Skullgirls 2nd Encore Launches July 7th

Nearly a month after pre-orders launched, Skullgirls 2nd Encore is almost here! The game will officially be released tomorrow, July 7th, and unlock for pre-orderers tonight!

For those who haven’t been keeping up, 2nd Encore is the ultimate edition of Skullgirls, containing:

  • All DLC characters included
  • Fully voiced story modes
  • New Challenges
  • New Trials
  • New Survival Mode
  • Cross-play with the PS3 and PS Vita versions
  • Full Platinum Trophy set

On top of that, if you needed another incentive, Skullgirls 2nd Encore is cross buy — purchasing the PS4 version will get you the PS Vita release, and vice versa. The PS Vita version will be out a little later this summer.

All of that for $24.99.

If you haven’t preordered yet, it’s not too late!

PlayStation Plus members will get a 20% discount on their pre-order, as well as a swanky PS4 theme!

The theme features a beautiful new piece of art, icons featuring Skullgirls characters, and a soothing instrumental arrangement of Michiru Yamane’s In a Moment’s Time. We think it’s one of the best PS4 themes out there, and we’re confident you’ll agree.

You can check out the theme here.

While we won’t be able to bring 2nd Encore’s new features to the PS3 version, we haven’t forgotten our PS3 fans.

Robo-Fortune and New Features On PS3

The final DLC character funded by our Indiegogo campaign, Robo-Fortune, will be released on PS3 alongside Skullgirls 2nd Encore.

Robo-Fortune was originally going to be a remix character based on Ms. Fortune, but we were able to upgrade her into something much more: a complete draw-over with a new design, and all new normal, special and super attacks.

As with previous DLC characters, Robo-Fortune will be free to download for the first three months of release, and “her” price will increase to $4.99 after that.

The patch that enables Robo-Fortune will go live tonight, and will also add the following new features:

  • Art Gallery: A massive gallery featuring concept, production and guest art!
  • CPU Quickmatch: Pick your AI opponents and fight them for a quick Skullgirls fix!
  • New Alternate Voice Packs: For Peacock, Parasoul, Painwheel, Big Band, and Double!
  • New Alternate Announcer Voice Packs: Female Announcer and “Dazed” Announcer!
  • New Taunts: Every character old and new has taunts now!
  • New Tutorials: Covering gameplay systems that have been updated since the original release!

Naturally, all of these will be included in Skullgirls 2nd Encore for PS4 and PS Vita, as well!

  • My first experience playing Skullgirls was actually through PlayStation Now, of all things (it played kinda well considering it was streaming). It makes me consider picking this up, especially given it’s cross-buy with Vita :-)

  • I’m really looking forward to playing this again, with all the new features!

I love the art and characters so much. Some of my favorite anywhere, not just in games.

    DLC Colors Included?

The EU blog says the Vita version is out on the 22nd. Is that true? If so, why didn’t you guys include it on here? : /

Misinformation. The Vita version is coming roughly 6 weeks after the PS4 version.

  • I’ll wait for the PS Vita version.

  • madmanwithabox12

Why does the trailer only say PS4 when it’s on Vita as well. This is happening far too often Sony.

    • If they said it was on Vita, everyone would be asking why it’s not on Vita, because it’s not on Vita yet. If people want to know about it being on the Vita, they can read the words at the top of the page that say it is coming out on Vita later.

Will the 20% PS+ discount still apply if we wait to buy the Vita version when it releases? I don’t really want to buy it right now.

  • i loved the PS3 version, now all I need is that Vita version as well. This game looks amazing. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. Having triple crossplay support is something unique and that I have never seen before. This is the labor of either some amazing work from the team, some kind of dark magic or both. Can’t wait to play it!

  • Interesting. Another cross-play game. Is it also cross-buy?

    • “Skullgirls 2nd Encore is cross buy — purchasing the PS4 version will get you the PS Vita release, and vice versa.”

  • The recycled version for the PS4 is a shame but at least its being released for Vita as well.
I came here to know about Robo-Fortune and I’m glad I got what I wanted plus Art Gallery and Taunts?…that is awesome!!! good job guys.Thats how you support your game.

  • Doctor_Hank_Pym

preordered!! I loved this game on PS3 and can’t wait to try this update using the much better PS4 controllers.

Awesome job on the dynamic theme, as well — I wish more developers would put this much effort into their games’ custom themes!

  • this better have lobbies or no buy for me i’ll stick to my PC skullgirls.

  • BlueBl1zzard

Hmmmm…was hoping the vita version would release alongside the PS4 version. However, considering it’s cross-buy I’ll just pick up the PS4 version now to tide me over until the vita version releases.

Regardless, thank you very much guys and gals of Lab Zero for the continued support of the game AND deciding to support the vita. I know it’ll be well worth the wait!!

  • So looking forward to this game. I already got my hands on the original then Encore and now 2nd Encore. I need to make sure to get the PC version too.

  • AceandLeonitix

So hyped for this game. :D

  • Backed on Indiegogo, nabbed every DLC character (sans Eliza on Erksberks…), and don’t even have a PS4.

But knew I had to nab this pre-order (and that sah-wanky theme!). Love your work with all this, and that post would’ve spurred me were it not for checking your Twitter (or was it /r/vita?). My Vita is waiting, Lab Zero. Don’t be so cruel~

…And, if you’re inclined, totally make a Skullgirls theme for the Vita/PSTV. Given the game’s style, even the generic transitional backgrounds would be nice & dark on my eyes, perfect to keep them in shape before long sessions cutting into sleep.

  • Can’t wait to play this on PS Vita.

Come on Lab Zer0, hook another Zer0 up and get this game out to us VIta handheld and Vita TV gamers.

  • Pre-ordered & can’t wait to try this on Ps4 today. :)

  • Purchased.

  • Shout out to Tiny Cartridge guy that wrote instrument guy’s scenario

  • sorry I cant spend that amount of money when I got it on steam for a fraction of the price and all the dlc for free.
