The Drop

Grab your best purple suit, folks, because the 3rd Street Saints are back in business and ready to embark upon a dangerous mission through fire, brimstone, and a legion of tormented souls. Yes, this is really happening. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell are on the way to PlayStation.

For those of you that missed the original Saints Row IV, Re-Elected brings the super-powered open-world to PS4 with all the DLC packed right in. The Boss has been elected as President of the United States, but a brutal alien invasion has trapped him (or her) inside a computer simulation. Free Boss from the simulation, save planet Earth, and be stylish as all get-out.

And following these sweeping events, Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is a standalone expansion that finds the Boss unwillingly engaged to the Devil’s daughter. Time for Gat and Kinzie to plow through the depths of the nightmarish underworld and get him out.

And that’s just the start of this week’s new games. Head below for the full list, and enjoy the Drop!

  • Will citizens of earth be cross buy between vita and ps4?

  • @GummyCore – Agree 100% with your remark about Ryan. Maybe if more people shared these frustrations we’d see an improvement.

Ryan, it would be so much better if you didn’t reply at all. Your pointless happy comments are a huge slap in the face to all those you ignore. Also, do us a favor an never say “I’ll look into it” again. You have never gotten back to anyone after saying that.

  • Everyone needs to bother the hell out of Jake Solomon on twitter to get xcom to vita. Saints Row 4 is fun :)

  • Man the hurt over not having a question answered in this is brutal.

    @PantheMan16,

BS flag has been thrown. Just last week he stated he would look into the Atlier Ayesa game, and did update the post to include it when it wasn’t posted with it.

He might not know everything, but you also have to remember it’s Sunday, and the Sony office isn’t likely filled with people from teh marketing, or digital store team.

Sure, it sometimes seems as if he isn’t much help, but I suspect he does what he can with what information is given to him.

  • Citizens of Earth is $14.99 and is not cross-buy.

There will be a 20% PS Plus discount for two weeks, making it $11.99.

In the time you guys spent b****ing out Clements, you could’ve just looked that up yourself.

  • @55 There’s no reason that info couldn’t just be in the post to begin with. I cant imagine why Sony wants to keep such pertinent information as prices secret until the day of release.

  • Getting Gat Out of Hell.

  • There is no reason for price to be left out. What does that accomplish anyway? PSN store’s price on release is always srp, it’s not like we are going to compare that with other stores, selling physical version, to find the best bargain in town. And for digital-only releases we don’t have other alternative sources anyway (maybe except the few digital download codes from Amazon, but those are typically srp too on day 1).

Letting us know the price early allows us to plan our gaming budget, and buy PSN stored-value card if necessary. The price will also give us some idea (rightly or wrongly) about a game itself — whether it’s a budget title, whether it’s an indie game (and overpriced on PS platforms compared to Android/iOS versions), what to expect in terms of the size and scope of the game, etc.

If we are going to Google everything ourselves, why bother with a The Drop post at all? We are going to know what’s released when they are released a couple of days later anyway. What does telling us about the upcoming games of the week in advance without telling us the price accomplish?

  • @ yowzagabowza

Obviously, they don’t consider the price to be pertinent information because the games aren’t for sale yet. Perhaps the point of these PREVIEW posts are just to whet our appetites a little… and not necessarily to help us prepare for making such an insignificant decision in our lives.

“Golly! I sure gotta prepare for this video game release just right! Or else! OMG! What am I going to do! If I don’t know the price right now, I’m not sure I’ll survive! Oh my! It IS such a BIG deal!”

Anyway, I must say I agree with @PanTheMan16 when he said: “Ryan … do us a favor and never say ‘I’ll look into it’ again. You have never gotten back to anyone after saying that.”

I fully support this statement. Simply because I personally can’t stand when people pose like they’re dedicated to something, only to continually flake out when the time comes. Owning up to your word is a very important thing, and I can’t support a person who neglects such a sacred responsibility. Clements definitely needs a wake-up smack.

  • @56

Maybe because some prices are in flux up until just about the last possible minute? There have been occasions where pricing info they were given wasn’t correct and had to be changed within minutes of a title being uploaded to the Playstation Store. Suikoden II was a recent example.

Not giving the prices until the store post goes up helps to mitigate the dissemination of false information in cases like these.

There’s a reason for everything. Contrary to popular belief, they’re not withholding price information just to mess with us.

