Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Rocks PS4, PS3 This December

Hello friend and lovers of all things Aksys! It is your loyal and humble servant, Frank “Bo” deWindt II, Director of Production here at Aksys Games.

Today I bring to you joyous and momentous news in regards to our upcoming fighting game on PS4 and PS3, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. But first, let me explain a little bit about the game for those that have no prior knowledge of the Guilty Gear series!

The series has been around since time immemorial (and by that, I mean for 16 years!). It’s been redesigned from the world of 2D, to incorporate both 2D and 3D elements, making it a veritable feast for the eyes kind of experience, thanks to some technical Arc System Works magic and the Unreal 3 engine. Thanks to that, 3D models have been fashioned to create the illusion of 2D sprites without anyone being the wiser.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- has also enhanced its fighting mechanics and has significantly expanded upon one of the series’ long standing mechanics, the Roman Cancel! Thanks to that, players will be able to have a myriad of vast fighting styles at their command.

The character roster also has a lot of familiar faces, from the widely known Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, two beacons of the Guilty Gear franchise, all the way to someone as cute and adorable as the Jellyfish pirate, May!

Some of the newer characters include the unique and cunning, Bedman, who, like his namesake, is attached to and fights using nothing else but… A BED! And of course the monotone and lovely Ramlethal Valentine, whose swords, if used correctly, can really dish out some punishment on your opponent.

Recently two more characters have been announced, Sin Kiske, who employs the power of lightning as well as a flag to battle his foes, and the lovely and pure Elphelt! But beware of her arsenal of guns! She’ll give a whole new meaning to the term, “Shotgun Wedding”. She will be a DLC character, just for the curious among you.

This brings the current roster to a grand total of 16! Plenty of options to choose from to find the character the best suits you!

Now that I’ve given a little bit of exposition on the game, I probably should keep the rest of my informational cards up my sleeve, but before I go, I need to tell everyone the big news!

A release date for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- in the US has finally been decided! It will be…

Tuesday, December 16, 2014! That’s like, so soon! (and only ~2 weeks after the Japanese release!)

So now that everyone is informed, make sure to go out and pre-order it as soon as you can! Speaking of pre-orders, there will be both limited and standard editions of the game on both PS4 and PS3!

The limited edition will contain a box to hold all the goodies, fashioned in the likeness of the “Backyard”, the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Vocal Collection (just like the Japanese version!), the Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Character Book which will provide information on characters, terms, and concepts from the beginning of the series to the present, and finally, the Sol Badguy “FREE” belt buckle keychain!

That LE sounds “Fireseal” hot! I would totally pre-order it ASAP if I didn’t work here already!

So with all that info swirling in your heads, just remember, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- releases December 16, 2014! So pre-order away!

And don’t forget the four magic words… Get ready to ROCK! This is Bo, signing off!

Any chance the NA store will get the same demo the JPN market has?

  • KazeEternal

So pretty. When can we expect BlazBlue on PS4?

  • AliciaDarky

I’m a fan of yours. Keep bringing us your fantastic games because NO OTHER fighting games have this top-notch quality.
    Thank you so much.

  • jonnyzombieboy

This looks like one of the most beautiful titles ever created. True visual magic. I suck so bad at Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, but I buy every one that comes out because they’re fantastic. Guaranteed Day One sale right here.

  • This looks and sounds awesome. I hope we get a demo to check out the gameplay before hand.

    Can’t wait to play.

  • Why PS3 but not Vita?????? Why????????????????? This is a AAAAA+ game we need it!!! WHY LIFE IS SO DDAAAMMMN UNFAAAAAIR????? T_T

  • insano_jaco

I’ve been playing the jap demo, it’s awesome!
    Day 1 for me mate!

  • DuoMaxwell007

Cant wait… has this preorderd since before Summer of this year. Though Guilt Gear 1 on PS1 was the only GG game I played AND liked the rest were far too slow paced for my taste especially compared to how lightning fast part 1 was, Im sure Xrd Sign isnt bringing the speed of the original back (especially since its not full 2d/sprites), but If I can put up with Street Fighter IV and its lack of non Marvel Vs Capcom breakneck speed then I can put up with this. After 16 years its time for me and Chipp to get back into the ring and kick some ***!!!

  • Awesome game! I got to play it at PAX Prime. Will the characters/story be english voice? Will there be a demo?

    • Frank "Bo" DeWindt II
      Frank "Bo" DeWindt II

There will be the option of English or Japanese voices to play with.

  • Alucard-XII

First of all, I’m primarily a KOF fan, but I gotta say, this game’s art style blew me away, and then I couldn’t believe it when I saw the gameplay and how it remained almost intact to the GGX series. Day one purchase on PS4 if I get the chance.

Secondly, please please please please please please please please please please pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaase …… bring over the handheld and PS3 Kunio Kun games to the US. PLEASE?

