PS Plus: Free Games for July 2015

Prepare yourselves for a free games lineup the likes of which you’ve (probably) never seen! We’ve got rocket-powered cars, stealthy goblins, science cats,and even a little dab of arthouse wonder for good measure. All free starting next week for PS Plus members.

This month’s lineup includes four games playable on PS4, starting with the multiplayer mayhem of Rocket League. Use insane stunts and teamwork to score points in this fast-paced arcade game that even features a wholesome little cameo from Sweet Tooth, our favorite demonic ice cream truck.

Also included is the fantasy stealth game Styx: Master of Shadows, and the head-scratching puzzles of Mousecraft. And if you’re still not satisfied, why not embark upon an adventure that spans nine lifetimes in the surreal story of Entwined?

Rounding out the lineup is Rain on PS3 and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved on PS Vita. All these games will be free for PS Plus members starting on July 7th. If you want to see these games in motion, hit that play button below.

Nice variety. Still would be nice to get some AAA stuff but Rain was great, albeit short. Was hoping Mousecraft would come up in here and can’t complain at Geometry Wars either so thumbs up for the month but still room for improvement.

Sony dont care anymore. I am glad i canceled my subscription, i come back when they are REAL GAMES, but they wont never come.

  I agree with you a 100 percent. Ps plus used to be optional. Now it’s required to play online and we get indie games no one has heard of. Sony has disappointed me. I really want to return my ps4 for an Xbox one. They have better free games and guess what backwards compatibility.

What they should be working on is getting more ps1 and psp titles playable on the vita! No crash, no spyro, no blood omen. I can’t imagine it’s anything more difficult than flipping a switch. they did it with all of those Star Wars titles when they put that package deal in the vita store in may. People bought it and couldn’t download the games, and the next day they’re all downloadable.

I’ve been looking forward to rocket league and now I don’t even have to spend any extra money for it?!!!! I’m super excited and as for the indie developer hate triple A games don’t mean the same as it used to its become repetitive and often times the best games from big companies are actually the smaller games like valiant hearts and such I have probably played more of a single indie game on my ps4 because they are more fun or have better storytelling keep up the fun games Sony I am surprised almost every month with how much fun I have with games I may never have hear of and thank you for getting rocket league

I’m not usually one to complain about the PS+ titles, but this was a make or break month for me on whether I continued my subscription. And it’s definitely break. Even with having a PS4, PS3 and a Vita, there’s been nothing to keep my subscription active. I don’t play online (I played GTA Online once or twice and the people playing all have such piss-poor attitudes that it turned me right off) and I purchased MAYBE 2 games on PS+ discount. the monthly games lineup was what brought me into PS+ last summer when my wife bought me a sub for my birthday.

but this year? it’s just been a backslide into indie obscure arthouse garbage. and if it’s not that it’s going to be obscure indie “charming 2d platformer” or “charming indie with retro 8-bit inspired graphics”.

I don’t expect all games to be some big AAA release, but let’s put it this way – I only added ONE game to my cart last month. Call of Juarez.

And one game isn’t worth keeping my subscription active.

Everyone seems so excited for Rocket League. But, have they played it yet? It comes out next week, right?

Very happy with the July options. Was going to buy Rocket League, and have always been interested in Styx, and even the Vita / PS3 games are good. For once the only game I already have is Entwined (got it recently in one of the Flash sales I think).

I like the variety but it would have been nice to create some theme around the excitement of E3 and possibly provided an older AAA game like remastered uncharted 1.

You know why ps3 is getting AAA titles? Because ps+ on ps3 is optional so they need to give good games to make people buying it. Most of gamers plays online, and to play online you need ps+ so they dont need good games to make people buying it. Its like begging of Xbox live on Xbox 360. They didnt gave any games because people buys it to play online. As a fan on playstation (i had all consoles from 1 to 4) im very dissapoonted, and thinking about switching from ps4 to Xbox one. Xbox announced compatibilty with over 100 Xbox 360 games for beggining. And what we got from Sony? Ps now that allows us to play some selected titles under monthly subscribtion, or rent some games but that renting is overpriced. That selected ps3 titles should be free to play for all ps+ sibscribers on ps4

I have never played Rain so this is awesome and after seeing some game plays of Rocket League it’s piqued my interest.

I’ve enjoyed most of the indie titles I’ve gotten through plus and still don’t regret renewing my membership. I actually lean more towards indies than AAA nowadays due to on disc/day 1 DLC. I play most of those AAA on pc anyways if it’s available for cheaper and with all the dlcs included.

And to all the entitled commenters complaining about the “bad” lineup go play xbox or pc if you’re not satisfied with what plus is offering. Hell, how about going out and BUYING a game you want to play for whatever platforms you own.

I’ll be honest, I’d rather have indie games in the plus lineup. They’re easier to miss and I don’t always know if I want to take a chance on it. AAA stuff has millions of dollars behind marketing it, the little guys don’t.

Few things everyone seems to forget:

1. PS+ don’t exist to appeal specifically to YOUR tastes. It appeals to the majority. It may look like a lot of people complain but they are a vocal minority. The amount of people commenting here doesn’t even make up a quarter or people subbed to PS+. Most people are too happy playing their PS+ games to take the time to comment.

2. Taste is subjective. Just because YOU don’t like something doesn’t make it bad. “Good” and “bad” are personal terms. From an industry standpoint, however, majority rules. Most of these games have good reviews.

