Killzone Celebrates 10 Years With New Content, Streams, Sales

Watch live video from PlayStation on www.twitch.tv

Update: The Killzone 10th Anniversary livestreams begin on November 6th and 7th at 9AM PST/6PM CET, and will run until 11AM PST/8 PM CET.

When the original Killzone came out for PS2 on November 2nd, 2004, we had no way of knowing its red-goggled antagonists would go on to invade four additional console platforms, five more Killzone games, nine other PlayStation titles, a toy line, a novelization and a manga. But here we are, ten years later, and the world of Killzone is bigger than ever.

We’re very proud of how far we’ve come, and to mark this joyous occasion we’re going to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Killzone with the people who made it all possible – you, our loyal fans. We have several content releases planned for Killzone Shadow Fall in the pipeline, as well as live playthroughs, interviews, tournaments and more! Here’s what you can look forward to in the coming month.

Killzone

Free Stuff

Expand your Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer experience with these free maps and items:

New ‘The Academy’ Multiplayer Map
Arguably Killzone 2’s most popular multiplayer map, Radec Academy (named after Autarch Visari’s right-hand man and fan-favorite antagonist, Colonel Radec) is coming to Killzone Shadow Fall. We briefly revisited a collapsed version of this map in the From The Ashes DLC for Killzone 3, but this time around the ravages of war have really left a mark on the Academy.

Two New Cooperative Maps
In addition to the competitive multiplayer version, The Academy will also be released as a free cooperative map for Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept, along with a second cooperative map known as The Weapons Facility. We’ll have more detailed descriptions and trailers for the new maps on killzone.com soon!

I have only been exposed to the Killzone series thanks to Playstation All Stars; thank you for adding Radec in the game! I am glad to see that Killzone has grew to become a successful franchise for Playstation. I hope to see more in the future. Good luck!

Hey Justin , could you please send in a word to let us sort our ps4 trophys allpabethically and maybe even delete some trophys.

  • Is there anywhere we can see what the skins look like?

Congrats on the 10 years. Been playing Killzone since the beginning and owned every game. I know GG is busy with an RPG of sorts, but here’s to hoping we get some more Killzone down the road.

  • Congrats on such a great franchise, especially the title on Vita–it’s so great!

Please consider bundling the Intercept Pack and the Co-op mode together for $10; right now, they’re $20, which makes them nearly as expensive as the game ($27.30 on Amazon).

Can’t wait to see what’s next for both the franchise, and for GG.

  • So where are the sales? What are they?

I want killzone Merc for VITA, can we get a sub $10 deal on that at some point?

Perhaps Killzone Merc is coming to Plus sooner then later? Care to share any tidbits?

Anyways need more details on the sales mentioned.

  • Vinland_Krauser

That’s a lot of additional content, but what about the main game?
It would be nice to have an anniversary discount on Shadow Fall (could last for just 1 day or a weekend, like a Flash Sale)
Also, how about making a special super hard SP challenge map reenacting Radec’s boss fight?
    Cheers!

  • Congratulations. Killzone’s 10th birthday may be an achievement but why would you bother to post this on the VITA page and talk about your current “expension packs” plan for the ps4? In case you don’t know or remember, Mr. Roding, there’s a Killzone variant on the Vita and yet you don’t even mention the word VITA in your article.
You know what don’t even bother answering me. I won’t take anything from someone who supports the ps4 and the ps4 alone.
    Good day, sir.

  • NoGodsOnlyMan

Kz shadow fall for ps plus. :)

  • KazeEternal

Can we get stronger character narrative in the next KZ. I don’t feel like I get to know these characters well enough or why the politics are so important to them. Just loosely assembled predications of right and wrong to push things along.

I love Killzone and KZ2 still remains my favorite in the series. I can’t wait to see the next Vita and PS4 title in the series and anything else Guerilla may decide to start work on.

  • I see no sales…..where???

  • I was really excited to see sales!

  • Would love new single player content if you guys are thinking of adding anything there. Something like Infamous: First Light, but with Echo :)

Looking forward to your next big project (RPG?)

  • You guys having been adding a lot of good content, but not the two I been waiting for a year.
    1. local split screen multiplayer.
    2. PS Move/navigation support
I would love these things please.

  • Excited to check out the new content. Been loving Shadow Fall’s multiplayer since I first played it.

