Driveclub Update
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

Hi everyone. As many of you are already aware, the DRIVECLUB team has made the decision to postpone the release of the PlayStation Plus Edition due to multiplayer connectivity issues following the game’s launch yesterday in North America and today in much of Europe. See here for a full statement on the situation from Evolution Studios.

The team is working around the clock to rectify these problems, and we apologize both for the delay in delivering the PS Plus Edition and for any difficulty that you may have connecting to the game’s multiplayer servers.

For live updates on the situation direct from the studio, visit the team’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.

  • Any PS Plus subscriber is a paying customer, support them, Sony. You said a year and a half ago the Plus edition would be “minus a few cars and tracks” (actually you promoted the game developer who said that), and spent a full year advertising it as such.

Anybody with PS Plus already paid for the Plus edition, and you said the Plus edition would be “at launch”. If you meant the PS4 launch, you are a year late, and if you meant the game’s launch you just seem to be shafting paying Plus members for more money.

  • This is getting annoying. I can get on for a few minutes each morning and then it would appear that once they have closed shop in Europe that the servers are down again. There is other racing games coming out in the next month or two. I am seriously thinking about taking this one back and getting whatever I can as trade-in towards the purchase of a different game. Waiting almost a year for this to release and then not having it working to it’s full potential is just not acceptable. As a single player game it is not worth the $60+ that was paid for it in pre-order. As it stands I might have paid half of that and been satisfied.

  • @Drtran64,
Well now if u would l d c the little gold cross by my Nick when u decided to say I don’t hAve an I.Q is snott well I have been a PlayStation Plus subscriber since its conception look it up and no kidding it’s not free but what I am saying is I bought this game did u no I pre-order this game I want to get my money’s worth now for u people that just want the “free” copy to play to me they don’t need to worry about getting that put back up they need to fix this bloody game b4 they talk about putting the free game back up

  • Anoying as hell next time give it to polyphony digital they can do a far better racing game

  • Two words: Beta Test!

  • Wow Sony and Evolution….you just messed up Driveclub’s launch completely….I mean for real….you should be concentrating all your time and efforts on Sony exclusives and yet you guys keep giving attention to multiplat games which is a shame..cough Destiny cough.Anyway Driveclub already failed, this mess will hardly get cleaned up….I’ll still buy the game at some point though…it looks pretty good.

BTW is it true that weather effects aren’t available yet?

  • This game was scheduled for launch with the ps4 last year. Almost a year later and they are still having issues!!! WOW!

  • If the delay to the free version was because of server problems, then you knew the servers wouldn’t be able to handle the traffic BEFORE the launch because the PS Plus Edition was never put on the store. So what’s the deal? You knew before your servers were inadequate even though you took an extra year to prepare? Or did you never put the PS Plus Edition because you wanted people to buy before trying, like many others have suggested in comments above? Either way, it’s not looking too good for DriveClub, Evolution Studios or Sony.

  • 1-I bought the retail physical copy because I was really anticipating Driveclub and I was aware that the PS+ version would delay because “reasons”.

Well, case in point, I AM TRYING REALLY HARD to like this game. Really, really…

Pros: No Nonsense, No frills visuals and gameplay. Looks cinematically gorgeous in remote play (in the big TV rig, not so much, but its still a beautiful game to look at). CONT>

  • 2- CONT>
Cons: The AI is unbearable, it is really punitive in a awful way. In 2 days, Im still trying to test the online/community aspects of this game, error messages all the time. The update only downloaded for me in like the 100th time I’ve tried. For a game that is all about community, that’s just outraging. There is a lot of capricious game design decisions that are just unbelievable in a game this big. This is an unfinished game! You guys had ONE JOB (where do you guys put the full year delay?).

I think the “free version” was delayed because they wanted to make us purchase the full version without knowing this game is unfinished. In the end, Im glad I’ve purchased a physical copy because I can sell it or trade for a finished game. BUT, I will still wait for some update that can really fix this game, because probably I’m a moron.