  • I’ll grab Resident Evil on a sale sometime down the road. Otherwise it’s another week of ‘nothing for me’.

  • Resident Evil sounded sweet. No thanks tho for $20

  • GummyCore on January 18th, 2015 at 7:02 pm said: “We are going to know what’s released when they are released a couple of days later anyway. What does telling us about the upcoming games of the week in advance without telling us the price accomplish?”

You inadvertently revealed the futility of your own argument. Heh.

You’re going to know what’s released a couple of days later anyway. Exactly. What’s the point of listing the prices when you’d also find them out at the same time? See? Obviously, the point of The Drop is to mediate general interest, and not necessarily to “sell” anything to us just yet. A nebulous strategy, for sure, but still a method of consumer stimulation nonetheless.

Some higher-ups are clearly involved with this particular approach to marketing. Once you realize that, it becomes a “take it or leave it” scenario. It’s not Clements’ fault, in this case, for he is only doing as he is told. I only wish he would be a little more accountable to his word.

  • Any chance that RE Remaster could eventually make its way to Vita?

  • @PrimeroIncognito, The Drop is only to stimulate interest (instead of, say sharing information)? Except for some must-have games which one will buy regardless of price, isn’t price part of the consideration anyone has when determining one’s interest level? Would you be interested in Splice if it’s $59.99? Would you be interested in Resident Evil if it’s $59.99 or perhaps if it’s $14.99? Unless one is very rich (or foolish), price is always part of the equation. Publishing the price together sets the right consumer expectation. (The Sony VR headset is so cool, I am so interested, I’ll take 2. Wait, what do you mean it’s not $59.99?) Did Sony not tell us the price of PS4 before release day?

  • So January is over halfway over and I’m… pretty sure no one has that 10% off code yet?

It’s already really tacky that it’s not out now, but it’s just going to be extremely so if you guys wait until the sale ends to spread it around.

  • And yeah, regarding price, I’ve always found it a bit off putting to not give us the info on upcoming sales and prices beforehand. You guys end the prior week’s sales before we get a chance to see what next week is going to bring. If we got the necessary information today, though, we could get a $50 card tomorrow to spread across the last day of the sales then as well as the first day of whatever the new week brings.

All in all the system just needs some work. Then again, a lot of the stuff you guys are doing needs work.

  • It really doesn’t make any difference for me if the prices are revealed 2 days early or not, but the fact is they already have that information (perhaps not Ryan) and choose not to share it. Sony is often compared to Steam and I think that’s very relevant because we are way behind where we could/should be. Maybe some people only do their shopping on the weekends and would like to know which PSN card to buy in preparation for Tuesday’s releases.

  • By the way I am (and we are) not saying it’s Ryan Clement’s fault for not telling us the prices. Obviously all he does is take whatever product blurbs he was given and format them. I am (and we are) saying that Sony, whoever higher-ups making the decision, has to change this practice of withholding the pricing information, as it does not help anyone.

(to be continued due to char limit)

  • However I am am saying it’s Ryan Clement’s fault that he only babysits his posts for like 10 mins after pushing the Publish button (hey, I know it’s Sunday, but a job is a job) and only gives absolutely meaningless ‘courtesy’ replies (to perhaps just the first 10 comments, and not much beyond BEYOND!) to create the illusion that he responds to the community. Except on very rare occasions, he does not act as a bridge between the community and Sony, does not bring our questions back to the right people in Sony or publishers (which we as customers do not have access to) and coming back to provide us the pertinent information we need. He comes across as someone who knows very little about what’s going on, about the games that are coming and certainly as someone who isn’t helpful at all. (Chieh Chen, on the other hand, I feel demonstrates a good balance in engaging the community as well as providing helpful information.)

  • More rehashed crap and shovel ware. Never anything NEW, just pathetic. You seriously do not care about either the opinion of your customers, or even the stupid console war your supposed to be in.

Gee, what happened last time? I almost forgot that the last time someone tried this, the entire fanbase walked away. (Ask Atari, or ANY arcade owner).

Your so out of ideas.. you keep remaking games that do not need a remake. Stop buying every infernal POS that comes across your desk Sony. HAVE STANDARDS.

History repeats itself, especially for people who are too idiotic to listen to the fans that MADE ALL THIS HAPPEN. That’s right, if it wasn’t for the money we hand you, where would you be?

