A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

In case you missed it, click here to read about all the great games included in the January 2015 PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup.

Thanks again to all our loyal PlayStation fans and welcome to our newest console owners. Wishing you all a very happy holiday.

  • Thank you Playstation/Sony. It is good to know that everyone here matters, as it is an effort from everyone to make each other successful and happy. May 2015 bring prosperity and safety, to everyone.

  • Felt bad for the people who got a new console and couldn’t play it but this is a nice gesture. Love to see a New Year’s Day .99 sale. Some PS1, PS2, and PSP games, heck maybe even put Disgaea 2 on there. :/

  • This is great. Per usual there are people who will not be pleased. Thank you for the hard work during this time.

  • Wow, what a way to start off the new year, thanks Playstation! I wasn’t really expecting any sort of compensation for what happened, but I think this more than makes up for it.

It’s a shame that even with what you’re offering some people are still not satisfied, but by this point, I’m not really surprised….

  • Thank you for thinking of us and our interests, and happy new year to all of you!

  • Right on PSN

  • Not sure anyone would read it here, but I want to say thank you to everyone who took their Holiday to work on the problem caused by some people who don’t care about anything other than ruining things for everyone. I appreciate the work you put into fixing the problems. And I was unable to login the entire time unlike some who could still manage to get online. It was a bummer, but it’s not anyone at Sony’s fault.

  • For a PS+ member who doesn’t plan on ever letting my subscription lapse, the 5 days does not do much for me BUT…..If the 10% off can be stacked on a Plus discount price and has NO expiration on it, then that is more than enough to put a smile on my face! Thanks Sony!

P.S. I would of been more excited for a New Years Day flash sale. Why didn’t that happen?

  • Hooray! Happy 2015

  • Thanks. I wish PSN will improve this year.

  • You can keep that useless 10 percent discount, this is disgrace, 12 year olds DDoSing a huge corporation.

  • Thank you to the PlayStation team. I appreciate this offer very much. Happy New Year!

  • Thank You for the 5 day’s. I was only expecting just the day missed. Now to save some money to put towards that 10% discount.

I’m thinking about preordering: The Order: 1886, Project Car’s, Uncharted 4, and maybe another game if I’m lucky.

Thank You PlayStation for being kind and listen to the gamer.

  • I don’t much care about the service outage over the holidays. That’s not Sony’s fault. Just extend everyone’s PS+ sub the extra days.

What I am still waiting to hear about is what Sony and Evolution are doing for the people who bought DriveClub! Here we are January 1, 2015, the game still isn’t right, and all that’s been offered up is free DLC. Extra ketchup for the half a burger they sold you when you paid for a whole burger. I might be on my own in my thinking, but I’m not spending another cent on anything Sony until I hear how people who bought that game are taken care of.

  • Thanks Guys, I am sure many people gave up their holidays to fix the network. Thanks for the discounts and will be filling the card up for the 10%.

  • This problems is not fixed,, I can’t re-new my psn membership since this mess started,, I can’t add funds to my wallet so I can’t re-new my membership. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed help pleasssssssssssse.

  • Are you serious? Do you really think this is going to make up for running Christmas? Shame on you.

  • This is Wonderful. Thank you so much :D

  • Sony you guys need to win your fans back, so I suggest you do better. Some people went Xbox because of your holdup.

  • Hiiiiiiiii

  • I got the 69 comment

  • And for those who first got their console on xmas day and weren’t able to get a ps+ because they couldn’t even create a ps accnt???

  • Happy New Year PlayStation!! Hey guys I just wanted to say thanks for working so hard and getting the network up so fast. Everybody cries and moans about the slightest inconvenience but I know you guys are solid, always have been. As far as free gifts we did not deserve any but I appreciate and will take that 10% all day. But, that 5 days of plus,I hate to say it but it kinda is a worthless gesture. I mean what is that like $0.75 worth of plus. I think 10 percent is plenty. Also I think you have your gifts backwards. If anything it should be 5 days of plus for all, and 10 percent discount for the loyal plus family

  • It’s good to see you are reimbursing us for the down time, but what irks me it’s that you are playing it off like “look how much we care for you, here is what we owe you” companies have to reimburse users for down time, period. Don’t spin it like you’re Oprah or something. The offer is more than enough and the 10% is quite generous. But the high horse wording just kills me.

  • @73, what part of that post reads like they think they’re Oprah? They stated as matter-of-factly as possible that people are getting compensated. What in the world should they have done, not told anyone? Jesus, people like you are never happy.

  • I don’t play online, so the 10% it’s like a gift for me.
    Thanks.

  • Thank you, Sony. Those of you complaining, it was only three days. Stop being such spoiled brats. They didn’t need to give us anything!

  • 10% off what a let down. i want free 50 dollar game then 10% off. those dynasty warrior a beast of a price to pay. tell you what sony sent me a 50 dollar PSN card instead then we will talk.

