Destiny: Preload Now and Prepare for Tuesday
Destiny

Hi everybody – Since we’re just days away from the launch of Destiny on PS4 and PS3, I wanted to let you know that the game is now available for pre-load on PlayStation Store in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.

This means if you’ve pre-ordered Destiny digitally via PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to begin downloading the game on PS4 or PS3 starting now. Once you’ve downloaded the game, you’ll be ready for the official Destiny launch this Tuesday, September 9th.

Here are your options for pre-loading Destiny:

  • Take no action; Destiny will begin automatically downloading, provided that “auto-download” has been enabled on your PS4 or PS3. Over the next few days, your system will check for updates and the game will begin downloading by Monday, in time for the release on Tuesday.
  • If you can’t wait until then, you can enable the download manually. In PlayStation Store, navigate to the Destiny game page and click the “download” button. If you haven’t yet preordered, you can preorder and then begin downloading.

The game won’t be available to play until 12:00am Pacific Time / 3:00am Eastern Time on September 9th, but you’ll be ready for the ultimate Destiny experience on PlayStation.

Have a great weekend!

  • It’s not the end of the world for me but it is BS that I do have to wait for 12am PST to play my game. I know this will be the last time I go digital.

  • @87, 94, 95. You sure seem to be crying a lot yourself. Entitled? Listen to your post about how Bungie “needs” to give you a free ps3 version. Bungie doesn’t need to give you anything. You ordered the ps4 version and that’s what you will get. And telling people they need to focus on school? Your grammar skills are so poor in these blogs that I think you are the one who needs to focus on school. (To vs too). Lol. Anyway I look forward to playing this game at midnight when I pick up my copy at the store.

  • Yeah haskell420 kinda the same here. I preordered early on ps4 over a month ago on my MAIN PSN ACCOUNT not this one and now they throw out there that if I had preordered on ps3 I’d of got the ps4 version free on Psn. In your case its not the disc version that is the deal man. So you can’t be mad thats just the way it goes. This is a digital only deal not a buy disc and get digital free ordeal. Doesn’t work like that sad to say. But i my situation its a big slap in my face, its screwing me out the ps3 version now unless I buy it and thats not fair when others bought it for ps3 and gets it on ps4 free as digital. They need to give us ps4 digital buyers the ps3 digital version free to.

  • Hahahaha look at all the fools crying about waiting 3 WHOLE HOURS for greatness. . .

You people make me laugh. You and your stupid first world problems. Enjoy playing Destiny, at 3AM!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • Is it to late to cancel my preorder? I rather buy disk and play same time it is released with my friends. it is complete bull**** that i have to wait 3 hours after launch.

  • Its a shame that this will be my first and last time buying Digital for a AAA game

  • lol. You mad bro. Just pointing out your hypocrisy. You yell at some people for crying and then you do the same. Try taking your own advice. The point of the promotion is that people who have ps3 can get a ps4 version later when they buy a ps4. You ALREADY have a ps4, so the promotion doesn’t apply to you.

  • Anyways back to this game…. Its awesome and those of you whining that you’re not buying disc no more well be stupid. I will continue to enjoy my digital game purchases only and enjoy preserving my laser and making my consoles last years and years without no worries of having to ship them into sony over a burnt out bluray laser. All I have to worry about is buying a new hard drive and easy hard drive swap out in case it goes bad on me. I’ll never have to lose my console over a refurbished one back like sony does when ya ship yours into them and no weeks of waiting and jus had to order or go pick up the hard drive and fix it myself. So again.., have fun when that bluray laser stops working lol.

  • First and last digital order for me. -1 Sony.

  • Would you like some cheese with that whine? It doesn’t apply to you.

  • I will be playing with them come Monday night at midnight. I will be playing on my PHYSICAL copy before you… lol

  • All you guys raging about the time difference.. it’s an ONLINE GAME, you can’t even play until bungie hits the on switch on the servers. Digital or physical makes no difference.

  • That said, can someone clarify
If the servers are on at 5am Pacific on 9/8
Does that mean there is something with PSN that prohibits us from playing until 9/8 at midnight Pacific?
Because honestly THEN YES I would be a bit upset because I’m sighed up for a bit of a time sensitive competition of sorts. I would be at a disadvantage if I had to start later than everyone else.

  • This is a massive mistake by Bungie and PSN. We are your most profitable customers. We are the loyal fans who have already conceded that we will not sell our game, nor will we require you to pay for shipping and production costs for the physical game.

This delay opens us up to having the plot of the game spoiled for us. It also makes the midnight release of this game meaningless. As an east coast gamer, I can not stay up past 3am to play this game. We should not be at a disadvantage to those who have preordered physical copies of the game.

This invalidates the advantage of having preloading. You have damaged your reputation and cut into your own profits by hurting the customers who are most profitable.

    Make this right!

  • Yes, the game will have the servers turned on when New Zeland hits midnight on the 9th. That means that those of us who did a digital copy will be denied access until Playstation allows the unlock. And I have to say, I agree that I totally regret getting the digital version now. I prefer to get a physical copy in most cases, but I didn’t think anyone would get a disk prior to Tuesday. Now I am finding out that a ton of people will have access at something like noon on Monday because they got a physical copy of the disk already (and not just people in New Zeland).

