The Week in PlayStation: Walk the Line

I just made it to the City of Gold in Spelunky for the first time, but I didn’t make it out. :(

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but PSone classic Vib-Ribbon is out now on PS3 and PS Vita. It’s absolutely adorable, and you should play it. You should also read this story from SCEA President and CEO Shawn Layden about how he helped make the game happen.

In other news, PlayStation TV launches on Tuesday and we’ve got a comprehensive FAQ right here on the ol’ PlayStation.Blog, we’re having a party in Vegas (you should totally come!), Square Enix dropped off a fresh trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, you can get some extra in-game cash by pre-ordering Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation Store, Evolve is having “Big Alpha” and you can get in, and I’m finally a pro B-ball star.

Oh, by the way: I finally hit level 30 in Destiny! Now let’s see if I can nab the Trophy for clearing the Vault of Glass without any fireteam members dying…

What are you playing this weekend?

  • I’m playing: Spelunky, Destiny, Minecraft
  • I’m watching: This trailer for Powers
  • I’m listening to: Badbadnotgood

  • There was some localization news from Idea Factory International this week, as Chou Megami Shinkou Noire Gekishin Black Heart (released for PS Vita in Japan back in May) will be heading over to the West early next year as Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart:

    http://www.compileheart.com/noire/
    http://ideafintl.com/noire/

The game is part of the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, but features Lastation’s CPU in an SRPG developed by Sting (rather than being done “in-house” by IF/CH themselves). It’ll include the usual quartet of rival goddesses, as well as 18 new characters “inspired” by various games and genres. (The DLC set for the Japanese edition also includes Sting-chan, a “Maker” inspired by the game’s developers).

At this rate, it looks like each of the outstanding Nepgames still in Japan, such as Chou Jigen Action Neptune U (a Senran Kagura-esque Vita brawler) and the recently announced Kami Ji Jigen Game Neptune Re;Birth3 V Century (a Vita remake of Victory for PS3) will likely be brought over as and when each are gotten around to by IFI.

  • Bait-and-switch is a form of fraud used in retail sales but also employed in other contexts. First, customers are “baited” by merchants’ advertising products or services at a low price, but when customers visit the store, they discover that the advertised goods are not available, or the customers are pressured by sales people to consider similar, but higher priced items (“switching”). sounds like what they did with Driveclub

    @kropodra: High five brah.

In-before-the “you guys are ungrateful #$%#%#@%” people.

Total disappointment for me this week. Looking forward to play the PS Plus Demo of Driveclub (and no I ain’t paying for the full version and yes I could buy it myself and also buy to give it away if I wanted, but it’s a matter of not agreeing with the tactic), and now they ain’t even giving us that. One belated year and they still have trouble with the servers… It’s 2014 not 1991 so no excuses really.

  • Any word on when we will be able to actually download Driveclub?

  • honkayjeezus

I seem to remember something about Driveclub, Justin!!! Why aren’t you playing it? Can’t get online?

  • OnlineKiller-V1

I wish I was playing Driveclub online.

I’m watching: Modern Family, Black-ish, Simpsons
I’m listening to: Kendrick Lamar, Pharoah Monche, Katy Perry, Pharell
I’m not playing: Driveclub PS+ Edition

Driveclub debacle may cost you a sale. I was looking forward to testing the waters on +, and possibly buying it. Now, by the time the PS+ edition arrives, I will more than likely have moved on to GTA V, Evil Within, heck maybe even Peggle 2.

Driveclub is an absolute embarrassment to Playstation and Sony, especially when you compare it to Forza Horizon 2.

I’ve been completely gung ho on Sony this generation and made it my primary platform. I’ve ridiculed the Xbox One left and right and deservedly so. But I’m sorry Sony, they’ve completely made fools of you in the racing area. Especially considering that Polyphony Digital hasn’t been able to improve their gameplay or graphics much, or keep up with the competition.

At this point both The Crew and Project Cars are almost guaranteed to be better than Driveclub. It’s a shame. Perhaps Evolution should have stuck to what they do best and cranked out another Motorstorm.

  • honkayjeezus

Why do you even put this out without expecting absolute ridicule?

Playing – We at Sony are playing anything but Driveclub!

    Watching – POWERS!!

  • If DriveClub came out without a hitch, this post would’ve been flaunting all about it to hell it back, being PlayStation’s big exclusive game and all. And now instead, its twisting and turning in all kinds of ways to avoid talking about the game at all. I’m a big PlayStation gamer and a huge supporter, just thought that was a funny and somewhat disagreeable observation I had. Probably would’ve been better to not have this post at all.

  • The best way to treat the whole scenario is to either give the Plus edition a much bigger boost in content, like say half the game than $20 for the rest, or give us free games or ridiculous sales that might as well be free games. The last time I felt this disappointed was during the big outage, when I couldn’t play MK9 online for a month and a half and others couldn’t play SOCOM. Sony more than made up for it than, so I hope/have faith they will do something similar to that again, especially if this takes a long time to fix.

  • Yeah if I were the powers that be at Sony I suppose I wouldn’t want anyone mentioning DriveClub anywhere either. The game will always be remembered as the PS4’s first colossal flop! I’m sure we’ll see stacks of them on the 9.99 blowout rack soon enough.

  • jimmyfoxhound

How crazy has this Driveclub launch been?? It almost feels like Sony is now going to pretend the game doesn’t exist! lol my goodness. It went from ‘Forza killer’ in their promo video to DOA in one week. I have the game and what is there is decent but the screw up with the servers may have sunk the game & really damaged Evolutions rep. Crazy.

  • ossiecastro5

The Kingdom Hearts 2.5 trailer was my most memorable post here on the Blog this week. It is coming closer to its release on December 2nd.

  • israelpacheco89

Vib-Ribbon is definitely on my radar. Gotta check that out. Hopefully everything get’s sorted for Driveclub soon.

  • I’m playing: Metal Gear Solid, Muramasa Rebirth
    I’m watching: Doctor Who
    I’m listening to: Bioshock OST

  • And PSP. Vib-Ribbon is also available on PSP. I know you guys would have liked to drop that thing like a hot potato, but you’re still publishing games for it. I would bet you’ve sold more copies on PSP than you have on Vita.

Seriously, I’ve got somewhere between 80-90 PSN games for it, and 19 of those are still unavailable (we know they’re not unplayable, thanks to your SNAFU earlier this year where they *were* available) on Vita. Fix that and I’d upgrade, no question about it. It’s a no-brainer, really, except for the restrictions on game availability. As it is, buying a Vita means I have to abandon a good chunk the library I already have.

  • ClawOfTheFallen

I am playing: Soul Sacrifice Delta and Strider 2
I am watching: Sons of Anarchy
I am listening to: Several Kamen Rider soundtracks.

  • “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but PSone classic Vib-Ribbon is out now on PS3 and PS Vita” – no one cares.
    Give us real PS1 classics.

  • VeritableHero

Playing NHL 14 on PS3 because 15 was a PS4 disappointment. Wish I was playing Driveclub but that launch has been a disappointing and newsworthy mess (the update is the number 1 blog post for the week). Happy that I didn’t pre-order that game but sad to see so much disappointment surrounding my PS4 as of late.

    Watching: Gotham

  • Brilliant, take the servers down for maintenance on a holiday day in Canada … Tuesday might have made more sense when everyone is back to school/work. Brilliance again.
