Spotify Launches on PlayStation Music Today

PlayStation Music + Spotify

Hi everyone! In January, we announced PlayStation Music, a new music destination that brings Spotify to PS4, PS3, and Xperia mobile devices in 41 markets around the world. This exclusive partnership brings the best in music and the best in gaming together on PlayStation Network, and I am thrilled to announce that Spotify on PlayStation Music is coming to PS4 and PS3 today!

Spotify is the exclusive partner of PlayStation Music, and with more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, PS4 users can soundtrack their gaming sessions with their favorite songs. To make controlling your music even easier PS4 and PS3 users will be able to take advantage of the Spotify Connect feature on the official Spotify app for Android/iOS. You can select a playlist, skip songs, adjust the volume, and more.

  • Also, having the radio option like we have on computer/iphone/ipad/android/smart tv would make sense… It’s on everything else, why wouldn’t Playstation get it?

  • I can’t figure out how to log out with one user profile and login with another Spotify user account. I clicked on top right hand corner where the profile pic is displayed and can’t find a logout option

  • This paired with the app is incredible! Next stop visualizer?? You know how much we like to stare at our tvs?

  • @202 tabegoldar.

Are you using the Spotify Connect app on your pc/ipad or pc ?

It should be there in the top right as you mention (beside you profile pic is a drop down arrow and you click that).

I’m not sure if you can login to the PS4 with 2 different profiles as the first thing you did was to link you Spofity profile with the PS4…(I’ll keep checking the Spotify site and answer back if I find something).

If you go to Spotify, click on the Help button, there is a section ‘Spotify available on Playstation Music’. that has several tips on using PS4 and Spotify.

One thing I didn’t realize until today, see below…looks like a nice feature:

‘Can I log into Spotify on someone else’s PS4™ or PS3™ console?
You can do this in a few ways:
Log into your own account on PlayStation™Network on their PS4™ or PS3™ console. If you’ve already linked that account to your Spotify profile, you’ll have instant access on any other PS4™ or PS3™ console you sign into.
They can stay signed into their account on PlayStation™Network and you can access Spotify on PlayStation™Music by using Spotify Connect.’

Agree the visualizer would be great.

I have a PS4 Dynamic theme of asteroids in space.

I start Spotify Connect without starting the PS4 Spotify app and connect to the PS4 with either cell/ipad/pc.

Select my music on Spotify by right clicking on the Connect device and different songs and hit ‘Queue’ so it queues up a bunch of songs to play on the PS4.

Then with that Dynamic PS4 theme, kind of have a visualizer, and don’t bring up the Spotify app on the PS4 at all.

It’s playing in the background with the PS4 theme running as my visualizer for now.

I loved the Earth one we have on the PS3 and sure would love something like that on the PS4 as well.

  • I’m happy again, figured out a work around that makes this amazing for me thanks to a post from GGCAN. They suggested syncing it with computer and streaming it from there on a previous post. Instead of that I’m just syncing from my phone (phone on wifi so data usage not affected). Being able to just sync my phone to the PS4 and play my playlist or radio from there fixes everything and basically created a separate “remote control” type of functionality just for the music using my phone. It’s stupid that it’s the way to fix the problem, but it works great this way and I’m very happy. Honestly since my phone gets to act as a sort of remote control, even if all the other complaints get resolved, I’ll probably still stick with this method.

  • @206 MeltedFrederick:

Yep, think it works best that way too.

My Onkyo Stereo also has Spotify on it, but they modified it this past January to be only controllable with the cell phone/pc app.

The stereo can only use Spotify Connect and I’ve gotten used to controlling it that way.

PS4 at least has some ability to control on itself, but the best is via remote control.

I still think Spotify and Sony should be setting up a Spotify Connect feature on the Vita, so that we can use that for a remote control tool as well (maybe it’s happening…sure would love it).