  • PanTheMan16

GG, you guys are amazing, really. And there will never be a Killzone title for a primary PlayStation console that I don’t pre-order. But please, work to add proper lobbies to Shadow Fall. It’s always been a hassle to play with friends and it’s the reason why I played so little of the multiplayer and why your overall multiplayer community has so few players. We need proper parties and lobbies. KZ3 was so much more solid in that respect, and because it was naturally easy to get together with my friends, we played it SO much more than we have played SF, even though you keep generously providing awesome content at no cost. Please, Guerilla, fix this. Don’t ‘wait for your next installment to get it right again. Like I said, I’ll pre-order anyway, but if you don’t get it right with this game before you release another, then I’m afraid there will be many KZ fans who won’t want to pick up your next game, at least not right away, because they will be rightfully skeptical about the online component. I was so hyped for Shadow Fall and I fully expected it to have an incredible online experience to trump any multiplayer game that would follow it in the next 1-2 years, but I was wrong. :(

  • Still waiting to play that 2005 trailer.

  • Darth-Krayt

I havn’t really had enough money to buy many PS4 games yet since getting the Destiny bundle on launch night. So I don’t have Shadow Fall yet, but I must say as a Killzone fan since 2004 and Killzone 1 is still my favorite in the series……this is pretty disappointing as a 10 year anniversary celebration.

Why release a KZ2 map to celebrate Kiilzone 1’s 10th? I would have prefered a paid DLC map pack of Killzone 1 maps, since to this day many of KZ 1’s maps remain my all time MP FPS favs. When you remade BeachHead for KZ2, I was in HEAVEN, and ever since I’ve been dreaming of other KZ1 maps getting the same treatment. Canyon Crossing was tops on my list. Wind driven snow and evergreens filling in the hills would be amazing. Park Terminal was a great map. Without KZ1’s 203’s, and open up another lane on the bottom, it’s a perfectly balanced map. Even just port Killzone 2’s BeachHead. All would have been better choices than a KZ2 map.

I don’t see what any of this content has to do with Killzone 1’s 10th. If you’re releasing skins, why wouldn’t they be classic Templar, Luger, Hakkah and Rico skins along with the classic Helghast skins? Ssometimes I feel like I’m the only person who loved Killzone 1.

  • Really disappointed in the 3rd expansion pack. I bought the season pass after the release of the insurgent expansion. The insurgent pack added a ton of new ways to play and kept the game fresh. It got me really excited for what was to come in the 2nd mp expansion pack. The fact that it’s only some skins, voice packs, and emblems is really disappointing. I had hoped to see more guns and abilities just like the first expansion. It looks like my time with shadow fall has come to an end as a result ;(. Can’t wait to see what the next installment in the franchise will have in store for us!

I think that Killzone: Mercenary is the best online multiplayer games available for the Vita. All of the maps are great (excluding Zenith, brr.), there’s a load of players online and the gunplay is excellent. I only have issues with the weapons unbalance. Anyway, I’ve spent over 300 hours in the Warzone and continue to do so. The support on that game has made me really satisfied. I wish there was more maps though, because eight maps don’t make the cut anymore for me. I’m really happy such a great game is on the Vita, and will continue to support the Killzone series when I can.

  • A little off topic but i just downloaded update 2.01 and for the first time had issues with the “rest mode” also why would i want to buy season passes for a show if it takes days to put it on the store (sons of anarchy episode 9) i’ve bought every episode on wed morning except for today

  • Subsided_Assasin

It says and SALES but i don’t see any SALES where are the SALES?

  • Hooligantuan

Is Killzone: Shadow Fall even on sale for this?

  • Shootist2600

The Helghast helmet I won from Guerrilla/Sony is my prize gaming artifact and a memorable moment, but my most memorable has to be playing the KZ preorder demo disc over and over and over. I couldn’t get enough of the classic sci-fi setting and solid gameplay. Even bought out my local EB’s cache of demo discs for family/friends when they sold them for 1 cent each. (i know, big spender!)

  • Shootist2600

I can’t believe I forgot to include being a beta tester on KZ2! That was a privilege and something I’ll always remember (well, almost always).

  • Can you put Killzone 3 single-player (and the the full game) and Killzone 2 on the PSN store? I am shifting my library to digital and sadly these are missing.

  • How about some new content for Killzone Merc. Vita Killzone is the best!!

  • I dont see a SALE on PSN? Where is 10th Anniversary Killzone Sale? C’mon Sony and GG do something good for people =\

  • Killzone on the Vita is top-notch.