  • COntinued from comment 208…

And all of this could have been avoided, ONCE AGAIN, with respecting your customers with advanced notice. Communication.

(Like Sony has never heard the request for communication before…)

  • While its nice that they are keeping us informed both Sony and the devs. But you have to admit this seems very and i mean very unprofessional. Just for the fact that it was delayed 11 months. you would think with all that time they could have put a little more effort into this game. Heck during the 11 months they could have done beta to stress-test the servers which im sure other PS+ member would be happy about!
But one thing i really dont get though that makes me feel like this might be some ploy is the fact that the game can still be purchased digitally. one would think if its the server problem any time of way to stop people so they can get to work on the servers or what ever they can do to make the game better so people who may not know about the problem dont waste money for the time being. it just seems weird that its ok to buy the game, but not have the promotion for it as promised!
Im still excited for the game, and if it means waiting some more, i have enough games to keep me occupied. Devs/Sony keep up the great work, and hopefully this can be worked out soon!

  • What a joke. year delay and still problems. Joke joke joke. I was going to buy it but not now. Will not be spending a dime on it.

  • Up to level 21 now and I keep thinking “How many of those points could have been applied to my club IF that feature was available?” Come on guys, this should be an easy fix. Add more servers and away we go.

  • Wow I must spend way to much time having a life to notice that “gamers” have become a bunch of entitled crybabys. While it does suck the PS+ Edition was not there when promised but you make it seem like the end of the world. There are server issues with Driveclub. Should they have been more prepared after a year delay? Yes. Will crying about it all day fix it? No. All the crying that you pay $50 a year for PS+ means one thing: You have plenty of other games you can play until it gets fixed. God knows that if it were working perfectly at launch you would all find something else about the game to complain about. It is sad to see what gamers have become…

  • I bought the PS + 49.99 edition and have been able to play in offline mode.

Haven’t once been able to get online.

I agree with several of the other people here that more Alpha/Beta testing should have occurred than the people that were in the Beta.

We should have had PS + at least the last month to be able to stress test the servers. (I work in IT and we stress test all our new apps).

I’ve been a PS + member since it first started and I realize that it’s now supporting 3 systems.

However, when PS + first started, I had a lot more invites to Betas…seemed to happen every few months.

It’s been a while now that I’ve had that type of invite as a PS + member.

Understand how the vendor and Sony may want to surprise people with the game, but stress testing has to be done or things like this will happen more often.

I see people’s points about paying for PS +, however, think about those of us who actually paid for the game and are also PS + members.

I agree that until the paying customers can get online, the game should be held for others that are getting it free.

Hopefully that won’t be too long.

  • Definitely should have had an open beta. What’s done is done though. The single player has been very fun to go through. Definitely worth the buy. As others have said, the AI is pretty brutal. I’m used to that from Motorstorm and really quite like it. Its a good change from the cupcake soft AI of GT and overall enhances the more arcade nature of the game. Fortunately, the game is very forgiving on the crashes, etc to compensate. Its a much more challenging single player experience.

  • Wow, one reply from Sony. Makes me wish for Major Nelson and Microsoft of all things, that is how bad this is.

  • Worst racing game I have played it’s too bland not fun stuff to do. I grew up playing racing games and, I mean really penalty for hitting another car. They drive into you. This game needs improvement, it has the potential to be great but you guys just didn’t do a good job on the actual entertaining the gamer part of it. It’s a beautiful game but like I said to bland not enough to do.

  • @nano_security_ID – Posting on Facebook in general wouldn’t be a terrible idea (though it still should have gone up on the Blog at the same time). My issue is posting it exclusively on the Driveclub page on Facebook. Which, more than likely, consists of a small fraction of the PS+ members that were expecting the game. Also, the developer shouldn’t have had to make that post. Sony PR should have been on top of it. THAT is how business is supposed to work.