  • ShadowYomi89

  • Ohh wow i was expecting a jan or feb release now i have to come out with the money faster! Hahaha

  • headronefish

Game isn’t even out and there’s already a DLC character. I guess I’m officially done with fighting games. I miss the times when my $60 bought a full game.

  • Does the PS4 version of this game support Remote Play with Vita/PSTV? (From what I gather, most, but not quite all, PS4 games are set up for Remote Play, but I was wondering if Aksys have had a chance to test that feature for themselves.)

Also, on a side note, has the ship pretty much sailed on Fate/Extra CCC making it over to the West (even as a PSN-only title), or would imageepoch have to do a Vita edition for it to be worth (re)considering?

  • Blazing-Blur

Finally! I’ve been waiting for the US announcement of this game for awhile now. Wish it was a bit sooner but that’s alright, still pretty pumped!

  • FINALLY! F*KIN FINALLY we have a release date! And It’s coming very soon, that’s awesome to hear ! What I want to know though is if the game will have Brazil portuguese subs ? And if it will work with remote play ?

  • Sweet butt rock soundtrack!

  • WaterDragon77

    December 16th?!?

Merry freaking Christmas for me, man! I’m getting this bad boy… hell, I’m getting this game via preorder.

  • I missed the japanese voices in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, so it’s nice to see we’re getting jp voices for GG Xrd.

And please put the demo in the NA store. I can’t wait to see those sweet graphics with my own eyes.

  • Back to back Japan and US are getting on the midnight train!

  • Nitecrawler

Hey Bo! I just want to let you know this made my day and I am as giddy as a schoolgirl sitting here at my desk!!!

  • mafiakiller9

Will guilty gear support te 1 fightstick on ps 4?

  • heyricochet

Will the PS4 version support PS3 arcade sticks?

  • TheFunkyPhantom

Now I’ll want to get a good PS4 fight stick. Those new Horis look nice.

  • Zombies-Preacher

  • Huge fan of the series here. Can you confirm that cross play between PS4 and PS3 will be supported in NA as well?

    p.s.: please bring Dizzy back!

    • Frank "Bo" DeWindt II
      Frank "Bo" DeWindt II

There will be crossplay between PS3 and PS4 versions, yes :)

  • Way to go Bo! The perfect holiday gift for the fighters.

  • How about us europeans? :\

    • Frank "Bo" DeWindt II
      Frank "Bo" DeWindt II

Unfortunately we’re only responsible for the North American market.

  • Time to get really good in my first PS4 fighting game.

  • You tell us to pre-order, yet in Canada there’s only a single retailer that carries your game. Why did you suddenly stop putting up your games for pre-order through Amazon, Futureshop, Best Buy, and EB Games? In the case of Arcana Heart 3 Love Max, it did show up for purchase but less than a week before release in other stores. I wanna support you, but I also want the gamma of choices that the US has as well.

    • Frank "Bo" DeWindt II
      Frank "Bo" DeWindt II

We’re currently still getting things with our Canadian retailers sorted out, so we’ll hopefully have updates on that in the near future :)

  • “HEAVEN OR HELL – DUEL 1 – LET´S ROCK”

Can´t wait to hear those words again before an epic battle. Time to go back to my roots with Chip Zanuff! *w*

  • Will there be support for PS3 arcade sticks on the PS4 version? since the PS4 still doesn’t have many options for arcade sticks… I wonder if you can adapt the drivers to be compatible?

  • Glad to hear an official release date. I have my copy pre-ordered and my madcatz te2 will be here before the game releases. I wish you didn’t put the demo just on JP psn though, I’m sure if you looked at IP addresses you would see that a large portion of those playing the demo are coming from America. Keep up the good work on the game. I hope the netcode is amazing.

  • Still behind on Aksys games, need to pick up Blazblue, at least was able to get Xblaze. Will try to get GG early next year. Keep up the good work Aksys.

  • OMG I’ve been following this game ever since it’s reveal last year. Now I can FINALLY have it for myself on PS4! I can’t wait! That Limited Edition WILL BE MINE!

  • It’s time to break out the fight stick.

  • Tehrannotaur

For the English track, will you be having it done in California or are you going to outsource it to either Vancouver (Ocean Studios) or Dallas (Okratron 5000)?

  • RadicalEnigma

Looks great…but what a bummer. Johnny, Bridget, and ABA were the characters I was really good at in the past few games. :(

  • Another week and still no updated news on the PS4 update or Live from PlayStation app for vita….great job guys

  • Is Dizzy in this one? She is one of the few characters I’m good with.

  • TheOathsworn

I never actually played Guilty Gear before, guess it’s better late than never.
Now to wait to see if my local retailer will be stocking it.

  • GodlessPagan

FINALLY I WILL HAVE A FIGHTING GAME ON MY PS4!

  • SeanStrange

Played a ton of Guilty Gear on the PS2 a few years ago. Can’t wait for the latest installment. Thanks for bringing this over.