Do you even care where WE are?

You have a space age console, and Commadore 64 games to play on it.

    Rock Boshers DX? Seriously?

  • Can someone PLEASE tell me when is Oreshika 2; Tainted Bloodlines coming stateside? This game was supposed to be released in December 2014. Dec., came and went and so did all the noise this game was making as I haven’t heard a peep about it since… Please let me know something because this is the very last game I will be buying and playing on the Vita before I give up on it just like Sony has done. So please let me know if the game’s still coming to the west… Thank you

  • And.. leave Clements alone.. He could do the drop on fire and it would still be 1000 times better than the previous guy. If anything, he’s salvaged The Drop.

  • @Knightedrik, I STRONGLY disliked Rey, but he was far better at this. Stop brown-nosing in an attempt to receive a pat on the back. They’re just people.

  • @ GummyCore

Dude, I only told you the way it is. Why complain to me? I don’t run SCEA.

Send an e-mail to the top if it means that much to you. The rants on the blog aren’t going to accomplish anything. Nothing but shooting the messenger goes on around here.

As far as set prices go, value will always be subjective. Price doesn’t determine consumer interest in owning a product, it only determines that product’s level of accessibility. Maybe someone feels like Splice is worth $59.99. Some people wouldn’t buy it for a dollar. Who cares. Buy what you want. Ignore the rest. The great thing about an open market is that the consumer always has the power of choice.

And for #%@#$ sake… do people REALLY need to know the price two days before? For what? Saving up? What kind of wack excuse is that? Shouldn’t you already have the money saved up anyway? Video games are a luxury, after all. Broke folks should worry about stocking their kitchen cabinets first. Learning of the price a mere two days later shouldn’t be uprooting anyone’s life plans. You people will complain about anything, I swear.

  • Not brown nosing, lol. Yes, he does not leave much “commentary”.. but these things are supposed to sell themselves. He simply has to be the go between. Which shouldn’t bother you… as long as he is doing his job, which is telling you what’s for sale. If you don’t know what it’s gonna be, then what’s he supposed to do.. a full “Let’s Play”. People show up here with money in hand to make plans.. if you do not recognize a game, then Google it. It’s not Clements job to sit around here and pat backs, his job is to say, “Hey, check this out..”. if you want more, do the legwork.. or your homework.. whichever is more important to you.

And he is better than the last guy. Monday afternoon Drop anyone?

I have no need to brown nose. I do not want a ‘pat on the back’, But it seems you like trolling.. PanTheMan

  • @ PanTheMan16

Those weekend shoppers should just buy PSN cards in advance.

Do you really expect a business to specifically cater to each and every single type of customer there is? Is that even possible? They could try, but at some point, all parties involved would eventually realize that compromises need to be made. Find a way to make it work.

  • @78, I think you may have missed my point. So here’s a (hypothetical) scenario:
I have little money for games and I’m a paranoid baby who refuses to input credit card information. I live in a rural area and hit up Best Buy on Sundays. I would like to know if I should buy a $20 or $50 PSN card for the next week. I have a good idea of the launch prices, but if my guess is off by $1 that makes a big difference. Game prices aren’t determined at the very last minute, and really, Ryan probably does have those prices in front of him – including PS+ discounts – along with the list of upcoming games. Sure, “prices are subject to change”, but we can cross that bridge if we come to it.

Fortunately, I’m one of the other 90+% who has no issue using my credit card, or even PayPal. Just sayin’, if Ryan/Sony has the prices available – and they do – and the vast majority of the PS community wants them 2 days before launch, then they should be posted in The Drop. Like I and many others have said, Steam is far ahead when it comes to providing pricing information and pre-orders.

Where is the miserable 10% discount?

I feel that these “rewards” will be promises to be vanished.

  • With all the downloads out there, why doesn’t the PS4 come with a 1 TB hard drive? They’re out there in the 2.5″ size and the competition does have them already in use. What’s taking this concept so long to be picked p by PlayStation? Also, don’t tell me that we can swap out HDD, we already know this, who buys a new system only to spend more $$ and time doing a ‘swap out’.
Also, on a side note, I’ve been a Plus member since before 2010 and of late when I comment it doesn’t show the Plus sign beside my avatar? Well, let’s see if it does this time.
