Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines Coming to PS Vita on March 3rd

It’s been a long time since we’ve brought you any news on Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, but I’m excited to announce that this unique JRPG will be available as a digital download on PS Vita via PlayStation Store for $19.99 starting on March 3rd!

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

So what does Oreshika bring to fans of the genre? Well, first of all there’s the striking graphic style. Set in ancient Japan, the game art delivers a rich world inspired by traditional brush paintings of the Heian era. You’ll be exploring a beautiful, watercolor world filled with weird and wonderful creatures based on Japanese mythology. Oh, and we’ve kept the fantastic Japanese voiceover which fits in with the atmosphere perfectly.

The gameplay is quite unique, too. In Oreshika, you’ll take control of a clan whose bloodlines have been struck with two terrible curses — a Curse of Ephemerality, and a Curse of Broken Lineage.

The Curse of Ephemerality means that your clan members age rapidly with a maximum lifespan of around 2 years. As you explore labyrinths, defeat demons, and find treasures, the clock of in-game time is always ticking so it’s important to plan your moves strategically. In Oreshika, no matter how skilled you are in battle or how strong your equipment is, your characters will face death and so it’s your job to make sure your clan’s family tree grows new members to step up to the ranks.

But therein lies the catch as the Curse of Broken Lineage means that your clan members can no longer procreate… Luckily you can turn to the gods for help. By performing the Rite of Divine Union with a god, a new clan member will be created. It’s important to choose carefully which gods you perform the Rite with as the genetic makeup will be a combination of the ‘parent’ clan member and the chosen god which affects stats as well as appearance. And with well over 100 gods to meet in game, there are a lot of deities to discover!

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

And while we’re on the topic of gods, I should mention that for a period of two weeks from launch, you’ll receive the gods Kiri no Mashū and Tonkararin as a special bonus when you purchase the game! So make sure you don’t miss out on this chance to bag these two rare gods that can’t otherwise be unlocked through gameplay.

  • Awesome! I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this game for a long time!

  • gripe less and be thankful that a niche game is coming to NA as it’s not always the case (Valkyria Chronicles 3, Suikoden 6….etc)

  • Same problem as Freedom Wars. Don’t give me nonsense that the Japanese language automatically sounds better than any other; if I wanted to play my games in a different language, I’d learn that language.

Soul Sacrifice had a fantastic dub, along with many other games. Please, at the very least admit that you’re just not willing to invest enough money to fully localize a game for fans, instead of claiming that you’re doing them a service by limiting choice.

  • LOL @ the user ranting about the lack of an English dub.
Because yes, it makes a lot of sense for the characters of a Japanese game that is inspired heavily by Japanese folklore to be speaking English. Don’t be so culturally ignorant. Learn to respect and embrace different cultures, customs and languages instead of having everything Westernized for you.

  • Man… no physical, makes me want to import the asia version. Gotta build that Vita collection on the shelf, dood!

  • @104
How does wanting the game in my language show less respect for jpn. I respect their artsyle, culture and games, but I’m sorry I don’t like jpnvoice overs. Also your logic makes no sense. How come in anime everyone in the world speaks fluent japanese.

  • @103
Please they won’t admit they are cheap and lazy. If it was a smaller company I would get it,but its not its sony.

  • $20 for A Decent Vita Title, and chances are I’m in.

Of course I am a big digital supporter, since I do not spam rent/trophy hunt.

Make more titles like this, for this price, and like Metal Gear HD and Persona 4 ,and I will literally be
    ONE HAPPY CAMPER.

Of course with no English Dub’s, and will be waiting for a sale of some kind

  • @104 Thank you! :)

  • For all of you that think No English is a good idea, please import, and let the rest of us actually enjoy some good voice acting.

Mimana Iyar for instance (which is currently on sale).

I can read sub’s as much as the next guy, but don’t think I like it better.

Well Said Souledge94… fight the good fight bro.

  • @102 How comes that NISA could bring a game like Criminal Girls as a physical release and sony can’t even do that with their own games???

  • I’ve been looking forward to this game since it was announced. Been wanting to preorder for so long… Too bad it’s digital only, it’ll suck when the day comes that the Vita is not supported anymore and there’s no way to access the game. Granted, that may be in about 3-5 years (I’m optimistic regarding the Vita’s lifespan), but the fact remains. Still gonna get this, but I may have to see about importing that Asia release with English subtitles at some point.

