Free Online Multiplayer This Weekend for All PS4 Players

Clear your calendars this weekend, because free online multiplayer is back for all PS4 owners, courtesy of PlayStation Plus! Our last free online multiplayer weekend on PS4 was so popular that we’re doing it again.

PS Plus Free Multiplayer Weekend 3/20 - 3/22

Starting Friday, March 20, at 12:01am Pacific through Sunday, March 22, at 11:59pm Pacific, PlayStation Plus is offering free online multiplayer for all PS4 owners. Just log on to PlayStation Network during the free weekend period, launch your favorite multiplayer game, and you’ll be playing online with your friends, whether you are a PlayStation Plus member or not. Check out multiplayer modes for Battlefield Hardline (releasing March 17) such as Conquest and Hotwire, fight for Super Earth together with friends across the galaxy in HELLDIVERS, or join your friends on strike missions with Destiny.

Again, no membership commitment is required to try out online multiplayer during this period. If you’d like to learn more about what PlayStation Plus offers in addition to online multiplayer on PS4, including new games monthly, exclusive member discounts, online game saves and more, click here.

  • @100 It wouldn’t have been an issue if Sony didn’t sink to MS’s level with the premium subscription fee for online multiplayer fee scam. Ditching it for good wouldn’t be a bad idea.

  • go figure, sony does something nice and out comes the raging nerds. chances are you have or will download enough of the monthly titles to pay for the required online cost.

  • @102 If you already have the games that interest you before they become PS+ titles, there’s no value in them as you already have them. If you prefer physical discs for some reason like not having restrictions that digital games do, there’s not as much value in them either. Besides, if PS+ is as good as you and the others claim it is, requiring PS+ for online multiplayer seems like pointless overkill as people would want it for the other reasons. All it does is keep people who don’t approve of the scam MS pulled since the original Xbox away from the console, which reduces software sales.

  • @15 The argument is largely moot considering it’s up to a third party publisher to keep the servers for their games running, not Sony. Sony is not managing all of the servers. Unless it’s their own first party game.
And yeah, it costs money to run it, but it did as well last gen and on the Vita where it’s free, and on PC.

  • Still, while I don’t like it, at least PS+ is largely about the other perks anyway. Whereas Xbox literally just let you play online, nothing as generous as this service.

  • Thank you PLAYSTATION, so good to the supporters!

  • I can’t find any reason to not purchase psplus if you own vita, ps3 or ps4.. Com’on its 59 bucks a year and you get games that values more than hundreds. I got child of light, akibas trip 2, and infamous last light for free in just 3 months. That’s crazy.

  • @107 You make it sound like it is overkill to require it for online multiplayer, which would make it just something that keeps people away from the PS4.
    Here’s the issues with it:
1.) You don’t get the games for free, you just rent them. If your subscription expires, you’re access to those games does too.
2.) If you already have the games they’re offering (as in I already got this game before it became a PS+ title), you prefer discs over digital download (this is something that is an issue for my uncle), or you aren’t interested in the titles that are being offered that you don’t already have (if I didn’t want it before, it doesn’t give PS+ any extra value by adding it to the IGC from my perspective).

  • I am very upset and disappointed with Sony’s inability and/or willingness to help customers.

My account got hacked one way or another. I don’t know how, but it doesn’t matter at this point.

Whomever stole my account, also deactivated my PlayStations. When I got my account back, and went to use it — I was told my PS could not be activated because I already had 2 activated. When I went to try and deactivate it on the website I was told “You have deactivated your devices recently and cannot use this feature at this time.”

So I contacted support, who told me that I would have to wait six months to deactivate and reactivate the consoles.

    Six months.

They told me they could not help me.

So now I am stuck with a PlayStation Plus subscription that will expire before I can use it again. What do you think the odds are they I will buy another one next year??? I’ve had one for 4 years now — and guess what — if Sony can’t reactivate my console for me I’m done with Sony. I’ll give my PlayStations away before I’ll spend another dime on Sony products that can just be stolen away, and not be returned to me even though Sony has the ability to help — they just won’t.

    Thanks Sony

  • For real I think playstation plus should be free I already have to pay enough for the ps4 then I have to pay just to play online lets start a riot that we will no longer use playstation products only IF playstation plus is free

  • I don’t get it, what’s the big deal? Isn’t multiplayer for the Playstation free anyway? I know I’ve never had to pay for multiplayer before.

  • No surprise they keep hacking PSN. You really sucks!

  • I think multiplayer should always be free since lots of MMOs are costing 50$ but that’s only if you pay an extra bill each year to actually play it. Maybe some people just got enough money to get a console. Oh wait, I can only play half of what I payed for. I understand this is just temporary though. I still support Sony as much as I used to.
