  • Each month ps+ gets worse. Another disappointing month for ps4 owners

  • i should have just said what 205 did… i just expanded upon it.

  • nothing for me this week but hey its free games i dont mind getting them.. ill probably try velocity thats all.. idk why ppl whine about getting free games some months yull like it some months you wont either way youre getting some games on Sony

  • Trash this month smh… Where’s Miami Vice for the PS4?

  • Great update! Can’t wait! I’m looking forward to play these games next month. Thanks Sony!

  • PlayStation All Stars!!! I already have the game but can’t wait to see some fresh faces online. I hope one day there’ll be a sequel.

  • First month of about 18 months of PS Plus that I am disappointed.

  • Thanks for the diverse licensed content this month SCEA. It will compliment my retail purchases for this month. Velocity 2x crossbuy is pretty sweet. Vita releases are pretty nice as well; I’m liking this trend of crossbuy. I’m looking forward to grabbing some extra controllers and trying out sport friends with local players! It may also force me to get Rayman Legends for PS4 (D3:UE too!) .

The recent sales and plus discounts have been pretty good. More gamers should realize this and enjoy the flood of new titles coming out this month. Also Mega man X4-X6 being released as a digital PS1 classic next week, is pretty dope. It gives me hope for more classics to be released.

Between all this, Destiny and catching up in D3, I’ll be quite busy! Not to mention attending TGS 2014.

  • hey sony , what about Metal Gear Solid V : GROUND ZEROES and LEGO MARVEL ? what about some AAA games ? NO you will never give us AAA … just indies … i’m So tired od this …

  • Weak.

Most Playstation owners have already purchased All-Stars, Hoard is ancient… Bought it last year on Steam for 30 cents, and the rest… Meh. V2X is probably the strongest title left but it’s not really that amazing.

PS Plus is becoming about as good as Xbox Games With Gold.

  • vita game are meh

  • I don’t have a PS4 or PS Vita so I could care less what they get but it’s now 2 months in a row with nothing I care about being offered for PS3. Which is kind of a blessing in disguise since I have such a massive backlog.

So I guess I should say, “Thanks for sucking the last 2 months!”

  • this is AWFUL! WHERE IS HELLDIVERS, HOTLINE MIAMI 2, APOTHEON, SECRET PONCHOS, OR N++?!!!!!!!

  • yay more Indies (read: sarcasm).

PlayStation All Stars is the only game listed I’d even have interested in, if I hadn’t bought it months and months ago. Seriously, PS+ has sucked (other than Dragon’s Crown) for the past 4 or 5 months. We dont even get good sales on Vita anymore (I dont give a crap about Indie sales). I see no reason to keep my Plus membership when it lapses in a couple months. Each month is a disappointment.

GIVE US SOME DIVERSITY and stop shoving Indies down out throats! Indies are great, some people enjoy them. Offering them isnt a big deal, *if they are offered in addition to other types of games*.

    On a scale of 1 to 10, this month’s IGC gets a 1.5

  • The only game that interest me is the only game I have. Sigh.

  • Velocity 2X!! Is the Vita release the same time as the PS4 release?

It’s about time PSASBR was IGC, though I already own it. It’s certainly a fun game.

  • I think this is a great free game line up!! Buuuuuut All-stars has been out played on a discount level.. great game but I think I just bought it for $5 and got both ps3 and the Vita versions..
Other then that I’m SUPER excited about September line up!!!!! Thanks!

  • Worst monthly lineup of the year, HANDS DOWN. Swear on my life, I have never heard of any of these titles.

  • I’m not too happy about this line up. oh well, better luck next month

people need to quit whining already bc you whine about indie and AAA the same “oh it’s just like assassins creed!”, “wah! why can’t they make something original”. indies or AAA both have something to offer and I prefer constant stream of indie games then having to wait some X months for AAA games. if you don’t like your FREE games, don’t download it. end of story. keep it moving

  • I am all for trying out new games, but this month has to be the WORST month for PS Plus ever. Nothing on this list even remotely interests me. The problem I have with indies is that there has been an absolute flood of them on the gaming market.

If it wasn’t for Plus being needed to play online on the PS4, I would have my brother cancel his subscription (we share the sub).

  • So you must have ps plus for ps4 for what? indie games. I’m selling my ps4 so I can have my games back on ps3 and where plus means something and free to play online. And let’s be clear I can play 95 % of the same games on ps3 and play the games that are free on ps3 that you are trying to make ps4 owners rent on ps now

  • pretty weak man…….

  • Booooooo urns

  • PS Plus has officialy become a bad joke. This is the lousiest lineup in almost 2 years since I’ve had Plus. And this whole PS4 indiefest has got to stop. Or at least give us some worthy titles like last month’s Fez, or Rogue Legacy. It’s pretty clear Sony is hoping everyone will be using Plus no matter how awful the monthly lineup is, as Destiny is coming out this month, and, well, you need Plus to play it. But, still, that’s no excuse to completly ruin this service.