More physical releases please! It makes playing games easier when I don’t have delete any off my memory card to make room for new ones!

  • A digital only release for a game that’s just under 3gb is not a smart decision. Especially since this is probably one of few remaining first party games releasing on the vita this year. No buy, unless a physical release is considered.

  • Not happy about the amount of work, or lack of, you show putting this on Vita, but regardless I am happy it’s coming this way, even if digital. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if physical, but… I’ll wait for a sale I guess, even at that price. Same reason I still haven’t bought SSD.

  • @108
Pretty sad you agree with someone who calls another person ignorant just cause they dont like sub voices.

  • @113
Only sad person here is you. There is nothing wrong with having a preference or giving your opinion but come on. Give it a rest already. You’ve been whining for 3 pages already. You’re like a spoil brat throwing a tantrum just because you aren’t getting your way 100%.
You either buy the game or you don’t. They won’t hire a group of voice actors and provide an English dub when the game is releasing in 2 weeks anyways. Leave your feedback and get out.

  • @114
This is a free board so if I want to respond to something I can so just get over that. Its sad that someone needs to call someone an idiot to try to make their point more valid when all it does is diminish it. The most negative thing iv said is sony is cheap and lazy and with this practice they are doing with their jpn vita games it kinda proves it.

  • @115 You aren’t really doing yourself any favors to debunk that notion that you’re an idiot with your constant whining. Just sayin’. Lol

  • @116
So your saying responding to people makes me an idiot……ok if that makes you feel better. Also putting LOL doesint make your point somehow valid.

  • I will always like retail versions of games. I still have all my PS1,PS2,PS3,PSP,PS Vita, and now PS4 games. I save my money for retail games and let PS+ deliver the digital games. It seems to be what the igc has become so it’s all about being smart with your money. The only way I will buy a digital game is if it’s dirt cheap.

  • You guys are making it really hard to justify getting games I want to try. If there was a memory card price drop I would buy this and maybe 4 or 5 other games i’ve been meaning to get. But no, i’m capped out on my 16gb and I won’t settle for 32gb. The combination of digital only heavy filesize games and ripoff memory price are actively deterring me.

  • Poor little saps, can’t admit that digital is better (On PS Vita that is). You don’t even get a physical manual inside the case. So what’s the point? I’m not buying a game with just a cartridge inside it. No physical manual, no buy. It’s worthless and is a waste of shelf space without it.

@Souledge94 You’re the only person that’s not buying this game because of a different reason. I can see why you prefer dubs over subs, but I still don’t quite understand the logic of it. You’ll saying that Japanese people should speak English? That makes no sense at all. TheWintendoHii is right. And about the anime question, that’s easy. Because anime is made in Japan.

  • Yeah….this went from a day one purchase to a wait untill it goes on sale on PSN. I would buy the retaill version in a heartbeat for $30 or $40.

  • @117 No, you are definitely free to respond but the context of of those responses are idiotic. Which you once again have proven with your response to me. Lol

@120 Well you need to understand that just how you don’t want to waste shelf space, some people don’t want to waste memory card space.

  • Is this PSTV compatible?

Again, Sony, please start noting this in these blog posts when written.

  • Oh my god. This looks amazing. Day one buy for me, I don’t care if it’s only digital. JRPGs are the best :D

  • I’m with the others on this one. I would prefer a physical released b/c my memory card is packs already. We need for physical game especially when they go over 1gb. I’d buy way more games with if I had more hard drive space for cheaper. Looking forward to the game though.

  • @120
I brought up the point of why does everyone speak japanese in an anime because his point was “well its set in japan so why would they speak english”. If he has a such a stand on being authentic then he shouldint like the fact in anime everyone speaks fluent japanese in the world and sometimes the galaxy. Also again on the dub topic if smaller companis can provide one why cant sony? It shows they are being cheap and lazy with this translation. I would be more understanding if sony was a small company but its not its sony.

    @122
Again all your doing is calling me an idiot just cause you have a problem with my posting.

