PlayStation Plus: February’s Free Games

This is a pretty awesome month for PlayStation Plus members with a variety of quality titles across PlayStation platforms entering the service.

On PlayStation 4 you’ll receive one of the coolest games from last year – the critically acclaimed strategy/action RPG Transistor. PS4 owners will also get Apotheon, an action platformer set in Greek mythology, the day it releases on PlayStation Store. PlayStation 3 owners can explore the ins and outs of Tokyo with Yakuza 4 or sneak about The City stealing what you can in Thief. PlayStation Vita owners can see how many generations of champions it takes to beat the quirky Rogue Legacy and jump around as a little boy with a big gun (not so much for shooting enemies as it is launching you around) in Kick & Fennick, which is also releasing day and date in PlayStation Plus.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting February 3rd. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video below. When you watch, you may notice that the voice over has changed a bit, and my friend Ryan Clements is narrating instead of me. He’ll be handling the Plus communications from now on, including this post in the future, so thank you guys for all the support over the past couple years!

  • Really? no AAA for ps4?? im out man, indie is great but too much of everything is bad and ps plus sucks balls for ps4. you’re about to lose one more costumer to microsoft

  • Finally decent games

  • Nothing for me to play this month own most of the games here at less playing dying light and evolve this month and the order :)

  • I was JUST about to buy Transistor. This is awesome!

  • I never comment here, just pop in to check the free upcoming titles. Thanks again for another wonderful lineup, but that’s not why I’m commenting. What’s wrong with you people? Crying about the freebies not being good enough? It’s 50 bucks a year, and you get thousands of dollars of free games in that time frame. Get over yourselves already! Instead of acting like a bunch of spoiled brats, go spend your 4 bucks a month on a hard copy game that you choose yourself or just su and learn to appreciate the fact that we get MANY free games each month, unlike what I get on my xbox, 1 usually crappy title every 2 weeks! Thanks again psn for another stellar month of freebies!

  • Glad we got this package. Dunno why people are complaining about getting any AAA titles when there are barely any good games on the PS4 to begin with.

  • Awesome lineup, I always wanted to try transistor, however I’m a bit disappointed about thief for PS3 instead os PS4

  • Wow. @45 whining that a game he wanted to pay for is free. Now I’ve seen everything.

    Worst comment section around.

  • Cool lineup! Thanks!

  • WoW! Eipic Month Y4 and Thief and Transistor and Apotheon and Rogue Legacy @_@ OMG

  • To those of you who state that you’re upset at Sony for the indies in Playstation Plus and are now going to go buy an XBox One with Games for Gold…allow me to pull back the curtain on their offerings for February…

For XBox One: #IDARB – An INDIE GAME that’s described as “constantly-evolving, crowd-sourced, minimalist game mechanic sketchbook”

And For 360 – Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons — An beautiful INDIE GAME that PS+ owners received this time last year, and
    Sniper Elite 2, a triple A game with a Metacritic of 67

    Have Fun!!!

  • Good lineup for Vita and PS3, PS4 gets bad stuff this month.

  • Can’t say I’m SUPER excited about this update as I already own Rogue Legacy and Transistor, also I would’ve much preferred the PS4 version of Thief be offered. That aside I am looking forward to Yakuza 4 and am interested to try the other titles so still a fairly good month. I hope other people enjoy Transistor and Rogue Legacy as much as I do ^^

  • Transistor was in my top 3 of 2014.

Apotheon, can’t wait to try this out!

Rogue Legacy is a beast of a game.

    Solid lineup fellas!

  • Oh wow… Transistor, Rogue Legacy, Thief… I can’t believe this. Thank you guys so much! January and February 2015 have definitely been the best Plus months in quite some time!

  • OMG thanks for thief i´ve been waiting for this one for a while

  • fun line up for the consoles I do own.

  • I was really hoping Thief would’ve been for the PS4. My PS3 collects dust. I only use it for Netflix and Hulu Plus in the bedroom.