  • Hold on….there is a manga of Killzone?….point me out to it right naaaw.lol

Damn already 10 years….seems like I played KZ1 on PS2 yesterday lol…..huge congratulations to the series. Its a fact that is one of the best FPS games out there, actually the 3rd…and every sane person knows that when it comes to technical aspects KZ makes every other FPS look like joke.

Here are my favorite moments(spoilers): KZ3 – Sev and Rico disguised as Helghasts.KZ2 – Battle with Radec.KZ3 – Battle in the trenches against Helghasts with the MAWRL in the background.KZ Mercenary – Betrayal of Benoit.KZ Mercenary – Fighting alongside Helghasts…that was just to EPIC.

Getting my PS4 next week and I’ll play the hell out of Shadow Fall….thank you Guerrilla for such amazing franchise.

LONG LIVE da Helghast…LONG LIVE Killzone.

  • GrafUlrich88

    Hello Jeroen,

    Thanks for the live stream.

I wanted to know if you guys would consider making “Dynamic Themes” and “Avatar Pictures” for the PS4? That would be really cool!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Rob aka Graf

  • Congrats on 10 years of Killzone GG!

Have been playing Killzone since the beginning and will continue to purchase your future titles. The visceral and hectic battles are just too intense…and I can’t get enough of the little ‘chirp’ sound when dropping ISA scum.

Got to play on Academy for a few matches last night, and I think this is my favorite version of the map ever. I hope more maps are still planned for the future. Also, the new voice packs are a great addition and are quite entertaining.

Wherever the Killzone franchise goes in the future, I will be there. Thanks for all the gaming you have provided with these Killzone titles over the years.

  • Forgot to say that is great to see that you guys added Radec Academy….for sure the best map to play DM on KZ2,played a lot some months ago and its a great map to play Warzone on KZ3.And for free…damn thats sweet.

  • Still wishing/hoping for AD HOC to come to Mercenary…

  • WARRIOR4CHRIST

I’m so proud that Killzone has been going so strong for over 10 years! I was introduced to Killzone 10 years ago, and It was my first experience with multiplaying (online) gaming, and I instantly fell in love. I also fell in love with Killzone’s story line, and Helghast characters. My main reason why I promote and “only” play all Killzone games is for the graphics. Guerrilla Games is by far, and has had, the best graphics on all consoles! From the PSP, PS3, PS Vita, and of course the PS4. I can’t play anything else but a Killzone game. I recently went out and bought the new Call of Duty game ( because of all the usual hype) and I have to say how disappointed again as a 1st person shooter fan that I am. The graphics are so poor, and the multiplayer gaming is all so the same! BORING!!!! With Killzone every muliplayer game play is so different, and difficult. KZ2,KZ3,KZM,KZSF are such amazing games! Also Guerrilla Games really cares about the fans, with giving away FREE maps and skins and other goodies why would you go any where else?? I hope and pray this isn’t the last of those red eyed soldiers!! KILLZONE4LIFE!!!!!

  • guitarded77

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! I love me some Killzone. Keep them coming! Damn the haters. Thank’s for the goodies too.

  • honkayjeezus

Great news for the ten people still playing Shadow Fall.

  • killzone mercenary has too many cheaters

  • #36 Go back to your trash; AW.

GG and Sony: Can you please tell us if there are any sales going on your Killzone Games this Week or Month? Also I like the idea of KZ2 perhaps having a remaster one day because that was the pinnacle for the series as of yet. I really liked KZ:SF as well, looked and played absolutely amazing.

  • @ 34 WARRIOR4CHRIST – All that you said is true…minus the best graphics part…Guerrilla and KZ are the 3rd best graphics….Santa Monica and ND are the best graphics.

  • @39 I don’t agree with you, although they are also the best in the Console business. It takes a big difference to see the difference between First Person and possibly Third Person textures and architecture. I still think KZ2 is the best looking PS3 game to date with my favorite dark styled Art Direction.

@ GG and Sony… wth happened to your dynamic death system in Killzone 2 SP? I know it wasn’t in the MP for KZ2 but why not implement it in your newest iterations, it was nothing like what the world had ever seen before.

  • DemoniOtaku

So.. you celebrate 10th anniversary of the franchise without sales and annoucnements for Vita’s Mercenary?

  • dazzlinggirl

Please create a new map for Killzone Mercenary on the Vita. I appreciate the amount of support it gets though, way more than any others.