  • @126 lol you really are an idiot. Gamerzlimited already answered your question, its because anime is made in JAPAN. Just like this game is made in JAPAN. Its a JAPANESE game, why shouldn’t it retain its JAPANESE voice track? TheWintendoHii only pointed out that it makes more sense for this game, more so than others, to include a Japanese voice track since this game has a strong JAPANESE influence.

Have you seen videos of the game? The art style, music, heck even the name and logo of this game is very Japanese. This game’s intended audience isn’t for your general Western audience. So an English dub was never necessary in the first place.

Its like going to a high end steakhouse and ordering your steak well-done. Its ruins the steak and people would call you an idiot. Just how an English dub ruins the experience of this game which is also why people are calling you an idiot. Its the same basic concept.

  • @74: I’m confident that I’m doing far more than you are in keeping the Vita alive. I have 88 retail games for Vita. A lot of those retail bought day 1, many of which were Collector’s Editions. I also have an insane amount of indies and double dipped on really good sales digitally.

Also many that are by companies with far less money than Sony. If Aksys can release an otome games at retail, there is absolutely no excuse for a platform holder to not have retail releases.

Shoo with your nonsense. There is no justified defense. No one is asking Sony to produce 1 million retail copies. Just open them up to preorders only [ala; Class of Heroes 2G]. Do a Collector’s Edition only release [ala; Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus]. Limited retail release [ala; pretty much ever niche publisher’s lineup, NISA, Aksys, Xseed, Atlus]. Do a retailer exclusive [ala; One Piece: Unlimited World Red, Tales of Hearts R]

But no. The first party publisher would rather give us the finger than to provide ANY alternative for the insanely dedicated Vita owners. It’s insulting. We’ve kept this system alive. And Sony can’t be bothered to give us what we desire. What we ask isn’t unreasonable at all.

  • This game looks so cool. I can’t wait.

  • Although I’d certainly prefer physical, if this is the only way we can continue to get the big titles from Japan localized I don’t mind digital only, but you guys have got to slash those prices way way down on memory cards. And actually market a little. It did great for Freedom Wars, people knew about it.

  • @129
A english dub would no way ruin the experiance. Again the guy was all about it being athentic but I’m sure he’s perfectly fine when jpn anime when everyone speaks fluent japanese in the world/galaxy which conflicts with what he says about being athentic being important.if that case is fine then this should be no different. If you honestly believe they kept it this way to get it as athentic you sir a truly blind. Its them being to cheap to use a dub. Which again for a big company like sony to do is pathetic. Espcially when other companies off a dub or even dual audio.

  • Will this be Playstation TV compatible??

  • @Makino_Ren Memory card space is their problem, just like shelf space is a problem for me. I may have said that digital is better, but that’s for PS Vita only and doesn’t apply for other Sony platforms. In my opinion, physical is better for PS3 (Don’t know for PS4 as I don’t own one). As for PSP, I mix between the two. I rather have the shelf space on games that are actually worth owning such as ones that are out of print or never released on PSN. And they also have to have nice looking manuals as their value is higher. The only exception I’ll buy a physical PS Vita game if it’s a limited edition with an artbook or soundtrack, now that’s something worth owning.

@Souledge94 To be honest, I don’t think you’re an idiot nor a troll. It’s just that realistically, Japanese people can’t speak fluent English. It will sound like Engrish. That’s why I don’t understand the logic for your reason. It’s fine that you prefer dubs, I have no objections because it’s your opinion. For me, I’ll take whatever as long as it gets a physical release on PS3 (Digital if it’s a PS Vita title).

  • @133 There is no doubt that their decision to exclude an English dub is to save money. People are just questioning your obsession with an English dub for a completely Japanese game.

@135 Each person has their preference, yes. Which is why an option should’ve provided. Aince you prefer digital over physical, how would you feel if they only released a physical copy and not a digital one?

  • @135
The point I was trying to make is the guy said its to keep it a autentic and its stupid to think they would think speak english and to respect the culture. Yet japan themselves in anime makes everyone speak fluent japanese no matter the location. So if its ok for them to that why can’t we have a game with an english dub.espcially when its coming to english speaking teritories Its not a disrespect against the culture if it was and I don’t see how someone would come to that conclusion.

    @136
It being set in japan shoudlint make it lack a dub. Tons of anime and games have had english dubs and are set in japan culture and its not like it takes anything away. The only time it would take away if its a bad dub job.