  • 5 days of plus (free) to everyone. Everyone could not sign in psn and like me, I got the game Pvz garden warfare for Christmas which is only online. And when I wanted to re-new my psn account to play the game it could not sign in, now I can sign in but I can’t add funds to my wallet. So this is a hold up of 7 day for me, from you Sony!!!!!!!

  • Undoubtedly, there are plenty of entitled babies on these comments complaining that they deserve more. Why? The only thing you were out was the ability to play games on PSN. Replacing the time lost, that we already paid for is perfectly fair and reasonable. I would have been upset if I didn’t get those days of PS+ back but I did.

  • Can I use the 10% discount toward buying another PS Plus extension?

  • @77 jeez did you lose anything like identity theft? I did not think so, so just accept what they have given us happily. Sony is far better to its consumers than Microsoft or even Nintendo, so again don’t complain and just be happy.

  • You know, the other day you guys were out for blood and now everything’s just wine and roses because Sony’s giving away free stuff. Never fails. Buy customers off an they’ll forget it ever happened. Sorry, but it won’t work on me. I’ve put up with your lousy service for about as long as I can stand it and I won’t be renewing my PS+ after this mess. I’m not paying $50 a year for the constant downtime that I have to deal with on a regular basis. I know this last ddos attack wasn’t your fault, but you could have handled things much better than you did, instead you just ignored everybody.

  • I hope this 10% discount comes on some flash deals hehe.

  • You def need to redo this.

My son was put out on Dec 25 and he didn’t have a plus membership but had a gift card to purchase a plus membership but couldn’t because of the black out.

So you rewarding people who had it leading up to it cause they were put out of their membership during the black out but so was anyone that was going to subscribed on Dec 25 from gifts and the like.

I think you need to give anyone that sub for a day or two after the black out the same treatment as they also suffered from the black out also and should be treated equally.

    Thank you…

  • Thanks, I wonder if I can use the 10% off coupon to buy another year of ps+??

  • @bigdaddyzews it’s not Sony’s fault that you get no time off from work. PSN was down for a whopping 3 days, so maybe you should calm the hell down. I know your whole holiday and life was ruined by this little mis-hap. They are in no way required to compensate anyone for anything. So quit *****ing so much and realize life isn’t perfect. Maybe go ask the hackers to compensate you for your hardship. Maybe you should go get an Xbone so we don’t have to listen to you complain, oh and you also have to pay for Xbox live which was hacked as well.

  • Thanks Sony! :D

  • Well played PlayStation.

  • Squared away. Good job

  • Thank you for doing the right thing by offering this incentive. Playstation continues to show its dedication to its customer’s happiness. That having been said, I do hope that in the coming year online security is made a top priority to prevent these kind of attacks from happening.

  • This is great — However — for my 2 boys that got the PS/4 on XMAS — we could not even get on the PlayStation Network to activate the trial — so we were out of luck. When we finally got the trial activated — the network was down so much they could really play that much. It would be nice if Sony considered a discounted paid membership instead?

  • Sony has become great at apologizing. I appreciate the extension and the 10% off. Thanks.

Just improve your network, please. Live was up 2-3 days faster than PSN.

  • Yeah I honestly say 5 days is a joke. What about all the past hacks that we haven’t gotten back, the security of our accounts? You give us discounts on games that probably no one wants. Playstation should be giving us a month for all the past hacks and considering that it went down on the holidays should be double time back to us since most of the online games had holiday features that no one got to see.

  • shut up stop complainging 84 the reason you dont get 5 days of plus is because its being given to the people who already hd plus subs and there subs were interrupted you et 10 % off a whole cart so thats all your getting you people are ridiculous you copmplain that they dont care when in fact you dont care you just want something free . and 5 days of free plus for everyone would be stupid because once the 5 days are up if you dont renew the ggames you downloaded wont work cause you need plus for that so shut up stop complaining if this ruined your christmas you need help how biout looking at your ugly kids and talking to them instead of throwing them infront of the tv

  • thanks sony happy holiday

  • Keep the PSN extension, and keep the 10% discount. What I would like, more than anything else, is an explanation from Sony about how and why this will never happen again. Use the money to strengthen and diversify the network infrastructure so these types of attacks become harder to make and easier to recover from. If Sony can do that, I’m satisfied.

  • 3 days down out of a one year subscription…that’s like $0.60 out of the $50 membership. What the hell do you complainers want?

If you intend to buy anything $10 or more with this 10% off coupon, you’re saving at least a $1 – which is more than what you are owed.

Thank you Sony for the offer and happy holidays to the entire team.

  • Ummmmm, what about us poor guys who opened a brand new PS4 on Christmas Day AND COULDNT CREATE A PSN ACCOUNT BECUASE YOIR NETWORK WAS DOWN!!!!!!!!!
