PlayStation TV Arrives Today in North America

PlayStation TV makes its debut today in North America with hundreds of games available to play. Whether you’re using PS TV to play PS4 games in another room of your house through Remote Play, or playing PS Vita hits like Killzone: Mercenary on the big screen, the system has something for everyone. Starting at $99.99 (MSRP) for the standalone system, it’s one of the best deals in gaming. It’s easy to set up, yet offers amazingly deep gameplay. It sits in a special place in the PlayStation platform ecosystem – as it can play titles from PS Vita, PSone , PSP, PS3 (through PS Now), and PS4 (through Remote Play).

Of course PS TV plays entertainment content, including popular movies and TV shows that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. PS TV will also launch with video streaming apps Crackle, Crunchyroll and Qello, and stay tuned for additional entertainment content we’ll be adding soon to the PS TV lineup.

In addition, PlayStation Now is available on PS TV in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada* and will launch with games for the whole family like Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Sly Cooper: HD Collection, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

You can also pick up the PS TV bundle we’re offering this holiday, which includes a PS TV unit, DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, and a voucher for The Lego Movie Videogame – all for $139.99 (MSRP).

I hope you’ll get as much enjoyment out of this small, simply amazing platform as I have. Let us know below which PS TV games you’re looking forward to!

*Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details.

  • @jay_jon does Netflix on ps4 stream to vita? I know the vita shows the display of the ps4. I don’t have Netflix I just would assume it would work if it streams games.

  • same error message on vita. no go.

  • Just downloading killzone for it.Wow is it ever small lol Can’t wait to try out some games i missed out on Vita!

  • @Don a good connection? its wired bro.how much ‘gooder’ could it be?gigabit network.plays fine on vita over wifi…… hmm

  • Will the PS TV be supporting any kind of headset in the future?

  • Does the PSTV play audio or video files from USB?

  • Vita Owner here, loving thew PS TV!!! LOVE IT

  • @106 looks like a no media over USB.doesnt see the thumb drive(FAT32,I think.) wants to run all media through the “content manager”app installed on a pc or OS X or PS+ online storage.

  • Can’t wait to play Tales of Hearts R on it!

  • I was so excited for this. The lack of good video streaming apps means im returning it, though. How do you not have netflix?!!

  • What happened to the PSP and PS1 games that got removed from the PSTV list like Twisted Metal: Head On, Wipeout Pure, Um Jammer Lammy, Metal Gear Solid, etc.? Will those come to the PSTV or Vita in the future?

  • Went out today to a couple gamestops, walmart and bestbuy and none of them seem to have it. Gamestop claims they arent getting it till next week. Kinda sad but im not sure what is up with some of the stores near me, oh well i guess ill just order it online!

  • If you order now from Amazon.com, you can receive it Thursday.

  • Does this mean any more PS1/PSP games will be made Vita AND PS TV compatible, or are we still stuck with a lot of unplayable downloadable classics?

  • Sony, why did you lie about the PSP compatibility? I was looking forward to playing Twisted Metal: Head On on my Vita and you removed it. I can’t even download the ones that are still on that list. Not good business practices.

@Nevi901 Same. I was looking forward to buying Twisted Metal: Head On once it’s compatible. Looks like I won’t.

  • Dev related question. Can you develop games with Unity for PSM or the PSM SDK 2.0 with only a PlayStation TV? I’ve read the developing forums for PSM and they say you have to use a normal PS Vita unit and then swap the memory card with the developed game to the PS TV but there is no info on how to do it directly to PS TV without swapping memory cards. I really need an answer to this because there is no information about it and I don’t plan on buy a PS Vita.

  • Is anyone having GOOD luck with Remote Play?

On my Vita, remote play works great. But on my PS TV; whether wired or wireless; Remote Play is unplayable. Laggy, slow, jittery. It just does not work. This is a dealbreaker. This is a box it up and send it back dealbreaker. It can’t be the router or switch; because the Vita works FINE, nice and smooth. So what’s the deal!?

  • @117 same. glad its not just me.

  • I’d like to put in another compatibility request for Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds. This was a recent release, and the Japanese version has been compatible with PS TV since it launched, so it shouldn’t even need a patch. I’d love to play this game on my TV. If you could work with 5pb. Games on this, that would be great!

  • This needs Golden Abyss far more than the PS3 or PS4 ever will. Mercenary made the jump, and it would be a wise decision to get a team working on a port in a similar fashion. An “exclusive” Uncharted could very well get people to go to the TV that weren’t interested in the smaller screen, and then introduce them to other great titles.

  • The ball was dropped amazingly hard with the lack of Netflix support. Sometimes you are are like procrastinating school children. A report is due, they a** off the entire time, then when it’s time to turn in the report they are standing in front of the teacher with a stupid look and a butt load of terrible excuses. You guess are losing my confidences. I know one man’s opinion doesn’t matter in the face of a giant, but the way you mishandle anything that isn’t a PS4 is amazing.

  • If this thing is basically a vita that plays on your TV instead of on its own screen, there should not exist any vita games that aren’t compatible with it. This thing just flat out sucks

  • Do you know if the Sly Cooper Collection and Jak & Daxter Collection will be compatible with the system in the near future? I noticed that the God of War Collection and Ratchet & Clank Collection were compatible, so I thought I would just ask.

  • DOES PSTV PLAY’S UNIT13?

  • @124 Looks like a no for Unit 13.”this application cannot be used with this system” fails to update.error code c2-13700-1

  • Can you make Wipeout 2048 compatible with Playstation TV?