  • i read the reviews. y’all can delay it forever, now, for all i care. i don’t want it anymore. LOL. honestly, i was excited for this game… a year ago, but recently, having lost faith in an industry that fails time and time again to deliver what is promised due multitudes of problems with server support for MOST games, it’s painfully obvious that, though gamers were ready for next-gen gaming, developers sadly were not, and still aren’t,.

  • hEY sID

This is a huge chunck of ka ka and you know it. This PS PLUS Edition was what was talked about 1st when the PS4 was being shopped around to us consumers…. So let me get this straight

It works if you buy it but the PS PLUS “DEMO” doesnt work……. Hmm so all the people who wanted to try the “DEMO” will just buy now…. classy move. almost typical though. Wouldnt want to ruin you record of crappy free games for PS4
But thats a whole other ball of wax….. Sidecrollin 8 bit pixelated garbage you give us on THE MOST POWERFUL Console out…….. Smart. Why not give us KNACK….. or PS NOW…..?

  • Really glad my wife got me an Xbox One for my birthday last month. XB1 for racing and PS4 for baseball and everything else. Doubt I’ll even download the PS Plus version of Driveclub when it hits….whenever that is.

  • how do i get my money back until you fix your server problems and give me what i paid for… was looking forward a really great experience with this game online, should of bought shadow mordor or destiny or something.

  • Just funny that you have all these online issues yet we can still buy the game thru ps store. Game connects automatically to servers , which adds to the issue . Yet there it is still available.
Having a hard time believing that the server issues are the reason the free demo isn’t up.
FYI this has and will hurt your sales from here on out . Absolutely ludicrous .
I also find it funny when people say stuff like “be patient they will fix the broken game” , you all wouldn’t be saying that if it was any other product (cell phone, TV, ect). You would all expect an immediate fix or be asking for your money back.

  • I wonder how many sales Driveclub lost due to this debacle; I know I’m one of them. I was super excited for this game for over a year now, but that excitement has withered and dried up. I plan to play the PS+ edition when it finally comes out, and then never think of this game again.

  • Give the game sometime. Since when was a game that’s mainly online based ever been 100% ready on release date? It’s not like the game is strictly online and is completely unplayable without it. Sure it might be a big portion of the game, but GTA5 is still playable on and offline. Instead of looking at the negatives of the game, and games in general, look at everything they’ve done and how aesthetically beautiful the game is. I see people comparing it to Forza and saying how much better Forza is, don’t. Forza is a different type of racing game. If you really want to do a comparison, do Gran Turismo. I grew up playing GT and haven’t really been satisfied with the recent games, and to me Driveclub fills that void. The other comments I see are how overhyped the game was. Every year when call of duty is released, it is overhyped and what happens? People are let down. That’s nothing new. Battlefield 4 was overhyped and people resorted back to Battlefield 3. I don’t really have an opinion on wether it was “overhyped” or not, I’ll make that decision when I’ve played online, with friends, and have finished the single player events.

  • Is it down or are you waiting on ppl to buy the game…I can imagine offering a free version at launch would cut massively into the copies sold.

  • Thanks for the consumer relations Sony/sarcasm.

  • I’m grateful for the Playstation Plus version so I won’t beat the horse too much, but it will be nice if they keep us updated regularly on their FB page or twitter feeds as advertise

  • Was this message from Evolution or Sony? I can’t believe the developer made this decision, so keep them out of it. It isn’t their netcode, it is the servers you provided for them.

No wonder this game was delayed a year, you treat them like a stepchild for money you don’t have, Sony.

  • Forza horizon 2 is really good…Just sayin.

  • Need my racing fix, just bought a Wii U for Mario Kart and bought an XBOX1 with Forza Horizon….the best $600 I ever spent!!!!….sorry Sony I vote with my wallet

  • I’ll pass on the game. Will definitely try it for free if it becomes available, but will spend my money on Project Cars. PS4 plus is a joke, all free games are weird and not worth playing. Not sure why I bought membership, since I do not play online at all and was hoping to get some playable content for free.

