Mad Max: A Trip Down Savage Road

John Fuller's Avatar Posted by Senior Producer, Avalanche Studios

It was great to see that our recent gameplay overview trailer was greeted with such a positive response. Now, we are ready to release a new video, the Savage Road trailer. We know that everyone was crying out for gameplay and we were happy to oblige. With your appetites now sated, it’s time to take a deeper look at the story and some of the characters.

As you know, Mad Max is an open-world action adventure game set in the post-apocalyptic universe made famous by the films. However, while you may recognize certain elements, it is truly a standalone game with original characters, storyline and setting crafted from the ground up to rival the best games out there. So, what’s the story all about?

Well, at the start of the game, as is so often the case for Max, he is simply trying to avoid contact with what passes for humanity in the Wasteland. He is searching for some sort of respite, whether it is in a real world place or somewhere in his head.

We start our story as he gets tangled up in a fight with a group of warboys. These are the zealous foot soldiers of the Wasteland Warlord and ruler of Gastown, Scabrous Scrotus. Stripped of his prized Interceptor, he is left for the Wasteland to chew up. However, he receives help from an unlikely companion, a Wasteland Blackfinger named Chumbucket, who realises that Max has ‘otherworldly skills’ as a driver and survivor. Chum’ convinces Max that together they can craft a mighty machine, which he calls Max’s Magnum Opus (meaning ‘Great Masterpiece’).

In the game, you will have much use of Chumbucket’s insider knowledge of the Wasteland and its inhabitants. As long as your paths are aligned, he will also be of great value in improving and weaponizing your Magnum Opus. He will even man the harpoon and repair your vehicle in battle when you need it.

Both Max and Chum are acutely aware that the car will require a powerful V8 engine if it is to survive in battle. In the video you will see that Max ventures into the heart of Gastown in order to compete in a race to the death. The prize — the V8 he so desperately needs. First he will have to face his enmity with Scrotus’ most feared henchman, Stank Gum, a despicable character who revels in spreading Scrotus’ terror in the most grotesque ways possible. The closer Max is driven to breaking point, the more he struggles with his sanity. (There’s a hint of that in the video, too!)

Enjoy Savage Road and we’ll be back soon with more content!

Looks good! Too bad Tom Hardy couldn’t reprise his role as Mad Max in this game, but you at least got the Aussie accent bit down.

I’m curious to see just how good this might be.

This is going to be 2015’s shadow of mordor. What I mean by that is that this game is going to be a sleeper hit that seemed to come out of nowhere. I can’t wait for this title.

Do you guys think it’s a good idea to release your game the same day as metal gear solid 5? Seems like a bad decision that will bury your game at the start.

Any plans to have Furiosa in this as a guest character or skin? Cuz she’s awesome.

WOOT!! Looking forward to this big time! Hoping he driving can be fun/compelling/arcade/challenge driving and not too twitchy/simulator to be a frustration. For me personally, something about continually failing a time drive challenge wears me down faster than say a tough boss battle.

Well I WAS trying to limit my preorder purchases this generation. This is making that look less likely than ever. My wallet is displeased! …Worth it

This game is looking better and better, its showing a lot of potential to be one of the best games of the year, maybe even compete with those that are already marked as the best ones.I hope you guys do everything right with this game cuz boy its looking good.
I hope for a lot of side-content and stuff to discover…you know a reason to explore cuz the world of the game is a wasteland…wanna see how you guys will work that out.

Wish you guy good luck cuz I really want this game to succeed.

I had already made up my mind but now I´m even more certain I´m getting both this and MGS TPP. Mad Max is just looking more and more amazing. Racing through the Australian outback with crazy a$$ vehicles chasing you, killer combat and more madness that any normal person could handle, yeah!

I know that the movie has no connection with this game, but it’s an amazing movie and I expect this game is going to be as good as it is. I believe it will be a great game !

Every posts, most 90% positive comments yet low star rating posts. Disable the rating system as it appears rival fanboys just hate on purpose.
