PlayStation TV Arrives Today in North America

PlayStation TV makes its debut today in North America with hundreds of games available to play. Whether you’re using PS TV to play PS4 games in another room of your house through Remote Play, or playing PS Vita hits like Killzone: Mercenary on the big screen, the system has something for everyone. Starting at $99.99 (MSRP) for the standalone system, it’s one of the best deals in gaming. It’s easy to set up, yet offers amazingly deep gameplay. It sits in a special place in the PlayStation platform ecosystem – as it can play titles from PS Vita, PSone , PSP, PS3 (through PS Now), and PS4 (through Remote Play).

Of course PS TV plays entertainment content, including popular movies and TV shows that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. PS TV will also launch with video streaming apps Crackle, Crunchyroll and Qello, and stay tuned for additional entertainment content we’ll be adding soon to the PS TV lineup.

In addition, PlayStation Now is available on PS TV in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada* and will launch with games for the whole family like Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, Sly Cooper: HD Collection, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

You can also pick up the PS TV bundle we’re offering this holiday, which includes a PS TV unit, DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, and a voucher for The Lego Movie Videogame – all for $139.99 (MSRP).

I hope you’ll get as much enjoyment out of this small, simply amazing platform as I have. Let us know below which PS TV games you’re looking forward to!

*Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details.

  • any reason that Final Fantasy 3 (PSP) NA version, has not been approved on the PSTV?

Also what happened to all the classic Star Wars games like Dark Forces?

  • I am another customer disappointed and also somewhat confused by the lack of Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. Please patch these ASAP.

Please add support for additional accounts. Right now I have content split between two accounts and I would have to format the device every time I wanted to access the other account’s content. This is a major hassle.

What happened to Metal Gear Solid 1 compatibility? I have a license for it, but I can’t download it. Also, lack of FF3.

Playing the FFX remaster is pretty sweet, and I’m looking forward to the Binding of Isaac Rebirth. This console has potential. Sony just has to tweak a few things, and this will be a killer unit.

  • Please add Netflix support to PSTV asap.

I have contacted Netflix customer supportand they said they usually have a great relationship with Sony. I couldn’t get an eta on when a Netflix app would be added to PSTV however other than to ‘watch for updates.’

I’m going to triangulate my effort by posting this here.

Sony, please add Netflix to this device and you will have many happy campers.

  • @203

Hulu is currently working with Sony on the issue, but a Netflix representative told us point-blank: “We have no current support plans for Netflix on PS TV.”

so pretty much it falls on netflix if they decide to change their minds or not

  • So, now that it has released in the US, will the region lock be removed from the Import VITA TV so early adopters can access their US accounts and games on it? Thanks

  • Hi…I got new PlayStation TV yesterday cause It look good for HDTV but senran kagura Shinovi Versus is work on my new PlayStation TV?Thanks!

  • No Netflix support?? Come on Sony! Please add it, and I will get one of these so quickly! I REALLY want to replace our chromecast with this. :)

  • hi, question sony. I bought the vita deluxe version. I saw the list of games online that it supports, one being “the legend of heroes” series thats on psp. But while in the ps store, i dont see them anywhere. Are you still updating the store list or whats up?!?!?!

    thanks

  • Playstation TV is so freaking good. That’s all I wanted to say lol.

  • I don’t know if people are still looking at this, but I want to add that Ys: Memories of Celceta’s absence is a sin. Especially since the game was patched in JP. I’m excited that Tales of Hearts R is coming, but if I can get Ys too, 100% good investment on my part. So please, try to get Ys to happen!

  • Update, i just found out final fantasy 3 while i can downlaod it on my pstv, it will not play, says not compatible, can we get a fix for this. Also, the couple golf games i have on it, i have the controller plugged in but there is a slight lag from when i hit the X button to when it reconizes it. kinda hard to make those perfect shots with that, lol

  • This is a nice device. It will be better when netflix and hulu work. Also having multiple user accounts would help this aswell. My roommate cant switch to his account on the pstv. Will this be added later?

