Toukiden: Kiwami Coming to PS4, Vita in March 2015

At this time last year, I blogged about Toukiden: The Age of Demons for PS Vita and we received a lot of positive feedback from many PlayStation fans here (that made us very happy)! Today we’re proud to be announcing that Toukiden: Kiwami is coming to PS4 and PS Vita on March 31, 2015 (both package and digital versions) in North America.

Toukiden: Kiwami has double the size and content of the original game, so you should expect new weapons, newly discovered Oni, new Mitama (over 100 new Mitama), new Slayers, new moves, and twice as many stages.

New Slayers Have Arrived!

Toukiden: Kiwami features both the original Toukiden: The Age of Demons story and a brand new story of roughly the same size, following the original. The truth will finally be revealed about the origins of the Slayers and the mysterious “Council of Elders.”

All your favorite characters from the first title return, such as Ōka, Hayatori, and the other characters from Utakata Village, while new characters such as Reki, Sōma, and Horō, make their first appearance, revealing additional depths to the story.

New Moves Based On Cooperation

One of the most popular features of Toukiden was the cooperative multiplayer mode; it allowed up to four players to join forces in the war against the Oni. This title strengthens the cooperative element further, with the introduction of a new and more powerful move than the “Destroyer” that can only be executed in cooperation with your human or NPC allies.

NPC AI has been improved for Toukiden: Kiwami, allowing you to work with smarter and more realistic allies than ever before in the war against the Oni!

New Mission Types — Face the Ultimate Challenge!

For those Slayers that think fighting just one Oni isn’t enough, a range of new special mission types have been added. Certain Mitama and other rewards can only be acquired in these missions.

Together with the collection of special materials that can only be acquired from new Oni and which can be used to create new weapons and armor, there is a host of new features in the game.

New weapons! Newly Discovered Oni! New Mitama!

A wide variety of new features have been added, from more difficult mission types to new weapon types such as the “naginata,” and new battle styles. A wide variety of terrifying and deadly new Oni also appear, including the mysterious Oni of the north, Snowflame, doubling the number of Oni from the original title.

In addition, the existing Oni have been strengthened with new moves, creating incredible tension on the field of battle.

Toukiden: Kiwami

New Story

Kiwami takes place three months after the battle to prevent another Awakening. The village of Utakata enjoys an uneasy peace. However, that peace is suddenly rendered asunder. Hitherto unknown Oni appear from the north, ripping the defenses of the Midlands to shreds.

Above you can watch the “almost” 6 minute animation to show you a brief story for Kiwami. Note: this animation serves as an introduction to the world of Toukiden: Kiwami and does not constitute part of the game.

Oh, and one last thing: carry across save data from Toukiden: The Age of Demons! Yes, your save data including weapons, armor, Mitama, and progress levels, can be carried across to Toukiden: Kiwami.

That’s all for now — until the next blog post. Have a nice day, everyone!

  • Day one because of cross-play. Love it!

  • Am I right to assume that the retail/package version will include the game on an actual physical cartridge for the Vita version? Or is it going to be another Minecraft where it’s just a digital code in a box? Would greatly prefer an actual physical release, Toukiden: The Age of Demons is my favorite Vita game so I have been patiently awaiting this release.

  • @ GrayFox1249 — read the article. It says physical for BOTH versions, so you’re in luck, lol.

  • Finally, this is why I passed on the first one. Day one buy for me, I been waiting for good MH clone, and FW did not looks all that appealing to me, and SSD was just ok. This on the other hand looks promising.

  • is the online going to be better then the first toukiden ?

  • Cross buy? Cross save?

  • Absolutely loved the first Toukiden, and have been itching to play it again, but I will be waiting for this instead. As many people have asked, here are my main questions.

    – Will this have Cross-Buy?
    – Will there be local multiplayer for the PS4?
    – Are there improvements to farming Mitama from the original? Attempting to collect all of them took FOREVER, and drop rates were super low on some, not to mention there wasn’t much of a guide to help you find the ones you’re missing. Any insight would be great.

Day 1 Buy, regardless. Keep up the great work!

  • Its going be in spanish, sub? Thanks!

Yes, you can carry across save data, including weapons, armour, Mitama and progress levels from Toukiden: The Age of Demons to Toukiden: Kiwami.

Is it possible to do this from Vita to PS4 or will you need the Vita version to import your save and the cross save it?

  • Yay, KT keeps supporting the Vita, so I keep supporting KT. I have Toukiden, all the Ateliers including Ayesha that came out this week and I will buy the new Toukiden. Please tell your team how appreciative we are for your continuing Vita support!

And that we JRPG lovers really, really would buy lots of Koei Tecmo avatars so please offer them whenever you release a game.

  • YES!.gif

    Please, please add Cross-Buy!

  • I really hope you can get some sort of Cross-Buy available for this game. I really want to get both versions, which would cost like $100, so even if it were a digital bundle for $80 or something, that would be amazing! I’ve been hoping for a while that KT would start doing this since most KT games are multiplatform, but only on Sony nowadays.

  • Will for sure be pre-ordering this when it becomes available in Gamestop. :) #PS4

  • I hope and pray I can transfer my character data from my ps vita to the ps4. PLEASE!!!!!

