Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Hits PS4 on March 24th

Ever since we announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, nearly every fan I’ve heard from at trade shows, on Twitter, in the comments, or on the forums has asked one question: when is it coming to PS4? Well, we appreciate your patience, and today we have some good news for all of you: not only are we bringing The Pre-Sequel to PS4 on March 24th, but Borderlands 2 is coming along with it! Both titles will be available in one package as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for $59.99.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

The Handsome Collection has both games running in gorgeous HD and looking pretty damn great, at a resolution and performance level never before seen in Borderlands on consoles. Beyond that, The Handsome Collection also has another cool first for Borderlands: four-player split-screen! Yup, four friends can hang out on the couch and play in split-screen on a single TV with The Handsome Collection, in Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel.

Have you already started Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and/or Borderlands 2 on PS3 or Borderlands 2 PS Vita? Don’t worry: using cross-save functionality, you’ll be able to transfer your save to and from PS4 to pick up right where you left off, along with your leveled-up character, Badass Rank, and everything else you worked so hard for.

Back when Borderlands 2 came out in 2012, it launched alongside a pretty extravagant Collector’s Edition that some of you might have been able to snag. With Borderlands 2 and all of its add-on content coming to next-gen, we knew we had to top ourselves. And so, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will receive an extremely limited Collector’s Edition, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition!

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Limited to only 5,000 units worldwide, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition includes a remote controlled Claptrap steward bot that you’ll control with a companion app from your iOS or Android device. You’ll be able to play voice samples of some of Claptrap’s most iconic lines and look through a camera to see where Claptrap is headed, all while you control his every move (while balancing on one wheel)! The Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition also includes 12 really cool exclusive Vault Hunter lithographs, and a collectible steel case. It’ll be available for $399 at participating retailers, and we recommend getting a move on it if you’re interested — we don’t expect these to last long.

Lastly, we’ll be talking more about The Handsome Collection during our panels at PAX South this week, and I hope we’ll see some of you in San Antonio. Even if you can’t make it, stay tuned for more details leading up to launch.

See you on Pandora and Elpis!

  • FUN FUN FUN! I love the robot, just brilliant! I might get this edition to get all the DLC’s and the pre-sequel. (in 1080p 60fps?)

  • Any chance this will be cross play with ps3?

  • Destiny is so screwed

  • Please release the retail package of Borderlands 2 Complete Edition on the PlayStation®3 system which includes the Game of the Year game plus all DLC not found (i.e., Head Hunter DLCs and the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack Two: Digistruct Peak Challenge) in the Game of the Year Edition.

  • BEYOND!

Thank you for listening to all of us begging for this, and for supporting a 4 player split screen game these days

Will the games have any extra flourishes besides a resolution/frame rate bump, for example the PC version’s physics?

Will menus work any differently or better for split screen than it has in the past?

  • I have only recently gotten into the Borderland series, as I have spent my time focused on other genres, IPs. So this is coming at a great time for me… can’t wait to see it, along with all the extras.

  • Thanks Andrew, im sure itll be better than bioshock infinite ;}

  • What if you played Borderlands 2 on Xbox 360 but then wanted to transfer to PS4?

  • I think you guys can stop squeezing the soul out of Borderlands now… I think you milked every last drop from the franchise.

Borderlands was great, the sequal was good, your vita port was lacking, the pre-qual sequal was just another kick to the dead horse and on top of the adventure game you guys are letting Telltale do (wich I personally won’t be picking up) you are re-releasing the old games on ps4….

Cause that’s what ps4 needs more of… last gen’s games.

  • I was so depressed since I missed out on getting my very own Claptrap and then I realized at least i’m not Anthony Burch.
The clouds have parted and the sun is shining.

  • I’m soooooooooooo pumped for this

  • I seriously just started playing 2 again and I was wondering when it’d be on the psn. Ive also been waiting for the pre sequel to come out on PS4 so this is so exciting! I’ll play 2 a third time :)

  • Oh cool they are bringing Borderlands TPS to the PS4 ( continues reading) AND BORDERLANDS TWO AND ALL THE DLC!!! My heart stopped.

  • When i hear this news today i was nothing but thankful, i have BL2 on pc but since my pc is older and can only run it on very low settings i gave up. want to upgrade my pc to a good gaming up but its not cheap as everyone knews. now thats its coming to the ps4 i can how play enjoy this series once again :D

  • Double-dipping into folks’ the only way they’re going to optimize their profits on The Pre-Sequel after its rating tanked as hard as Gearbox’s cruise-control handling of the franchise deserved.

People have just got to stop trusting this company to put in the effort. People have to remember that Randy is always going to be a magician, and they are trained at deception, diversion, and distraction. He’s been a perfect salesman for them; a friendly, likable guy that excels at creating this massive illusion of Gearbox being a worthy developer putting out worthy product.

  • Borderlands fan here, instant buy for me!

  • This is fantastic news, i cant wait to get my hands on it.

  • Will this collection be offered digitally as well or only on disc?

  • These are the kind of games I want for the PS4, split screen fun. Yes it’s a remake of a game I already own, but who cares at this point. My wife and I were hoping when Destiny was being hyped that it would be split screen, but it wasn’t. Horrible disappointment that it is only single player at a time per console… Great game, just leaves one of us out all the time.

With this we can get back into the game together, side by side, and no watching one person play wishing you could jump in on the experience. (I for one, don’t have the money to buy a second tv/console/subscription setup…)

I also want to say that this is a screamin’ deal, and I will purchase it as soon as I can. Can’t wait!