3. Indie games are essential to the industry. Most of your favorite AAA developers started out with indies. Be open-minded and TRY things before you judge them, likes mature adults, instead of crying and pre-judging something you’ve never played, like a child. If you don’t give the underdogs a chance, they can never grow into something bigger. PlayStation is doing the right thing by promoting these up-and-comers. Helping the little guys get on their feet.

  I think one of the issues is that there is a certain saturation of the genre(2D platformers, puzzles, retro pixelated etc.).
  I believe PS+ is a good exposure for indie devs, but some people who bought new-gen consoles with high specs can request to play games that aren’t like those on older consoles. And the lack of regular mix between AAA games and indies in the PS+ IGC just amplifies that indie saturation feeling.
  Also, if you look closely at previous years of the PS+ lineup, there were practically no indies, so it set the bar for PS+ content to be AAA games.

PS Plus has virtually lost all it’s value for me.
I can’t really see the point in paying you (Sony) for another year.
Hell, even the PS3 is only getting cheap indie games these days.

Yes I’ve played it before, yes you can buy it used for cheap. However, it’s still a huge game with substantial production value.
Xbox wins this month.
I would actually love for an admin to explain to me why I’m not getting Guilty Gear.
Better yet, I’d like them to explain why I keep getting these lame titles every month.

Styx and Entwined?…what a great month.Man am I glad I didn’t buy Entwined when it was in a sale recently,and I’ve been wanting to try out Styx.Also looking forward to Mousecraft,Geometry Wars and possibly Rocket League.
Out of all these games I only have Rain so great month.

Just some suggestions for future PS+ updates that I think are reasonable and hope will be considered.

– It was great when you gave away PS1 games for PS+ commonly. A lot of new PSOne classics have been added over the years so there’s more candidates for future PS+ games.

– It’s no secret that PS+’s adoption rate like most services didn’t have as many subscribers earlier in its life so reissuing games from maybe the first 2 years would be a great idea since most subscribers that exist now never got them.

– There’s now a lot of years old PS3 games that have had their sales maxed out and are popular so adding them to PS+ wouldn’t hurt sales and can very easily grow new interest in them like as shown with the effects previous PS+ deals have had on other games. Seeing as there are also many AAA PS3 games that fit that mold, it can fill the void many subscribers have due to the limited amount available for the PS4 since it is still at the early stages of the console cycle.

I don’t think some people are able to comprehend what goes on behind the scenes that enables Sony to make these games “free”. They’re not going to be able to please you EVERY single month due to many complications, so just give the games a try and give some thanks to Sony rather then being ungrateful.

  I’ll have to disagree on your last point. Sony is a business company. As a customer, one can show his/her satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the products offered, it has nothing to do with being thankful or ungrateful. There are no favors here, everything done has some financial interest, like customer loyalty, listening to the “fans” etc. Obviously there is nothing wrong with showing support, but customers can also be disappointed with a company’s products.

I for one welcome Rocket League for PS4 and geometry wars for my vita. I already played Entwined, though it was interesting but a but nothing extraordinary. Styx Master of Shadows is the only game I´ve regretted buying this gen. Didn´t really cared for it, at all.

These are supposed to be 2 PS3 games, 2 PS4 games and 2 PS Vita games and the wording makes it sound like we are basically getting 4 PS4 games, while leaving the PS3 and PS Vita as after thoughts that get 1 game each and benefit from PS4 cross-buy games.

  Doesnt it make sense for sony to slowly switch focus on PS4? I’d rather have them spending the money/resources to get more games to PS4 than split it among ps3 and ps4 meaning we get sub par for both. You can say these are sub par games already, but that is subjective. I still have about 8-9 games on my PS4 from plus that i play periodically. To me this service is a filler between AAA game releases and i dont expect to never have to buy games because im constantly getting ps+. Anyway im still content with games like Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Destiny, NBA2k15. I dont need another triple AAA game to spend hours on. Actually these smaller games are nice to fill the gaps when i just want a quick game with limited time.

Glad i just got a xbox one been hoping black flag would be on ps plus. I like my ps4 but the there are very few plus games i have enjoyed most indy games bore me oh well cant complain to much there free was alot better on ps3 when i first subscribed.

Well, I’ll try Rain since that one interested me awhile back… I prefer Geo Wars on my PS4 with a big screen. That’s all I plan on touching though – the rest don’t look like anything I’d enjoy.

I’ve been very critical of the PS+ offerings in the last few months, but this one is actually semi-decent. Looking forward to Mousecraft, which by all accounts is a challenging puzzle platformer. Styx also scored high on reviews and looks cool.

Maybe not the AAA titles we all want but not half bad, for me anyway.

Anyone who thinks this month’s lineup is lackluster must not have played Rocket League in beta, or Geometry Wars in any of its previous iterations. Super pumped for those two titles, and Entwined and Rain are also games I’ve had my eye on for a while but never got around to. Fantastic month, I can’t wait!

It just baffles me that we dont get some meatier titles……

Why not add Final Fantasy 13 to PS+? It’s dirt cheap at this point and being free might hook in more people to play its sequels & buy DLC.

Why not add an older Atelier title? Anyone buying one would likely do well to buy it second-hand anyways, so why not hook some new people and get them wanting some of the newer games?

Why not add a couple episodes of Resident Evil Revelations 2? It could boost that game’s online community & push new players to buy the rest of the EPs and DLC.

Why not add something like Guilty Gear AC+R? Again, it could boost that game’s community and push people towards wanting to buy the new Xrd stuff.

At this point, I’m pretty much making peace with the fact that we’re basically getting a ton of indie titles tossed at us like both the games and our money are worthless. An (artsy) indie title is fine now & then, but we need some meat & potatoes to go with the whip cream & cherries Sony!