  • sorry if this has already been asked. i boight the pstv game virtue’s last reward and i got to p puzzle in the game that makes me tilt the screen around to slide blocks but my ps4 controller doesnt seem to do this. is their a control i am unaware of for six axis movement or maybe to bypass this puzzle so i can keep playing?

  • @204

This may or may not be true. There are conflicting reports whether Netflix is coming to PSTV.

Gizmodo did report the quote you mentioned…. “Hulu is currently working with Sony on the issue, but a Netflix representative told us point-blank: “We have no current support plans for Netflix on PS TV.”

However, if you go to Netflix website and chat with their “Live Customer Service” reps they will say the opposite.

They will say it is up to Sony when this app will be ready for PS TV.

As far as I can tell, the company that is mum on the matter is Sony. And Netflix reps are saying both no and yes.

    What’s the deal?

Sony, is Netflix coming to Playstation TV (PSTV)? (an actual response from Sony would be great)

  • MGS Portable Ops and PO+ still won’t play PS TV? let alone Vita? why?

  • can you play your owned library of games on the PSN with the PS TV?

  • Here’s are two PSP titles that have never been playable on the Vita – and now are also NOT playable on the PS TV: Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops & MGS PO+ .. umm ….. why?

  • Can we please make UNIT 13 compatible for the PlayStation TV

  • No answer in almost three years (since Vita released) – they really don’t seem to care.

  • Overall very disappointing. PS4 remote play is very laggy on a wired setup. Most of my Vita games are NOT compatible, and PS Now is so ridiculously overpriced that some titles cost as much as 2 retail versions and you dont even own them!!! The only way this box would even be worth half of what I paid is if sony gets a subscription service up and running for PS Now. I will gladly pay a monthly fee to access ps3 games on my PSTV.

  • Any idea when an update to the compatibility list will be done? What are the steps needed to be done in order for a game to be added to the compatibility list/become compatible with the PSTV? About how long does this process usually take? Are there any specific titles that are being worked on currently to be added to the compatibility list?

    Thanks,

    • The compatibility list will be an ongoing process. The steps are varied — some titles are easier to make compatible than others. We are working with our publishing partners to get as many titles compatible for PSTV. I’ll keep chasing every one until I’ve exhausted all avenues of making it work on PSTV.

  • Add me to the bandwagon of people who are waiting for Dracula X Chronicles to be playable in the US. I’m fairly upset about it because I paid 15 dollars for the game through the store on the PS TV, then spent time downloading it, only to have it refuse to start. If it’s going to be made compatible, then do it. If not, then you shouldn’t be able to purchase it using the PS TV. As of right now, I’ve been ripped off for 15 dollars.

  • Can’t believe Netflix doesn’t work… Would not have bought it, had I not foolishly assumed Netflix would work immediately, being as it’s on damn near every streaming device under the sun.

  • Now I want to say that I’ve owned the PSTV since launch and I love it. Every little bit of it. Will probably beat Malicious and The Swapper on it in the next few days.

In the compatibility list in the PSP section Star Wars Battlefront 2 is listed, however if you go to the PSTV PSN STORE it’s nowhere to be found. I have found that if you go the the options icon on the PSN STORE screen (bottom right) and go to DOWNLOAD LIST, I can retrieve said game as well as some other Vita and PSP titles that do not appear on the store front. These games are obviously not optimized and your experiences with them will most likely vary but, if you have the space on your card and really want a certain game it may be worth exploring. I also had to locate my digitally redeemed copy of FFX-2 through this method as it would not let me do so through the storefront.

  • Don I do have a request of my own. Can you check on compatibility on the collection titles such as, Sly Cooper, Jack and Daxter, Ratchet, and the sort, also Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Soul Sacrifice games. I’m a huge fan of Sony first party studios and I am kind of bummed out that their presence is sort of lacking. Even the Vita ports of games like Flow and Flower are absent.

Thanks Don for being so responsive with everyone!

  • Bug Funimation to add Funimation app to both PS3/4 and PSTV too…

  • @ Don thx for looking into things.