  • LOL many people here are still surprise about releasing games only in digital. Did anybody here even ever notice the lack of supplies of vita console on most local stores? well if you do then don’t get surprise if games will be also only in digital distribution.

  • @137 Which unfortunately, a majority of them are bad. They try too hard to mimic Japanese character tropes in English and it just ends up sounding terrible.

  • @139
Yea can’t agree. Most dub jobs are very well done anime and games. Its more rare to find a truly bad one unless you travel back way in time.

  • @129:
Just curious, would the presence of subs in English also ruin the immersion, then?

While the topic can get a bit heated at times, I think that people should always get a choice. Having a mandatory English dub is just as bad as not having one at all, to me. If people want to get the original experience, then they should be able to, and the same should be true for the camp on the other side of the table.

  • @Makino_Ren Seeing physical only releases is pretty rare as they would be released in both formats anyway. It’s not like Kingdom Hearts where I have no choice on the matter. I have yet to see a physical only PS Vita only title. If that does happen, no biggie. I’ll just wait for a sale, it’s not like it’s going anywhere. If it’s a limited edition, I’ll probably buy it physical anyway since the limited goodies alone will be worth it. Options are always welcome, but for me I just prefer having blu-ray discs over cartridges for a gaming collection.

@Souledge94 I kinda see what you’re getting at now. For a few dubs, some of them don’t translate well in English. It pretty much depends on the series in general. That’s not disrespectful at all. There’s some I prefer dubs (Persona 4 Golden and Hyperdimension Neptunia) and the other I prefer subs (Corpse Party & Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate). Maybe this is not one of them, that’s why it doesn’t have a dub. I guess.

  • Why no physical release Sony ? That means no buy and no support from me, hope the game sales are low :-)

  • This game looks good. I won’t be purchasing it though. I am very unhappy with all these ‘digital only’ games. Physical copy or it didn’t happen.

  • The $20 price tag is an appreciated gesture, but still beyond what I care to pay for digital-only games, even more so with the horrible situation surrounding Vita memory cards. Sony would have had my money with a full-price (or premium) physical release. As it stands, if I do ever purchase Oreshika, it won’t be until the game is being offered at a significant discount.

  • I prefer physical release but I’m not going to whine and make threats that I won’t buy it as I will, and I’ll be thankful they didn’t scrap plans to release here altogether. As it is, ebgames has relegated Vita to the Other category due to lack of retail items.

  • I never understood why people say we should be thankful. Sony is a business company, and like all of them, they’re here to make money. I am unhappy with the digital-only option and so am voting with my wallet, simple as that. This is a customer-seller relationship. If they do any ‘favors’ it is for customer loyalty etc. All in the marketing.

What I find unfortunate is that, Vita already having low console sales, Sony is pushing for the digital option. I mean how will the Vita have store exposure if there are so few games visible on shelves? Even if it has a great digital catalog, it is not the first thing people think about when seeing a console in stores. They look around for games. I think PSP Go is a good example of why digital-only games is not the best approach (for now anyways).

  • @142
As I and even makino said they just didint do a dub because they didint want to pay for one. Which just bums me out.

  • Okay the game looks great, and I was all ready to put it on the buy list when I thought it was an indie or small dev making it…

The fact that it’s Sony and a freaking 3 GB game and they don’t have a physical release is just plain bull. Sony has all but dropped support, it’s so stupid, I literally could do a better job than Sony has with vita. Hell the trolls that bash the vita daily for the lols could do a better job than Sony has.

The dual audio doesn’t really bug me but seems ridiculously stupid for them not to have it especially if they want to expand their market. Bottom line they don’t care, the only reason vita hasn’t died it’s because it’s getting too much indie support and multiplat support to justify stopping production but they haven’t made a single decent move with vita since it’s release, and it’s just getting worse and worse.

Sony doesn’t need to cut costs to make profit off a vita game they need to do the opposite, support the freaking thing.

  • Sony I expect a detailed explanation from you why you refuse to give us a retail version, much smaller companys like Idea Factory or NIS America are able to bringt retail versions in the US and europe markets and what about you ? You have a awesome first party game like Oreshika and what you gonna do with this game you only give us a stupid download! Such games deserves a fine box edition and not a simply download. I hope Oreshika will be the last game that you are publishing, shame on you Sony.