  • I really like this line up. I get to try Thief which is pretty awesome.

  • No more Kristine voice in videos ?! :i’masadpanda: =|

  • Great month

  • Awesome! Cool games.

  • Amazing month! Just Yakuza 4 is enough, but Rogue Legacy is a superb game as well. I alreay got Transistor a few months back and I can’t reccomend it enough too, it’s one of the best games of last year.

  • Awesome lineup! A little upset I had already bought Transistor, but more people should play that game!

  • Can’t complain this month. It’s a shame about Thief being PS3 only, but it’s not a game I was ever going to buy, and it’s FREE, so beggars can’t be choosers. Very happy about Transistor, abs while I already own Yakuza 4 on disc, this is a smart move by Sony to get more people interested in the franchise with the Western release of Yakuza 5 on the horizon. I’ll gladly download my digital copy of Y4 just to own it again.

Sad to hear you’re going, Kristine. Where are you headed?

  • Interesting line-up. I bit the bullet and bought the ps plus upgrade of Driveclub. It is now only £20 and it’s a fantastic racer. I understand that Sony didn’t deliver on their promise with a free version, but for £20 you’ll get the best graphical racer of this gen. Obviously only my opinion. Have a great weekend.

  • Awesome addition to +

    + = reason for my ps4

  • What a great line-up! Thank you so much!

  • Amazing.

  • Also, very stoked about Rogue Legacy, as I’ve heard so many good things about it. I now have a PS TV and not a Vita, but knowing that I will soon own this game for free on all three of my Playstation consoles is tempting me to pick up one of the new PS Vitas in the near future.

By the way, could you include Playstation TV in the list of platforms for games that are PS TV compatible? Not all Vita games work with PS TV so its very important to know what games are compatible before purchasing and/or downloading them.

  • i recommend not buying any indie game.they all show up for free eventualy.THX sony!!!!for all the crapy free games…oh ! and how many years you gotta wait before keeping your word and give us drive club ?? THXXX SONYYY !!

  • Transistor, Thief, Yakuza 4 and cross-buy Rogue Legacy? Nice! If only Thief was cross-buy though.

My PS3 hard drive has a 750GB HDD and it is full.
My PS4 500GB HDD is nearly full already also.
Dear Sony, Please suggest a way to retain the already incredible games we have and attain the wonderful games you are providing us.
I do not want to miss out on new releases or PS+ gifts due to lack of HDD space.

Just buy the games on a computer or cellphone and don’t download until you are going to play them, they will be in the library section ready to download.

When you finish a game delete it

    Simple

  • Wow, this is a great month. Glad to see I’ll have Transistor to look forward to when I finally get a PS4. And is Rogue Legacy cross-buy?

  • I’m a little disappointed to not hear Ryan’s Wrapup at the end of the video.

  • Transistor is fine… but I don’t like anything else, Yakuza is meh for me, I know is noy bad but not my kind of game…. Thief… I’m not gonna talk about it, but the Vita games.. THE VITA GAMES… I’M SICK OF PLAYING INDIES ON MY VITA!, I know that you can’t give away big AAA titles because YOU SONY are letting the Vita die ignoring it pretty badly, but at least give away PSP Games, I’m just so sick of using my Vita to play games that I could play on any smartphone.

  • Solid month, really. I’m impressed.

Kinda disappointed that I bought Transistor back during one of the PAX sales and still actually have yet to play it but no sense whining over the $10 or whatever it was that I spent months ago; it’s not like it would really make a difference for me now or not.

Thief I have on PS4 but I’ll take a free double-dip on PS3, doesn’t bother me in the least.

Yakuza has always been a curiosity since a friend of mine never shuts up about them and even imported them back when they were only out in Japan.

Apotheon looks very interesting, but I’ve always been into different Mythologies, and as much as I liked God of War, that story has pretty much run its course.

Rogue Legeacy, I could take it or leave it. I don’t have a Vita but since it’s a cross buy between the three platforms, we’ll see. And no Vita = no Kick & Fennick, but that doesn’t bother me at all, either.