Your taste in games are atrocious if PS All Stars is the only game you would have interest in on that list. PS All Stars is awful and Assasins Creed is a bro game.

Velocity 2x is free with plus for the vita. Do you speak english mother******

  • another terrible month, ps+ sux :/

  • I’m really excited for Velocity 2X! That alone makes September worth the money. The rest of the lineup is very sad though. I don’t see myself spending much time at all with the others. That’s okay though. I won’t have time to play once school starts.

  • I’d have to say that this is the first month where I’ve been fully disappointed since I’ve had Plus.

  • Welp the only good game is sony all stars battle rumble, and I already have it so this month is a total bomb. Let’s hope October is better.

  • I have to say.. What happens to people that buy most games that come out and have PS3? For the past few months there’s been pretty much nothing for me :/ Except for the VITA which I don’t have

  • Awesome month!! I am so excited for Velocity 2x and TxK!! If Velocity 2x lives up to the brilliance of Velocity Ultra, then it’s gonna be the best game available to play on ps4 so far!

To the people complaining… my condolences to you on your joyless existence.

  • This is absolutely the worst month in the entire history of the IGC.

You refuse to listen to your customers. You refuse to stop “supporting” your newest console with indie crap that NO ONE WANTS.

Just look through the comments. Just look at how many of us are saying the exact phrase ‘indie crap’, or ‘indie garbage’.

We’re sick of it. I used to just download everything that the IGC offered, just to have it, but I don’t want to send you the wrong message, Sony. I don’t want you to imagine that I actually like, or would play, most of the garbage you’ve dumped on us this year.

As I always say, January paid for my subscription for the whole year, essentially. That said, having maybe two or three good months out of the first nine months of this year isn’t all that great.

PLEASE stop with the indie crap. I’m getting to the point where I don’t know if I am going to renew next year.

  • I think PS+ is declining in quality more and more.
Not that is a bad thing by itself. Been a member for a long time, I know it’s qualities. But what is see happening here is discounts there aren’t discounts enought (sometimes a $1 dollar discount that is good for people to remember those games) and the PS+ collections are old games that went on sale numerous times before.
I think, by now, they could shut down IGC and improve those discounts. My opinion.

  • Another solid update.

TxK – A GREAT game on the Vita.

Joe Danger Vita – An extremely polished game in the vein of Excitebike. It’s well-loved on the PS3, and it’s going to be great on the Vita.

PSASBR – Criminally underappreciated. The single-player mode isn’t too special, but the multiplayer is frantic and fun. It’s not a top-tier fighter like Super Smash Bros., but it’s still a great game.

Velocity 2x – One of the more hotly anticipated games for the PS4’s digital library. It’s going to be great. Several publications said it was one of the best games at E3 this year.

Hoard – Another gem from the PSN digital library. It’s an action-strategy game where you get to be a dragon. The multiplayer is fantastic.

Sportsfriends – The most hit-or-miss game in the update since your mileage will vary based on whether or not you have the gear to play J.S. Joust — easily one of the coolest party games you’ll ever introduce to your friends. The other games are love-em or hate-em affairs.

Give them all a try before you complain.

  • SHOVELWARE pretty much sums this month’s IGC along with most of the year’s IGC since PS Plus became mandatory on the latest console and the IGC format change. The last couple months I’ve gotten more use out of the competition’s giveaway games on the latest generation which is pretty sad when you consider it’s only been 2 games a month on theirs compared to 6 games on Playstation’s side since I own all the PS platforms

  • Hurray for Velocity 2X !!!
Awesome collection for PS4 and Vita.
Vita is getting 4 … FOUR games in September!
    THANK YOU!!!

I feel sorry for people with PS3 only tho.
But hey, don’t be so shocked; you know PS+ is a roller coaster.

  • Pretty decent selection. I’ve been looking forward to Velocity, and have always wanted to try Hoard and PASBR. The only game I own is TxK, which is fun and trippy… but hard as hell. I haven’t had much interest in Sportsfriends, as my Wii U fills all my local multiplayer needs, but I’ll try it out.

However, the addition of Joe Danger irks me. We got Joe Danger 2 over a year ago as a freebie, and now we’re getting a port of the original. It seems like a step backwards… like if we we were to get the original Velocity a year from now. I release the port is technically a new Vita release, but it still bugs me.

  • Many predicted that saints row 4 was going to be one of the free games… i will never trust the internet again

  • So does anyone know if the Vita and PS3 version of PASBR share the same server for multiplayer. I’m leaning towards mostly playing on the Vita, but not if I can’t play against PS3 users online…..
