Grand Ages: Medieval Coming to PS4 on September 29th

Hello, PlayStation fans! The team and I at Gaming Minds Studios have been looking forward to sharing this news with you for some time — Grand Ages: Medieval will be launching on PS4 September 29th. We’ve been working diligently on the PS4 version for some time, so it’s a big deal for us that I can finally introduce the game to the PlayStation community today.

Grand Ages: Medieval

To give you a quick introduction, Grand Ages: Medieval is the second entry in the Grand Ages series and the first to appear on console. While this is our first title for PS4, the development team at Gaming Minds is comprised of strategy veterans with experience going back 19 years, and we’ve been releasing strategy titles on PlayStation platforms as far back as the PS2 era. Along with our publishers Kalypso Media, we’re really happy to be back on PlayStation and continuing the Sony tradition by releasing Grand Ages: Medieval on PS4.

For those new to the genre, Grand Ages: Medieval is a real-time, grand scale strategy game that takes place in the High Middle Ages. The game begins in the year 1050 A.D. as you assume the role of a mayor governing a small European settlement. Your goal is to lead your people through the decades by expanding your trade routes and nation’s influence; and eventually, begin conquering all of Europe. Aspiring empire builders will have to utilize politics, trade, warfare, and research advancing technologies to assert their empiric control over the 20 million km playing area. With that kind of scale we hope you’ll begin to see just how “grand scale” Grand Ages: Medieval’s campaign will be.

In addition, we’ll have an exciting, eight-player multiplayer mode available for when you want to take a breather from the main campaign. A cool and unique feature of our multiplayer is that you’ll be able to set commands and protocols that let you take breaks from multiplayer without ever having to leave the game. This feature is great for playing with and against friends in other territories when timezones interrupt your schedule, but should only be used sparingly as you may come back and find you’ve slept through your own defeat. And PS4 players can expect full 1080p in all modes.

So, on behalf of the entire team at Gaming Minds Studios I really hope you’ll be looking forward to the release of Grand Ages: Medieval on PS4 this September, and we look forward to sharing more with you before launch.

Thanks!

Nice, this looks like an interesting take on an RTS game. How many factions will be in the game and how do they differ? Will here be historical hero units?

    • Resurrected1985

Hi, there are no factions, everybody just starts with a single city and tries to expand his empire by founding new cities and conquering other cities. No, there won’t be any historical hero units, but there is a complete SP campaign including cut scenes. Hope this helps you! :)

  • This game looks pretty interesting, and it’s a genre that is sorely lacking on consoles, especially PS4. I imagine it can be kinda challenging mapping the keyboard controls down to the DualShock 4 buttons, but apparently you’ve managed! Any tricks you used, or special features of the controller? (ex: the touchpad)

    • Resurrected1985

Hi, thanks for your nice feedback! We don’t use any special tricks, no, but we think we made the game work pretty good on the PS4 controller. And yes, the touchpad can be used for some things, too :)

  • I love a good RTS. Has the control scheme been modified to make use of the track pad on the PS4 controller? Just seems like it would totally work.

more rts games should come to ps4, any info on price? also please release gameplay video soon, i want to see more

  • FrankDaPronStar

YES! I love RTS games…it’s one of the few reasons I also game on PC. It will be nice to have something to enjoy on my PS4. I am very interested to see how it works with the DS4. Gameplay would be nice to see as would a price. Good luck on your launch!

    • Resurrected1985

Hi, the price for PS4 will be 59,99$, for PC 39,99$. We do have a brand new video which explains the game but it’s recorded on PC – but the graphics on PS4 will nearly be the same and the game will run on PS4 in 1080p :)

  • The lack of interest from the community is shameful. A game is only as strong as the community.

Looking forward to this, looks like a nice mixture of Civ and total war games…which is something I very much want.

  • Very interesting, Going to keep an eye out on this closer to release date.

  • This looks great. Like others have said, RTS’ don’t appear much on console for reasons, and I’m sure this will be a game to help change that stigma. Looking forward to it.

    Hi Daniel,

I’m now putting this as my top game to get for the rest of the year. Awesome news!!!

I wanted to ask if you guys would consider a 10% discount for those of us who pre order the digital version?

Also I wanted to ask if you guys would consider on making a Dynamic Theme for the PS4 and offering it free to those of us who pre order. Just about every game studio is doing this now as a pre order bonus.

    Cheers!!!

Nice, i love strategy games and ps4 is lacking them for sure, im excited for this one

  • Hi!

Is this game anything like Rise of Nations?

  • “the price for PS4 will be 59,99$, for PC 39,99$”

    that’s really unfortunate.

  • sgthelord876

Why have I not heard about this sooner, looks awesome, like Civilization only with a closer point of view

  • magicfan345

This game looks cool, and I like strategy games. Too bad its not on PS3. I’ll definitely look into it once I get a PS4 though.

  • ShadowStar83x

Looks cool. Keeping my eye on this.

  • It definitely looks very involved but not overly complicated, but as a general gauge as to re-playability: how long would a normal single player play through take in hours? Regardless it scratches a definite itch and I’ll be picking it up.

    • Resurrected1985

Hi, the single player campaign alone will take about 10-20 hours in average I guess, it’s strongly depending on your gamestyle, you can do it faster and it can also take you longer. In the campaign you learn to play the game in all its aspects while experiencing a thrilling story including cutscenes – after you’ve completed the campaign you can keep on playing to expand your empire and maybe even gain power over complete Europe or you can start a free game and choose from a variety of different settings which let you customize the game in many ways. And if you love multiplayer, you can compete with friends and strangers in games for up to 8 players :)

  • Looks interesting, consoles really need more strategies games.

  • Ooooh! Finally a RTS game on PS! I am still on PS3, so I would’ve to wait a bit for it though.

Is there going to be any replayability for single player once they have finished the main campaign? I have played few RTS where once you finish a campaign there is nothing else to do, but there are some other games (like Age of Empires series) that gives “Random Maps” (like multiplayer matches, but singleplayer, with AI). Where does Grand Ages lie?

Super excited to see a REAL strategy game coming to PS4. None of the battle islands crap.

  • KidGreengene

Never heard of the game… and now it is absolutely on my radar. But I will wait on reviews for this game (note: not review score… but a real review with words and everything)

  • So great to hear a new RTS is coming to PS4, it is also the only reason I still game on PC. Maybe a future Playstation Underground video would be nice (hint: Ryan Clemence). ;)

  • I want card PS3

  • quick question, is there more added to the PC version than the PS4 version or will they be identical?

  • WIll be copping this sure enough.. o yes!

  • Looks promising. I want to see a new C&C for ps4.

  • demonraver1

just watched the video you posted in the comments. the game looks great thank you for bringing it to ps4

  • Looking great ! Cant wait to play it.