  • Really looking forward to getting PS TV gonna be ordering from Amazon this week!

  • @125 DAMN i was really looking foward to play it. thanx

  • Please add PS2 classics playable on Vita/PS TV!!

  • Will a WWE Network app be coming to Playstation TV?

  • Destiny performance was laggy and pretty much unplayable. This is with both PS4 and PTV on a wired network. Sorry Sony you touted how good Destiny played but this is getting taken back to best buy.

Remote play still has a long way to go before it can reliably stream all PlayStation 4 games.

  • Got my PS TV today and I’m loving it. I’m still wondering about some of the PSP titles that were listed as being compatible but are not available yet (Fat Princes, ModNation Racers, etc) but so far the system is fantastic. I’m also looking forward to more media apps, especially Netflix and YouTube, which I’m hoping will be added soon.

More than that, I want to give a shout out to Mr. Don Mesa, who continues to respond to comments even beyond the first 50. That is much appreciated by us, the customers and fans of these products.

  • I understand there’s plenty to do with compatibility, and I don’t want to add to the workload, but do I have to ask for compatibility or should I assume it will probably be taken care of? I have not tried all of my games and I’m sure a few will work but I’ll make the list of the titles I would like to see compatible if they already aren’t.

    -Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth1
    -Muramasa Rebirth
    -Ys Memories of celceta
    -Disgaea 4
    -Disgaea 3
    -Conception 2
    -Sword art online hollow fragment

Again I apologize if any of these have already been taken care, I just bought my pstv, and was a little brought to tears when SAO didn’t work, Though I am happy to know you guys are taking a pro-active approach at making older games compatible, keep listening to the little man, it’ll take you far.

  • i know this has been mentioned but i just wanted to throw my two cents in as a proponent of using multiple psn accounts on the playstation tv. my girlfriend and i each have our own vita (and we like it that way) but would both love to be able to play our games on the tv. I just got the playstation tv today for my birthday (great release day btw, made my choice of gifts really easy haha), and we love it so far, but this would be a much loved feature.

  • Anyone else stuck at the “Checking the connection environment…” screen when using remote play? I can connect to my ps4 but it gets stuck at this step.

  • Just bought PSTV today and tried out PS One Classics. Is there a way to make PS One Classics full screen like you can on the Vita? When I hold the home button on my PS4 controller there is no options to change it. 4:3 looks awful on an HD TV.

  • I found that there was no option to transfer files from my PSVita directly to my PSTV. I had to copy the files from my PSVita to my PC/PS3, then transfer to the PSTV. Will there be a feature to transfer files directly from PSVita to PSTV via USB in the future?

  • is ys memories of celceta compatable with playstation tv

  • I just bought the Playstation Tv today before I went to work I haven’t set it up yet… but I will on the weekend and can’t waite to try it out! :)

  • So, I’m SUPREMELY ****ED OFF at this system. I bought SAO: Hollow Fragment the day it came out and looked for a PS Vita. I couldn’t find one. Someone told me about the PS TV, so I looked into it, and found that SAO: Hollow Fragment plays on it, so I pre-ordered the system. Now, today, I get the system, spend several hours setting everything up and downloading SAO: Hollow Fragment to be told “This application cannot be used with this system.” WTF? The ONLY reason I bought this thing was for that game. Why the **** does it work in Japan and not in America?

  • I was really excited about playing Capcom Reloaded and Remixed, as these were previous games that I had purchased for my PSPGO, and looked online and it states that these were compatible with my PS Tv. Got home and they are not available to download on the PS store. What gives? Then my physical copy of Ninja Gaiden Sigma will not work either, but it is for sale in the Playstation store for 40 bucks…not cool Sony

  • “We have no current support plans for Netflix on PS TV.” – Netflix

  • I can play akiba trip’s undressed and undead or senran kagura shinboi versus on new Playstation TV?

  • No Netflix and one their reps told gizmodo they currently have no plans to develop for pstv. I guess I shouldn’t even bother hoping for Netflix profile support on my vita.

  • Hello Don,

I may sound like a rookie about this, but I really am. Is the Playstation TV like a second ps4? How does that work. Do I still get to play the games I own? Is the playstation TV like a second console? Do I just register my account with it and all my games I’ve owned before save? Do I have to be within range of my PS4 do save and play on the Playstation TV? Maybe you could help shed some light on the subject because the Playstation TV seems like a great investment.

  • Any chance of getting some WWE Smackdown Vs Raw games for this? They are available for PSP/Vita.

  • Will Freedom Wars work on the PSTV?

  • @143

The PlayStation TV is a device that plays digital PSone Classics, PSP Classics, and compatible Vita titles. It has access to PlayStation Now streaming service for PS3 titles.
PS4 titles are only playable through Remote Play. Through either Direct Connection or through the internet, you can stream and control your PlayStation 4 to a different room.

If you have the PS4 connected in your living room, and your PS TV in the bedroom. You could stream the PS4 to the PS TV in your bedroom, It allows you to play Destiny or NBA 2K in your bedroom without having to unplug the PS4 and haul it around.

  • Get PLEX please on this and the PS4 please. That and Netflix and i will buy one.

  • Primarily bought PS TV for remote play put Destiny in and I get lag I’d say at least a quarter second is there any plan to make this better? If not it can go back and highly doubt it’s my Internet plugged in ethernet to PS TV have a docsis 3 modem airport extreme router and 60mbps download