  • Finally got a Vita last week along with many games including Toukiden Age of Demons. I’ve been enjoying it a lot, so I will definitely pick this up specially after reading why TK decided to make the first Toukiden only for Vita…

  • So it’s a bit like Dissidia Duodecim or White Knight Chronicles 2, in that it’s a sequel that includes the original game. As opposed to the trend of releasing expanded versions of essentially the same game.

    And it’s cross-play.

    And cross-save.

And maybe but not sure yet cross-buy.

    Yep, you’re getting my money.

  • Awesome! Immensely enjoyed the first, real solid and fun weapon mechanics. The new classes all seem fun too! Glad to finally have a release date too, will pick up the PS4 version, though I wouldn’t mind grabbing both!

  • Great news!! Can not wait!!

  • Bless Koei!

    Imma buy this so hard.

  • Ill try and give this a go, i need a good co op game that i can play with my best friend on the ps4, im glad i passed this game up when it came out originally on the vita.

  • Looking forward to this. I know it doesn’t matter much, but I’ll be pushing to at least finish the storyline missions in the original game before this drops. I’m on Chapter 5, so I’m probably pretty close.

Incidentally, how will trophies work? Will I still be able to earn trophies from the first game like maxing out relationship levels and bathing 50 times? If I carry over my Toukiden save, can I expect a ton of trophies to pop or something?

  • This gets a thousand and one fist pumps in the air! I love this game on VITA and have been craving something of this nature on the PS4! Oh and may I say that anime was freaking awesome! I hope we could get that for cut scenes because it would just add to an amazing game! Thank you so much for bringing this to PS4 and having cross save/cross play I cannot wait for this, you guys made my list of must have games for 2015!!!

  • Do you think that the first Toukiden will go on sale anytime soon on the psn?
I really like the demo so far!

  • Awesome love the Vita support and physical release support. Now how about Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3 and Deception IV Another Princess port. Anyway keep up the vita support and maybe make a new

    Ninja Gaiden 4
    Rygar
    Fatal Frame

I would take a Rygar Vita port if original with trophies loved that game. Pretty please.

  • port of original (PS2) classic

  • @74
Wow did you really call me an idiot cause I don’t support this type of translation pratice. I just vote with my wallet. I don’t like it when companies go sub only. I like my games in english. It just seems cheap to me. I’m a little more forgiving if its a really really small company cause I know they can’t front the cash all the time and they actually admit to it like xseed.

  • How will transferring the original Vita version save file to the new PS4 version work? Is that even possible? I would love to bring all my armour over.

    • “..carry across save data from Toukiden: The Age of Demons! Yes, your save data including weapons, armor, Mitama, and progress levels, can be carried across to Toukiden: Kiwami.” — So it’s a yes.

  • hi from those of us who have bought and finished the original toukiden – HOW ABOUT TOSSING US A BONE?

Any chance of a discount for us who already bought (and finished) the game “included into” kiwami?

We’re basically gonna buy the original (even IF there’d be “added content”) all over again but just want to play the new stuff.

Sounds like what happened with Soul Sacrifice and Delta on which Sony burned buyers of the original.
That soured me on finishing SS at all!

  • Thanks so much for catering to the North American market, Chin Soon Sun. At first, I thought you only cared for the European market. Glad you have a change of heart and did something nice for the US side. Will consider getting this game for sure. :)

@Souledge94 Just ignore him. Knowing you from the Freedom Wars topic, your complaints are justified and I won’t stop you.

  • That’s all well and good that you’re bringing the game over, but at least have the decency to fully translate it. You’re only shooting yourselves in the foot when you don’t. A lot of people including myself won’t buy a game if it’s not 100% in English. Subtitles in a movie are a nuisance. Subtitles in a game are down right distracting and take away from the overall immersion in the game

    NO ENGLISH = NO BUY

  • @90

Don’t think of it like Soul Sacrifice Delta. If you read what they actually said in the post, this is more of a situation like Dissidia Duodecim or White Knight Chronicles 2. A sequel that includes an enhanced version of the original game.

So really, you don’t need to be thrown a bone. It’s a sequel to a game you already enjoy, with the original tossed in with added features. You’re kinda already being tossed a pretty hefty bone there.

  • Cool! Really enjoyed Toukiden.

  • Chin soon will their be a demo for kiwami or no

  • This is the first best news I heard(read) so far. Thanks Koei!

  • Is it going to have spanish subs? (Well, if not… Still day1 buy for me! :p)

  • I love Koei’s continued support of Vita! This release is going to be very good for the players, and I wish Koei and Omega Force prosperity in the future!

Unfortunately for me, I sold my Vita earlier this week–but continued releases like this one may prevent other people from coming to that conclusion in the future. Besides! Because it is releasing for PS4, I may be able to enjoy this as well!

    Great work Koei!

    ありがとう

  • I absolutely love and still play Toukiden on Vita. It’s so much fun. When this comes out I’ll be buying three copies so me and my two best buds can play it on PS4 Super pumped.

Also people complaining about japanese characters speaking japanese? LOL k. That’s a worthwhile complaint. Also someone mentioned having to learn japanese…. Like… you could also just learn to read maybe?

  • The only thing that turned me off the first one was the lack of English subs. Here’s to hoping…
