Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition

The seminal first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D, originally crashed onto the scene in 1996 and forever changed the genre with tight gunplay, a new level of interactivity, and a sense of humor then unseen before in games. Now your benevolent amigos at Devolver Digital, Abstraction Games, and General Arcade have brought 3D Realms’ legendary shooter to PS3 and PS Vita in the definitive collection — Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition. This kickass compendium of all things Duke Nukem 3D includes:

  • Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition — All four officially released episodes of the iconic shooter with carefully restored visuals, timeless gameplay, and all-new PlayStation Trophies.
  • Duke Caribbean: Life’s a Beach — Grab your water gun and sunscreen as Duke battles vacationing aliens in beach side hotels, tropical lagoons, and even a cruise ship!
  • Duke It Out in D.C. — Duke takes his special brand of politics to Washington D.C. to turn back the alien invasion set against the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and even FBI headquarters.
  • Duke: Nuclear Winter — Take a brutal walk through this winter wonderland as Duke gets into the holiday spirit by bringing the battle to the North Pole!

  • My complaints about the game:

-online play servers are down (can’t create or join a match)
    – there is no ad-hoc play, only wifi
-no online and no wifi means that it is impossible to play multiplayer

    My praises for the game:

    – You can rewind time if you die without having to start a level over
    – the frame rate and controls are great
    – many improvements over the original pc version

It’s just a HUGE bummer that I can’t play deathmatch against my friends. I used to have this on the original Playstation 1 and used the link cable to have 2 player deathmatch going to separate tvs! I even made a tribute of the Hollywood Holocaust map for Half-Life on pc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtdJZcQ-zZs

If they could just get the multiplayer kinks worked out, this would easily be my favorite Vita game. It would be so much fun fighting friends at this. Using the holodukes in clever areas to trick people, placing laser tripmines in smart locations, or stepping on friends after hitting them with a shrink ray is always a good time.

  • PlayStation 1 classic. This will be a great experience on PS3. Thank you all for being a part of the Sony PlayStation experience.

  • This game runs flawlessly on the Sega Saturn. Twenty years later, on the exponentially more powerful Vita, this game gets strange frame rate hiccups and corrupted saves and crashes. Seriously?

Overall it plays well, mind you, but could you please budget in a teeny bit of testing time before you release? We pay money for these games, and it reflects on you as a company showing us what is important to you.

    Thanks.

  • No physical release – no sale.

  • I haven’t noticed any framerate issues on my Vita. Really enjoying Duke Nukem 3D