I have a few questions, why do some games require the PS3 to transfer?
Will there be any full screen options for PS one games on PStv?
Any chance we can get texture smoothing option on the PStv for old PS one and PSP games?

Add the following to not working, please.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (never worked on Vita)
Twisted Metal: Head On (never worked on Vita)
    Silent Hill: Origins
    Destiny of Spirits
    Final Fantasy 3
    Mortal Kombat: Unchained
    Midway Arcade Collection

  • I’m happy to see the responses are still happening on this post even if it wasn’t for my own post. Thanks for at least letting your current fans know what the situation is. I hope you get back to some of the gaming media still, since I want people other than blog
readers to know that this thing isn’t just going to be as is without a chance for patched in fixes for stability, compatibility, etc.

Anyway, thanks for being awesome as usual. I’m looking forward to updates on Vegas in December. I already have my plane tickets for the 5th through the 7th!

  • Hey there, I’ve been trying to run zero escape virtues last reward, it plays fine but the touch screen aspects of it aren’t working properly, I seen it was listed on the compatible list of games, does it require a ps4 controller with a touchpad? I’ve been using a ps3 controller.

  • Kudos to Don Mesa for doing an outstanding job answering some of our questions.
Here’s to hoping you’ll be able to answer mine Don.
Can sony prirotize supporting their first party games. I’m a huge fan of the Uncharted series and for this game to be not compatible with the Vita TV is just a huge disappointment! I’m still an early adopter of the VITA TV and I truly believe that it is a great addition to the Playstation eco system and holds tremendous potential. Releasing it for the North American market was a great move.

Also, Can we hope that ALL FUTURE VITA releases will also support VITA TV. Having said that i would like to say the same for PS NOW support. Is there any hope that major titles like THE LAST OF US, UNCHARTED series and Majority of PS3 games will be added to PS NOW?

Thank you for taking the time to view and answering our questions. Keep up the good work!

  • that’s so cool

  • I would like to know if it was possible to get the PS TV to stream PS4 games in full native resolution 1080p with an update.
I know that the PS TV can stream Netflix in 1080p, and since it’s the PS4 that is doing all the work, maybe it could be displayed in 1080p if possible. A lot of people would appreciate.

  • any news on the pstv supporting multiple psn accounts. i have an account that has quite a few classics that are compatible with the pstv but i dont want to 1: rebuy them off psn with my main account. or 2: have to reformat the pstv and re-set it up to use my older account when i also use my main account for the ps tv. it becomes a hassle when i want to play one of my favorite games then having to switch everything back again when done

  • Hi, I just picked up Puella Magic Madoka Magica and Bullet Girls while I was in Japan. Will these work on the US Vita TV (Playstation TV)?

  • are vita games like drake uncharted and playstation all stars going to be compatable with pstv soon or at anytime?

  • Looking at the list of compatible games, I see a bunch I would love to download for the PS TV, such as Me and My Katamari, the PSP version. However there is no listing for this game in the PS Store. Only if you search the PS Store on your PC. Is there a way to buy something on your PC and then transfer it to your PS TV? Otherwise, Sony needs to get with the act and make the titles available that they list as compatible. Otherwise, not worth it.

  • Atelier Ronona Plus, please? I plan on buying all 3 Atelier Plus games for the ps tv, unfortunately only the first game is not compatible, which is abit odd. So I can not pick up the later 2 till the first is compatible, and will it ever be?
Also Ys would be great as well. More jrpgs on ps tv.

  • I am looking into buying a Vita TV only one question I can not find an answer to that will make my mind upon purchasing it now. Will the Japanese game Corpse Party Blood Drive (which i own) work on the american Vita TV? It does work on my regular american Vita system and love the series and game.

  • I got my PlayStation TV yesterday, like it a lot. Can’t get Final Fantasy X HD to work on it. It says its not supported, but its on the compatibility list. Does it need an update? Not sure how to do this.

  • ok i was super happy to hear about the playstation tv so i went out and bought one day one…..