  • Well I planned on getting Driveclub when I brought my PS4 waited almost a year for it to come out and this is what happens. I’m just glad that I didn’t pre-order it and planned on upgrading from ps plus demo version to full version. Thanks to deciding to wait I avoided the mistake that is Failclub. I’ll be taking my money elsewhere as they’re plenty of excellent racing games out and coming out.

  • im so glad sony refunded my money today from this game, vote with your wallets people.

  • Where is the timeframe promised yesterday? It is already… beyond tomorrow.

  • Hahaha using old sales tactics yet again….

This is a classic they basically claim the servers have reached max (to suggest soooo many ppl bought the game the servers cant handle it) all to make it look like if sooo many ppl bought it the game must be good.

Its bullcrap the servers wont be anywhere near max load just typical sony corporate bullcrap yet again. Come on Sony its bad enough you have massively watered down ps+ offerings now that you get more ppl paying for it.

  • Microsoft is launching right now… I feel very disappointed about this

  • Laughing*

  • WOW Sony….I’m losing faith in this now..No AAA titles yet nothing really good every month on the PS+ free games..Destiny was amazing, but one game since launch that’s really been worth the wait..I’m looking to maybe try the dark side of next gen now.How bad can XBone really be!

  • Fix this disaster of a launch, Sony.

Seldomly a game has had so many dev/launch issues as this one.

    Nothing to be proud of.

    Hurry the hell up.

Don’t be so cheap on your servers.

  • I firmly believe this has ruined any chance that Driveclub ever had and kinda given Evolution a bad name and it hasn’t even been a week yet.

  • How about adding an extra driving location to the Plus Version as an apology for the delay and issues?

  • @203 + DizturbedPanther

    your english is bad.

that said, yeah, i guess you are an idiot, because once again, NOTHING IN THE IGC IS FREE. it’s an extended rental agreement….as long as we remain paying subscribers, we can use the content….we cancel, we can’t use.

so no, people aren’t complaining about not getting a free game, they’re complaining about not getting something that’s part of the service they’re paying for. in this case, it’s an indefinite rental, of a somewhat crippled version of a game, with the option to purchase the full thing for a discount.

and the fact remains, whether you bought the digital, or were wanting to give it a try with the PS+ version first, the problem they’re having right now shouldn’t exist….they delayed the game for nearly a year….there’s no excuse for this..

  • I been a Sony fan since PSone but damn this current gen of gamin has been nothing but lies and bull**** excuses. Driveclub released broken and still without dynamic weather almost a year after the initial delay. I’m fed up with all of it! I’m finding it harder and harder to trust you Sony and the entire game industry these days because this is plain bull****. Evolution studios delay PS Plus edition because of server issues but still offer the PS plus discount for it?!

  • @DrTran64

I agree on your comment. GAMES FOR PS PLUS ARENT FREE. IF YOU DOWNLOAD A GAME AND STOP PAYING FOR PS PLUS THE GAME WONT WORK ANYMORE. WHY? CUZ IT WAS JUST A RENTAL SYSTEM AND WASNT FREE. IF IT WERE FREE YOU SHOUL BE ABLE TO PLAY IT EVEN IF YOU STOP PAYING FOR PLUS.

STOP SAYING GAMES ARE FREE ON PLUS.

  • Are people getting their money back from Sony on this? If so, how? I’m tired of waiting for the better part of the money I have spent on this game to materialize. It’s been several days now and what I have for almost $75 spent PLUS what I spend on a PS+ membership has amounted to a serviceable arcade racer with solid controls and nice graphics with almost no depth at all and very little replayability.

  • I’ve just realized that ALL people complaining about Diveclub in this thread are PLUS members.
That says a lot about our disappointment with this title AND with the service. We want BIG games for PS4+, not only some indie novelty.

I will trade my Driveclub copy because Im really thinking this is a scam and I have the right to think so as a consumer. And Im pissed that most of the gaming media are not reporting this mess as they’ve done with another broken titles at launch.