  • And, I don’t normally comment on what other users post, everyone is entitled …. no, bad word there, everyone has their own opinion. But seriously, #45, complaining that you wanted to spend money on it instead being given it for free so that you can still play it when your PS+ membership expires? That’s a new one. Unless your membership is about to expire in the next month, maybe two, how likely is it that you’ll still be playing it that far after release? And hey, if you are still playing it, then you can make that separate $15 (most likely) purchase for life that you’re wanting to.

  • wow Im actually excited for both of PS4’s Indies for once. PS3’s also arent bad at all. But once again, I am disappoint with Vita’s selection. I simply dont care about more platformers, we get so freakin many of them!

Seriously, try harder with Vita! Duke Nukem last month was the first PS+ Vita game I actually cared about in quite a while :/

  • I’m a little annoyed that we have to play Theif on the inferior, last gen system. I think Thief REALLY should have been cross buy and have the PS4 version available as well.

  • Oh and still no plans for the PROMISED PS+ Driveclub edition? So are you guys just gonna openly lie and forget about that now?

  • …really…
I am relieved not extending my PS- subscription wich is ending in february!
SONY has been screwing US all, I mean PS4 owners, since the PS4 day one.
Shmuck their “never to be for PS- members” DRIVECLUB – I’ll buy Namco game instead.
And their 10% discount and 5 days of PS- – it’s not an apology, it’s insult for almost 2 weeks of PSN down.
    So long PS-, like forever.

  • Gotta LUV ps plus :) $50 a year and we get so MANY great games :) Been wanting to buy Transistor – luckily it’s free this month! I’m not huge on RPGs but I want to play this game for it’s amazing music, style, and interesting story I keep hearing about… one of the best reviewed games on PS4 too…. YES PLEASE!

The other games are great too! Love greek mythology – can’t wait to try Apotheon.

And I might have to hook up that PS3 and play some Yakuza 4 sometime!

Finally, here’s hoping Driveclub will be ready for March… will be interesting to see it go up against Project Cars.. I’ve been DYING to try the game especially with the GORGEOUS new weather update + free cars!

  • Rogue Legacy, sweet. Played the crap out of it on pc, I’m down for some vita action

  • Oh man! January’s games + February ones just made it irresistible to renew my Plus subscription. So much value! And plus (see what I did there? :P ) all the PS3 free games that I purchased came back to my download list, not only those I have on the hard drive. I thought they were lost forever! Yay!
Now I just need money to buy a PS4… sucks to be poor!

  • Yakuza 4! Yes!

  • Awessome game for Vita, Rogue Legacy… Just bought it after 6 months with no discount… and then… free for subscribers!
Anyways… Bring more games like these to Vita!
People should take a look at Children of Morta on Kickstarter
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deadmage/children-of-morta

  • Pretty good month to be honest I have played Yakuza 4 to completion as a Gamefly Rental, but I will totally jump on that to complete all the sidequests I still had open. Also, Rogue Legacy is great and I have held off on purchasing it for this exact reason – I figured it would be a PSN Plus title at some point.

And to those looking for DriveClub PS+ Edition, you might not want to hold your breath as I think that is a promise that will slowly drift away.

  • Man, some of these kids in here and the Ign comment boards weren’t spanked and/or hugged enough. Maybe I’m just getting too old to read comment boards, but when I read this mindless drivel on all of my favorite sites I can’t help but feel a tad ashamed of my hobby. And that’s just wrong.

ALL OF YOU ARE MAKING GAMERS AS A WHOLE LOOK LIKE WHINY ENTITLED BRATS!
YOU ARE IN THE VOCAL MINORITY, AND NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.

no one believes you when you say you’re xbox.
no one believes you when you say “my plus is ends this month and I’m not extending”
no one cares that you don’t like indies

Just go away so we can all enjoy and talk about our hobbies. Or just start some other site where can complain about everything all the live long day. I’ll even give you a site name for free “The Changing Station”