It is possible that Sony will do something to address this, but I don’t think that it will happen. Next time I’ll just stick with a pre-order from my local Gamestop.

  • When will gamers get to pre-load their physical pre-orders? No reason loyal PS customers shouldn’t have the right to pre-load a game and then have it unlock when they insert the disk? Last I checked, the Ghost Edition isn’t a digital download.

  • 1st and last digital purchase. Good job Sony.

  • Extremely disappointed in that fact that because I live on the East coast I cannot play with my friends at midnight that buy the physical copy. Taking it as a lesson learned to always read the fine print. But will most likely not be getting digital downloads in cases where my game won’t work before a certain time.

  • Due to a lackluster line-up of first-year releases this console generation, Destiny is the first game I have preordered for my PlayStation 4. Sure, some interesting titles have come – Infamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and some solid downloadables like Resogun, Fez, and Mercenary Kings – but nothing that really commanded my $59.99 or an early adopter preorder.

All I can really say is: Thank goodness for WARFRAME for holding the line until now.

  • Asinine. This is not exactly the best way to promote the “convenience” aspect of digital downloads. Seems counter-intuitive to give no reason why purchasers of digital copies have to wait longer when one of the main benefits of digital purchases is “instant” access. Oh well, lesson learned I suppose. Going forward I will choose the convenience of a retailer not reliant on poor decision making and minimal regard for customer service.

  • PS: My girlfriend and I will totally buy a second PlayStation 4 if you guys pursue a solid MAG2 release this generation.

Zipper mismanaged the buhgeezuss out of that game, but it’s a solid IP. A lot of people want more than small squad FPS games or the Fun Size snack that Call of Duty cranks out year after year.

    MAG2, Sony. Seriously.

  • If you want Bungie and PSN to make this right and change the start time to when we should be able to play the game we paid for tweet @Playstation @Bungie @AskPlaystation @DeeJ_BNG

Let’s get this fixed before Monday!

  • I will not be buying a digital game off of PSN again. Why would I pay the same amount to play a game later then the people who bought physical copies and they receive a physical copy.

  • tweet campaign! use hashtag #DestinyGate @Playstation @Bungie @AskPlaystation @DeeJ_BNG

  • People….Waiting until 3AM to play a game really isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Even if the digital game did unlock at 12AM EST, plenty of people will probably be already ahead of you anyway. We’ve had launches much like this (even outside of PlayStation) and most of those weren’t big deals.

  • Also I wish people would stop swearing off of buying digital games on PSN just because of one single incident. (and that goes for anything else at retailers, too, even outside of gaming)

  • WoW…Looks like there’s plenty of Wine to go with the cheese i brought.

  • Let us all play at 12midnight even if were all in different time zones . plants vs zombies let us do it , i play PvZ at exactly 12midnight , and in destiny it says that i will have to wait till 4 AM !!

  • So let me get this straight , madden 139 midnight release but not Destiny? Wow Sony, way to f*** up one of the biggest launches of the year. Hope psn doesnt crash. If I would of known this I would of never bought this game off of psn :(

  • I’d rather have it digital…i actually returned my pre-order today so i could predownload it, avoid a midnight hassle (no telling if the disc will have to load a bunch of data onto the PS4) and play when i can.
I can tell you when i installed BF4…it took a while to install from the Hard copy disc….so disc buyers may not have too much an advantage.
What if you disc goes bad, or your blu-ray drive goes bad…etc. You ALWAYS own a digital copy.

  • Listen my story dear SONY ……I cancel my reservation on a REAL store because YOU got me with your publicity on the ps store. The publicity is pre-load destiny 9/7 AND PLAY 9/9 IN A MIDNIGHT LAUNCH but for me 3 A.M is a MORNING LAUNCH…its the first time I preorder a game on the ps store and ITS THE LAST TIME FOR ME thanks sony.

  • Same thing @reelnerd , Never going to buy digital again. Sony big fail.

  • I do have to agree with everyone else that it’s uncool the other time zones are forced to wait until it’s midnight Pacific Time. I would have appreciated being able to play it when it was midnight on the East Coast.Of upi cam gove is a valid reason as to why we have to wait that doesn’t amount to “We said so”, I (and I’m sure others) would appreciate that. That said, I’m looking forward to the launch. I hope any future pre-orders I make via PSN will not suffer this same needles restriction.

  • @132
It’s not that most of us posting on here to complain on the delayed release for EDT are against digital, the fact that we purchased Destiny digitally is proof that we support it. The problem is that we should have access at 12 am EDT. Sure you can argue that it is only 3 hours of delay, but one of the key selling points (along with the other benefits of digital vs hard copy preorders) is that we don’t have to wait in line at midnight releases and would have access as soon as midnight strikes in our timezone.

I for one was hoping that come midnight EDT, I could dip my feet in Destiny’s waters for an hour or two before I went to sleep because I find the game enjoyable enough to sacrifice a ‘couple’ hours of sleep. But to play from 3 am to 4 or 5 am, for a lot of us is out of the question due to real life commitments.