  • Is there any information on how much this will cost

  • Any word on when we might be able to preorder this on the PS Store? This is a game that I’m likely to be playing quite a bit, so would certainly be worth having digitally.

  • Another remastered game but no new PS4 experience. What a joke.

  • Awsome

  • Ugh.. What about ps vita? For the love of God gearbox! Pleaaaassseee!!

  • I never have borderlands game, but I’ll might gonna get that copy for the PS4. :)

  • Wanted the Collector’s edition but sold out within minutes. I’ll pick this up again just ’cause you guys put some extra effort by adding 4 player splitscreen ;)

Please consider creating more ClapTrap in a box Collector’s editions. Theres demand for it.

    Thank you

  • pumped at the news and cant wait for more at pax south

  • I have a question. Can I transfer my Vita save file to the PS4 version, or do I have to transfer it to the PS3 and then to PS4?

  • Speaking of Vita, are there any news on releasing the rest of the DLC for the Vita? Thanks.

  • @128 Nevermind. I just re-read it and realized I can transfer my Vita save file to PS4 lol. Can’t wait though.

  • Pre-sequel? Really? No thanks. If it was just BL2 I’d be all over this.

  • @5 TheWintendoHii Don’t like it, don’t buy it. Simple. Enhanced ports have been done since the beginning of gamer time and aren’t going anywhere. The PS3 had its HD collections and now so does the PS4. Not everyone has played the same games as you, video games do not revolve around you. Again, don’t like it don’t buy it.

  • When will pre orders for digital start? I habe money on my account and its enough for the game so id like to know when pre order start so i dont end up spending it on something stupid

  • HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE!!!

  • I’m very excited for this but I just have one question about it all, Will I be able to re-earn all the trophies again?

  • Totally jumping on this. I think I have BL2 for X360 and I’m still on board for this.

  • You guys are big or remaking stuff, how about killzone 2, uncharted 2 and the original MotorStorm!!!

Specially the first MotorStorm love that game, 2 and 3 not so Much!

  • 4 player splitscreen?! AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEA

although it’s missing Stereo 3D. I’m sure PS4 is more than capable of that in single player, plus it’s already been done on PC.

  • I preordered the Claptrap edition.

I really hope it actually ends up being worth the $400. The prototype video was promising.

  • Though, somewhat important question.

The write-up on EB Games/Gamestop/Amazon and some other sites mentions transferring your saves INTO this version. It doesn’t say anything about the other way. Specifically into the Vita version.

    Is that functionality still in?

  • Man this is sweet I can’t wait to pick this up for my PS4. I’ve only ever played Borderlands 1 GOTY but it was great. Full well planned on getting Borderlands 2 GOTY but missed out on the opportunity then I just sorta forgot about it. When Borderlands The Pre-Sequel came out I figured I was much to far behind in this series to ever catch up. So I am ver happy to hear both games will be releasing on the PS4 together with all the add-ons included for one price that is a fantastic deal. I’m also very excited for Pax South this weekend. I live here in San Antonio and will definitely be attending. Hoping some Borderlands esq. giveaways will be at the Gearbox live panel. I have one question though. Since Borderlands The Pre-Sequel is indeed a prequel to Borderlands 2 should I play that first or would I be better served playing Borderlands 2 first?

  • You guys NEED to bring the first borderlands too.it just feels wrong not having the trifecta come out in order or at the same time. People playing those 2 will be fine and such but there will be a lot of references lost. You guys are also leaving out a lot of love for the 1st game that made the series big, this is sad. I know I’m complaining too much for this awesome news but there has to be a critical thinker here somewhere, right?

  • More game than most people have time to play. Buy this and you’re set for a year.

  • How about porting Borderlands, and borderlands Pre-sequel to the Vita ? The engine is running, don’t waste it. BL2 is far from perfect on Vita ( still many bugs ) but it feels right at home in term of gameplay and fun…

Please don’t forget us, Vita gamers. Double stick portable system IS the perfect FPS portable system…

  • Important question:
I have Borderlands 2 for PS3, Japanese version.
When I’ll buy this collection, I must buy from the same region (japanese) for using my save data?
Or is ok even if I buy US or European version?
    Thank you.

  • Can people please stop complaining? There are plenty of new IPs coming to PS4 already, but there’s also a balance of ports too. I am all too pleased to see Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel make their way over, mostly because my PS3 is on its last leg and there’s no way I’m replacing it if it goes out. I think this is a fantastic move and my hat’s off to whoever decided to go through with this. Thanks for continuing to bring great games over to the next generation, especially for those who might have missed out previously.

  • This is a pretty amazing collection of content. Although I own this game on PS3, the inclusion of DLC and the Pre-Sequel make this a very appealing collection to add to my library of PS4 games.

  • Funny how you guys said that you was not re releasing the pre sequel for next gen consoles now you have a 400 bundle well i wont be buying anything boarderlands or associated again just my opinion smh just go play it on the old consoles

  • Can I pre order this and is there a discount for people that have already bought the dlc’s and playable char mech is the only one I got tho

  • @Welmosca You should read more carefully. They are not shoveling old stuff to cash grab. Have you seen their Twitter?
Millions of people have asked for this on Next-Gen. Why would 2K ignore their fans?
I’ve played every Borderlands game I could get my hands on, and I have to say, I am ecstatic about this release! My favorite and most prized series I have ever played. Stuck on a desert island? This would be my First, Second, AND Third choice. That might be bias talking, but I love Borderlands. Can’t wait!