  • (Cont’d)
It is poor business ethics to single out players in EDT region, when we put our trust and support in Sony, Playstation, and Digital Preorders, commitments should be kept on their part.

Yes, I along with others should have scanned the fine print, that was our mistake. Now that I have a better understanding of what a Sony, Playstation, Digital Preorder really entails, I as a consumer will never make that mistake again.

With that said, if this or future releases change it so that EDT players have access at 12 am EDT, then I will continue to support Digital Preorders.

  • When I preordered in june the fine print said, “Be the first to play”.

Must’ve just meant the beta, huh?

Like I said before, I would’ve ordered it from amazon with next day shipping and had it here on monday to play tuesday night for sure after work if I knew they weren’t serious about “12am pst being a holder time” and it was the actual time.

A lot of us preordered it way before it was finalized to be 12am pst. Shouldn’t be bent over because of it, and definitely shouldn’t be blatantly lied to either. Be the first to play it my (???).

  • Watch Dogsdigital release was also slated for 3am est for download on the psn and they changed it to 12 midnight, so I know they are capable of changing the time. Its just bad form not to at least try to honor paying customers or at least respond to some of these posts. Now Im a sony supporter, but its times like these where people have to speak up and say something, cause its totally backwards to try to sell someone on digital download then basically tell everyone who did so that they can play the game sooner by actually going out and getting the game by making the digital adapters wait. Brilliant.

  • You have GOT to be kidding me.
I will NEVER pre-order a digital game, Destiny being my first,
    and now, last digit.
Turn the game on when the game STARTS, NOT TWENTY
    hours later.

  • Yeah, I gotta dump on this one too. A Pacific time zone midnight launch in theory isn’t too bad, but in practice it means that most NA regions will not be getting a midnight launch at all. If I was in the Pacific time zone, I could conceivably get the game at midnight, and play for a couple hours before I would really need to sleep for the next day, but in Eastern time zone, getting the game at 3am, and playing for two hours is… I don’t need to explain this. Everyone gets it, right?

The Eastern time zone basically will be waiting till after work on Sept 9th to start playing, having a midnight launch in name only.

Plus, why is the entire country’s midnight launch based on one time zone? It can’t be about fairness since people buying physical copies will all be able to start playing as soon as they get their games.

This needs to change, if not for Destiny, then in the near future.

  • Please fix the time zone!!! It messed up I spent 90 dollars and can’t even play at midnight like it says.. instead I have to wait till 3am??? Not cool

  • I’ll add the hundredth comment on here decrying the nonsense of making east coasters wait until 3:00am to play. Any of us could walk into a local walmart and pick up a physical copy of the game at midnight and be home playing by 12:30. Players who preordered digitally did so as an act of good faith that the product would be good — Sony doesn’t allow refunds on digital orders; the least they could do is have the courtesy to not annoy loyal customers with arbitrary delays.

  • For the most part i’m joining the disappointed group, yes it doesn’t hurt to wait another 3 hours; however, I have friends that will be picking the physical copy up and wanting to play for a few hours together before we hit the hay… this pretty much eliminates that possibility.

Bungie has been teasing the fact that they will be launching the servers worldwide at the same time, and Sony should be on board with that, so yes there is room for us to complain about this.

  • Are people serious? This game will last every player months, and will be supported for years. I was excited about playing at midnight, too, but even if I don’t get to, that SAME DAY I’ll be able to play. I had a physical PS4 preorder at gamestop, which sucked, ’cause all my friends have only PS3s. Now, Bungie decided they’re gonna give me the BOTH versions of the game, one for free, and all I have to do is wait three hours longer than I had planned to. In what world is it fair to ***** about that?

  • If the servers are gonna be up 8am Monday I see no reason why the game can’t be released then.

  • I can’t believe I have to wait to download it till 3am eastern. Overall your losing money from digital purchases doing this. Next time I won’t buy digital and play at 12am.

  • Why do I have to wait longer than people with a physical copy?

  • So physical copies are going to be playable before 3 am but not digital. Isn’t the whole point of the pre download to be able to play faster? Way to drop the ball Sony.

  • Well Sony, you fooled me once you wont fool me again. I had pre-ordered a hard copy from my local game store but the practicality of pre-ordering and pre-loading a game I was looking forward to so intensely led me to preorder the digital copy and cancel my hard copy. Now, after canceling my hard copy and finishing my download I find that I won’t be able to play said game until three hours after it released? Not taking into account the initialization of the updates or whatever else might come up between now and release. I’m left with no choice but to think I made a bad call dealing with the PSN.

  • #148 – Yes, if you have a disc you can play when you get back from picking it up at midnight. Digital MUST wait until 3 AM EST.

Over 900 votes with a 1.25 rating. Here’s to hoping they get the message that this is nonsense.

  • What bigger nonsense is crying like entitled pr!cks over such a stupid manner. Maybe this will be a good thing for you idiots, stop staying up at late hours of the night just to play video games. I’ve never seen such a collective group of morons crying over a game. Stop buying video games from the PSN. Stop playing video games period.
